Beacon Podcast: Episode 1, Segment 1 - Introduction
[Scene Description]
The camera fades in to reveal Yang Branwen lounging comfortably on a bright yellow bean bag chair. The background is cozy but modern, decorated with Beacon Academy memorabilia—team banners, a small replica of Crescent Rose on the wall, and a warm lighting setup. A bold neon sign reads: "The Beacon Podcast." A microphone arm is positioned in front of Yang as she casually greets the viewers.
Yang:
"Hey, hey, hey! Welcome, everyone, to the very first episode of The Beacon Podcast! I'm your host, Yang Branwen—Huntress extraordinaire, lover of puns, and the most radiant personality in all of Remnant!"
Yang gives a playful wink to the camera before gesturing to the mic.
"This podcast is all about hanging out, sharing stories, and maybe even spilling some secrets about life as a Huntress. So, whether you're here to laugh, cry, or just listen to me ramble—you're in the right place."
Yang leans forward with an excited grin.
"For my first episode, I thought—who better to kick things off than someone who knows me best? Someone who's always by my side, my partner in crime, and the sweetest little cookie-loving scythe-wielder I know… My little sister, Ruby Rose!"
The camera pans to Ruby Rose, sitting across from Yang on another bean bag chair, waving shyly to the camera.
Ruby:
"Hi, everyone! Uh, wow… This is so cool! Thanks for having me, Yang!"
Yang:
"Of course! I mean, who else could I bring on for Episode One? Plus, it's good PR for you."
Ruby:
Laughs nervously. "Wait, I need PR?"
Yang:
Smirking. "I mean… people gotta know who you really are! Which brings me to my next segment—'Meet the Guest!'"
"So, for those of you who don't know, Ruby Rose here is not just my sister. She's also one of the youngest Huntresses in Remnant, a total weapon geek, and the biggest dork you'll ever meet."
Ruby grins sheepishly and adjusts her hood.
"Ruby's the kind of person who will trip over her own feet, laugh it off, and then save your life two seconds later. She's got this boundless optimism that honestly drives me crazy sometimes—but it's also her greatest strength."
Yang's tone softens slightly, her admiration shining through.
"Ruby's ultimate goal? It's simple. She wants to make the world a better place. And not just in that 'fight bad guys' way. She genuinely believes in people—their potential, their goodness. It's why she became a Huntress in the first place."
Ruby:
Blushing and waving her hands. "Aww, stop! You're gonna make me cry before we've even started!"
Segment 2: Growing Up
"So, Rubes, let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?" Yang grinned, adjusting her microphone.
"Oh boy, here we go…" Ruby laughed nervously, bracing herself.
"Relax, no embarrassing stuff—yet. I want to talk about what it was like growing up with Dad, y'know? Team 'Single Dad and Two Daughters.'" Yang leaned forward, her tone playful.
"Honestly? Pretty awesome," Ruby said, smiling warmly. "I mean, Dad was kind of a goofball, but he always made sure we had what we needed—like training lessons, pancakes, and bad dad jokes."
"Ugh, the dad jokes. I think I'm still recovering from some of those…" Yang groaned, rolling her eyes.
"Like the time he said, 'Why did the scythe cross the road? To cut to the other side!'" Ruby burst out laughing.
"Ruby, nooo! We're not bringing that one back," Yang said, throwing up her hands in mock despair.
"But it's a classic!" Ruby giggled, clearly enjoying herself.
"Anyway, Dad was great. He taught us a lot—how to fight, how to take care of ourselves—but also how to stick together, no matter what. He really stepped up after Mom… well, you know." Yang's voice softened just slightly, though she quickly moved past the moment.
"Yeah, he did," Ruby agreed, nodding. "I think he was really proud of us, even if he didn't always say it out loud. And let's not forget the training montages he put us through."
"Oh, you mean the ones where he made us spar, and you'd trip over Crescent Rose every five minutes?" Yang teased, smirking.
"Hey! I was still figuring it out!" Ruby protested, though she couldn't help laughing.
