"I'm a fool, a damned fool." The doctor was telling himself as he was walking through the landship. Since working on his plan to destroy the church of the deep, he had completely ignored two people who he cared so much about. Ch'en and Amiya. This morning Kal'tsit, Hoshiguma, and Swire all had enough. The three of them marched into the office and demanded he started looking out for them. The man tried to explain that he was working on a way to get revenge on the church of the deep for killing Yua.
None of them wanted to listen, they said that he wasn't the only one grieving for Yua. They were as well. However, they also told him that the two others grieving the most were Amiya and Ch'en. They needed him right now. Revenge could wait. They couldn't. The doctor tried to argue again but couldn't find any justification for trying to carry on writing his plan. He knew that Kal'tsit, Hoshiguma, and Swire were right.
The doctor apologised to the three of them and left his office to begin searching for the two of them. He had to let Amiya and Ch'en know he was there for them. The doctor kept searching until he finally came to Ch'en's room. He then knocked on her door, "Ch'en...it's me. Can I come in? I want to talk." The doctor told the person who he believed was on the other side of the door. He waited for a few seconds until it was opened. The person who opened the door wasn't the blue-haired lung. It was someone who he classed as his other daughter, Amiya.
The man took a few seconds to glance up and down Amiya and could see she looked terrible, "By the gods...how could I have ignored this. What have I done? I should have realised how hard Yua's death would have hit Amiya, I should have been here for her and Ch'en. Not behind a desk. I'm so sorry Amiya, I'm going to make this up to you and Ch'en. I promise you both." The doctor swore to himself upon seeing his second daughter. He was disgusted with himself with how he wasn't here for his family, that, however, was going to change starting from now.
"Doctor...What are you doing here?" Amiya asked weakly. She hadn't been looking after herself since her sisters death. The doctor replied, "I've come to see Ch'en, I also want to see you, Amiya. Is she here? I want to know if she is okay." Amiya stepped aside, and the doctor walked into the lungs room. The doctor could see Ch'en sitting on her bed, curled up in a ball. The man could also see several bottles of empty alcohol next to her bed and could smell the alcohol in her room. Ch'en had clearly been drinking very hard since Yua's death. The doctor saw the state his partner was in and knew that something had to be done right now. He walked over to Ch'en's bed and sat right next to the blue-haired lung. Now closer, the doctor could see a far-off look in Ch'en's eyes. He could see the pain in her eyes.
Amiya had shut the door and sat next to the doctor on the opposite side of Ch'en, the cautus waited for what the doctor wanted to say. The room was silent for some time as nobody wanted to talk about the subject they knew needed to be discussed between them. The emotional wound was still very fresh for all three of them, and nobody wanted to open it back up. The doctor, however, knew that it couldn't be avoided, as much as he didn't want to talk about it, either it couldn't be ignored, and all of them had to face it.
The man decided to speak but would address his fault first, "Amiya...Ch'en...I know that since...what has happened I haven't been the best to either of you. I've let you both down, you needed me, and I ignored you both. I was so focused on planning to get revenge that I didn't realise how bad both of you were suffering. I'm sorry... I am so sorry. I promise to be here for you both now, I'm never letting either of you down like this ever again." The man promised his other daughter and partner.
Amiya listened to what the man said and simply looked down. She knew her father figure had ignored her and knew the reason why. The cautus also wanted revenge. She wanted the church of the deep to pay for ending her sisters life and could understand why the doctor hadn't had anything to do with them. At least Amiya knew he would be here for her and Ch'en now. It was a comforting thought, to say the least, in this difficult time.
Ch'en didn't know what to say to reply to the doctor. Her emotions were all over the place. Ch'en however, replied with what came straight from the heart, "I miss her doctor. Our strong, beautiful daughter is dead. It hurts... it hurts so much. She should still be here with us, doctor, not lying at the bottom of the ocean. It's all my fault, doctor. I should never have told Yua she was being removed from the field. If I didn't say it, Yua would still be here with us. It's my fault she's gone...it's all my fault, and nothing can bring her back." Ch'en began to weep when she finished speaking, the blue-haired lung was blaming herself for Yua's death.
