Stolas is currently strown about on one of the elegant lawn lounge chairs in the garden, in a overly dramatic position depicting an approaching death as he reads Hamlets final lines. "O, I die Horatio; The potent poison quite o'er-crows my spirit; I cannot live to hear the news from England; But I do prophesy the election lights on Fortainbras: He has my dying voice; So tell him, with the occurrents, more and less, which have solicited. The rest is silence."

Phenex stood above him with his own book in hand as he continued the play. "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince: And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!"

Stolas remained perfectly still as Phenex recited the lines, his head leaned back over the armrest of the lounge chair and his feet dangling off the end, his body spread about in an elaborate pose.

A satisfied smile tugged at the corners of his beak as he listened to his friend speak. They knew there was more to the play after hamlets death, but the two agreed that they preferred to end it there.

He sat up slowly and stretched, letting out a small satisfied groan as he did. Before either of them could utter a single other word, to their surprise, a gentle applause was provided by a female Imp servant who had been previously busy cleaning the pool until she became distracted; Having listened the whole time to their theatric performance.

Stolas was startled by the unexpected applause, his head jerking up and face reddening in embarrassment. He and Phenex had not been expecting an audience, especially from one of the servants.

Looking around quickly to make sure his father wasn't around to see, he stood up from the lounge chair gave a slight bow as one would after a performance. Phenex nodded his head once and mouthed out a "thank you" to the Imp.

"I-I didn't realize we had an audience" Stolas said awkwardly both to the Imp and Phenex, still feeling a bit embarrassed.

The Imp quickly lowered her head and bowed, trying not to let the smile on her face show too much. "No need to apologize, Your Highness" she said politely. "I was just cleaning the pool when I heard your performance. It was very good! You both have lovely voices!"

Stolas rubbed the back of his neck and let out a quiet laugh, still feeling awkward. "Thank you" he said with a small smile.

Phenex chuckled at the situation, amused by the Imp's compliment. "It's about time someone noticed our sublime acting ability!" he said jokingly, glancing over at Stolas with a smirk.

Stolas rolled his eyes at Phenex's comment, but couldn't help cracking a smile. They both loved acting and it had become somewhat of a passion project for them. But that's all it could ever be; It was a fun thought none the less. "I guess the two of us should go into theater, then" he replied sarcastically.

"Well if you do, both of you will already have a fan" the Imp joked.

Stolas chuckled, feeling more at ease now that the initial surprise had passed. "Well we'll make sure to put you in the front row then" he said jokingly.

Phenex turned to look at Stolas, the Imp having gone back to her work. "Are you still planning on going to that wedding tonight?"

He let out a sigh, having almost forgotten about the upcoming wedding that evening. "I am, unfortunately" he muttered, feeling less than enthusiastic about the event. His father had insisted on his attendance given that Stella was going to be there, so the two needed to "look like a couple". The thought of having to act like a perfect couple on display for all to see was nauseating to him. But he knew better than to argue with the king.

"Can't say I'm too thrilled about it" he continued, running a hand through his feathers in frustration. "The last thing I want is to parade around with Stella and act like a love-struck fool"

"Would it help if I came along? I was planning on spending my night catching up on the bones and psych episodes I've missed, but I can do that whenever."

Stolas felt a small spark of hope flicker in his chest at the offer. The idea of having Phenex around to endure the event with him was very tempting, but he didn't want to be a burden. "Are you sure? I don't want to drag you to something you'd rather skip. But I won't lie, I'd be grateful for the company."

"I really don't mind one bit. I enjoy the company the grooms family, and I will never pass up an opportunity to eat" Phenex slung his satchel over his shoulder and slipped his copy of Hamlet inside.

Stolas smiled gratefully, feeling some of his initial dread for the evening ease. At least he had Phenex to keep him entertained if things became tedious. "Alright, if you really don't mind. But fair warning, the bride is Andrealphus older sister, so while I greatly enjoy your one upping of the soon to be Marquis, I would recommend you be on your best behavior and avoid him at all costs" he warned, giving his friend a small smirk.

Phenex rolled his eyes and laughed. "Oh, come on. You're spoiling my fun" he teased with a smile.

"I'm just trying to look out for you," Stolas replied with a chuckle. "I can't have you starting trouble and getting thrown out of the event." He took a step forwards, slowly walking out of the garden with his friend.

"If I could be sure that they would throw me along with Andrealphus out of the ceremony due to misconduct, you couldn't even begin to imagine how quickly I would rile him up" He softly chuckled to himself, walking beside Stolas as they passed the threshold of the garden doors.

Stolas snorted, trying to hold back the amused chortling from coming out. He could absolutely picture the scene. "Please don't, for the couples sake" he said between laughs. "As much as I would love to see it, I think they would prefer not to start their marriage off with a verbal brawl between you and Andrealphus."

They continued down the corridor, the mansion void of the usual bustling of servants moving around to attend to their duties given it was around the time of one of their scheduled break. Stolas felt a sense of comfort in the presence of Phenex, the thought of the wedding later tonight a bit less of a burden with his friend there.

"I suppose we should start getting ready to leave soon" he said, turning to glance at the grandfather clock in the hallway.

It wasn't quite time to be setting off yet, but there was no point in delaying the inevitable. The wedding would be starting within the next two hours, and they both had to prepare and dress. Stolas let out another sigh, already dreading the entire thing.

"Oh, if only I was only enough to drink by now. Then I could just keep my mind numb until the party ends" he grumbled, staring at his reflection in the reflective surface of a nearby window.

"Seventeen and already contemplating abusing alcohol. What a world we live in"

Stolas laughed bitterly, his usual sense of humor slipping through despite everything. "The unfortunate reality of being Goetic royalty, is it not?"

He averted his gaze away from his reflection and looked at his friend. "But I suppose the company of a good friend will be better than any amount of alcohol any day" he said with a small smile.

"Are you insinuating that you find my presence addicting?"

"Don't flatter yourself" Stolas replied, grinning widely. But even as he spoke, it was with the knowledge that he'd probably be addicted to much more than just his friend's company if he could.

Stolas found himself staring at Phenex for a few moments, taking in the sight of him. Phenex was very attractive, He couldn't and wouldn't deny that. But what he was appreciating even more so at the moment, was how he seemed able to always and effortlessly brighten up his mood.

He averted his gaze to the side as a slight blush crept across his cheeks. He felt like a fool for the way his heart picked up in pace whenever Phenex smiled or talked to him. Stolas cleared his throat and gave Phenex a small smile, attempting to push those feelings down and act normal. "Anyways, we should probably start getting dressed. I'd rather not have to listen to my father lecture me about being late."

Phenex paused their walk to take a moment to concentrate. After focusing his power, a portal opened in front of him that lead to his bedroom. "I'll see you at the party" he said with a smile after turning his head around to look at him.

Stolas nodded and watched as Phenex walked through the portal, disappearing from view. The thought of the upcoming event and the, albeit temporary loss of his crush sent a wave of mixed emotions through him, but he had to push on and prepare. With a heavy sigh, he turned away from the hallway and made his way towards his room to get ready. It was time to once again play his part.