"Sure, sure. But to be fair, you got better really fast," Yang admitted. "I mean, let's talk about that. What made you want to become a Huntress in the first place?"
"Well… weapons," Ruby said matter-of-factly, grinning. "I mean, who doesn't want to carry an awesome weapon around and look cool doing it?"
"Riiight," Yang said, rolling her eyes. "You just wanted an excuse to design Crescent Rose."
"Okay, yes, but also, I wanted to help people. Like, really help people, y'know? I wanted to be the kind of person Mom was—someone who could make a difference." Ruby looked thoughtful for a moment. "And maybe I wanted to live up to some big sister vibes too."
"Aww, Rubes, that's sweet. You wanna be like me," Yang teased.
Ruby gave her a playful glare. "I said 'Mom,' not 'Yang.'"
"Uh-huh. Keep telling yourself that," Yang shot back with a grin. "For me, it was more about adventure. I mean, sure, helping people is great, but who wouldn't want to fight monsters and look awesome while doing it?"
"Classic Yang," Ruby said, shaking her head fondly.
"Hey, you need a little flair in this line of work! And let's be real—you and me, we make a pretty awesome team."
Ruby smiled. "Yeah, we really do."
Yang clapped her hands together. "All right, folks, that's enough reminiscing for now. Let's move on to the next segment—Ruby's Weapon Obsession. Stay tuned!"
The screen faded out again as upbeat music played.
Segment 3: Weapon Talk
Yang leaned forward with a grin. "Okay, Rubes, let's talk about something we're both passionate about—our weapons. I mean, Crescent Rose and Ember Celica? Pretty iconic, right?"
Ruby perked up instantly, practically bouncing in her seat. "Yes! Weapons are, like, the perfect blend of art and engineering. Crescent Rose is my pride and joy! A scythe that's also a sniper rifle? What's not to love?"
"Yeah, you've got a point," Yang said with a chuckle. "But let's backtrack. What was your inspiration for making Crescent Rose in the first place?"
"Oh, that's easy," Ruby said, her voice full of excitement. "I've always loved the elegance of scythes—how they're so versatile and just look cool in motion. But I also wanted something long-range, you know, to keep the Grimm at a distance. So I thought, 'Why not combine the two?' And that's how Crescent Rose came to life!"
Yang nodded, impressed. "You really went all out with that one. I remember Dad looking at your blueprint and saying, 'Are you sure this isn't a small battleship?'"
Ruby laughed. "Hey, he just didn't understand the vision!"
Yang smirked. "Well, for me, the inspiration for Ember Celica was simple. I wanted something that could pack a punch—literally. Gauntlets that double as shotguns? Perfect for close combat and crowd control. Plus, they're stylish, just like me."
"Totally on-brand," Ruby said, nodding. "But didn't you… uh… have a bit of trouble when you first tested them?"
Yang groaned, rubbing the back of her neck. "Ugh, don't remind me. Do you remember that video we took? The one where I almost launched myself into a tree?"
Ruby smirked, pulling out her Scroll. "Oh, you mean this video?"
Yang's eyes widened in horror as Ruby played the clip. On the small screen, a 13-year-old Yang was standing in a wide field, wearing oversized goggles and her Ember Celica prototypes. Young Yang grinned at the camera and shouted, "Let's test the recoil!" She fired a blast, only to rocket backward with a loud boom, flailing wildly before crashing into a bush.
"Ruby, no!" Yang groaned, burying her face in her hands. "Why do you still have that?"
Ruby was in stitches, clutching her Scroll. "How could I delete this? It's comedy gold! You looked so confident, and then—wham—into the bushes!"
Yang peeked through her fingers. "I told you to delete that years ago!"
"Never," Ruby said with a mischievous grin. "It's a piece of history!"
Yang rolled her eyes but couldn't help laughing. "Fine, fine. But let's not forget your first fail with Crescent Rose."
Ruby froze, her laughter dying down. "Uh… can we not bring that up?"
