Dipper sighed and shut his locker, tuning out the ceaseless chatter of the second boy. At 17, he was on the cusp of turning 18 by the end of the upcoming summer. The prospect of finally attaining adulthood filled him with joy. Most importantly, it meant he would soon return to Gravity Falls, a thought that had him eagerly counting the days.

It had been three long years since he and Mabel had last set foot in the quaint town. It wasn't that they hadn't wanted to visit during those previous summers; school and their parents' insistence on staying in Piedmont had kept them occupied, so they could study or find part-time jobs. They'd been frustrated but unable to argue. Now, finally free from those constraints, they were ready to reunite with their friends, and Dipper couldn't wait to see… someone.

They had phones and computers, allowing them to stay in touch with a few of their friends from Gravity Falls, but it just wasn't the same as being together in person.

Dipper had experienced quite a growth spurt, now towering over Mabel (who had been initially irked but had since come to terms with it). Not only had he gained height, but he'd also shed his lanky frame and lost his noodle arms after hitting the gym twice a week. While he didn't boast well-defined muscles, he had developed considerable strength, which suited him just fine. His primary motivation for hitting the gym wasn't for looks but rather because of his involvement in the track club, which had also significantly boosted his endurance.

He wore a pair of blue jeans and a red hoodie, with his usual hairstyle concealing his birthmark. He hadn't given up Wendy's trapper hat and paid little heed to any comments it might elicit. His previous self might have felt embarrassed, but he'd undergone some mental growth! Well, perhaps not an enormous transformation, but he'd certainly evolved a bit.

"What are you so afraid of, man?" The other boy, Jake, asked in annoyance.

"I'm not afraid! It's just… Usually, we go to some friends' parties, not to total strangers," Dipper replied as he crossed his arms.

"It's not with total strangers! Isaac invited me, and now I'm inviting you," Jake retorted while pointing at Dipper.

"Isaac is literally the only guy we'll know from that party," Dipper deadpanned.

"And he knows someone who knows someone who knows the guy who is organizing the literal biggest party in school! Even with all the people going there, we're lucky that a chump like me was invited so I could invite a chump like you! We can't miss this!" Jake insisted while Dipper bit his lower lip, unsure. "School's almost over, and in two weeks, you'll be gone to that Gravity Falls place. That's our last chance," Jake added as he joined his hands in a pleading stance.

"Okay… Okay, you win," Dipper conceded.

Jake remained one of his few friends in this place, as making new ones still proved challenging no matter how many years had passed. Gravity Falls had definitely boosted his confidence, but it wasn't a miracle worker. Yet, even with their friendship, Dipper wouldn't go so far as to call Jake his best friend. After all, he'd never shared anything about his first summer in Gravity Falls with him. Jake himself was a bit on the antisocial side, and it seemed that Dipper became his friend because he didn't have anyone else.

Although he wasn't particularly eager to attend the upcoming party, he was willing to endure it for Jake's sake. Perhaps he could even learn to enjoy himself or meet an interesting girl! Dipper had briefly dated a girl two years after his initial summer in Gravity Falls, thanks to the boost in confidence and social skills he'd gained from that adventure with Stan. She had been in his class, but unfortunately, the relationship had ended on a sour note. Fortunately, his sister had been there to provide comfort, and even Wendy had offered some uplifting words over the phone, which had warmed his heart.

"Yes! You won't regret it, man!" Jake threw his arms in the air excitedly, then leaned toward Dipper. "Oh, and if your sister's available, you can tell her to come too, you know," He whispered and winked before walking away. "Tonight! Don't forget it!" He added as Dipper rolled his eyes.

Yeah, Jake didn't really hide the fact that he was crushing hard on Mable. At least, he wasn't calling her hot like he did the first time he met her since Dipper made sure he wouldn't talk of her that way in front of him. Unfortunately for Jake, Mable knew about his infatuation and really wasn't attracted to him. She said something along the lines of "I'm not that desperate yet." She still didn't have much luck with relationships. Some lasted longer than others though.

"So, I'm hearing you're going to a party?" Someone suddenly muttered in his ear from behind, making him squeal in surprise, and attracting the attention of nearby students who couldn't help but laugh.

"Mable! Why do you always sneak up on me?" Dipper complained while breathing heavily and holding his chest.