After a tedious hour and a half of bathing, styling his feathers, applying makeup, and putting on his finest dress clothes, Stolas finally finished preparing himself. He gave himself a final once-over in the mirror. He looked at himself with a sense of detachment, seeing the metaphorical mask he had to wear for the evening. A facade of a prime royal, no faults or imperfections, and certainly no loathsome love for his closest friend.

The rich fabric of his suit hugged his figure tightly, accentuating his slender frame. His hair feathers had been carefully brushed and smoothed back, giving him a regal appearance.

He looked perfect, the perfect prince.

Taking a deep breath to steady his nerves, he adjusted his suit cuffs one last time before finally leaving his room and heading downstairs, the echoing of his footsteps the only noise in the empty halls.

As Stolas reached the last few stairs, he saw Paimon waiting for him near the front door, already dressed in his own regal suit. He felt a sense of dread at the sight of his father, knowing the coming event would be tedious at best, even with Phenex present.

Paimon looked at him as he approached, his eyes scanning over him with an appraising look. To the casual observer, the glance would look like a father admiring his son. But Stolas knew better, and he could feel the judgement in his gaze.

"Well, you look presentable enough" he commented as Stolas came to a stop in front of him. He didn't say anything in return, not really in the mood for idle conversation. "Just remember to keep yourself composed and act like the prince you are." His father continued, eyeing him carefully.

Stolas nodded, knowing well enough what Paimon was implying. He wasn't allowed to be a normal teenager with any type of desires or interests. He had to be the prince, and any deviance from that was unacceptable. "I will father. I understand" he replied, his voice emotionless and detached.

"See that you do" was all Paimon said in response, his tone stern and unwavering.

For a moment, they simply stood in silence in the entrance hall, the tension in the air palpable. Stolas fidgeted with the sleeves of his suit, uncomfortable under his father's gaze. But with a gesture to the servants, the front door was opened. Immediately, Paimon turned on a dime and walked out of the mansion.

Stolas followed him as they made their way towards the waiting limousine. The air was cold and crisp, his breath visible in the evening backdrop.

The ride was quiet and awkward, both father and son sitting opposite of each other in silence. Stolas kept his gaze focused out the window, his mind drifting elsewhere as he avoided looking at Paimon.

As they traveled, the city lights illuminating the early night, Stolas couldn't help but think about Phenex. He wondered what his friend was doing right now, if he had already reached the event and started mingling with the other guests. The thought of seeing him soon made his heart beat just a bit faster in his chest. But he quickly pushed it down, focusing on just getting through the night.

After what felt like an eternity, the limousine finally arrived at their destination, coming to a stop in front of the opulent manor belonging to the family of the groom. The building was grand and elegant, its architectural style drawing heavily from Spanish colonial. Stolas and Paimon exited the limousine, the evening air a stark contrast to the warm cabin. The sound of music drifted through the air from the manor as they walked up the stone path leading to the front doors.

Once they entered the building, the sound of muffled conversation, and music filled his ears. The interior was just as impressive as the exterior, with large intricate archways, tile flooring, and elaborate chandeliers.

The foyer itself was crowded with various nobles, all dressed in their finest attire and indulging in small talk. Stolas caught snippets of a few conversations as he and Paimon made their way further into the building, it took all his willpower to keep from rolling his eyes at the pretentiousness he overheard. He kept his head held high and his expression schooled as he followed in Paimon's path. His father paused occasionally to greet some notable guests while Stolas stayed by his side during the brief interactions, he said very little unless spoken to directly.

Eventually they reached the ballroom, the large space was even more crowded than the foyer had been. Servants bustled about, providing the guests with food and drinks while an orchestra provided the music. Stolas scanned the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of the one person he wanted to see.

After a few minutes, he finally spotted him. Phenex was near the center of the room, surrounded by a small group of other nobles, young and old. Even among all the fancifully dressed people, his friend stuck out to him as the most gorgeous.

Stolas felt the tug of longing in his chest. Phenex wore a suit that complimented the corvid incredibly well, the rich fabric clung to his form in all the right places, the tiger orange jacket with a black lapel matched his fiery plumage in the most breathtaking way. The feathers of his crown were preened back, showcasing his sharp features and mesmerizing eyes. Stolas was captivated by the sight in front of him. As a moth to a flame, he couldn't tear his gaze away. He watched as Phenex laughed at something one of the other guests said, his smile lighting up his face and making him look even more handsome.

He started in the direction of his friend when he was suddenly interrupted by a voice calling out to him. "To think, not even a year more and this will be our wedding"

Stolas froze, the sudden mention of his soon-to-be marriage like a cold bucket of water being poured over him. He turned his head, his heart sinking as he came face to face with the person who had spoken; Stella, his fiancé. She stood next to him with a falsely pleasant smile on her face, her arm casually reaching out and entwining with his.

"You should look a bit happier to see me" she continued, her tone cheerful and pleasant but there was a hint of warning to it. "After all, everyone is watching us. We wouldn't want to give them the impression we aren't the perfect couple"

Stolas forced a polite smile onto his face, his mind straining as he struggled to keep up a facade of calmness. "Of course, my dear" he replied through a clenched beak. "You're absolutely right."

Stella's smile widened into a more genuine-looking expression at his response, giving his arm an affectionate squeeze. "You're such a dear" she said sweetly, her voice taking on the slightest hint of genuine adoration. The praise should have made him happy, any other man would have loved to hear those words coming from his soon-to-be wife's mouth. But the only thing it brought forth was a sense of dread and resignation.

He glanced back in the direction of where Phenex was, his heart sinking a little when he noticed he had disappeared. The area was now inhabited by new, unfamiliar guests.

Stolas swallowed the lump in his throat as he turned his attention back to Stella; there was no point in staring at an empty spot like an idiot.

Stella gave him a knowing look, a smirk forming on her lips. "You're looking for Phenex, are you not?" she asked coyly.

Stolas' heart skipped a beat at the direct question, his thoughts racing to come up with a response. He quickly put on a neutral expression, feigning an air of detached uninterest. "What makes you say that?" he replied, keeping his voice even.

Stella chuckled lightly, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh, don't play coy with me, darling" she said, her voice oozing with sweetness. "I know you two are close. You were looking for him the moment we walked in here, I could see it in your eyes."

"Looking for who?" Phenex interjected, now standing to their side with three drinks in hand.

Stolas' heart skipped another beat, this time for a different reason as he heard the familiar voice. He turned to look in the direction it came from. Just his presence alone was enough to soothe his racing heart, but in this moment, seeing him up close was like a salve on a burn. He took in the other nobles appearance, drinking in every beautiful detail. It took all of his self-control to keep his expression neutral.

"Ah, Phenex. There you are." Stella said, her voice dripping with exaggerated pleasantries. "We were just talking about you."

