Satoru looked perplexed as Yuna left his apartment after pushing him back to deny him a kiss. He let out a growl at the closed door, his thoughts running wild in his head.
'Why was she mad like this? She usually is more fun. Is it because we had plans for today? But I just could get rid of Utahime...'
With the six eyes technique, Satoru's brain can process an overwhelming amount of information in just a second, so he soon made a full evaluation of the bartender's actions.
'No, this just wasn't like what I know of Yuna. Will she use this opportunity for something?'
Satoru had decided. He would follow Yuna. Turning around he faced his senpai. He knew she would get mad at him again, but she should be used to it by now.
"Utahime, I must sadly inform you that something came up and I need to go."
"You what? No, don't you dare to ignore me and your duty."
As the woman raised her voice, so did her cursed energy. Unfazed, Gojo felt somewhat compelled to explain himself to her, before she would get a heart attack, but decided that there was just not enough time for that. He couldn't keep his eyes away from Yuna or else she could slip away.
"Look, I have prepared a full report of all my students and their abilities, so there is no need for me to sit here with you. So if you excuse me."
Before the black-haired sorceress could say a word, he had disappeared.
Satoru kept a good distance between Yuna and himself so there would be no way for her to see him. Never did she take out her phone to call someone or anything else suspicious. She just went home and took a shower. He decided to do the same.
He teleported himself home, happy to see that Utahime had left. Taking a quick shower to go back to observe Yuna. She was drying her hair now, while her phone and computer were in the same place as they were before he had left.
Always from a safe distance, the sorcerer followed his prey through the busy streets of Tokyo. As she got on a train, he did the same. She ended up going to a mall. As she entered a shop searching for some clothes, Satoru began to doubt that she would do something suspicious that day. So, he decided to call her in order to let her believe he was busy with the meeting, and she would be unwatched.
As he talked with the woman he could hear in her voice the smile she had. He didn't know exactly why, but there was just something about her that made it impossible for him to resist teasing her.
As she hung up the call, Satoru could see how embarrassed Yuna came out of the cabinet and put away the clothes she was trying on. As she was going inside another store, Gojo signed.
'Was I wrong about her? Is this maybe all just a coincidence and Yuna isn't after me?'
Although being lost in his thoughts, the limitless user still had an eye on his target, but he still was distracted and so couldn't quite understand what exactly just had happened. Yuna came out of that second store with a bag in hand and had walked straight up to a low curse. That curse somehow disappeared as the bartender got in contact with it.
'What was that?'
Now more alert, Gojo watched her every move. He could see how Yuna put a hand on every curse she found, making it somehow disappear.
The man's lips curved up into an evil smile.
'Now I got you. Can't believe you made me doubt that much about my rationality.'
He decided to confront her when she would be alone again. He had a lot of questions for her because he just couldn't understand what she was doing. It didn't seem she was exorcising the curses. Their energy just disappeared. And he still couldn't feel any cursed energy from the woman. That's why he wasn't convinced she was a curse user.
Finally, Yuna made her way back to her apartment, but in her tracks, she made a detour. Satoru could feel the strong curse energy emanating from a nearby cemetery. When he saw the woman put down her bags by the entrance he could finally feel her cursed energy. Taking off his blindfold to see every single move of her, he was perplexed as the bartender manifested a pair of sai out of her cursed energy and launched herself to the special grade curse.
The black demon-like curse had no chance. In seconds it was overpowered by Yuna. But that wasn't the biggest surprise. Satoru watched as the curse began to shrink while Yuna's marks started to glow. Her cursed energy began to rise, getting to a level that was almost comparable to his own.
"What the..."
Many emotions arose in him. He felt admiration of her abilities to not only hide her cursed energy but also, as it seemed, to be able to absorb energy from the curses. From what he could see, she was a skillful fighter, and her innate ability to create objects with her cursed energy was impressive. But all that made him only mad. Mad at himself because he had let her trick him into believing she was someone innocent, forced by someone to get information out of him.
He let that frustration free as he pushed the woman against the remaining wall of the mausoleum. He relished with her scared expression as she recognized him, making his lips curl into a smile. In order to be no doubt about his intentions, he began to choke her while making his demand.
"Time to tell me who you really are."
Her hands soon began to try to pull his hand away from her neck, as she had difficulty breathing. He eventually let her go, watching as she caught her breath before answering him in a hoarse voice.
"You know who I am."
"Sure. You're just a friendly bartender with a crazy hobby to absorb cursed energy from curses. Am I missing something?"
"You don't understand. That's not who I am. We haven't just met this year in Tokyo. My real name is (L/N) (Y/N). The first time we met was over 8 years ago in (country)."
Her name didn't say much to him, only in connection with the country she told made him remember something.
As (Y/N) watched Satoru's expression change from crazy madness to surprise and recognition, her own memories shifted to the time she had first met him.
***Eight years ago***
In the school for jujutsu sorcery of (country), the students of the second high school year were informed about their mission by an assistant.
