Everything's dark again.

Another of those dreams…

I groan.

I'm starting to get sick of this.

I see my parents, dead on the floor.

I wake up.

I sigh.

"Ugh…" I've had this same bad dream for what feels like forever. It's driving me crazy.

I call my friend Tyler, as I often do in the morning. He picks up after a few rings.

"Hey, Xavier, what's up?"

"Not much. Same old, same old."

"Did you have that dream again?"

"Yup. I don't know what the heck's up with it. Want to play a game or something? I gotta take my mind off this somehow."

"Can't, I'm playing this other game right now. Maybe in an hour or so?"

"Sure thing. What game?"

"Doki Doki Literature Club."

"Havent heard of it. But with a title like that..." I squint at him through the phone.

"No, no! It's not what you think it is."

After a quick web search and glance at the game's cover art, my suspicions are seemingly confirmed. "I didn't know you were into dating sims, Tyler."

"It's not actually a dating sim! It's really a-"

"Don't deny it! We share Steam libraries, remember?"

"Whatever."

"See you in an hour then. Enjoy your-"

Suddenly, it sounds as if Tyler jumped in his seat based on residual background noise. "Shit!"

"What?"

"Game just jumpscared me, is all"

"Really? If there something you're not telling me about this game?"

"GAH!" Once he regains his composure, he speaks to me with a joking tone of irritation. "Maybe you'd know if you'd let me tell you about it! Jeez!"

"Well, see ya. Enjoy your dating sim."

"You should play this shit sometime, you know. It's free!"

"Nah, I think I'm good… I don't feel like it's my thing."

"Please? It actually does seem like something you'd enjoy."

"I'll check it out, how about that?"

"Coolio."

I press the end call button on my phone screen.