Seeing a strong woman like Ch'en break down like this made the doctor realise that she could be just as vulnerable as anyone else. Everyone had their breaking point. It hurt the doctor seeing his partner like this. The doctor could see the consequences of not being here for Ch'en that was now at her lowest point. The blue-haired lung was blaming herself for her daughters death. The doctor knew that wasn't the case, the one's to blame were the church of the deep.
The man decided that Ch'en should not blame herself, he gently wrapped one of his arms around her and began to speak, "Ch'en, I want you to listen to me. What happened to Yua...it is not your fault. The one's who are to blame are the church of the deep. They took Yua's life, not you. So please don't blame yourself, I don't blame you, Amiya doesn't blame you, and Yua surely wouldn't blame you. Those responsible will pay, I promise you and Amiya... they will pay." The doctor told his partner not to blame herself. He knew the reason the lung was blaming herself was due to her grief.
The lung tuned her head to look at the doctor and could see sincerity on his face. He obviously didn't hold her responsible. Ch'en then looked at Amiya and could see the same look on her face as well. This gave the blue-haired some relief that the two people here and with her now weren't pointing the finger at her. Ch'en also heard the doctor wanted to make the church of the deep pay. She wanted them to pay as well for what they had done.
Ch'en looked back towards the doctor and said what was on her mind, "Doctor, I want the church of the deep to pay as well. Please, let me help. Let me have my revenge. I want to stop them, I don't want them to take the life of someone else's daughter. Please, doctor, let me have this." Ch'en pleaded to her partner. She personally wanted to deliver her vengeance to the church of the deep first hand.
The doctor wanted to tell the lung no, that he already had lost his daughter and didn't want to lose anyone else. Yua was also Ch'en's daughter as well, however, and it wouldn't be fair if she didn't get to deliver her justice towards her daughters murderers. Reluctantly, the doctor accepted the blue-haired lungs help in wanting to take down the church of the deep. Amiya then spoke up and said she wanted to help as well. However, the man drew a definitive line at Amiya wanting to help.
For him, that was definitely too far. The cautus tried to argue her reason to help, but the doctor adamantly denied that Amiya tried to help. He explained that he had already lost one daughter to the church of the deep and didn't want to lose another. He also told Amiya that in her current condition, she was in no state to help and would more than likely be a liability to his plan. Amiya reluctantly caved to the doctor, as painful as it was.
The doctor then turned to look at all the empty bottles of alcohol next to Ch'en's bed, he then looked back at his partner and began talking to her, "Ch'en, from now on I want you to stop drinking so heavily. It won't help. If anything, it will only cause you harm. Yua wouldn't want you drinking yourself to death, Amiya doesn't want you drinking yourself to death, I don't either. So please Ch'en, stop. If you won't do it for me and Amiya, then at least do it for Yua. Please." The doctor told his partner with desperation clearly present in his voice. He didn't want to lose the blue-haired lung.
Ch'en simply turned her head and slowly nodded to let the man know she understood. This gave the doctor some relief. At least he wouldn't lose Ch'en to something like alcohol poisoning. The three in the room then went back into silence. The only thought on their minds was their lost loved one...
After some time, the doctor left Amiya and Ch'en on their own together. He didn't want to leave them, but the man had to carry on with his duties to Rhodes Island. He would, however, be cutting down his workload to spend more time with Amiya and Ch'en in this very difficult time for them all. Before he returned to his duties, however, the doctor wanted to see a group of individuals, the abyssal hunters.
The group of aegir were part of the doctors plan for revenge against the church of the deep. They had been fighting the cult for some time, and their experiences would be incredibly useful to him. The doctor walked around the landship until he arrived at the room where the abyssal hunters were located. He knocked on the door and waited for it to open. The person who opened the door was the leader of the abyssal hunters herself. Gladiia.
The aegir looked at who had arrived and didn't seem surprised that it was the doctor. It was if she had been expecting the man for some time. Gladiia didn't say any words to the doctor. She simply stepped aside and allowed him to come in. The three other members could see the doctor had arrived and stopped whatever they were doing. The doctors arrival had their undivided attention.
Gladiia closed the door and then walked up to the doctor, "It is good to see you, doctor. It has been some time since we spoke." Gladiia then paused before speaking to the doctor again, "Doctor...regarding what happened to Yua...I am truly sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you and Madam Ch'en are going through right now. I promise you both that the church of the deep will suffer for your daughters death. You have my word on that as the leader of the abyssal hunters." Gladiia told the doctor with genuine remorse in her voice. She felt guilty for the death of the white-haired lung.