"We have received information about a first-grade curse that should be lurking around town. Your mission will be only searching for it. In any case, you are to make contact with it. Just follow it and inform me about its location. A foreign sorcerer should have arrived already from Japan to handle it."
(Y/N) and Paul were the only two second years right now. This country had only a handful of sorcerers, mostly only third-grade ones, so they would often rely on help from others, and consequently, the students were often called to do support missions like this.
(Y/N) was nervous. She wasn't the best student, on the contrary, her cursed energy was very low and although she tried to evolve her abilities, it was hard for her. But no one expected much from her anyway. Her parents were both sorcerers, but low-ranked ones. They were the firsts of their respective families to possess enough cursed energy to be able to see curses. The money they made was barely enough to be considered lower middle class. (Y/N) had consequently more cursed energy than her parents, but it was still low. Her efforts to learn and control it helped, but in the end the more cursed energy someone would have, the stronger he would be in jujutsu.
They reached their destiny and (Y/N) and Paul began to search for the curse. After a half-hour of searching without any results, Paul suggests they split up. (Y/N) wasn't especially eager to do that, but she could see why it would be the best. They could cover more ground doing so.
"Ok, but be careful."
After almost two more hours, (Y/N) could feel a presence nearby. She took out her phone and sent her location to the assistant before calling him.
"Have you received my location? I can feel a strong presence here but I haven't made eye contact yet."
From her phone came the assistant's voice. "You should be able to distinguish the presence between a high-grade curse and a lesser one, so are you sure it's from a first-grade curse?"
A bit annoyed she responded, "I can't be a hundred percent sure because I have never encountered a first-grade curse, but I'm sure it's the highest cursed energy I ever felt before, so it can only be the curse we are searching for, right?"
The assistant wasn't expecting such an answer from (Y/N). She was mostly shy and respected her superiors, never talking back. "I think you're right. I will contact the Japanese sorcerer right away. In fact, he should be here for some time by now, only if his flight was delayed."
(Y/N) hanged up and continued to look around. She looked at the people around her, minding their own business. Sometimes she would think about what it would be like to have a normal life. She could go to a normal school, have a normal job. In the end, it had been her decision to go to the jujutsu sorcery school. Since she possesses the ability to see curses, could she really ignore them and go on with her life as if they didn't exist? She didn't think so. And then the thought of exorcising these horrible creatures was kind of satisfying.
Lost in her thoughts, she failed to keep her awareness of her surroundings, and only when the curse manifested right behind her did she sense it. She could avoid the first attack but fell, her butt hitting hard on the ground. The curse's presence was so overwhelming that she froze. Unable to get up, she forced herself to crawl backward still on the ground. The curse looked horrendous. It had fangs lurking out of his mouth and curved claws almost as long as (Y/N)'s hands. As it was about to strike her with those big claws, she couldn't react. 'That's it. That's how I die.'
No, this wasn't yet the time for the young student to die. She was rescued by a tall, young man with white messy hair. He stopped the curse's attack and gave it a punch, making it fly quite a distance away.
"What are you doing on the ground? Don't say that this little curse scared you?" He said in a mocking voice.
The boy stretched a hand out to help her up but she was too astonished to grab it, so he waved with it in front of her to get her attention.
"Hey, are you there? I thought you fell on your butt and not on your head."
His mockery took her out of her daze. She got up while ignoring his hand, trying to somehow look composed.
"That was just one of my moves to escape the curse's attack."
The young sorcerer opened up his mouth to mock the girl again, but decided there were other more important matters to attend to right now as the curse came back running.
"We need to lure it to a less crowded place or else I will get in trouble again... Do you know of a place nearby, away from prying eyes?" He asked her, making the wheels in her head turn.
"There is an old church with a big garden, most people avoid it because it looks creepy."
"Great, I was beginning to worry your head might be damaged, but that is a good idea."
She felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment and furry and hoped he would believe it was because they were running.
Before they reached the church his phone rang. He took it out of his pocket. 'Is he really going to answer his phone in such a situation?'
"Oh, look, it's your assistant. I wonder what more he wants. Hello, Gojo on the phone."
'So his name is Gojo.' Distracted, (Y/N) almost missed the turn to the church, forcing Gojo to make a hard turn.
"I'm kind of busy right now. The student should keep an eye on it and if it attacks, call me right away."
(Y/N) was so occupied running that she didn't catch his conversation.
"There is the church." She pointed.
As they reached the garden of the church, the curse was right behind them. Gojo attacked it and (Y/N) was amazed by his strength and agility. 'I wished I could fight like that.' After some more hits, he stopped though.
"Have you ever faced a first-grade curse before?"
She shook her head 'no'.
He smiled before announcing: "Ok, this is your chance then. Let's see what you can do."
She looked dumbfounded at him. 'Is he talking seriously?' She didn't have much time to think because the curse was charging again and Gojo had put his hands in his pocket, clearly with no intention to continue fighting.
'Fuck, fuck, fuck. What shall I do?'