"Only good things I hope" Phenex replied with a smile while he handed the couple two of the glasses he was carrying. From behind him, Ipos made his presence known. Mid sip of his own drink, so he was only able to waive a greeting.

"Of course. Only the best things" Stella said as she took the offered glass. She glanced at the drink in her hand before taking a sip and continuing. "I was just saying how you and Stolas here are practically inseparable."

Meanwhile, Stolas took his own drink from him, their fingertips brushing against each other ever so slightly. The subtle contact was enough to send a wave of warmth through his body, leaving him wanting more. He forced himself to refocus his attention on the conversation going on in front of him, doing his best to ignore the tingling sensation in his fingers from where they touched.

"Know someone for as long as we have know each other, and it becomes an inevitability" Phenex replied with a casual shrug. He took a drink from his own glass, his gaze flickering over to catch Stolas' eye for a brief moment, silently asking how are you holding up?.

Stolas felt his heart skip another beat, the silent look from the other man sending a flutter through his chest. He held Phenex's gaze silently, his expression unchanging as he responded to the unspoken question. I'm fine he replied silently, taking a swallow of his own drink to appear casual.

Stella, blissfully unaware of the silent exchange between the two friends, hummed in agreement. "Yes, I suppose that's true" she said, her tone light and cheerful. "How long have you two known each other again?"

"Oh I scarcely remember, it's been so long" Phenex looked towards the ceiling in thought for a moment before switching his attention to Stolas. "Would you say it's been what, six, seven years by now?" He took another sip of his drink as he waited for an answer.

Stolas glanced down at his own, sipping from it as he feigned a thoughtful look. "Hmm, sounds about right" he replied casually. "Quite a long time for demons of our age" In reality, he knew exactly when they first met; down to the day and hour. But he didn't dare mention it aloud, keeping the true anniversary held close within the confines of his mind and heart.

"Quite indeed" Ipos added his first addition to the conversation since arriving. He looked like he was about to say more, but his hat, and subsequently his crown slipping off his head kept him from speaking.

Stella's gaze darted downward as she watched the hat hit the floor. She tried to maintain her composure, but a small snort escaped from her mouth before she could stop it. "Looks like your hat wants to be somewhere else." she joked, a sly smile on her lips.

The other prince adjusted his hat with an embarrassed huff, his cheeks turning a light red from the mishap.

The corner of Stolas' mouth curled up in a small smile at the sight. He knew how fond Ipos had become of his hat, and his reaction to it's still not quite fitting him was more than a little amusing.

"You'll grow into it eventually" Phenex chimed in, trying to sound encouraging but a slight smile still graced his face. He reached out and patted Ipos on the shoulder in a playful manner.

"C'est facile pour toi de dire" Ipos mumbled while he adjusted his hat again, looking slightly disgruntled. "You don't have to balance a crown on your head every day"

That earned a chuckle from Phenex, the amused look still on his face. "You're right, I just have to balance a sword." he responded, referring to the rapier he currently was carrying for appearances. The comment was met with another huff from the taller aristocrat before he returned to his drink.

Stolas found himself smiling a bit more at the exchange. He always enjoyed the dynamic between his best friend and Ipos. They made quite the pair, and he had watched them bicker back and forth like brothers numerous times. Despite his dislike for small talk and parties like this, being around his friends made it somewhat tolerable, even if Stella was among them.

He took another quick sip from his glass, savoring the slightly sweet taste of the sparkling cider as he continued to listen to the banter between Phenex and Ipos.

Despite doing his best to hide it, Stolas couldn't help feeling a sense of annoyance when he saw the way Stella was looking at Phenex. She clearly thought he was attractive, her eyes practically eating up every inch of him as she sipped from her glass.

But it wasn't just her gaze that bothered him. It was the way she spoke to him - all sweet and polite, fluttering her eyes and acting like she was interested in the things he was saying. It was infuriating to watch, and it made his blood boil.

He wouldn't blame her however. Phenex was incredibly attractive in every sense. With his sharp features, relatively tall stature, and athletic build, he was the epitome of an ideal noble and he will certainly have no problems courting a prospective wife. But that didn't mean he liked the way she was looking at him.

He took another drink from his glass, trying to calm his growing frustration. He knew he had no right to feel this way. Phenex was just a friend. A best friend, yes, but still just a friend. He had no claim on the other man, no right to be possessive.

Before he could continue to stew in the train of thought, Stolas was rudely ripped from his private thoughts by the haughty sound of Andrealphus' voice.

"Phenex, I have to give you this. You do know how to weasel your way into good favor with powerful people"

"What can I say, I have a gift for politics and smooth talking" Phenex immediately replied. Stolas could tell he had put his guard up, but he kept his expression happy and relaxed.

The same couldn't be said for Ipos. "baise-moi" he muttered into his drink mid sip.

Stolas had to suppress a smile at his other friend's reaction. Ipos had never made a secret of his dislike for Andrealphus, and he wasn't afraid to show it at any given chance.

"And that gift is why I have decided to grace you with my presence..." He took a deep, reluctant breath before continuing. "You could actually be of assistance to me"

Phenex lifted a brow, a mixture of curiosity and amusement on his face. "And what, pray tell, do you need assistance with?" he inquired, taking a sip from his glass, an almost imperceivable smile on his face.

Stolas, Ipos and Stella looked between the two young men, watching the situation carefully. If there was one thing Andrealphus didn't do often, it was ask for help, especially from a rival.

"It has to do with the wedding speech..." His voice lower in volume. It was obvious how difficult this was for Andrealphus, you could almost feel the toll it was taking on his body. "Prince Vassago was supposed to translate my speech for his and the grooms family, but he took a tumble and hurt his larynx, now it's proving difficult for him to talk. He told me you speak enough Spanish that you could substitute for him"

Phenex's expression shifted to slight surprise at the request. He hadn't been expecting something like this. "Are you sure? Everything I know of Spanish was because I asked him if he could help me flirt with girls Spanish!"

Ipos choked slightly on his drink, struggling to hold back a smile. "You asked Vassago to help you flirt with girls ? Pour de vrai ? I don't know how I didn't think to do that first"

Despite the situation, Stolas was finding it difficult to keep a straight face. The mental image of Phenex stumbling over a few Spanish words just to flirt was both hilarious and endearing, and he couldn't help but silently laugh to himself.

Andrealphus, on the other hand, seemed both annoyed and exasperated by their reactions. "Please try and take this seriously" he demanded, giving the three of them a sharp glare.

"Is there no one else in his family who are bilingual?" Phenex asked, a little surprised he would be the first choice for a substitute.

Andrealphus rubbed the temples of his head as he answered. "None of the adults speak enough to be useful. Most of the heirs do, but none of them are comfortable enough to speak in front of such a large crowd. They are all much younger than us, after all"

Phenex seemed reluctant. In fairness, having to translate a speech into a language you only partially know in front of a large group of attendees would be a tall order. But stolas knew him to never be one to back down on challenging tasks. "When do you need me?" Said Phenex.

"Right after the ceremony" Andrealphus responded, looking slightly relieved that Phenex was willing to cooperate.

