The sun hit the lung on the face, which caused her to wake up, "Uggh…Where am I? What happened?", Yua asked no one in particular as she was getting her bearings.
As the white-haired lung became more aware, she tried to move her arms but noticed she could only move one of them. Looking at the arm that she couldn't move, the lung noticed that it was in a cast. "Why is my arm in a cast?" Yua then remembered what had happened.
"Wait a minute! I remember! The job for W…that huge sarkaz…the fight…my originium arts." Yua was remembering more of what happened, of the fight with the huge sarkaz that she fought with and how she had to use her originium arts to defeat him, in her eyes it was the only way she could have survived.
The lung remembered the last time she tried to use her originium arts in the future. Her mother somehow found out about it. The white-haired lung shuddered when she remembered the scolding she received from Ch'en.
Yua found fighting seaborn less terrifying...
Looking around at where she was, the lung could notice lots of medical equipment around her, which indicated to her that she was in a hospital ward or something similar. Yua then noticed a figure at the side of her bed that was in a chair and was fast asleep.
"Amiya? How long has she been here?" the lung wondered. Yua could tell that Amiya must have been here for some time, more than likely watching over her and waiting for her to wake up.
The lung did find it endearing in a way that Amiya cared for her so much. Deciding it was time to let her sister know that she was awake, Yua called out to her, "Amiya, Amiya, Terra to Amiya, are you there?" The cautus began to stir when she heard her name called out to her.
When Amiya opened her eyes, she could see Yua was awake, which caused the cautus to have a huge beaming smile on her face.
Amiya then got up from the chair she was in and gave the lung a gentle hug, knowing that she was injured, "Yua! I'm so glad you're awake! I thought I had lost you! You have been unconscious for the past nine days! Nobody was sure you would wake up!" This shocked the lung. "Nine days?! I've been out of it nine days?! How badly injured was I?" Yua wondered how badly her injuries were.
Yua wanted to ask Amiya questions, but seeing how the situation was, she thought it was best to hold off for now. She would let Amiya enjoy the fact that she was awake; she must have been worried sick about her.A voice then broke up the sisterly reunion. "Glad to see my patients awake, not going to lie Yua, you had a lot of us worried you weren't going to make it." Both of them turned towards the voice, and they could see it was Doctor Gavial.
The archosauria also had a smile on her face. She was glad the lung pulled through.
Yua wanted to know how bad her injuries were, so she decided to ask Gavial. "Doctor Gavial, Amiya said that I have been unconscious for nine days, may I ask how badly was I injured?" Gavial's face then lost its smile. The archosauria paused for a moment before letting Yua know the extent of her injuries.
"Not going to lie, Yua, you were in terrible shape. Your left arm was broken and still is. Four ribs of the left side of your ribcage are the same. You also had internal bleeding. How you managed to survive that is beyond me. Me, your father, Doctor Kal'tsit, and Amiya did not think you were going to make it. Amiya and your father have been worried sick. The doctor refused to leave your side for the past few days. His health would have taken a turn for the worse if me and Kal'tsit didn't threaten him to get him to leave. Amiya told him that she would watch over you for him. He still has to conduct the relief operation here in Lungman." Gavial explained to Yua.
Yua realized that it would be best to let the doctor know that she was awake, so she asked if someone could let him know.
Gavial volunteered to go get her father, so she left the room to go and fetch the doctor. This left Yua and Amiya in the room alone. While they were alone, Yua and Amiya engaged in small talk, discussing everything from what was going on in the landship to the relief operation currently going on in Lungman.
After some time, Gavial returned with her father, and Doctor Kal'tsit had decided to come as well. Seeing his daughter alive, the doctor began to speak. "Thank the heavens…I'm so glad you are alive, Yua…I was so afraid that I lost you…words can not express how happy I am that you made it." The doctor struggled to get his words out.
Yua could tell the man was holding back tears from the way he was talking; she also noticed that he had taken off his trademark helmet, revealing tear-filled eyes.
