He waited until everyone was far, far, away from Darkwood, then climbed down the branch and dangled in front of the tree as he tried to find proper footing below him.

"Ya know hangin' from trees is dangerous, right?" Falor said, appearing from nowhere.

Yamagen screamed and fell.

Falor flew down to him. "See? I told ya."

He pushed himself up with one arm, pain surging through the other. "I fell...because of you. Didn't I tell you to leave me alone?"

"Yeah, but I wanted to say that...if ya wanted to keep people away from ya tree, I can help. I get ya're not ready to meet people, but maybe if we could take a tour 'round Concordia, you can see the great things people can do here when we're together."

"Together? I didn't even want this! I just want you to leave me alone!"

Falor sighed. "Fine. I'll leave ya alone because I respect ya wishes. But I'm here if ya ever need me." He flapped away.

Yamagen sat, cross-legged, in front of the tree. He looked to his pained arm, realizing he must have broken it when he landed on it when he fell. He closed his eyes and tried to focus on the tree rather than the pain.

"Darkwood, you haven't spoken to me since we fought. I'm getting worried. Is everything alright?"

"Yamagen, you still neglect my needs. Do you have any clue as to why I refuse to speak to you?"

"Because you're mad at me?"

"I am the child of the previous tree of unity. You've cared for me so dearly, but you still fail to remember your duty as a Wattanist.

"Your ancestors cared for a tree like me for eons. But they began to fight. The land began to crack and the animals began to die. The tree was uprooted in the skirmish, and the land drifted apart.

"They knew they were doomed, but trusted you, the last of their offspring, to care for a new tree. They sent you to the center of Concordia to plant and care for the new tree.

"But you grew greedy. You thought you were better off alone. Your twisted goal was causing me, the only thing you care for besides yourself, to die. Your foolish behavior led me to become desperate and achieve the ancient Concordians' goal without you. You failed them. You turned against them, destroying your Bond and breaking a life-long promise."

"But I'm right, you know. I was just fine, and then these people show up...I've been knocked unconscious and broke an arm because of them, and you! I'm not afraid of destroying you to ensure I get my world of isolation. People only hold you back!"

"This is the exact corruption I've told you about. You fail to realize what path you're taking, but you need to stop now before it's too late. Continue this behavior, and I will remove our Bond."

"Bond smond! You think I care about that? I only care about you and me! You and me! Forever! Alone! In perfect isolation!" He waved his fist in a tantrum.

"Then you are willing to risk your Bond, just for the sake of being alone?"

"What are you even talking about? I have no Bonds! You're just a dumb tree! I don't even know why I cared for you so, if you aren't going to care for me in return! This is why I hate people! All they do is take, and hurt, and twist your brain!"

"And you believe you are not doing the same thing to me, that you accuse others of doing to you."

Yamagen kicked the roots of the tree. "Stop saying that! You know it's wrong!"

The tree shook its branches and something fell from the leaves. Yamagen didn't get a good look at it before it hit him on the head.

"I don't need this anymore, I can find another Wattanist to care for me."