As expected, it was his sister: Mable. She changed, too. She was taller, but not taller than him anymore. She was easily a head shorter, much to her dismay. She didn't need her braces anymore and lost much of her baby fat like he did. However, she still had long brown hair and wore sweaters and skirts. She also developed in other… areas, which was why Jake had a crush on her in the first place. That was what Dipper got from his comments, anyway. Thankfully, her sweaters hid her chest most of the time, so they kept most pervs away.

"I couldn't help it! I'm so happy for you! You'll finally go to a real party!" Mable exclaimed with excitement.

"Hey! I already went to parties before!" Dipper argued as Mable snickered.

"The parties in Gravity Falls or the Shack don't count, doofus! That would be too easy!" She denied. Given their hero status, becoming the life of the party in that place posed no difficulty at all.

"Okay, well… I had parties here, too," Dipper crossed his arms.

"Parties… Right… You mean the evenings you spent playing nerd games with Jake and Isaac?" She raised an unimpressed eyebrow.

"They're not nerd games! Dungeons… Forget it," Dipper sighed while shaking his head as Mable put a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm just happy that your life is finally starting, Broseph. I hope you get a little romance, too!"

"Yeah, I hope so," Dipper muttered. "Wanna come too?"

"Nope! Sorry, but I've got a date!" Mable shook her head.

"A date? Since when? And who? I thought you wanted to have a summer romance this year," Dipper cocked an eyebrow.

"Some guy in my class. Honestly, I'm just doing that for a free dinner," Mable rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "He just didn't want to stop bothering me until I accepted, so I might as well reject him tonight after a free meal," She shrugged.

Mabel found it easier to turn people down now, of course. At least, she didn't take heartbreak as hard as she used to.

The day seemed to slip away faster than Dipper would have liked, and before he knew it, it was time for the party Jake had mentioned. It was somewhat embarrassing to hear even his parents express their pride in him for embracing a more typical teenage life. Meanwhile, Mabel pitched in with selecting his outfit, claiming that if he dressed well, he'd catch the eye of every girl at the party. He had his doubts about that.

Honestly, he simply allowed her to do her thing, seeing no reason to complain when it came to these matters. His nerves were primarily driven by apprehension about how the party would unfold. He couldn't help but dwell on worst-case scenarios, like enduring such humiliation that he'd forever be the school's laughingstock. On the flip side, most people didn't really pay much attention to him or his awkwardness. The most likely outcome was that he'd end up feeling bored, sequestered in some corner, either on his own or with Jake.

Speaking of the other boy, he came to pick Dipper up in his parents' car, driving him to the party himself.

"Your sister's not coming?" Jake asked as Dipper sat down in the passenger seat and put on the seatbelt.

"No, she's busy with something," Dipper replied, making the other boy sigh in disappointment.

"That's a shame. She's missing out," Jake commented before smiling. "Our life is finally starting! Can you believe it? We won't be losers anymore, so we better not screw this up!" He said excitedly.

"Is that really so important? There's only the senior year remaining. After that, we probably won't even see any of these people ever again," Dipper raised his hands. Not only that, but it wasn't like they were bullied or anything like he was when he was in middle school. They were simply considered nobodies, and he was fine with it as long as he had good friends. He couldn't tell if he had good friends here… But at least he had some in Gravity Falls.

"That's because you don't pay attention, dude. Believe me, I hear what everyone says behind our backs," Jake grumbled while holding the wheel tight.

"Wait? They say things behind our backs? What did I do?" Dipper inquired incredulously as Jake remained silent, simply rolling his eyes in annoyance.

He didn't bother replying as he continued to drive in silence.

"We should be there soon. You could have left that old hat at home, you know?" Jake mentioned after half an hour, looking at Dipper's trapper hat in the corner of his eye.

"Sorry, but I feel better when it stays with me," He retorted, earning a sigh from his friend.

"Whatever, man. Oh! We're here!" Jake suddenly exclaimed as he parked behind a car on the sidewalk and quickly got out, followed by Dipper.

The boy with the trapper hat had to concede that he understood why Jake was so determined to attend the party once he laid eyes on the house. It was enormous, suggesting the host was likely quite wealthy, although it still didn't quite measure up to the grandeur of one of their certain friends' old mansions.

The scene outside the house was a bustling one. People were scattered everywhere — some stood at the front, holding cups and engaged in conversations. Others populated the terrace, while even more were dancing or, rather, moving to the music inside, as glimpsed through the open windows. The music was deafening, and vibrant lights transformed the place into what felt like a nightclub. Dipper couldn't fathom how the neighbors were even tolerating it.

He didn't even realize Jake was pulling him toward the house until they actually entered, and his vision was assaulted by those same lights. There were even more people inside! Did Jake really expect he would stand out in there?