"Oh, we're definitely bringing it up," Yang said, her grin widening. "You wanted to show off, so you flipped it into scythe mode for the first time, tried to twirl it, and it got stuck in a tree! The thing was so heavy you couldn't even pull it out!"
Ruby groaned, covering her face. "I had to get Dad to help me—and he wouldn't stop laughing!"
Yang was nearly in tears from laughing at the memory. "He said, 'Ruby, maybe your first move as a Huntress shouldn't involve deforestation.'"
Ruby shook her head, trying to look serious but failing. "Okay, okay, we've both had some… rough starts. But at least we've mastered our weapons now!"
Yang nodded, wiping away a tear. "True. And hey, those fails make for some great stories. Maybe we should post the videos online and give people a good laugh."
Ruby gasped. "Yang, no! You wouldn't!"
Yang smirked. "Oh, I would. Stay tuned, folks—you might just see 'Yang Xiao Long's Rocket Fist Fail' on your Scroll feeds soon."
Ruby groaned dramatically, and Yang chuckled. "Anyway, let's move on before Ruby starts begging me to delete that video."
Segment 4: First Day at Beacon
Yang leaned back in her chair, a grin spreading across her face. "So, Rubes, let's talk about the beginning. Our first day at Beacon. What do you remember most?"
Ruby's eyes widened with excitement. "Oh, everything! The airship ride, stepping off and seeing Beacon for the first time… it was incredible. It felt like I was walking into this whole new world."
"Yeah, I remember that too," Yang said. "Beacon was… overwhelming at first. So many people, so much happening all at once. But then you—of course—made an entrance by running into Weiss Schnee and spilling Dust all over the place."
Ruby groaned. "Don't remind me! She was so mad. She kept calling me a dolt and waving her hands like I'd just ruined her whole life."
Yang burst out laughing. "Honestly, I thought she was going to deck you right there. But hey, look at you two now. Best friends."
Ruby smiled. "Yeah, but at the time, I thought she hated me forever. I didn't exactly make the best first impression."
"Well, at least Blake didn't hate you when you met her," Yang teased. "She just… ignored you entirely."
Ruby nodded, her smile widening. "Right! She was sitting there, reading her book like nothing around her mattered. I remember thinking, 'Wow, she's mysterious… and kind of intimidating.'"
"She probably thought you were exhausting," Yang joked. "I mean, you're a bit of a chatterbox, and Blake? Well, she wasn't exactly chatty back then."
Ruby laughed. "True, but I guess I must've grown on her, because here we are."
"Yeah, Blake's a softie underneath all that mystery," Yang said. "But let's not forget Initiation Day. That was when everything started to click, right?"
Ruby's eyes lit up. "Oh, Initiation Day was insane! I mean, first, they launched us into the forest on those giant pads. I thought I was going to lose my lunch."
Yang snorted. "You? I thought I was going to break my legs when I landed! Seriously, who came up with that launch system? 'Here's a death-defying start to your first big day. Good luck!'"
Ruby laughed. "It was awesome, though! Flying through the air like that—it was like something out of a dream. Well, until the landing part."
"Yeah, the landing was… rough," Yang admitted. "But then we had to find our partners in the middle of that giant forest. Talk about throwing us in the deep end."
Ruby nodded. "It was kind of scary at first, but then I found Weiss—"
"Who probably made it scarier," Yang interrupted, smirking.
"Okay, yes," Ruby admitted, laughing. "She wasn't exactly thrilled to see me. But we managed to figure it out, and then we found Blake."
"And I found you guys after dealing with that huge Ursa," Yang added. "I still can't believe how big that thing was."
"And don't forget the Deathstalker!" Ruby said, her eyes wide. "That thing was terrifying! I thought it was going to skewer us all."
Yang grinned. "But we handled it. I mean, you did that crazy scythe maneuver to slow it down, and I punched it in the face. Pretty epic teamwork for a bunch of people who'd just met."
Ruby smiled. "And then there was the Nevermore. That thing was massive. When it flew down, I remember thinking, 'Oh no, this is it. We're toast.'"