The doctor took a second to compose himself before replying to Gladiia. The man didn't like being reminded that his daughter was gone. "Thank you, Gladiia. I appreciate that. Me and Ch'en are finding it difficult at the moment, Yua's death has hit us both hard. Gladiia, regarding the church of the deep, they are the reason I came here. I know that you have been fighting them for sometime, I want to help you. I want to help in destroying them for what they have done. I want to personally join you in your missions, I want to personally see them pay for taking my daughters life." The doctor told his intentions to Gladiia.
He wanted to join the abyssal hunters in their fight. Gladiia couldn't refuse. The doctor had a reputation as an incredible tactical mind in Terra. Words of his exploits even reached the lands of the aegir. The leader of the abyssal hunters could see the tactical advantage of having someone like the doctor joining them on their missions, Gladiia also knew that with the doctor on their missions as well he would personally get to have justice for his daughter. It was a win-win for everyone.
Gladiia accepted without any hesitation, "Of course, doctor, you are more than welcome to join us." This pleased the man, "Thank you, Gladiia. This means a lot to me. Just to let you know Ch'en will be joining me as well. She wants justice for Yua. I know you might not agree with having her join you, but she deserves revenge as well. It wouldn't be fair on her if she didn't get to come as well, I hope you understand." The doctor told Gladiia about his partner joining him as well.
Gladiia wasn't comfortable with Ch'en joining her and the other abyssal hunters, especially with what happened to Yua. She didn't want anyone else to die. But, The blue-haired lung did deserve her revenge. It wouldn't be fair if she didn't get to deliver it. Reluctantly, Gladiia replied to the doctor that Ch'en could come with them only with the caveat that if it got too much for her then she was too retreat immediately, the aegir leader didn't want another death on her conscious. The doctor agreed to this and told Gladiia he would inform Ch'en when the two were together again.
The doctor and Gladiia thought that their business was concluded until another knock was heard at the door. This surprised everyone. Nobody expected anyone else to come. Andreana was the one who went to the door and opened it. The marksman had a quick talk with whoever was at the door and then invited whoever it was in. The people who stepped inside were very familiar to the doctor. It was Hoshiguma and Swire.
The two of them looked at the doctor with purpose. They came here for a reason. "We know what's going on, doctor. We want to join you as well. Yua was Ch'en's daughter, but she was also our friend. We want to see whoever killed her pay as well, don't you dare tell us no doctor." Hoshiguma told the doctor with absolute conviction in her voice. The green-haired oni wasn't going to take no for an answer. The doctor was about to tell Hoshiguma and Swire not to get involved but one more voice spoke out, "I wish to join you as well doctor, my complacency played a part in Madam Yua's death. I want to atone for my mistake." Everyone in the room looked around and could see Shirayuki had appeared out of nowhere. She, too, had a look on her face that told the doctor she didn't want to hear no.
Looking at the others who had arrived, the doctor could feel them staring into his very soul. The pressure he was feeling caused the doctor to cave. He simply sighed under their gazes, and he wasn't going to tell them no. Gladiia could see this and told the others they could join the abyssal hunters on their missions but told them that like Ch'en, if it was too much to retreat immediately. Hoshiguma, Swire, and Shirayuki all replied that they weren't going to run from any battles. They would fight to the very end to avenge Yua...
Seeing that others had joined herself and the rest of the abyssal hunters, the future Skadi began to quietly seethe. Skadi at first felt elated that the doctor would be joining them. She saw it as a chance to get closer to the man. That had changed now that Ch'en and her friends would be joining them, "These pests! How dare they interfere! They will all suffer the same fate! I will dispose of them just as I did Yua! As for you Ch'en, your friends will not save you! You will wish you had never wanted to join us! You will experience horrors that you have never seen before! Your friends will die just as your daughter! You will be wishing to join her soon enough, Ch'en Hui-Chieh!" Skadi began to plan for incredible horrors for Ch'en and the others.
The future aegir knew that it would be difficult to pull off under the watchful eye of the doctor, but she vowed to make it happen. Nothing was going to come in between the doctor and herself. She wasn't planning on losing him again...
