"Best house?" I asked. It was a pretty simple question that I already knew the answer to. I had asked it several times before, but I wanted to make sure that nothing had changed since the last time.
"Ravenclaw." Upton responded. Yeah, it was a bit of a weird name but he was my friend.
"You only say that because you like to wear blue." I pointed out.
"No, I say it because it is the best house." She argued. "You know it's your favorite house too, Adam."
My name was Adam, and I was not a wizard. My best friend Upton and I were big fans of Harry Potter. Of course, neither of us thought that was the best name for the fandom. We both thought that something more neutral like Hogwarts was better, especially for people that didn't consider themselves to part of Gryffindor. Some people thought it was a pretty nerdy thing to do, but I didn't care because I liked being part of the fandom…even though there were several things about it that were problematic, most importantly the creator. I generally tried to separate art from the artist, because a lot of writers were really horrible people.
"I wish that there were more important characters out of Ravenclaw." He remarked. Yeah, Ravenclaw was a pretty underdeveloped house. I would say that it was still treated better than Hufflepuff, who only had one important character throughout the whole series. Even Slytherin didn't get much development beyond Malfoy and the brief moment where Crabbe turned on him, which wasn't even in the movies because the actor got arrested. "I mean the only really important character that we got was Luna and she wasn't until the last three books. The only other Ravenclaws were just people that the main characters dated briefly. Why didn't we ever get to see the characters being smart like they're supposed to be?"
"I guess because there was only so much that she could write about." I replied. "I wish that she wrote some companion books to give more information about the other houses, even Slytherin to prove that they're not all evil."
That seemed like it could be a great idea, but it obviously wouldn't work now since pretty much everyone hated her and no one else could really make official material while she still held the trademark. Even her recent attempts before everything went down really weren't that good either.
"And maybe she could give some sort of personality trait to Hufflepuff." He joked. "You know it's too bad that we're too old to go to Hogwarts."
"We also don't have any magic." I pointed out. There was a simple explanation for that. Magic didn't exist. We could pretend that it did all that we wanted to, but that wouldn't make it true. I wished it was true sometimes because sometimes I wanted to have to not spend extra time getting ready in the morning or getting dressed. Though, I wasn't sure if there was a spell for that. "Magic isn't real. Also neither is Hogwarts."
"If you say that again, I'm not going to let you use the new floo powder that I ordered." Upton declared. I was pretty sure that it was just literal dust. It was amazing that you could convince people to be literally buy dust and brand it as merchandise.
"You know that stuff isn't going to work and we'll just be covered in dust." I pointed out. People probably thought that I was weird, but I thought it was okay to be with people who liked the same things as you as long as you didn't lose perception of reality.
"Suit yourself." Upton declared as he went and got the package. I couldn't help it. I loved to roleplay this kind of stuff.
"Okay, I'll do it." I replied.
"You know the rules." She told me. "If you're going to use the floo powder, you have to put on your robe first."
I went into her closet and grabbed my robe. I kept it there because my mom wasn't as supportive of my love for the fandom as them and they also wouldn't know that I spent $120 on a robe. I wasn't sure why it would be a big deal that a lot of people my age were spending more on things like televisions or video game systems. That was a suitable amount of money for something that I was going to use multiple times.
"So, where are we going to go today?" He asked. We liked to think of different places that we could go to.
"It can't be somewhere that we've been before." I stated. "So that rules out Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley."
"Why don't we go to the Hogwarts Express then?" Upton suggested. "Neither of us has ever been on a train before."
We still wouldn't be on a train, but I supposed it was fun to pretend. There really wasn't any need for train travel where we lived. I supposed it could help the environment, but people tended not to like that.
"Alright." I agreed. It was then that he reached his hand into the jar, which looked oddly realistic. I couldn't help but wonder where he had purchased this stuff from. Was it something from eBay or Amazon? Could you sell something like that? I supposed that you could if you said that it didn't work. Or maybe it was from some sort of website in the UK where you didn't have to put that stuff.
"Hogwarts Express." He declared as he threw the powder into the air. I was touching his shoulders so it would hypothetically transport both of us.
At that point, something unexpected happened. It was how it was supposed to work, but the stuff wasn't supposed to work. The two of us disappeared. I felt like my body was changing in a way, but I really didn't have much time to deal with it because I pretty much passed out.
So that's just a bit of a beginning. Addie is played by Katherine McNamara. More will be revealed in the next chapter. Please don't forget to review.