Seeing the doctor struggling to hold it together, Kal'tsit then decided to speak. "We are all relieved you are still with us, Yua," the ancient feline said to the lung. "Your father has been struggling these past few days. Many operators on Rhodes Island have been worried about your condition as well; they will be pleased to hear you are still with us." Kal'tsit wouldn't admit it openly, but she had grown fond of the lung, despite who her father was.
Kal'tsit knew that Yua had secrets she was still hiding from her, but deep down, the ancient feline could begin to tell that the white-haired lung was a good person.
She could also see the bond that she shared with Amiya. Even though the two weren't sisters by blood, Kal'tsit knew how much the two meant to each other. Yua also inadvertently helped Kal'tsit herself, by helping out with her father's work, Yua also made Kal'tsit's job easier as well; she was grateful for all the work she did.
Hearing what Kal'tsit said put a huge smile on the lungs face; she was touched that many aboard Rhodes Island cared about her...
However, there was one issue that everybody in the room, bar Yua herself, wanted to know – what caused her to end up in the condition that she ended up in.
The doctor, despite seeing his daughter, was still alive, needed to know. The man wanted to make sure that Yua never ended up like this ever again; he couldn't bear the thought of losing his daughter.
Steeling himself before speaking, the doctor calmed his emotions before questioning Yua. When he was sure he was ready, he began to question the lung. "Yua," he said, "I want you to be honest with me. What caused you to end up in this state? We know that W was the one who found you like this. Was she responsible? If she was, tell me, and I promise I won't let her get away with this."
When the doctor and especially Amiya found Yua in the condition she was in and found out W was the one who brought her to Doctor Gavial, they were both furious. Amiya was ready to hunt her down again, but the doctor managed to stop her.
He convinced her that it was best to wait to hear what Yua had to say if she managed to wake up. However, if she didn't, then the fate of the sarkaz would have been sealed, and both of them would have blamed her.
Yua knew she had to be careful when answering her father's question; W still had her locket, and if Yua told her father and everyone else in the room that W sent her to take some supplies to some sarkaz men, then W would have no problem revealing her secret.
It took some time to think of a good cover story that wouldn't incriminate the sarkaz woman; when she thought of one that sounded plausible, Yua then looked at everyone else in the room and then began to speak.
"No, father," the white-haired lung began explaining. "W isn't responsible for this. I'll tell you what happened. I wanted to help the people of Lungman, so I decided to take some supplies and a vehicle and drive into Lungman to help who I could. While on my way, I was ambushed by some sarkaz men on the outskirts of the city who wanted those supplies. I had to fight them off; a huge sarkaz man nearly killed me, and I had to use my originium arts to stop him. I then passed out, Father."
Yua hoped her cover story would sound plausible and would keep everyone else from knowing the truth; W couldn't be connected to this in any way...
When the doctor heard what his daughter said, he breathed a sigh before talking to the lung, "Yua, I understand why you would want to help your fellow countrymen, but you can't go behind our backs like this. I could have lost you. We could have lost you. You had no idea how worried we all were when we first saw you in the condition you were in. Yua, I know you meant well, but please never do something like this again. If you really want to do something like this, inform us first and take someone with you. I don't want to lose you." The doctor told the lung.
Yua felt guilty for lying to her father and everyone else, but she knew it was what she had to do to keep them from suspecting W.
Everyone in the room seemed to believe her story, so Yua thought that she was in the clear. However, Kal'tsit wasn't completely convinced. The ancient feline believed that W was involved in some way, but she didn't have any proof. She only had Yua's story to go by.
Kal'tsit began to think, "W has to be involved in this, but why is Yua protecting her? Does W know something that Yua doesn't want others to find out? Everyone already knows that Yua is the doctor's daughter, so what could it be?" Kal'tsit couldn't think about what it could be. She could only believe Yua's story for now. Kal'tsit promised herself she would find out the truth sooner or later.
After all of this, Gavial decided that it was best to speak to the doctor and Kal'tsit in private. The archosauria did some scans of Yua while she was unconscious and found something that she knew the pair had to know. "Doctor, Kal'tsit, I need to talk to the two of you in private. Can we talk in my office? This is something you need to hear."
Both of them turned to the archosauria and nodded; the doctor then looked at Amiya and asked her to keep Yua company while they were gone. Amiya happily responded that she would.
