1. A peaceful evening
It had been a long day, but although the students were exhausted after a long series of classes and practices, aware that the next day would be Saturday, they had decided to stay up late.
Bobby, Rouge, Kitty, Pietro and his sister Wanda had taken a seat in the latter's room, since she had just arrived and they intended to welcome her.
From the other rooms came, muffled by the walls, the sounds of conversations of other students still awake, all in their pajamas, all relaxed and ready for sleep, but still with just enough energy to share a moment together.
"You'll be fine here, little sister," Peter reassured her, sitting on his bed.
"Yes, for once I agree with him," Bobby teased him, who had relaxed in the armchair. "We look weird, but we'll make you feel at home."
"If you're as weird as my brother, that's fine," said Wanda, after laughing, "But you certainly won't be any weirder than me!"
Bobby looked at Rouge and Kitty, seated on two large pillows laid on the carpet, both amazed at that statement.
"You think you're weirder than us?" asked Rouge defiantly 'I absorb other people's powers, Kitty goes through walls,' he continued, pointing at her "Bobby can create ice and ..."
"I know, I know," replied Wanda 'Pietro told me about you and I know there are mutants with very strange powers, but what I do ... ' she continued, placing a pause for effect " ... what I do no one can do!"
Everyone present, except Peter, stared at her open-mouthed in amazement.
"So ..." began Bobby, intrigued, "What can you do?"
Wanda laughed, just to heighten the anticipation.
"I can manipulate reality.
The three boys looked at each other, unable to understand what she meant, and that was evident from their gazes.
"What do you mean?" asked Kitty, "It sounds very vague to me as a description."
"It is indeed vague, but why can I do everything!" exclaimed Wanda, excitedly "What is your favorite color, Kitty?"
"Pink," she replied, unconvinced.
"Well, now you will have pink hair!"
Kitty's hair slowly turned from brown to pink.
"But ... but ... what ..." murmured the girl, looking at a strand of her hair that had now become her favorite color.
"Extraordinary ..." whispered Bobby, impressed, as Rouge continued to watch her wordlessly.
"See?" said Wanda, satisfied "Of course it doesn't work easily, I have to concentrate, there has to be the intention, but yes, it is extraordinary."
"How far can you go?" asked Rouge, interested.
"I don't know, actually," replied Wanda "I don't know the limits of my power. For example I can heal wounds, this has already happened to me, it could be useful during a mission."
"Heal wounds?" asked Bobby "Even the most serious ones? How?"
"Not exactly cure" she specified "I can make the body return to the state it was in before the injury happened. For example ..."
Wanda stood up, grabbed a pair of scissors and walked over to Rouge, grabbed a strand of her hair and cut it cleanly.
"HEY!" cried the girl, "How did you think of that?"
Wanda did not answer, closed her eyes, and in a few moments the lock she was holding vanished and reappeared on Rouge's head.
Peter burst out laughing.
"Did you see that?" he said, "She is stunning!"
"She really is!" agreed Kitty.
"So during a battle, if someone was mortally wounded, you could ..."
"I could restore his body to the state it was in before he was wounded, yes, as long as he's still alive, if he's dead there's nothing more I can do. I tried to resurrect a goldfish and it stayed dead."
"A minute's silence in memory of Mr. Squamerosse," said Peter, with mock solemnity.
"In battle it would certainly be useful," said Bobby 'Is there a time limit?' he then asked "What do I know, five minutes, ten, fifteen ... an hour! Meaning, if you didn't notice right away that a comrade was injured, if too much time had passed, could you still use your power?"
Wanda clutched her shoulders.
"I've never thought about it, you know?" she replied, thoughtfully "Usually, to experiment, I don't let more than a minute pass, so I wouldn't know if after a certain amount of time has passed, my powers would no longer take effect. For example, if I said I want Professor Xavier's body to return to the way it was before he became a paraplegic ..." she paused to snap her fingers " ... I don't know. It could happen as well as not. I don't know how long ago it happened and, as I said, I don't know if there are time limits."
"The Professor will help you figure it out," Rouge reassured her, "He has helped all of us."
Wanda smiled.
"I know. I trust him. I trust you."
Peter laid a hand on her shoulder.
"Do you want to see what else I can do?" asked Wanda.
"Come on!" replied Rouge, amused "Make Bobby's hair long and blond!"
"What!" shouted Bobby, indignant "No way!"
Everyone laughed and Wanda, heartened by that serene atmosphere, felt at home.