"Where is Vassago currently?" Phenex asked while handing his empty glass over to one of the Imp servants.

Andrealphus gestured lazily with his hand, pointing over towards a set of doors on the far side of the hall. "In the lounge being examined by a physician, said he would be out by the time the ceremony started."

Phenex nodded in acknowledgement, "If you'll excuse me then" he said, nodding towards to the other three before heading towards the door Andrealphus had gestured towards.

The three remaining individuals watched as Phenex departed, before Andrealphus took a quick gulp from his glass and let out a sigh. "He better not mess it up" he mumbled, mostly to himself.

"No one was expecting anything out of it anyway, if anything he would be improving it !" Ipos jabbed, looking all too pleased with himself. Stolas shot him a cautionary look to behave, before speaking up himself. "Phenex is more than capable. He will handle it perfectly"

Andrealphus merely rolled his eyes in response to Ipos' comment, clearly not appreciating his attitude.

Stolas watched as Phenex walked through the lavish doors and towards the lounge, his steps light and sure. He didn't have a lot of time before the ceremony started, but he was clearly determined to check on his friend.

Stolas quickly excused himself from the other two before quickly following after Phenex. He quietly padded down the large ballroom towards the doors, his heart thumping loudly in his chest with each step. What am I doing? He pushed the question out of his mind and pushed through the doors, stepping into the quiet of the lounge without making a sound. The door closed behind him with a soft click, and he looked around the room, taking in the scene before him.

Vassago had Phenex in a tight hug, nearly lifting the taller demon off his feet. Despite the position he was in, Phenex was clearly used to this as he hugged him back best he could given his constricted arms. "It's good to see you too"

He stood near the doorframe, watching the two friends interact with each other for a few moments. He felt a pang of jealousy seeing Vassago's arms wrapped around Phenex's body, his heart constricting with the familiar emotion. He should be the one hugging Phenex. He should be the one having his embrace returned. He mentally scolded himself for having such a selfish thought, trying to push the feeling away.

Why is Vassago hugging him like that? he silently wondered, his mind racing with the possibilities.

Letting Phenex down, Vassago quickly snatched up a whiteboard and marker laying on a nearby coffee table and wrote on it. "!It's been far too long my friend!"

"Vassago, I saw you last week" Phenex gave a slight laugh as he responded to the prince.

Stolas couldn't help but watch the interaction between the two, his curiosity and frustration building. Why was Vassago able to hug and touch Phenex so freely?

Vassago used the side of his hand to erase what he had scribbled, he took notice of Stolas' presence, a smile gracing his face as he waived him over.

Stolas blinked, realizing he had been caught watching. He inwardly cursed at himself before walking over to where they were standing. He tried to act nonchalant, as if he hadn't been watching them with quiet envy just moments before. "How are you feeling?" he asked, looking from one friend to the other.

Vassago gave him a thumbs up before writing on the whiteboard again. "The doctor said It's only temporary and I'll recover soon enough, no need to worry"

"That's good to hear." Stolas replied, relieved that Vassago was going to be fine.

He shifted his gaze to Phenex, who was standing nearby with a look of mild annoyance and fond bemusement on his face, no doubt used to Vassago's antics.

"You really should be more careful. That could have been far more detrimental than a bruised larynx." Phenex told him as he sat down on a couch that lay parallel to another.

Vassago only responded to that with a dismissive wave of his hand, as if the injury were a mere inconvenience and not a serious matter.

Stolas followed and sat down on the couch as well, taking a silent seat right next to Phenex.

Fuck, he's close, he thought as he settled in his spot, his thigh nearly touching Phenex's. He tried to act casual about it, as if he hadn't purposely sat so close.

He could feel his naturally high level of heat coming off of Phenex's body at their proximity, the presence of his friend making his heart rate pick up slightly. Be cool. Be casual he repeated to himself in silent mantra.

He listened as Phenex and Vassago continued their friendly banter, the conversation mostly consisting of mild ribbing and joking. He silently enjoyed the interaction; the easy comradery between the two boys, the comfortable atmosphere in the room, and the fact he was sitting so close to Phenex.

He tried to keep his focus on the conversation happening around him, but he found himself becoming increasingly distracted by Phenex's presence beside him. He subtle heat of his body and the subtle smell of his cologne, intoxicating his senses. He wanted to touch him, to reach out at run his fingers through his soft feathers, feel the warmth of their bodies pressed together...

No. No, no, no! he chastised himself in his mind. He's your best friend, not a romantic prospect! If he knew you were even thinking like this, he'd probably never look at you the same again!

He tried to push the thoughts and feelings away, forcing himself to focus on the conversation happening around him. But he couldn't help himself as he shifted his leg, his thigh pressing against Phenex's unintentionally. He felt his cheeks flush slightly with embarrassment and he hoped Phenex didn't notice the accidental breach of personal space. He tried to make it look causal, as if he was merely adjusting his position on the couch.

He couldn't help but steal a glance at Phenex's face, trying to gauge his reaction from the corner of his eye. He didn't notice, right? he thought. Meanwhile, Vassago and Phenex continued their conversation, completely oblivious to his internal struggle next to them.

Every time he thought he had it under control, his heart would skip a beat when his leg would brush against Phenex's. Every time he looked up at his face, he imagined touching him in ways that were far more intimate than friendship allowed.

It was driving him insane.

"Well, I hope you get better soon" Phenex stood up from the couch, straightening out his jacket before continuing, "Just please be more careful"

Stolas watched as Phenex stood up, his body yearning to pull him back down again, to feel the warmth of his body again. No.. No, it's fine. Everything is fine he repeated to himself silently.

Vassago simply nodded, giving him a thumbs up as he settled back against the armchair he was currently occupying.

Stolas swallowed the bitter disappointment that rose up in his chest. He pushed down the feelings of longing and forced a smile, trying to act as normal as possible. "I'm sure he'll be more careful from now on" he spoke up, trying his best to sound casual instead of anxious.

"I hope so" Phenex gave a genuine smile that could light up a room, "Andrealphus will probably have a fit if he doesn't know exactly where I am right now, so I better make sure that doesn't happen. I'll see you after the ceremony" with that he turned and left the room.

And just like that, he was gone. Stolas' heart sank with a sense of loneliness as he watched him leave, already yearning for his presence again.

Vassago let out a quiet, pained chuckle from where he was sitting in the armchair, watching Stolas' reaction.

He felt his stomach twist and his cheeks flush under Vassago's knowing gaze, embarrassed that he was so obvious with his feelings. He turned to look at the other prince, trying to keep his expression neutral. "What's so funny?" he asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

Vassago only smirked, his eyes watching Stolas' face for a moment before he began to write on the whiteboard that was laying on his knee. Once he was done he held it up so Stolas could read the message.

"You like him, don't you?"

Stolas felt his heart skip a beat as he read the message.

