This is all just the prolouge, the real stuff happens soon.

Three Months Later

Three months of training had passed for Damien, and he was reborn through sheer effort. Case in point, the small green flames dancing in his palms, maintained through sheer will and effort and understanding. Rin looked on his pride, pleased her pupil had accomplished so much. In just three months he was capable of a variety of basic spells and rituals and potions.

He healed his own wounds from training, so long as they were basic cuts and bruises, could move small objects and start fires. He helped in her potions garden, with and without magic. He was even able to start scrying, which they used to watch demons from all over the islands, as well as the horrors of human wars. She knew that Tobi used that as a way to have the boy learn tactics and strategy.

Her student even started creating potions, mostly to soothe his sore muscles, but also started to create spell pouches to hold and anchor more potent magics. He was so, so, so close to being able to create a barrier, and that just filled her with pride.

According to her beloved Tobi, the boy was slower at kendo practice than he was at magic, but was still making progress. He had lost weight and gained focus. He also started to pick up unarmed combat quicker, Damien's body was strong and he could do quite a bit already.

She knew that in a few years, the boy would be a powerful force and that would allow him to survive their harsh reality.

Or, so she hoped.

A Year Later

Tobi was proud, so deeply of his student as he sparred with three of the other sprites. The boy had, in a mere year, become an excellent combatant. While he was no master, he was something else and often overpowered his various sprites. He was fast and brutal, a surgically accurate fighter.

He knew that even with Rin he was the same, being able to heal most wounds, casting powerful spells and barriers, manipulate nature and more. The boy was a real force.

It was now that Tobi felt ready to give the boy a real blade, not just a wooden training sword.

"Really, master?" The boy said, looking at the blade in awe. It was a simple blade, but blessed with simple magic. "I can feel the magic, it is for durability, even when toucehd by a demon's essence, right?"

Tobi nodded. "Yes, forged by our master's hand. You cannot use our divine metals, but this is something you deserve. Be proud, son, you deserve this."

And the boy went red, pleased and proud and more than happy.

And that everything.
