Author's note: My first ever fanfic. I rewrote it multiple times before deciding I got it right—slow updates, but maybe a new chapter once a month. I have up to chapter 5 written on my Google doc, but they are still rough drafts. Enjoy, and please give constructive criticism to help me. Thanks, and enjoy Chapter 1 of RWBY: Weak Hero.

Beacon is a school of hopes and dreams. Arguably the most incredible hunter academy in all of Remnant. And arriving at the campus are students who will unknowingly make history.
"Look at us, Gogo! We're finally in Beacon!" Ben Park giddily exclaimed, draping one arm over his friend and excitedly raising the other. "I know this is so cool, but maybe tone it down a notch, Ben. Some people are getting annoyed," laughed Alex "Gogo" Go slightly embarrassed. "Let them be annoyed, and if one of them comes at us for it, then I'll show them my signature Big Ben strength!" boasts Ben with bravado while flexing his right arm. "Ha, true. If someone does get annoyed enough to confront us, you're more than strong enough to make them reconsider," laughs Gogo.
At the same time, another conversation has been happening between two sisters. "See, Rubes, you should act like those guys over there instead of being scared. I mean, you were allowed to skip ahead two years of combat school. That should give you the confidence to be the bee's knees," jabbed Yang Xaio-Long with sincerity. "But I don't want to be the bees' knees, Yang. I want to have regular knees. So please stay here with me since people are much scarier than their awesome weapons," spoke Ruby Rose, quaking in uneasiness. "Well, sorry, sis, but I think those are my friends over there, so later," laughed Yang abruptly, leaving Ruby alone. "Ah! Yang, don't leave me!" yelled Ruby as she then tried to chase after her.
As Ruby ran to find her sister, she passed by two people walking, with one walking anxiously. 'Man, everybody here looks intimidating to talk to. Still, it's cool that Ben Park and Alex Go are here. Woah! I didn't expect Gerard Jin to be here either. Oh man, that's Philip Kim already walking with a posse. There is Cardin Winchester. I hope that I don't get on his bad side. And that's Teddy Jin walking with his friend. Hmm, that guy doesn't look too intimidating. Maybe I'll talk to him,' ponders Eugene Gale. "Hi, I'm Eugene. What's your name?" Eugene asks. The person beside him looks at him and then speaks after a short deliberation. "I'm Gray," Gray Yeon quietly said, almost absent-mindedly. "I don't know if you care, but…" Eugene decided to give Gray a rundown of famous fighters joining Beacon, and Gray listened quietly.
As Eugene talks to Gray, Ruby, running around looking for her sister, suddenly bumps into Ben. "Oof, oh, I'm sorry!" exclaims Ruby. "No worries, ningún problema," replies Ben. "It's just I was chasing my sister and didn't see where I was going when suddenly I–" Ruby stops speaking as she looks Ben directly in the eyes, "You. You have silver eyes." She says with a slight gasp. "Woah, you have them too. I didn't think I'd see another person with them. Well, nice to meet you. I'm Ben, and this is my friend Gogo." "Woah, you do have silver eyes," said Gogo. "Well, I'm Ruby, and I'm so sorry for bumping into you. See you two later, bye." Then, with a burst of speed, she leaves to find her sister until she bumps into someone else.
A large gathering of potential students arrives at a podium where they expect Professor Ozpin to give his speech. The Schnee heiress waits amongst the students on her lonesome when she meets someone she hoped not to see. "So you're actually here," says Weiss, mildly surprised. This sudden announcement got the attention of whom she just called out. Turning around, Gray greets Weiss in a monotone tone full of curtsy, "Hello, Weiss. Always a pleasure." "Save the niceties for someone who cares. I didn't believe Father when he said you were to try out for Beacon. Someone like you shouldn't even be here. Oum knows how many strings he had to pull just for you to get accepted for the initiation process. Too bad it'll be all for naught, and in the end, you'll just become another stain on our family record. Why couldn't you stay away?" And with a spiteful glare, she says, "Don't tarnish the Schnee name any more than you already have." And in a huff, she walks to another spot to escape his presence. Gray looked at her with a slightly annoyed but otherwise emotionless face as she walked away. "You know Weiss Schnee?!" Eugene asks in a hushed tone with sudden bewilderment. After a few seconds, Gray looks at him and responds casually, "She's my cousin on my mother's side. Her father is my uncle." Afterward, Gray remains silent and looks back at the podium, deep in thought, which Eugene takes as a signal to no longer ask questions relating to him.
Ben and Gogo reach the large gathering of people and begin to wait when Ben hears Ruby talking. And in his typical fashion, he walks up to her unabashed with a warm greeting. "Nice to you again, my fellow sliver-eyed cousin. What's happening here?" "Oh, Ben! Nice to see you again. I'm reintroducing myself to Weiss after we accidentally blew up on each other," Giddyly replies Ruby. "Wow, meltdown already. It's not even the first official day of Beacon," says Gogo in shock. "No, what she meant is that She nearly blew us up by accident," Weiss said in an annoyed tone. "Oh, so that's what that was. It's nice to see that you two are all right. I'm Ben, and this is Gogo over here." Ben responds with an earnest smile. "Hey, what did you mean by silver-eyed cousin?" asks Jaune, who finally finds Ruby again after overhearing her conversation. "Yeah, I'm curious too; what did you mean by that–" Yang asks when she is shocked by Ben's eyes. "Woah, I never thought I'd see another pair of silver eyes aside from Mom's and Ruby's." "What's so special about silver eyes?" interjects Weiss with confusion and curiosity. "Nothing, just that they're extremely rare. And Ben is the only person outside of my mom who has them," responds Ruby nonchalantly. Jaune leans towards the group, especially towards Weiss, "Hey, I'm Jau–." Suddenly, the mic on the podium starts as Ozpin begins his speech, interrupting Jaune's introduction.
After Professor Ozpin had just finished his relatively short speech, one Cardin Winchester was on the prowl looking for an easy picking. 'Damn, Cardin Winchester is out on a prowl. I better keep my head down. I don't want to become his breadrunner for the rest of Beacon,' Eugene meekly internalizes. Just then, Cardin finally chose a victim. The effeminate-looking Gray. He walks up to Gray as Gray reads a study booklet. "Man, what a string bean we have here. I wonder if he's a chick." In a sudden action, Cardin lifts Gray and looks down his pants.
"HAHA. He is a dude. Heh, Wow, he's packing down her–" BAM. Cardin gets elbowed in the face by Gray. Then, in quick succession, Gray ties Cardin's hands behind his back and kicks him in the back of his legs, forcing him to kneel. As Cardin knelt, he angrily began to speak. "You mother fuc–" Slap, "Do you know who I a–" Slap, "Just you wait until I break–" Slap. But Gray couldn't care as he slapped him repeatedly with hard swipes. Cardin's face swelled with pain, and tears threatened to release. He had a bruised cheek with a cut, a tear in his lip, and a bloody nose all over. Gray's face was tense with silent anger, orchid-colored eyes piercing like a demon. "You don't get it. Do you?" WHACK, another slap hits Cardin once more. "Make a scene in front of me again, and next time, I'll gouge out your eyes." Gray Yeon debuted in Beacon with a cold demon-like demeanor before passing initiation.