He knows

He swallowed hard, trying to come up with a response that wouldn't give him away. But Vassago was watching him intently, his smirk growing wider as he waited for an answer. He tried to force out a casual response, but he couldn't stop the slight shake in his voice as he spoke. "Like him? Of course I do. He's my best friend."

Scribbling on the white board while shaking his head in disappointment, Vassago writes, "You know what I mean"

His heart raced as the other prince continued to press him further.

He thought about denying it, playing innocent, but he knew there was no point. Vassago was perceptive, and he wouldn't let the matter drop so easily. Taking a deep breath, he met Vassago's gaze head on. "Yes..." he admitted quietly. "I... like him... a lot"

"¿Does he know it?"

Stolas shook his head, letting out a small scoff. "Of course not. He has no idea how I feel. He doesn't know much I..." he trailed off, feeling very much embarrassed about what he almost let slip. "He has no idea" he repeated. "And that's how it needs to stay. He's not into guys. And even if he was, he probably wouldn't be into me"

He fidgeted nervously with the hem of his sleeves, feeling very vulnerable. "Besides, it's not like I would ever act on my feelings anyway. I'm not a fool." He avoided looking at Vassago, trying to push down the pain that came with the harsh reality of his situation. "Phenex is my friend, and I value our friendship more than anything. I have no intention of ruining that by confessing my stupid feelings. It's better if he never knows how I feel"

"¿How can you be sure it would ruin your relationship?"

Stolas paused. Vassago did have a point, he didn't know if it would necessarily ruin their relationship, that's just what he's told himself all these years out of fear. Stolas went silent for a while. He knew that deep down, a part of him really wanted to pursue something with Phenex. But the fear of rejection had taken hold and was strangling that desire. "But what if when he sees me, he's only disappointed? What if I give him my heart only for him to hand it back? I couldn't live with that"

His chest ached just thinking about the possibility. The thought of baring his soul to Phenex, to only have his feelings rejected was too much for him to bear. "That's why I'm fine, letting my feelings stew inside my me, appreciating him from afar"

Stolas took a deep breath before continuing, "I'm going to be married in less than a year anyway" The impending wedding to Stella hung in the air like a dark cloud. Even though he had accepted the arranged marriage a while ago, the thought of being married to a woman he did not love still made his stomach twist with dread.

His heart felt heavy as he read what the other prince wrote next, "It's not too late you know, a year is still a year. ¿why not take the chance and enjoy your last year of singleness with someone you love?"

He closed his eyes and let out a shaky breath, the suggestion making his heart flutter with both hope and anxiety.

Vassago tapped the board to get Stolas' attention, a new message having been written. "If he really becomes so offended over your confession that he wants to cut ties with you, then he doesn't deserve you"

Stolas opened his eyes to read the message, the words hitting him like a punch to the gut. He had never really considered things in that way before. But Vassago had a point, why would Phenex be offended by his confession if he supposedly viewed Stolas as a dear friend?

He couldn't help but feel a small seed of hope beginning to plant in his chest.

"Now tell me. ¿Do you really think he would do something as extreme as abandon your relationship?"

Stolas was silent for a moment as he considered that possibility.

He thought about the years of memories they shared, the late nights they spent together talking about anything and everything. The comfort and support they had always give each other. But most prevalent of all was when Stolas confessed his being gay to Phenex, they both knew it was looked down upon among the Goetic houses. But Phenex didn't ridicule, insult or mock him. He smiled and told him he supported him, and appreciated that Stolas had trusted him enough to tell him.

He looked at Vassago and answered. "No... no he wouldn't."

The realization hit him hard. Despite the fear that had held him back for so long, the idea of Phenex abandoning him was highly unlikely. Phenex was a kind and loyal person and he would never throw away their friendship on something as insignificant as this.

Stolas felt a rush of emotions coursing through him, the hope he had been trying to keep at bay beginning to bloom like a flame. He looked at Vassago, his eyes wide. "I... I think I want to talk to him."

Vassago gave him a firm look and wrote on the board again. "Don't let fear rule you. It's better to know now than to always wonder for the rest of your life, right?"

Stolas nodded. He was tired of living in the shadows, of hiding his true self to try and keep things the way they are. It was an exhausting and emotionally draining constant game of pretend, and he hated every second of it. He took a deep breath, steeling himself against the anxiety clawing at his mind. "You're right, Vass. I can't keep hiding like this, and I don't want to."

He stood up from the couch and gave Vassago a firm nod. "I'm going to tell him, tonight."

However, another issue presented itself, "What... do I say, how do I even start that conversation?" Stolas asked anxiously, feeling the fear rising in the pit of his stomach again. Despite the anxiety bubbling in his stomach, Stolas felt a strange determination to tell Phenex. He needed to finally put an end to the years of pining and dreaming.

Vassago gave him an encouraging smile and wrote on the board again. "Relax, I'm sure the right words will come to you when the moment is right and you will know when the moment is right. He may be a poet, but don't over think it, just speak from your heart, and be honest."

"Just speak from my heart." Stolas repeated to himself aloud, the words settling into the air.

It sounded so simple when you say aloud. But the anxiety in his mind still screamed for him to back down, that it wasn't worth the risk. He closed his eyes again and took several calming breaths. No. No, he wouldn't back down, not this time. "I can do this. I will do this."

His heart was in his throat, beating furiously in his chest like a bird trying to break free from a cage. But the determination to end the years of silent suffering and pretending was stronger than his nervousness.

He opened his eyes and looked back at Vassago, giving him a curt nod to tell him he was ready. "Wish me luck."

Vassago gave him two thumbs up before one of the Imp servant's entered the room. "My lords. I am sorry to bother you, but the ceremony is to begin in ten minutes"

Stolas let out a shaky breath. Time's up. He gave the imp a nod, "We will be on our way, thank you for the notice." He stood up and gave one last look to Vassago, "after the speech, I'll tell him how I feel"

Vassago quick held a hand up to Stolas telling him to wait for a moment. Standing up, he walked over to a bar in the lounge, moving around the counter he grabbed a small bottle of wine, handing it over when he reached Stolas. Through a strained voice he said, "If he shares your feelings, share this with him to celebrate. If he turns you down, then it will help take the edge off".

Stolas accepted the bottle, his hands shaking slightly from anxiousness. He felt suddenly very aware of the fact that he was about to put his heart on the line. He gave Vassago a shaky smile and placed the bottle in one of his jacket pockets. "Thank you..."

He looked down at his jacket and then back up at Vassago, a sudden thought occurring to him. "How drunk am I going to be if I down this whole thing by myself? Hypothetically speaking."

"Assuming you have no tolerance for alcohol. ¡Very!"

Perfect.

Taking a deep breath, Stolas squared his shoulders and walked out of the lounge. His heart was still pounding loudly in his chest, his mind racing with thoughts of what he was about to do. He glanced down at the bulge in his jacket pocket, where the small bottle of wine was hidden. Whatever the outcome, he hoped Vassago was right about the wine.

