Lucius Fox met Bruce Wayne in a main conference room which was a corner room with a great view of the city. From here Gotham looked perfect, beautiful and mesmerizing but Bruce knew it was just a view. Being out there in the actual city at its darkest time showed Batman Gotham city's true face ugly and disgusting.
-How are you, Sir.
-All good Mr.Fox. You?
-Well… - Lucius walked to the long desk and picked a chair to sit. - Coffee?
-No, I am fine. So, what is it Lucius?
-You know from the outside Wayne Enterprise is the best what could happened to this city. We got multiple branches and covering almost every sphere in rebuilding this city. All and all we are good, Mr. Wayne.
-But?
-But… our other side. The side not so many know about.
-Which is good. The less the better.
-Indeed, Sir. Anyway, the research we do is getting more complicated day by day. Last week report, I hope you had time to read it.
-I did, Lucius.
-So this week's report is not better, Sir. All we have hope for is people. We rely on their good faith in this delicate matter and I have some concerns about this faith being strong enough for what is coming their way if the situation won't improve.
-I believe in people of Gotham, Lucius. We still have no idea what happened to those who were taken by the government and where they are now. And I know those whom we saved and their loved once grateful to be together as long as they can.
-I hope you are right, Sir. But I advise you to look into this week's report closely.
-I will, Lucius. Shell we proceed with our foreign colleagues?
-Right this way, Sir.
Meeting after meeting that was Mr. Wayne's reality for the last two years. Tons of requests and signing of papers and documents, busy days and in a case of Bruce Wayne, nights as well. But there was this one meeting at least once a month when billionaire and philanthropist Wayne wasn't signing anything he was just listening and watching.
His interest in Arkham Asylum was purely sociological where the famous billionaire tried to be involved in good service of helping to those who were "lost". That was at least what his explanation sounded like when Arkham Asylum communication team got the request from Wayne's secretary. Of course, he donated a lot of money to Asylum before they allowed him to talk to doctors and see some but not all patients. Bruce Wayne had long playing tactic to conquer trust of personnel and doctors. First he was very interested in people with minor and light personality disorders but the more he was involved the more hard cases he saw. It's been over a year when Bruce Wayne decided to ask a head doctor of the asylum to allow him to see some criminally insane patients.
-Mr. Wayne it's a delicate matter. You will need a permission of the sheriff for that.
-Do I? All I want is to observe I'm not planning to talk to them or ask questions.
-I know, I know. You have been very generous with your donations but there is so much I can do. You will need a sheriff's permission. Also there is a waiver to sign.
-I understand. I also understand that you want to renovate a south wing which is the oldest of all in your facility and has a lot of historic architecture which I am sure you would love to preserve, doc. How about I will sponsor that work and hire the best reconstruction firm possible to restore that wing in its full glory?
Head doctor fixed his glasses and clear his throat.
-Well, Mr.Wayne… I think we can get away with just a waiver. It's just a formality.
-Great! Send it to my secretary today!
-Would you like to look through some cases you may be interested in?
-Sure! I came prepared there is a list of people I'm very interested in!
The list Bruce Wayne gave contained names of some insanely dangerous criminals who were closed behind thick doors of asylum for many years even when the city almost got ruined.
-I see… oh well you got here some famous guys Mr.Wayne. - said doctor looking through the list with a light smile until he got to its end. - Oh. I can talk for hours about all of them and even go through over their cases with you Mr.Wayne. All of them except the last one. I am sorry Mr.Wayne but I don't know how you know about this person but I signed tons of government papers which do not allow me to even mention that this person is in my custody.
-Mmm… interesting. Well you know I have friends in the city government so I know something about this person and I hoped with your help to find out more! It's an intricate case it's almost if you have Batman himself locked up in here!
-Oh Mr.Wayne! That would be a dream but I can't… I truly really can't to help with that one.
-It's fine! We will discuss the rest of them and maybe later you will change your mind!
-I'm afraid I will not Mr.Wayne. Her case not elven in the archives it's in here in my safe. If something about this case leaks out … I will loose everything.
-No worries, I understand, doc. So, let's see our first guy!
-This way Mr.Wayne first we will visit archives to find his case. - doctor was relieved and his cheeks finally got some color in them.
Leaving doctor's office Bruce Wayne glanced over a big black safe in the corner and left.