The doctor, Kal'tsit, and Gavial then left the room and headed to Gavial's office where they could talk without any interruptions. When they arrived, Gavial then locked the door behind them, and she then went to her desk and picked up an envelope, and handed it to the doctor, telling him to open it.
When he did, he found pictures of scans—scans of Yua. He then looked at Gavial and asked, "I'm guessing this is what you wanted to show us, Gavial? What are these scans about?" Gavial replied, "That's right, they are scans, scans of Yua. I took them while she was unconscious. They show the injuries that she suffered. But, doctor, I want you to look at the scan of her nervous system. That is what I wanted to show you."
The doctor looked through the scans and found the one of Yua's nervous system. When he saw it, he began to understand why Gavial wanted him to see it: "Her nervous system, it looks damaged somehow. But what could have caused this? She's young, it shouldn't be like this."
The doctor then handed the picture to Kal'tsit and she looked at it as well. When she saw it, the ancient feline came to the same conclusion; Yua's nervous system shouldn't look like this for someone as young as she was.
Both of them looked at Gavial, who then began to explain the scan. "I take it you understand what that scan shows," said Gavial. "Yua's nervous system is damaged, and I don't think it is because of the attack she suffered at the hands of those sarkaz. Yua mentioned that she had to use her originium arts to survive, I believe that is the cause of it, and I don't believe it is the first time she has had to use them as well. That is my theory."
Both the doctor and Kal'tsit could only agree with Gavial's theory. Kal'tsit herself knew of several operators at Rhodes Island who's originium arts caused damage to their bodies. It seemed that Yua fell into that category as well.
The doctor was hit hard by this. He now knew his daughter was playing with life and death whenever she used her originium arts. "If she carries on using them, it will kill her eventually. Did her mother know about this? It doesn't matter. I have to find a way to stop her from using her arts, I'm not going to lose her!" the doctor thought to himself, he would need to have a talk with Yua in private when she was fully recovered.
He wasn't going to lose the white-haired lung; he would explain to her the consequences if she carried on using them…
Over the next several weeks, Yua's recovery from her fight with the Sarkaz men was slow.
Amiya and the doctor helped her out whenever they could. The lung only had one usable arm, and she found certain tasks to be somewhat difficult.
When Yua was able to walk, she wasn't allowed to leave the landship, causing the white-haired lung to feel useless.
Yua was still part of the Abyssal Hunters, and Gladiia was keeping her up to date on their goings-on; they had managed to locate a hideout of the church of the deep several miles outside of Lungman and destroyed it.
Yua wanted nothing more than to be out there fighting these cultists and fighting for the future. One day, while the lung was resting in her room, she received a knock at her door.
Believing it was her father or Amiya, she went and answered it. However, who Yua saw at the door wasn't her father or Amiya; it was W...
"I should have known I would see her again sooner or later." Yua bitterly thought to herself. She had a good idea why the sarkaz was here; it was most likely about the job W sent her on a few weeks ago.
The lung imagined W still wasn't happy about what happened. "Well, I think you know why I'm here, don't you?" the sarkaz asked.
Without saying a word, Yua stepped aside and allowed W into her room and shut the door...
W then turned around to face the lung and spoke to her. "What happened the other week? It was supposed to be an easy job. How and why did you mess it up, Yua?"
Yua responded. "They were planning to do horrible things to me, but potentially other people as well, W. So I stopped them. Tell me, W? Who were those people?"
W replied, "Just some mercenaries I knew back in the day. I was planning to bring them along on a job i had planned. A job that i know you would be very interested in Yua."
"And what kind of job would I be interested in?" Yua asked. "Whatever it is, I want no part of it." Yua declared that she didn'twant to be involved in the sarkaz woman's schemes.
W, however, had a huge smirk on her face, as she knew that the response was exactly what she expected. But the sarkaz woman knew that all of that would change when she told Yua the name of the person that this job involved.
"Trust me, Yua; you won't be saying that in a minute. You will be very interested in what I will tell you." She said to the lung. Yua had a look on her face that said "Go on and tell me then." W then said the name of who all of this involved.
"Talulah..."