Yang chuckled. "But we weren't! We pulled off some seriously crazy moves that day. Blake's gamble with her ribbon, Weiss's precision, and you? You rode that thing's neck like it was some kind of amusement park ride!"
Ruby laughed. "Hey, it worked, didn't it? We brought it down and survived to tell the tale."
"Barely," Yang added, shaking her head. "And then came the team selection. That was… a moment."
Ruby sighed, her smile softening. "Yeah. I still don't know why Professor Ozpin chose me to be the leader. I mean, Weiss seemed like the obvious choice. She was so confident and put-together. Me? I felt like a kid who barely knew what she was doing."
Yang gave her a reassuring look. "Maybe, but Ozpin saw something in you, Ruby. And he was right. You've got a natural talent for bringing people together. That's what makes you such a great leader."
Ruby looked thoughtful. "I guess. At the time, I was just trying not to mess up too much. But hearing him say, 'Team RWBY, led by Ruby Rose'… it was kind of surreal."
"Hey, you earned it," Yang said, her tone warm. "And you've been leading us ever since. Sure, it hasn't always been perfect, but who cares? We've come a long way since that first day."
Ruby smiled. "Yeah, we really have. From awkward introductions and crazy Grimm fights to being a team that feels like family. I wouldn't trade it for anything."
"Same here," Yang said. "Team RWBY for life."
The two sisters exchanged a look of mutual pride and affection before Ruby chuckled. "Okay, I think we've been sappy enough for one day. Let's move on before Weiss accuses us of being sentimental."
Yang laughed. "Good call. She'd probably roll her eyes so hard they'd fall out of her head."
Ruby giggled. "Classic Weiss."
Yang smiled. "Classic Team RWBY."
Segment 5: Beacon Hijinks
Ruby leaned forward, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "Yang, let's talk about the food fight."
Yang immediately burst out laughing. "Oh, you mean the food fight? The one that's probably gone down in Beacon history?"
Ruby nodded eagerly. "Yes! It was absolutely insane. I still can't believe how it started."
Yang smirked, crossing her arms. "Oh, it started because Nora thought it would be funny to throw a pie at Weiss. She had perfect aim, too—right in Weiss's face!"
Ruby was laughing so hard she had to catch her breath. "And Weiss just froze for a second, like she couldn't believe what just happened. Then, instead of yelling or freaking out, she picked up an entire tray of spaghetti and launched it at Nora!"
Yang shook her head, grinning. "And that's when all hell broke loose. Nora dodged, the spaghetti hit Jaune instead, and then he retaliated with a bowl of mashed potatoes—but it missed and hit Blake right in the face!"
Ruby clutched her stomach, tears forming in her eyes. "Blake looked so done with everything. She stood there for a second, like, 'Is this my life now?' And then she just snapped. She grabbed a bread roll and flung it so hard at Jaune, it knocked him over!"
Yang laughed loudly. "Jaune went down like a sack of potatoes—no pun intended. Meanwhile, Ren tried to calm things down, but as soon as he stood up, Nora hit him with a pancake!"
Ruby wiped at her eyes, barely able to speak. "And then you got involved. You stood up on one of the tables and yelled, 'Let's make this interesting!' before throwing a turkey leg at Weiss!"
Yang grinned proudly. "Of course I did. Someone had to take charge of the chaos. And hey, Weiss deserved it after trying to stay all dignified and classy in the middle of a food war."
Ruby laughed harder. "Dignified? She tried to dodge but ended up tripping on the spaghetti and falling flat on her back!"
Yang snorted. "And then Blake—oh man, Blake was amazing. She was leaping between tables, dodging everything, and using her semblance to send pies flying everywhere. It was like watching a ninja in action!"
Ruby nodded quickly. "Yeah, and she totally nailed me with a pudding cup. I thought I was safe hiding behind a tray, but nope—she got me right in the face!"
Yang raised her hands dramatically. "And then, the pièce de résistance: Weiss grabbed an entire serving cart, loaded it up with food, and charged at Nora. She looked like a knight going into battle!"
