Goodbye, Royal Woods
Lincoln Loud is walking down his neighborhood in the city of Royal Woods, Michigan, wearing only a pair of pajamas, and an upset look on his face. He then notices the readers.
"Hey, everyone. You're probably wondering why I'm out here in my pajamas." said Lincoln in a sad tone. "Well, my family kicked me out of my home. Why would they do something like that, you may ask. They think I'm bad luck! You see, every day I have to attend my sisters' activities, like Luna's rock concerts, and Lola's pageants, so I never have any time to myself to do my own thing."
"One day, my sister, Lynn wanted me to go to a softball game of hers; I told her I wanted to stay home and read comics, but she convinced me to go, and by 'convinced', I mean threaten me with a baseball bat. The Squirrels ended up losing that game, and instead of being a good sport about it, she blames me for the loss. You see, I never went to her other softball games, and her team won them all, and the one game I did go to, her team loses, so Lynn accuses me of being bad luck and bans me from her future games. That gave me the idea of convincing my family that I was bad luck so I wouldn't have to go to all their activities so I can finally have some me time. "
"I was enjoying it at first, but then they wouldn't let me come along with things I would've been happy to go with them to, like the movies. They also won't let me eat at the table with them, then they boarded up my bedroom door, and sold my furniture, along with everything else I own, including Bun-Bun, and then they make me sleep in the backyard; I asked Charles if I could sleep with him in his doghouse, but he growled at me because even he believed I was bad luck; Man's best friend my foot! I confessed to my family that I was lying about being bad luck, but they didn't believe me, so now here I am." A frown appeared on Lincoln's face. "I guess Mom and Dad were lying when they told me and my sisters, they would never get rid of us."
After walking for a few minutes, he arrived at the home of his best friend, Clyde McBride. He rings the doorbell and waits for someone to answer. After waiting for about a minute, no one answered the door.
"Oh, that's right, Clyde and his dads are out of town at a family reunion." said Lincoln and he facepalms himself and lets out a scoff. "Why did they have to be out of town at the time my family decided to ignore their common sense, assuming they ever had it." He then leaves and walks into downtown Royal Woods with his head down.
After almost a half hour of walking, he looks up to see he was near the Royal Woods Mall. He sees a big crowd of people near the front of the mall. Curious, Lincoln walks over to see what was going on. As he walked across the parking lot, he sees a twenty-dollar bill on the ground.
"Maybe I can use this to buy some food or something." said Lincoln after he picks it up and continues walking to where the crowd of people is. He walks through the crowd until he reaches the front of it. In front of the mall was a caucasian man with black hair and beard, wearing a white sweatshirt with the image of what appeared to be a ball that's red on one half, white on the other, with a black line around the middle of it with a white button on it, blue jeans, and white shoes with red laces and soles, standing behind a table with a ticket tumbler, cash box, a roll of white, double ticket stubs, and a small stack of pamphlets on it.
"Hey, what's going on here?" asked Lincoln, getting the man's attention.
"A chance to win the opportunity of a lifetime, young man." said the man. "Buy one ticket for one dollar for the chance to win a scholarship for the Naranja Academy at the Paldea Region to learn about the exciting world of Pokemon."
"Pokemon?" asked Lincoln. The man picks up a pamphlet and hands it to Lincoln.
"This should explain everything." said the man. Lincoln takes a look at the pamphlet and couldn't believe what was on it. Apparently, there were creatures that he never would've believed existed, with all sorts of special powers. He saw a picture of three of these creatures on the pamphlet.
One was a small, red, crocodilian Pokemon, with 'Fuecoco' written under it.
Another one was a small, green, catlike Pokemon, with 'Sprigatito' written under it.
And the third one was a white, ducklike Pokemon with blue plumage on its head, with 'Quaxly' written under it.
Lincoln read the pamphlet with growing interest.
"Whoa. I never imagined that there would be creatures like this in the world." said Lincoln. He also learned that people catch Pokemon for various reasons; some catch Pokemon for companionship, some catch Pokemon to assist with tasks, and what caught Lincoln's interest was that there were people called Pokemon trainers who train Pokemon battle other trainers' Pokemon. He learned about a yearly competition called the Paldea League where trainers compete against each other to determine not only who the best trainer is, but also who gets the right to battle the current champion for his/her title.
"So, kid; you want to buy a raffle ticket? Only one dollar." said the man.
"Sure. This Pokemon stuff sounds so cool." replied Lincoln. He gives the man the twenty he found. The man then gives Lincoln his nineteen dollars in change, and one half of a ticket stub, then drops the other half into the ticket tumbler. After a few minutes, an alarm goes off on the man's watch.
"Deadline's up, everybody." said the man. The man then spins the ticket tumbler, mixing up the ticket stubs in it. He then reaches into it and pulls out a random ticket stub. "And the winning ticket number is...0214." Lincoln looks at his ticket stub and sees that he has that number on it.
"I WON! I WON!" shouts Lincoln as he holds up his ticket stub. He then gives the man his ticket stub so he can confirm that the winning number was on it.
"Congratulations, kid." said the man. "After you go home to get packed up; we'll head for the airport, then we'll head straight for the Paldea Region." An upset look appears on Lincoln's face. "Something wrong, kid?"
"Actually, this pair of pajamas I'm wearing, along with these nineteen dollars I have, is all I got. I... don't have a home anymore." said Lincoln. Everyone, including the man, look at Lincoln with pity.
"I...I'm sorry, kid." said the man. "I didn't know that."
"That's okay, sir." said Lincoln. What Lincoln didn't know was that Leni's friends; Jackie and Mandee, were there in the crowd as well.
"That poor kid." said Jackie with tears in her eyes.
"He, totes, needs that trip more than us." said Mandee, who also had tears in her eyes. The man then starts to pack up all his stuff, with Lincoln helping him out.
"Thanks for the help, kid." said the man.
"You can call me, Lincoln, sir." said Lincoln as he grabs the ticket tumbler and puts it in a plastic storage bin.
"You can call me, Travis." said the man now known as Travis.
"Okay." said Lincoln.
"You'll be happy to know that the scholarship comes with school uniforms, your own dorm room, and credit for the school's cafeteria; so, food, lodgings, and clothes won't be a problem for you." said Travis.
"That's great to hear." said Lincoln. Once everything was packed up, and Lincoln makes a quick trip to the bathroom, he and Travis head to the mall parking lot, where an airport shuttle van was waiting, and climb into it. They all then head for the airport and arrive half an hour later. They then head for a plane terminal, and board the plane that was at it.
"Ready, Lincoln?" asked Travis.
"You bet I am." said Lincoln. Twenty minutes later, the plane takes off, and starts heading towards its destination: The Paldea Region. Lincoln then turns to look at you through the airplane window.
"Well, everyone. I'm off to the Paldea Region to start my new life. I'll miss my friends, and also Pop-Pop, and my baby sister, Lily; I won't hold anything against her, due to her being a baby, and most likely didn't know any better about throwing me out. I know that I'll have a lot to work towards at the Naranja Academy; but I'm certain I can handle it." said Lincoln.
End of Chapter 1
Authors' Note: Here's the start of our rewrite. Another reason we wanted to do one was because of that expansion to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask, so there'll be some new Pokemon to work with, maybe some that would be suitable Ride Pokemon. Leave suggestions for Lincoln's new team, and we'll be doing another poll soon for what Paldean starter he should get.
