As Yua was now in Iberia, she wanted to begin searching the nation for any clues regarding either the church of the deep or the abyssal hunters. She believed that if she could find either of them, then she would finally be able to find some answers. Currently, she was on guard duty; Rhodes Island was providing medical treatment to the people of Iberia, both infected and uninfected.
Her team, led by W, was in charge of watching out for anyone who might want to cause harm to the Iberians or Rhodes Island."Damn W, she isn't making things easy for me. She's only doing this to get back at Father." The white-haired lung thought to herself regarding the sarkaz. Ever since they had arrived in Iberia, W had been making sure the girl didn't get a moment's peace; any job that needed doing, W immediately volunteered Yua to do it. The lung was forced to do whatever W told her unless she wanted the sarkaz woman to spill her secret.
"At least mother and Aunt Swire are here; they are doing what they can to help me." Yua looked over at the other two women. They were doing whatever they could to help the poor girl. When W found out they were part of her team, she was not pleased about it. So she was also pushing a lot of jobs onto them. The three of them could tell W was enjoying every second of being in charge. As Yua was on guard, someone came up from behind her, "How are you holding up, Yua?" Turning around to see who it was, she was relieved it was her mother.
Smiling at the blue-haired lung, Yua replied, "I'm fine; I just wish I could get a break. This is getting too much." Looking at the younger lung, Ch'en could see bags under her eyes. She wished she could do more to help her, but Ch'en didn't want to risk getting on the wrong side of W. The sarkaz would be more than happy to tell the other operators of Rhodes Island who the white-haired lung truly was.
Then W showed up and called out to them, "Another job has come in, the medics need some supplies moving, better get to it, Yua!" They both turned to W, who was grinning ear to ear, clearly enjoying having power over the lung. Ch'en and Yua saw the smirk on W's face, knowing she was loving this, getting to boss the doctor's daughter around with seemingly no consequences. Yua then quickly said, "See you later" to Ch'en and headed off to help the medics.
When Yua had left, Ch'en walked up to W and spoke "This is going too far W, give the girl a break, she is exhausted." W replied, "Give her a break? And why would I do that? She's lucky I'm not pushing her harder, which I could do if I felt like it." Ch'en was really getting annoyed by this. She wished there was a way to take the heat off Yua. Ch'en then said, "Pushing her this hard will make her ineffective if we get into combat, she won't be good to anyone, Yua could end up getting herself or someone else killed, what will that accomplish?"
Without warning, W's expression changed from one of amusement to one of pure hatred. "The doctor will then know what it is like to lose someone they care about, unable to help them as they watch them die, feeling that utter despair, that is what it will accomplish." Then, W walked away, leaving Ch'en speechless. "Is that how much she hates the doctor? Is she willing to get someone killed? Someone innocent?" This made the lungs blood boil; she had to do something, and soon, consequences be damned...
In the Control Centre on Rhodes Island, Kal'tsit was waiting for a guest to arrive; they had a lot to discuss, especially her plan regarding Yua. After some time, a knock sounded at the door, and Kal'tsit knew who it was and told them to come in. The person then stepped into the Control Centre and spoke, "Greetings, Doctor Kal'tsit, I trust I am not late?" The ancient feline replied to her guest, "No, you are not late. We have a lot to talk about…Irene." This person was a member of the Iberian Inquisition, an inquisitor named Irene. "I take it this is about why you wanted permission for Rhodes Island to come and provide medical aid?" Irene asked as she walked closer to Kal'tsit. Kal'tsit nodded, "It is. However, there is a reason why I needed this."
"So please, tell me what this is about," Irene wanted to know why Rhodes Island had come to Iberia. Kal'tsit then began telling her story. "While we were in Kazimierz, taking part in a relief mission, a new operator turned up. She managed to get through the city when the guards were told not to let anybody in." Irene nodded to show she was listening. "What was odd about her is that she turned up in an advanced Rhodes Island uniform. That was the first strange thing about her. The second thing that is strange is that she said she is a lung that grew up in the slums of Lungman. At first, I thought she was a sarkaz, but after looking at her, I realised she was a lung. This got me curious: Why would a lung come all the way out to Kazimierz? We stop by there enough; she has had plenty of chances to approach us before." Kal'tsit continued. The liberi then spoke. "That all does sound odd, Doctor Kal'tsit. I apologize for interrupting. Please continue."
