It was a cold winter night. Most of everybody stayed indoors to avoid freezing their hides off. That, and because most were asleep.
So no one noticed when one house in particular went alive with chaos, the yellow, flickering lights blinking to life behind the blinds in the windows. No one noticed its front door swing open, and no one noticed when a boy was thrown out into the snow, tripping down the its stone step from the force of his father's shove.
It was the dead of night, the peak of winter, and nobody noticed.