The wedding itself was a large and grand ceremony, with a sea of guests gathered. The hall was decorated with elegant floral arrangements and white ribbon, with the altar at the front of the room displaying the couple being married. Stolas kept his expression neutral and polite, despite the anxiety raging inside of him. As he watched the happy couple take their vows, he fidgeted nervously with the bottle through the fabric of his pocket.

Stella, who had returned to clinging to his arm tightened her grip by not an insignificant amount when the couple kissed. Stolas felt her grip tighten on his arm, the subtle increase in pressure enough to get his attention. He looked at her from the corner of his eye, suppressing the urge to flinch from her touch.

The crowd erupted into applause around them, some even letting out small cheers for the newly married couple. Stolas continued to hold his expression, his heart still racing with anxiousness.

As the ceremony came to a close, the guests started to get up from their seats and mingle amongst themselves. Some came over to congratulate the happy couple, while others went to find refreshments.

Stolas and Stella were berated by various guests, all commenting and exclaiming their inability to wait for their wedding. Stella would happily go along with the conversation while Stolas kept a polite smile on his face as he endured the stream of guests coming to congratulate the couple. He forced himself to make small talk and feigned interest in their conversations, all the while his mind was elsewhere. His thoughts stayed firmly on Phenex, and the speech that was coming.

Time seemed to both drag on and pass by too quickly at the same time, the guests still coming over to congratulate them and the constant comments about their upcoming marriage chipping away at Stolas's nerves. He struggled to keep his composure, his thoughts a tangled mess of worry and anticipation.

It felt like an eternity before Andrealphus walked onto the stage with Phenex in tow to give his speech.

The room fell silent as Andrealphus tapped his microphone to check it was on, his eyes sweeping over the crowd. He gave a small smile and began, "Greetings, honored guests. Thank you all for joining us on this joyous occasion. Today we celebrate the union of two of our own, joining together in unholy matrimony..." Andrealphus began, his usual loud and grandiose way of speech in full effect.

There was a pause as Phenex internally translated what Andrealphus said before he spoke. "Saludos, invitados... Gracias a todos por... sumarse en esta ocasión. Celebramos... la unión de dos de los nuestros, uniéndonos en matrimonio..."

Vassago's family could clearly hear how inexperienced Phenex was in the language, but they appreciated his efforts. Although his Spanish was shaky in some parts, most of the family seemed to understand him. Stolas himself watched his friend intently, his heart skipping a beat whenever Phenex spoke.

He found it endearing how the usually eloquent and poetic prince was struggling with his pronunciation and accent. He could only imagine the amount of time it took to even be able to get it that decent.

The speech continued like this for a few minutes, with Andrealphus reciting the prepared speech in his own style and Phenex translating it to the best of his abilities.

"And as you leave us, to make lovely memories with your new husband. I hope that you'll share some of those memories with me and the rest of the family!" Andrealphus ended his speech with all the dramatic flare he could muster.

Phenex recoiled slightly as he struggled to recall the words needed. "Mientras nos dejas, para hacer el amor con tu nuevo marido. ¡Espero que puedas compartirlo conmigo y la familia!" He knew what his translation came out as, but he put on a nervous smile and hoped to all that was unholy that Andrealphus' speech was over.

The room immediately fell into a chorus of hushed whispers, several of the guests looking shocked at the translation. It was clear that Phenex, in his struggle to remember the words, had mistranslated. Stolas hid a smirk, he had a feeling something of this sort might happen.

Some of the other guests looked amused and were obviously holding in their laughs at the mistake. Ipos, however, was having a hard time keeping his composure and was practically shaking in his seat from trying not to laugh; having been told what Phenex said by Vassago.

Andrealphus, though he looked shocked and embarrassed for a few moments, quickly regained his composure, covering up his shock behind his usual confident smile and waving a hand at Phenex to signal that he was done speaking.

Despite his mistranslation, Phenex flashed the crowd a smile and a slight waive before stepping away.

As soon as he had stepped away, Phenex received a few pats on the back and compliments from some of the guests. Several of them laughed and told him he did a great job, clearly finding the whole ordeal humorous.

Stolas got up to go approach Phenex and ask to talk with him in private. But despite his blunder on stage, Phenex was suddenly in high demand.

Several of the girls who were attending now had their eyes on him, openly flirting, touching him and giggling loudly in his ear at even the most basic thing he would say. All the attention did not go unnoticed by Stolas, who was watching his friend from a few feet away. He tried to keep his expression neutral, but he couldn't help feeling a pang of jealousy as one girl in particular, a crane of some variety, with beautiful grey and silver feathers across her body with a striking splash of red across her face, leaned in close and whispered something in Phenex's ear, her slender fingers gently caressing his arm.

The sight made his heart clench painfully in his chest. As he stood on the sideline, he tried to keep himself calm, but his mind buzzed with anxious thoughts as he watched the scene in front of him. What was the girl saying? How is he responding? Why was she flirting so shamelessly, did he like it? Why wasn't he pulling away? Why was he smiling at her?

As the music kicked up, and the newly weds began to dance, Stolas felt defeated as he watched Phenex receive all of this affection. His eyes stinged, he felt like crying, but he sure as hell wasn't going to do so where people can see him.

He quickly turned on his heel and headed for a balcony on the opposite side of the room, desperate to escape the pain he felt in his chest. What was I thinking, trying to confess my feelings? This was so stupid, Phenex would never feel the same He mentally chastised himself, feeling a sense of bitterness and despair building within him.

Stolas stepped out onto the balcony, the cool night air and quiet outside was a blessing compared to the overcrowded and noisy room inside. He leaned against the stone railing and took a deep breath, the tears finally falling as he had the privacy to do so.

He felt like a idiot, believing he had a chance only to have all his hopes and dreams dashed in an instant. Phenex wouldn't love him, that was clear now. He was attracted to women and wouldn't give Stolas a second glance.

The night sky was filled with stars, their faint light providing a stark contrast to the darkness of the night. Stolas stared up at the sky, lost in thought. Phenex was too good for him anyway, he deserved better than a wreck like himself, who had nothing to offer in return.

He deserved someone who wasn't depressed, neurotic, and constantly dealing with issues. Stolas mentally added to his already-long list of reasons why Phenex was better off without him. As he continued staring into the sky, he felt the weight of his own flaws crushing him. He was a mess, and Phenex didn't need that in his life, he didn't deserve a burden like Stolas.

The weight of the realization was crushing. It was true, he was broken and dysfunctional, unable to give the love and attention that Phenex deserved. He was damaged goods, a mess that no one would ever want to deal with. Tears continue to stream down his face as he held his gaze up at the night sky, the weight of his own worthlessness crushing him.

"Are you alright?" Stolas was so lost in thought he didn't notice the sound of the door opening behind him. He jumped slightly in startled surprise, his breath catching in his throat. He quickly turned around to see who had spoken, heart racing from the sudden interruption.

As he saw Phenex standing in the doorway, his heart seemed to skip a beat. He quickly wiped at his eyes and tried to compose himself, attempting to hide the fact that he had just been crying like a hopeless mess.