The ancient feline carried on her story, "The third strange thing is she said her mother was infected and passed away, but she isn't infected herself; in the Lungman slums there are many infected, so why isn't she?" This piqued Irene's interest as well, but where was Doctor Kal'tsit going with this? "Forgive me, Doctor Kal'tsit, but I don't understand where you are going with this. You are losing me." Irene wanted clarification. Kal'tsit then explained, "There is more. She acted peculiar around the doctor, and then a certain incident happened with Doctor Warfarin." Kal'tsit left out the part where she found her wanting to feed on Yua. "I then had a theory about the girl, I ran a blood test, and she matched with the doctor...she is his daughter."
This really surprised Irene; the fact that the doctor had a daughter. The man was certainly full of secrets. "That was certainly something I wasn't expecting, Doctor Kal'tsit," Irene said to Kal'tsit. "I am guessing the reason you wanted to come to Iberia is because of the doctor's daughter?" Irene guessed correctly. Kal'tsit nodded. "You are correct," she said. "Not too long ago, she was made his assistant, not just to bond with the doctor but also so I could keep an eye on her." Irene then interrupted again, "I understand that you have come to Iberia because of this operator, but you aren't telling me the exact reason why." Irene was desperate to know; Doctor Kal'tsit must have had a good reason for explaining all of this to her.
Kal'tsit then explained her reason, "The exact reason is because she has taken a file, one in regards to the church of the deep and the abyssal hunters." Now Irene understood the situation. The liberi said, "Now I understand, Doctor Kal'tsit. You want to see if she is a member of the church of the deep, an enemy to Rhodes Island, correct?" Kal'tsit nodded. So, Irene continued, "Well as far as we know, Doctor Kal'tsit, the abyssal hunters are still in Iberia. Our inquisitors have found several hideouts where they have clashed with the church of the deep. I'm guessing you want this girl to find them?"
Kal'tsit replied, "Yes, but currently we have a problem; one of our operators knows that she is the doctor's daughter, W. And because of this, we have to listen to her demands. She is currently their squad leader, and two other operators she is close with know who she is as well. We need them out of the way so that Yua, codename Smokescreen, can search for either the abyssal hunters or the church of the deep. That way, we can confirm whether or not she is an enemy." Irene knew of W, a terrifying force on the battlefield. Getting rid of her wouldn't be easy, but it had to be done. Doctor Kal'tsit wouldn't want her dead, just out of the way of her plan...
The other two operators probably wouldn't be a problem, just W in Irene's mind. "I understand Doctor Kal'tsit, I will send word to my organization, we will make sure W is dealt with tonight." Kal'tsit thanked Irene for understanding the situation, and Irene then left the room to set her own plan in motion. Once Kal'tsit was alone, she thought to herself, "Now we will see where your loyalties lie, Yua. Are you an ally or an enemy?"
W had such a great day. Getting to order around the doctor's daughter was amazing for her, and she worked the lung hard. Eventually, when she let Yua go to bed, she warned her she better get all the rest she could. Tomorrow would be even more difficult. "After ordering her around so much, I've earned myself a drink; it's thirsty work." W thought to herself as she was on the way to an Iberian bar. However, as W was walking, several people blocked her path. W didn't recognize them. "Who are you clowns?" she asked the group. They didn't respond, and more people then blocked the path behind her. "I see what's going on now," W realised the danger she was in. "They have no idea who they are messing with."
W spoke to them again, "Listen, all of you, I would think really hard about what you are about to do; I advise you to get out of my way, or you will regret it." The people around the sarkaz didn't listen; instead, they drew their weapons. W knew there was only one way out of this—drawing her guns, W started firing at her enemies, hoping to take them out. However, they all seemed to have shields. They looked like they were prepared for W. "Dammit! These aren't your average thieves." W then changed tactics and got into cover. W prepared a flashbang and threw it from where she was hiding.
The flashbang exploded, and she came out of cover. W was then prepared to shoot at whoever she could, but they all disappeared. "Where the hell did they all go?" W asked herself, knowing that many people couldn't disappear that quickly. However, before W could look for her enemies, she felt a pinprick in her neck. Looking to see what it was, W pulled out a dart. "A dart?" she thought, looking at the object. Her vision then began to darken, and she couldn't stay up. "I've been drugged!" she realized as she hit the floor before passing out. The last thing W heard was, "Good, you are out of the way..."
