Kyla opened the mailbox and took out the mail. For the first time ever there was a folded note with her name on it. She had been living with Roman for nearly a year and no mail had ever arrived to her. She was beginning to suspect he hadn't even listed her on the address. This was different though. This was someone personally putting a note with her name on it in the mailbox. She had a bad feeling inside that only got heightened when she unfolded the note and read the message on it.
"What do you know about your boyfriend's business?"
She knew almost nothing. All she knew was that he ran a club that required some sort of membership to get in, and that women weren't welcome which was why she had never been there to see it. She had asked but he had shot down that idea right away and told her to never ask about it again. Like the good, obedient girlfriend she had grown to be, she had accepted that. She had accepted a lot of things over time that she never would have accepted before.
"Shit," she mumbled.
She put the note in her pocket, walked back inside, and placed Roman's mail on the kitchen table as always. She would love to start looking through his office and anywhere else she could think of in an attempt to find something about the club but he had cameras all over the house and would know if she tried anything.
She needed to get out of the house. She grabbed her bag with her things in it, locked up the house, and went to her car. It was Roman's car but he had bought it for her to drive. Everything was his. She was living in his world. She took out her phone and sent him a text. It wasn't until this moment that she realized how weird it was that she always had to text him when she was going out to let him know where she was going.
"Going shopping. I'm blanking out on what to make for dinner so I'm hoping for some inspiration once I get to the store."
Nothing unusual in that text. She would go to the store and buy something to make for dinner but she needed to make another stop first. Since he checked her phone and laptop, she couldn't use those. Instead she drove to the library and sat down at one of their computers.
She typed in Roman's name and tried to find anything she could about him or his business. She could find things about him but his business was one big secret. There were rumors about him online but nothing she could trust.
"Who the fuck did I get involved with?" She whispered.
She got back out in the car and drove to the store. She sat in the parking lot, wondering what to do. This relationship was anything but normal but she didn't realize it until she had moved in with him and he slowly started to change. She didn't like the man he had turned out to really be. She didn't like the position she was in but leaving a man who kept watching her like a hawk wasn't easy.
"I need to know," she mumbled.
Before she could second guess what she was about to do, she pulled out of the parking lot and drove towards Roman's club. She knew where it was but she had never been there. Today was the day she would figure out what on earth was going on inside that building.