"Y-yeah, I'm fine" he replied quickly, his voice quiet and shaky as he tried to steady himself. He didn't want Phenex to know how broken he was, not wanting to burden him even more. "I just... needed some fresh air. That's all." He turned back towards the railing, avoiding eye contact with Phenex and trying to hide the remaining tears that still clung to his feathers.

"Then why do you look so upset?" Phenex took a step closer, wanting desperately to know what was bothering his friend.

"Nothing, really. It's nothing" Stolas dismissed quickly, still refusing to look at Phenex as he gripped the railing tightly, the stone digging into his palms.

His heart was racing and his mind was chaotic, torn between wanting to pour out his feelings but held back by the fear of rejection. He knew he couldn't tell the truth, couldn't burden Phenex with the knowledge of his feelings. It was better to pretend to be fine, to not let Phenex see how messed up he really was.

But as the distance between them shrunk, every instinct in his body ached to just give in and lean into him, to revel in the comfort that his friend could provide. Phenex stood right beside him and placed a hand atop Stolas', saying "Please, tell me what's wrong" He quietly begged.

The gentle touch of Phenex's hand sending a shiver down Stolas' spine, his heart rate rising even more. Stolas closed his eyes, feeling the tears threatening to fall again. Please, please don't do this to me. he mentally begged, his walls crumbling under the tender touch and the gentle tone of Phenex's voice, his heart crying out to confess all. But he couldn't, he shouldn't. He didn't want to ruin their friendship by confessing his true feelings, but every moment like this, where Phenex acted so gentle and caring made it harder to hold back.

He opened his eyes again, the tears now streaming down his face in earnest. He looked at their hands, the sight of Phenex's hand on his own like a knife in his heart. "I..." he began, his voice cracking and nearly giving out as he tried to find the words. The words were on the tip of his tongue, threatening to spill out, begging to be released.

Phenex didn't say anything as he waited for Stolas to speak, his eyes displaying his genuine worry and pleading for him to explain.

The look in his eyes was nearly enough to break him completely. The genuine concern and worry he saw there made it impossible to continue lying. Stolas took a shuddering breath, his heart racing and his mind warring with his heart on whether or not to say it. Say it! Just say it, tell him how you feel!

"The thing is..." Stolas began, his voice quivering with the emotional weight. "I-I just... it's just that I-" he was struggling to find the right words, the tears falling freely from his eyes. Say it, say it, say it! His mind pushed desperately, desperate to get him to admit his feelings.

He looked back down at their joined hands, watching as Phenex's fingers gently traced over his own. The touch was so tender, so caring, it was like a spark to dry wood fueling the fire of desire in his heart. He wanted to just grab him and hold on tightly, to never let go.

He couldn't hold it in any longer, the weight of his feelings pressing down on him and the tenderness of his friend's touch breaking him.

"The... the thing is, Phenex, I... I have something I've been wanting to tell you for years now" he managed to force out through the tears, his voice shaking and his hands shaking even more as he spoke, the confession of his feelings hanging in the air like a guillotine waiting to drop.

Phenex's gaze held a mix of worry and gentle affection, his hand still holding Stolas' in a firm but tender grip. He watched Stolas with a patient and attentive expression, waiting for him to continue.

Stolas took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart. He couldn't turn back now, his emotions had already taken over. "I've wanted to tell you for so, so long... but I've been too scared to say it" he began, his voice shaking and his eyes glued to their joined hands. A part of him felt like running away and hiding, but he didn't. He had to tell him.

"The thing is... I... have feeling for you, Phenex" he finally confessed, all at once. The words came tumbling out of his mouth like a dam breaking, and once they were out he couldn't stop them. "Since we were young, and it's only grown more and more each day. I can't keep these feelings hidden anymore, it's tearing me apart." The floodgates had opened, and all the pent-up emotions and words that he had been holding back for so long came rushing out in a torrent.

Phenex was grappling on how to respond, but before anything could be said. Stolas reached forward and cupped his face, appreciating it before he leaned in and gave a quick, but sweet and loving kiss.

It was brief but intense, full of all the love and passion Stolas had been holding back for so many years. The flood of emotions rushing out all at once.

As their beaks pulled apart, Stolas looked at Phenex, his eyes watery and his heart still racing. He couldn't help the soft, almost shaky laugh that escaped him as he spoke the words. "I love you"

He had said it. The words were out in the open, he had confessed his feelings to the only person he had ever felt this way for. It was a mix of relief and fear, and he was bracing himself for whatever reaction Phenex would have.

Phenex looked stunned by the admission and the kiss. While his expression was largely portraying his surprise, it was unreadable past that. Stolas' heart was in his throat, his hand still resting on his friend's face. The silence was deafening, the anxiety inside of him growing with each passing second.

After a moment more, Stolas let his hand fall, internally coming to a conclusion. He gave him a small, sad smile. "It's okay, I get it, you don't have to say anything"

He let out a shaky breath and looked away again. "I... I just needed you to know... I'm sorry" he whispered, feeling the weight of heartbreak begin to settle in. He should've expected this reaction, of course Phenex didn't feel the same way. He was a idiot for thinking he might. The tears fell freely now, his heart feeling as if it was going to burst.

He needed to get away.

"I... I should go" Stolas croaked, his voice shaky and broken. He wiped his tears with the back of his hand, trying to clear his vision even though his heart felt like it was being torn in two.

Quickly, he opened a portal, and walked right up to it before stopping and looking behind at Phenex long enough to say, "I hope we can still be friends." With that, he stepped though, the portal closing right behind him.

Stolas stumbled forward into the dusty surface of the moon, landing on his knees. The celestial body was the only place he could think of in the moment, where he could be in total solitude.

The dam of emotions finally broke, and he sobbed. Broken, desperate sobs of heartbreak and pain, of sorrow and grief. Months upon months and years upon years of secret feelings had finally come undone and been revealed. The sound of his cries echoed off the surface of the celestial body, a pitiful symphony of grief and loss. All the pain he had suffered over the years came rushing back to him, the words and abuse of his father, the eventual forced marriage, the lack of hope, all of which had been held together by the hope of a certain someone.

And now that someone had rejected him.

The tears kept coming, his arms wrapping around his stomach as the pain tore through him like a dagger. He felt like he couldn't breathe, the sobs racking through his body with a force that left him shaking. His mind played scenarios over and over, wondering what he could have done differently. What could he have said and done that would have changed the night's events.

All he wanted was to be loved, was that so much to ask? Why did life, why did the world, hate him so much that it refused to grant him one small mercy? They could have been happy together, happy enough to forget about the world around them.

But that wasn't meant to be. Phenex didn't feel the same, and the thought was enough to make another wave of sobs break through him. The silence around him was deafening, the cold uncaringness of the universe surrounding him made him feel more alone than ever.

Then he remembered the bottle of wine within his jacket.

A small part of him reasoned that getting drunk on lunar sand at nine a clock in the evening is a horrible idea.