"Come on, let's have a drink!" Jake shouted as he pulled him through the crowd.

"What? We just got here! I… I'm not sure I want to drink here!" Dipper shouted back as Jake shook his head in annoyance.

"Have at least one drink!" The other boy replied as he got to a table covered with various bottles of alcohol and piles of plastic cups.

"J-Just one, then…" Dipper muttered, although it went unheard, Jake gave him a cup without even saying what he poured in it.

Dipper gazed at it with hesitation, then let out a sigh. "Let's just get this over with," he thought, downing it all in one gulp. In hindsight, he realized it had been a foolish decision.

Flashes. All he could recall were fleeting moments, mere flashes. He danced alongside Jake, losing himself in the music for an indeterminate amount of time. His usual anxiety and awkwardness seemed to melt away as if he no longer cared about how others perceived him.

He reached for another cup and downed its contents in a single gulp, repeating his earlier mistake.

More flashes disrupted his vision as the world started to spin. Conversations with Jake, dancing with an unfamiliar girl, and then more drinking. It felt like an endless loop as if the party would never conclude. Suddenly, Jake was no longer by his side, and he found himself encircled by strangers. To his surprise, he didn't struggle with conversation, particularly since he had grabbed yet another drink.

As time elapsed, the crowd around him dwindled, and darkness enveloped his senses. The music faded into a distant hum as his head spun, rendering him barely capable of staying on his feet. The last coherent memory he retained was of a stranger grabbing him, attempting to converse, but all Dipper could discern was a persistent buzzing in his ears. He remained oblivious to the stranger suddenly lunging at him, restraining him while sinking teeth into his neck. Dipper's eyes gradually closed, weighed down by an overwhelming lethargy.

Dipper's eyes snapped open in a panic, wide with fear, as he clutched his throbbing head, noticing he was still wearing Wendy's hat. He felt dizzy, overcome by nausea, and his body was drenched in sweat. With a groan, he attempted to rise but promptly tumbled back onto the floor.

"What happened?" He muttered to himself, alarmed by the absence of the party sounds. No, there was no party to be found! He wasn't even inside the house anymore. Instead, he found himself in a dim, decrepit warehouse. Before he could even begin to recollect the events leading to his blackout, a voice from the shadows interrupted his thoughts.

"Finally awake?" A masculine voice remarked, startling Dipper out of his thoughts.

"What? Where?" Dipper looked around frantically as someone stepped out of the shadows.

"Did I scare you?" The man chuckled in amusement.

He emerged from the shadows, shrouded in a flowing obsidian coat that cascaded down his form, revealing a tantalizing glimpse of a deep crimson shirt nestled beneath. Every step he took was a graceful dance in those ebony pants and polished black shoes. Ebony hair, like a raven's wing, swept back from his angular face with an air of timeless elegance. But it was his eyes that held you captive – twin orbs of crimson, vivid as freshly spilled blood. From his looks, he might have been in his thirties.

Dipper's hands trembled inexplicably. For some reason, his entire being was screaming at him to run and hide! Whatever was in front of him was a dangerous predator, ready to pounce at any given moment. Yet, he couldn't do anything with his fight-or-flight response. Whether he was paralyzed by fear or all the alcohol he just drank, he didn't know. There was one thing he knew though… The man in front of him wasn't human. Dipper had enough experience with the supernatural to know that. To be sure of that. The boy dared to look behind the man, noticing several pairs of crimson orbs farther in the shadows. They weren't alone.

"I see you're still scared. You don't have to be. Not yet. You probably don't know me, Mason Alex Pines," The man said, making Dipper's eyes widen.

"How do you know my name?!" He asked, already panicking. No! He needed to keep calm! He should have enough experience to know that when facing the supernatural! However, that was because he was usually prepared to face it. He didn't expect to come across anything weird in Piedmont!

"I checked your ID," The man responded in a bored tone as he threw Dipper's ID to him. With a shaking hand, the high schooler put it back in his pocket. "I am Joseph Lune. Now that the presentations are done. You must be wondering why you are here, I presume?" He asked as Dipper hesitantly nodded. "You've been at a party a few hours ago. Do you remember that?"

"I-I do! Where is Jake?" Dipper demanded as Joseph cocked an eyebrow.

"I do not know any 'Jake.' You are the only one we have invited here. I will cut to the chase. Do you remember him?" Joseph asked as something was suddenly thrown out of the shadows and rolled to Dipper's feet.