Ruby was doubled over with laughter. "And Nora just stood there, like, 'Bring it on!' She grabbed a watermelon and used it like a shield!"
Yang grinned. "It was a clash of titans. And then I got this great idea—I grabbed two baguettes and started using them like nunchaku!"
Ruby clapped her hands. "Oh my gosh, yes! You were just spinning them around like crazy and deflecting everything. It was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen."
"And then you!" Yang said, pointing at Ruby. "You somehow managed to rig up Crescent Rose to launch cupcakes at everyone. Where did you even get the cupcakes?"
Ruby shrugged, still giggling. "I have my ways. But it worked, didn't it? I hit Jaune and Ren with one shot!"
Yang shook her head, laughing. "And then came the grand finale—Goodwitch."
Ruby's laughter slowed as she remembered. "Oh no… yeah, she walked in, and everything just stopped. Everyone froze like we'd been caught by the principal during detention."
Yang nodded. "She didn't even say a word. She just flicked her riding crop, and the entire cafeteria reset itself. The food, the trays, even the chairs—all back in place like nothing ever happened."
Ruby groaned, covering her face. "And then she gave us that look. You know the one. Like she was deciding whether to expel us or just make us clean the entire school."
Yang smirked. "I honestly think she was impressed. I mean, we turned a food fight into an all-out war. That takes skill."
Ruby laughed again. "Totally worth it, though. Even Weiss admitted later it was kind of fun—once she got all the spaghetti out of her hair."
Yang grinned. "Beacon really was the best, huh? Where else could we turn the cafeteria into a battlefield and somehow get away with it?"
Ruby nodded, still smiling. "Yeah, it was chaos, but it was our chaos. Those are the moments I'll never forget."
The sisters shared a warm laugh, reliving every hilarious, messy, and unforgettable detail of their time at Beacon.
Segment 6: The Beacon Dance
Ruby leaned back in her seat, a soft, nostalgic smile spreading across her face. "You know, Yang, one of my favorite memories of Beacon has to be the dance."
Yang smirked. "Oh, the dance. That was a night, all right. I mean, it was mostly amazing, except for one little thing."
Ruby raised an eyebrow. "What thing?"
Yang rolled her eyes dramatically. "Oh, I don't know. Maybe the fact that Blake brought Sun as her date."
Ruby snorted. "Oh my gosh, Yang, are you still jealous about that?"
"I'm not jealous," Yang said, crossing her arms and pouting slightly. "I just think she could've, you know, told me ahead of time. Instead, she shows up with Sun, all smiles and looking fantastic, while I'm stuck on punch duty."
Ruby grinned. "You could've asked her yourself, you know."
Yang groaned. "Don't remind me. Anyway, let's talk about the important stuff—the outfits. What did you think of my dress?"
Ruby tilted her head, smiling. "It was really pretty! You had that gorgeous yellow gown with the ruffled layers, and it sparkled just the right amount—not too flashy, but definitely 'Yang.'"
Yang grinned. "Exactly. Stylish, bold, and totally me. And you? You looked adorable in your black and red dress. It was simple but really cute, especially with the little rose patterns on the hem."
Ruby blushed. "Thanks! I didn't want anything too fancy, but I still wanted to look nice. It wasn't as glamorous as Weiss's dress, though."
Yang let out a low whistle. "Oh, yeah. Weiss went all-out, of course. That icy blue gown with the silver accents? She looked like an actual princess. And you know she picked it out months in advance."
Ruby nodded. "It was perfect for her, though. She was practically glowing. And then there was Blake…"
Yang sighed. "Ugh, Blake. She had that sleek black dress with the subtle gold trim—it was so simple, but she made it look amazing. And don't even get me started on how good she and Sun looked together on the dance floor."
Ruby giggled. "You were totally watching them the whole time."
"I was not!" Yang said quickly, then paused. "Okay, maybe a little. But what about you? You spent most of the night hanging out with Penny."
Ruby's smile widened. "Yeah, Penny was so excited to be there. She kept spinning around in that orange and green dress—it was so Penny. She looked like she was having the time of her life."