But that part was quickly ignored by the part that longed for even a miniscule amount of comfort from the heartbreak he was feeling. He reached into the pocket and pulled out the bottle, fiddling with the cork for a moment before yanking it out and throwing it aside.

Without any more hesitation, he raised the bottle to his mouth and downed a large amount. The liquid tasted sweet and burned going down, and a feeling of warmth was left in it's wake. After about a few minutes of drinking, the effects began to take hold and his tears slowed as he felt a blissful numbness come over him. It did little to ease the pain in his chest, but the alcohol in his veins was a welcomed distraction.

The sharp pain of heartbreak and rejection began to fade, replaced by a warm, buzzing sensation. His thoughts slowed. He didn't feel better, but the alcohol definitely took the edge off. Still sipping on the bottle, he pushed himself up from his knees and sat down on the lunar surface, his back against a small rock as he closed his eyes and let the inebriation take him.

The surface was rough and the temperature was bitterly cold, but he barely registered any of that as he slowly began to lose himself in a drunken daze. His mind was in a fog, his heart was no longer pounding in his chest, and his vision was slightly blurry. He took another long sip from the bottle, the liquid now only filling half of the bottle.

In the daze of wildly running emotions and alcohol running in his system, he barely could register when a portal opened a few feet ahead of him with a figure stepping through. Stolas glanced up slowly, his vision slightly unfocused as he tried to make out who the figure was. The alcohol had dulled his senses, so it took a moment to realize who it was.

His heart rate quickened, but the alcohol still kept him calm. "Phenex..." he mumbled, his voice slurring slightly.

Phenex kneeled down to Stolas' level and gently grabbed the bottle from his hands and put it off to the side with his left hand, while his right held his poetry book.

Stolas watched as his friend took away the alcohol, a small protest forming at the back of his mind. But before he could fully form it, he stopped himself. It was probably for the best that he didn't finish the whole thing.

He tried focusing on the poetry book in his friend's other hand. Why was he here, and why did he bring that with him? Phenex sat down beside Stolas as began to flip through the pages, he could feel his heart start to race again.

"What're you doing..." he mumbled, slurring the words with his tongue feeling heavy and awkward. Eventually Phenex landed on the most recent entry. Handing the book over, he examined Stolas as he waited for him to take it.

Stolas' hand trembled slightly as he reached out to take the book. His vision was still a bit blurry, and his chest felt like it was going to burst from how fast and hard his heart was beating. Even still, he was perfectly capable of reading.

Glancing up at Phenex for a brief moment. His friend's expression was blank for the most part, giving away nothing.

Stolas looked back down at the book. It was difficult to focus in his incredibly tipsy state, but the text came into his vision clearly enough that he could make it out. As he began to read, Phenex read aloud from memory. Even after the events of the night, his voice was as calming to Stolas as ever.

"Under the crystal chandelier's glow, newly-weds danced, the crowd enthralled by the show. In the midst of the revelry gleam, I seek my companion, his heart tearing at the seam.

Fearing his plight, I move with grace, cross the bustling floor, to the balcony's door. There I find my friend, alone and in need of comforts aid as he leaned on the balustrade.

"A bit of fresh air is all I needed"

However, I pleaded, until Finally, he conceded

"I yearn for your touch, your presence divine, like a fires warm clutch"

In the dim glow of the moon's embrace, whispers of love do softly race. What was once simple, now a complex maze, as boundaries blur and identities haze. For years, a friendship facade held sway, until the veil was lifted, this fateful day.

With a gentle kiss, he bid me farewell, this newfound emotion, he did little to quell. Leaving quickly, out of fear and dread, gone too soon to see how my face turned red.

My close friend, I now find, has ignited a spark within my restless mind. My pen flows freely as my heart takes flight, this revelation, an enlightening sight.

A male, my first friend, my soul it does now leap, for it knows no boundary, no gender to keep. As I confess on page, my thoughts unwind, I think to myself "Oh how could I have been so blind!" My spirit cries out, with fervor so deep, and desires I never thought my soul would keep.

Now as I sit here by your side, dewy-eyed with a perfect view. I want you to know, I love you too."

Tears brimmed in the corners of his eyes, threatening to spill over.

His heart ached, the words from the poem ringing in his mind. The tears silently falling down his cheek now. He clutched the book with shaking hands, staring down at the page as the tears leaked from his eyes and onto the paper, staining it. His head was spinning both from the alcohol and the emotional rollercoaster he was being put on.

He managed a glance at Phenex, and his stomach twisted as he saw the now more loving look on his best friend's face. He tried to speak, but the words were caught in his throat. His body felt light and heavy at the same time, like he was floating. The space around them was spinning softly, and the only thing anchoring him was Phenex.

Stolas was then grabbed by his friend and pulled into a close embrace. "It's okay, you don't have to say anything" Phenex whispered as he ran a comforting hand across his back.

Stolas couldn't hold back his emotions anymore, the tears now falling freely, streaming down his face and staining his feathers. He buried his head in the crook of Phenex's neck, taking in his scent and allowing himself to be held.

"This is the last thing I ever expected to come out of tonight, and I am still trying to process it all... I am very confused and am not certain if I fully know myself anymore. But the one thing I know for certain right now, is that I love you!"

Stolas took a shuddering breath, trying to calm down the emotions that still raged inside him. He pulled away slightly so that his beak was right beside Phenex's ear. "I... l-love you, too" he said, his voice shaking. "I have for... a long, long time... I just didn't know how to say it and I was so worried you would hate me, I was so scared you-"

"I'm here now, that's all that matters" Phenex interjected before Stolas could continue the rant.

Stolas nodded slightly, burying his head back into the crook of Phenex's neck.

His breathing slowly began to even out, the tears stopping as he allowed himself to be held and comforted by his friend.

The alcohol in his system made him feel dizzy and light, like he was floating. He cuddled closer to Phenex, taking in the warmth and comfort from his friend. He could feel the other demon's heartbeat against his own, steady and strong, and found it was starting to calm him completely.

His eyes began to get heavier, the exhaustion of the day's events starting to catch up to him. He wanted to stay here, in this embrace forever. He managed to speak, his voice a soft murmur against Phenex's chest. "Can we just stay like this? Just a little longer, please..."

"As you wish"

Stolas closed his eyes, his body relaxing completely as he snuggled against Phenex. The other demon's arms encircled him completely, holding him close and making him feel safe. He felt himself starting to doze off, the drowsiness and feeling of safety making him completely relaxed. The sound of his friend's heartbeat soothed him, as he slowly drifted off into sleep.

Just before he fully fell asleep, he leaned his head up and placed a soft, sleepy kiss on Phenex's cheek, whispering "I love you" quietly before the darkness of sleep overtook him completely.

The last thing he processed before slipping into the realm of dreams was a gentle kiss on his forehead and fingers gently stroking the feather of his crown. "Good night, sweet prince"

For once in a long time, he didn't dream of his mother, nor of his fears, or his upcoming wedding. He dreamed of a life with Phenex, a life beyond just being friends. That night, he slept better than he had in years, held in the arms of the one he loved most in the world.
