I am going to keep this introduction part short, I decided to try something new and publish a whole mini story all at once. I started writing this story based on a joke. I was playing a game with one of my buddies late at night and I had to wake up early, I cracked a joke that I wouldn't be able to sleep anyways because I would come up with something stupid in my mind, and here we are... anyways...
She screamed in agony as she bashed her head into the ground from the pain, her lungs feeling as if they were on fire, but it was cold, cold, so cold!
Battlewinner tried to use her fire but hardly anything came out, just a small flicker of a flame, the cold dissipating for mere moments as she had to clench her throat again from the sheer pain.
She went to open her maw again to let out another flame but only a scream could come out this time. Not just from pain, but from despair.
How could everything go so wrong so quickly... how did she loose so much?
Star tried to not look behind herself as she ran down the halls, dragons laughing at her as they chased her. The halls feeling as if they were closing in on herself even though they made up her home, feeling more of a prison than a home.
"Come on, she went this way!" one of the dragons roared excitedly, Star able to hear the dragon talons clacking on the marble floor rapidly.
"Just leave me alone!" Star cried back behind her at the dragons chasing her. Failing at holding her tears back from how scared she was. Why won't they just leave me alone, I didn't even do anything to them?
"Come on Star, we just want to Play with you!" the older dragon said, having venom in her voice.
Star panicked, realizing how close the voice was behind her. She sped up as fast as she could, "No, all you guys do is hurt me and make fun of me!" Star screamed back, she started to wail as she saw a dead end up ahead, rapidly turning around to face her three sisters... the shapes of them looming over her now.
"Now that's not very nice to run away from your future queen!" the larges sister hissed in mock sadness, lightly scraping her talons on the floor as she walked up to her.
Star got down low in a defensive stance, at least the best one she could do with her tiny stature, "Then start acting like a future queen Nighthawk!" Star hissed, trying to hide how scared she actually was.
Nighthawk roared and went to take a swipe at Star but was stopped suddenly when a large pair of talons grabbed her raised arm mid swing. Nighthawk squeaked in displeasure from the tight grip on her arm, she went to turn around and roar but paled when a large familiar pair of wings was held over her, the smoke grey colored wings blocking out the ceiling with how large they were. Hooked to the wings was an angry looking NightWing that had eyes beaming down at her.
It was their father.
"What do you think you are doing?" He hissed at the trio that was just recently baring down on their own sister.
The second smallest dragon in the trio scoffed, "We were only trying to get Star to play with us," She said while smirking, idiotically thinking her lie would fool their father.
He gave a questioning look at Star with a raised eye ridge.
Star shook her head rapidly, they were lying and he knew it just as well as she did, "Nightjar is lying again, they chased me around the halls," Star cried, "Threatening to beat me up if I didn't do what they wanted!" She finished, shivering from the thought.
Their father's glare darkened.
Nightjar glared at Star, "You lying bit-"
SLAP!
Her father's tail hit Nightjar across the face, shutting her up from the painful slap, "I know you are lying, I listened from the inside of mine and your mothers room," he hissed in anger, "I gave you the chance to confess, but you clearly think I am dumb," he said, now looming over the trio, "Now all of you go to your room before I bring your mother into this!" he hissed.
The trio rapidly ran off back down the halls with their tails in between their legs.
Her father looked back down at his youngest daughter who was now sniffing, trying to not cry.
"Come here," he said kindly, dragging her over to his side and covering her with his wing, Star started crying at that, "Why do they hate me so much?"
Her father shook his head, "Oh, I don't think they hate you, they just want to pick on you some and try to scare you," he said while shaking his head, "My brothers did the same thing," he said, trying to re-assure her.
Star tore herself off his side, "Even mom doesn't love me," Star said with tears running down her face, "She ignores me when she can, and sends me off to get chased around by my sisters, she even called me a runt!"
Her father sighed as he shook his head, "While it is true that you are the smallest of your age, I think you are just fine the way you are," He said caringly. He picked her up and placed her gently on his back between his back spines, letting her grab his horns for stability, "Now come on, I got some work to do today, and I have a feeling you don't want to be alone," he said as he started walking down the halls, feeling her nod her head quietly.
He walked down the hall a little ways and opened the door to a large office room. A large map of Pyrrhia on the wall with a bunch of scribbles all over it, along with circled down places on the map that notes near them.
"You're still working on that for mommy?" Star asked curiously, remembering the map from earlier.
He nodded his head, making Star giggle from feeling herself bob up and down as he nodded, "Yep, your mom wanted me to be the one to do it as her husband, and who am I to tell her no?" he joked.
Star remained quiet on top of his head for a bit after that, but then broke the silence with a sad tone, "You never answered my question, why doesn't mom love me?"
She could feel her father freeze up from under her, "Well... she is a very busy lady and she has a lot to do, so I think she loves you but she is just to busy to show it..."
"She didn't even give me an original name!" Star roared upset, "Star is about the most generic NightWing name ever, she gave Nightjar, Nighthawk, and Whipper-will all original names!"
Her father cringed at that, "She is a... busy lady..."
Star jumped off his head and fed him a deadpanned look, "She practically worships Nighthawk..."
Her father sighed, "Shhhh," he hushed as he picked her back up, "It doesn't matter Star, do you know why?" he asked her.
Star remained quiet at the question, pouting.
"Because you have me," he said with a smile, "Just because your mother never gives you any attention doesn't mean that I don't love you, you are my daughter and you are perfect in every way," he said lovingly, bopping her snout with a talon as he placed her down on the table.
She snorted, trying to not sneeze. She giggled after that and had a smile on her face.
Her father nodded happily, "Now come on, do you want to watch me draw up these plans?" he asked her.
"YES!" Star cried happily, jumping back onto her fathers back and climbing up his neck so she could watch him work better.
She tried to stay awake as he worked, but the rhythmic humming that came from him as he wrote down more notes only helped to make her fall asleep faster...
Her eyes fluttered open when she heard voices speaking in quiet hissed tone.
"What's this I heard about you hitting Nightjar!" a voice hissed out that she could tell was her mother's, making her shiver in fear at the tone.
"They were threatening Star," her father hissed back, "I wasn't going to let that happen!"
The queen hissed back, "Remember Blackstone, you are replaceable, that is your daughter, not mine!" she said threateningly, "I wouldn't never produce such a runt, even if that egg came out of me."
Star tried to not cry at that and pick up the attention, just lightly shaking on the table that she was sleeping on, likely being placed there by her father.
Did mom hate dad as well?
"When do you think your plans will be finished?" Her mother asked, sounding as if she was calming down.
Her father sighed, "Not sure, with the RainWings getting a new queen and the MudWings going through a horrible virus, I don't want to risk invading the MudWings incase we catch what's going on there, and I want figure out Queen Carinatus and how she operates her kingdom," he tisked as he read through some of his notes.
Her mother actually looked happy for once as she nodded her head, "Good, I'd rather not cut corners so we could just lose the war in the end, keep working on this." she ordered.
She turned to leave out the door and Star heard something from her mother as she left, "Pyrrhia will be mine..."