"She really did," Yang said, smiling warmly. "Penny always brought such a fun energy to everything. She wasn't the best dancer, but she definitely gave it her all."
Ruby laughed. "That's what made it great, though. She didn't care about being perfect—she just wanted to have fun. Kind of like Jaune… though for a very different reason."
Yang burst out laughing. "Oh, Jaune. I still can't believe he showed up wearing a dress."
Ruby nodded, grinning. "It was that frilly pink one with the giant bow in the back. He said it was his way of cheering Pyrrha up after everything she'd been through."
"And you know what?" Yang said, still chuckling. "It worked. Pyrrha couldn't stop laughing when she saw him. It was the happiest I'd seen her in weeks."
Ruby smiled softly. "Yeah, it was really sweet of him. And then Team JNPR's dance? That was just the best."
Yang nodded. "Oh, absolutely. They completely stole the show. I mean, they weren't exactly graceful, but they were so over-the-top and enthusiastic that nobody cared."
"Ren doing that ridiculous spin move and Nora pretending to conduct them like a symphony?" Ruby said, giggling. "It was hilarious. And then Jaune picked up Pyrrha and tried to twirl her, but they both ended up falling over!"
Yang laughed loudly. "Classic Jaune. But honestly, their whole routine was so much fun. It really brought everyone together."
Ruby nodded. "Yeah, even Weiss cracked a smile. It was nice to see everyone just… happy for a night."
Yang sighed contentedly. "Yeah, it really was. Even with the Sun-and-Blake thing, I wouldn't trade that night for anything."
Ruby grinned. "And hey, you did eventually dance. I saw you out there with Nora at one point, both of you trying to outdo each other with the most ridiculous moves."
Yang laughed. "What can I say? I can't resist a dance-off challenge."
Ruby leaned back, her smile softening. "Beacon had so many great moments, but the dance? That's definitely one of my favorites. Everyone looked amazing, we all had fun, and for one night, everything just felt… perfect."
Yang nodded, her expression warm. "Yeah. It really did."
The two sisters shared a quiet moment of nostalgia, their smiles speaking volumes as they thought back to the unforgettable night at Beacon.
Segment 7: Wrapping Up
Yang glanced at the clock, leaning back in her chair with a satisfied smile. "Well, I think that's about all the time we've got for this episode of The Beacon Podcast. But before we wrap things up, Rubes, is there anything you'd like to say to all the listeners and watchers out there?"
Ruby blinked, caught off guard for a moment, but then her expression softened into something thoughtful. "Oh… well, I guess I'd just like to say… follow your dreams. Even if they seem impossible or people tell you they're silly, go for them. You never know where they'll take you. I mean, if I hadn't chased my dream of becoming a Huntress, I wouldn't have met all of you, wouldn't have made the best friends and family I could ever ask for."
She paused, her smile brightening. "And don't be afraid of making mistakes along the way. We all trip up sometimes—literally, if you're me—but that's how we learn. So, keep moving forward, and don't forget to enjoy the journey. You never know how amazing it might turn out."
Yang smiled warmly, resting her chin on her hand. "Aww, that was sweet, sis. I'm sure everyone listening is feeling inspired now. But, uh, speaking of mistakes…"
Ruby's eyes narrowed suspiciously. "What are you up to?"
Yang's grin turned mischievous. "Oh, nothing. Just thinking that I definitely need to upload those test videos of ours. You know, the ones with me flying into a bush and you getting Crescent Rose stuck in a tree."
Ruby immediately shot up from her chair, pointing at her sister. "Yang Xiao Long, don't you dare!"
Yang leaned back, her laughter filling the room. "Oh, I dare! It's going to be comedy gold, and the fans will love it."
As Yang leaned forward to hit a button on her scroll, Ruby's voice echoed in the distance. "I DARE YOU!!!"
The screen cut to the podcast logo, accompanied by Yang's uncontrollable laughter and Ruby's indignant shouts, perfectly capturing the chaos that was The Beacon Podcast.