The boy narrowed his eyes in confusion until he finally noticed what it was. What rolled to his feet was a decapitated head of a blond man, whose face was stuck in a horrified expression. The blood pouring out of his neck alone nearly made Dipper puke as he screamed, crawling away.

"You will have to excuse me. I didn't mean to scare you," Joseph chuckled with his arms behind his back. "Please, look at his face and try to remember. Is that man familiar to you?" He asked again as Dipper tried to catch his breath and calm himself, staring at the man's face. Yes. Yes, he looked familiar.

"Is… I think I saw him at the party? We talked, but that's all!" Dipper responded while Joseph was nodding along.

"Indeed, you were just talking. That's what you remember, anyway. You are probably wondering what happened to him. See, this man committed a very serious crime. He disobeyed one of our rules. He turned you… Into a vampire," Joseph explained as Dipper's jaw dropped.

"A… Huh?" Was all Dipper would utter. What did he just say? No, that couldn't be right! He couldn't be a vampire! Could he? Why was there a vampire here anyway?! He wasn't even sure there were any vampires in Gravity Falls! Wait… Did that mean they were also… "And you're… A vampire, too?"

"Indeed. It must come as a shock to you to learn of the supernatural," Joseph replied in amusement. Dipper decided not to tell him he was actually quite familiar with it. "This man would have been allowed to turn you if he had made you his cattle or was perhaps going to add you to his harem. Unfortunately, he was nothing but a buffoon intending to recruit soldiers for… a revolution of sorts. Against me," He explained, but Dipper did not care about those at all.

"I'm a vampire? No! That must be a mistake! I-I don't… There is a cure, right? Please, tell me there is a cure!" Dipper pleaded, much to Joseph's annoyance.

"There is no cure, boy! You will stay a vampire for your entire eternal life, and there is nothing you can do about it. Do not treat this as a curse. Even as a lesser vampire, you are now in a realm different from mere mortals. Even if your turning was a mistake committed by a fool," Joseph said in a cold tone and put Dipper's questions to an abrupt end.

"Lesser vampire?" Dipper asked in confusion.

"Of course, there are different ranks among our species. The highest being the Vampire Lord. Although someone like you will be lucky to be a regular Vampire, the rank right above your current one," Joseph grinned, before putting up a serious expression. "Now, I understand you are still confused, boy. However, I have no time to waste. The reason I brought you here," He said as Dipper's eyes traveled to the decapitated head. "Oh, no, you will not be killed. Well, it depends on your decision. You have responsibilities now that you are a vampire. You can accept those… Or we can kill you now and be done with it,"

Dipper gulped, but he wasn't about to be stupid, refuse, and get killed here. He doubted he could come out of this alive by fighting.

"I guess… The choice is obvious…" He nervously chuckled.

"Good," Joseph smirked. "Since the fool that turned you was from my clan, you shall be a part of it, too. Your transformation isn't complete yet, but it shall be soon enough. Stand up and don't grovel so pathetically on the floor," Joseph ordered as Dipper slowly nodded.

He placed his hands on the floor, using them to push himself up as he grappled with the aftermath of that terrible hangover. The impending responsibilities remained a mystery, and frankly, he had no intention of adhering to their rules or demands. Now that his head had cleared somewhat, he could think more clearly. It seemed wiser to feign cooperation for the time being while secretly searching for a cure. He would be ready to stand his ground if necessary, even seeking assistance from Gravity Falls as long as Joseph remained unaware of their involvement.

"You will be transformed soon, boy. You better go home and be ready for it. One of my followers shall come to you tomorrow to inform you of the rules and your responsibilities," Joseph explained as Dipper looked confused.

"But… You don't even know where I live…" He muttered.

"Trust me. We can find you," The vampire retorted with a smirk, making Dipper gulp. "Do not disappoint me, boy. Not that I expect much from a Lesser Vampire like you. Oh, and just so you know… Do not mention anything about vampires to anyone. As you can see… I quite dislike treason," He added with a small laugh before suddenly turning into black smoke, which flew out of an open window. The pair of eyes behind soon disappeared as other trails of smoke left through the same exit he used.

Dipper didn't even have any time to reply. Maybe it was better this way. He almost soiled his pants because of that man's aura. It was with terror and shaking hands that he replayed Joseph's last words before he left. He… He couldn't talk about this to anyone else. Not yet anyway. And he had to go to Gravity Falls in two weeks, too!

What kind of shit did he get himself into, now?
