Summary: It's time that Nick introduced Hank to the world as it truly is, fairytales and all.

Mon coeur – My Heart (French)

Through The Looking Glass

The smell of the hospital realy played hell with Nick's heightened senses as he sat in a chair at Holly's bedside, it had been a few days since they'd brought the missing girl back from the forest. Her temperature had spiked and the infection was bad so she'd been rushed straight to surgery to remove the buckshot, Renard had been on the ball as she was taken in, he'd seen to it that her doctors where all wesen able to deal with a feral Blutbad. He'd made sure there was even a Blutbad on the team to help her adjust back into the world, he'd even shaped a cover story with the doctors for why her mother could not see her just yet.

Nick felt for her mother but knew at least for now she'd need to be kept in the dark but like with Hank she'd need to be brought into their world just not as violently if she wants to keep up with Holly's life as she grows up. Ever the mother hen from the shadows Nick rolled his eyes when another doctor ushed him into another area to be checked over, between Holly and the dealers two brothers Nick had received a few cut, bruises and a broken wrist but other than that he was good to go.

Now he was sat back in one of the two chairs within the room, he was scanning through the news and other things on his phone. His face broke into a smile as he saw a video had been sent to him from Hank, it was a press conference given by Renard, Nick couldn't help but feel pride at his mate to be's commanding presence as he spoke about Holly and how his officers had recovered the young girl and broke up a massive drug ring. He also spoke about the arrest of the dealer and his brothers, Nick showed Monroe the video who was sat within the chair opposite him.

Both men had been cleared to stay with Holly by Renard, so far, they were the only outside influence allowed around the young girl. She'd woken for a short time after her surgery and had tried to fight until she'd seen Monroe and Nick, she quickly calmed down as they explained, they didn't know how much she understood but she seemed to settled and soon fell into a deep sleep. A genteel knock at the door made them look up, seeing Renard Nick looked to Monroe before inviting him into the room. Getting up from his chair Nick hugged him hard, the day's events had worn on Nick more than he had thought. Renard returned the hug in kind after hearing the phone get dropped had panicked him, this was not a feeling he was used to but also had driven home hard just how dangerous both their lives were.

It had made him realise just how precious each moment they had together was, Monroe felt like he was intruding and as much as he didn't want to break the two men up, he knew Renard had an image to keep. Quietly coughing making both men look at him as Nick blushed a little, Monroe felt a little guilty for breaking the moment as they sat down. Renard removed his suit jacket and rolled up his sleeves as he rested against the wall but his hand never left Nick's, Renard informed them of the parts of the case they'd not been present for and about the arrest of Addison as well as his original intentions nine years ago.

Monroe and Nick growled together as Renard calmed them informing them, he shared their reactions, so he was prepared to do what was needed to see him serve every day of his sentence. Eventually the conversation turned to Hank, it was with a heavy sigh Nick told Renard about what happened and what he'd said to Hank.

"So, as you can see Sean, we have no way out of this. We tell him or you have to take matters in hand and do something that could cause your human image irreparable damage. As I see it if we tell him and he takes it as well as he seems to be then we have an ally within your people, he and I could work together more. As much as I enjoy hunting with you Monroe somethings would be easier if I had legal backup" said Nick as he looked at Monroe.

"Dude I totally understand, having a cop on side could make a few things easier for us all" Monroe agreed as Renard sighed and shook his head.

"I agree, Hank is a good detective. I can't afford to lose him. As long as it goes well, he could be an assets to me, but if it goes badly, I will cross that path when it happens. But for now, we need to focus on Miss Clark, my people will do all they can for her and once she's calm enough, we will allow Claudia to visit her daughter slowly" said Renard as Nick looked at him confusedly at the use of Holly's mothers first name.

" Claudia Clark is a formidable lawyer; Harrison had loved to have her working for him but given how close those who work for him are to the wesen world as well as myself he'd been forced to overlook her. Now though it looks like she may have to be informed about our world in order to understand what Holly's going through, this may work in our favour. She can be offer a safe place to understand what Holly's going through and I may be able to bring her into Berman, Rautbort and Associates that way she can still work around helping her daughter" explained Renard as both Nick and Monroe agreed before Nick gave out a yawn making Renard stand and pull Nick to his feet.

"Come on sleeping beauty, your dead on your feet. It's time for you to get more than four hours sleep mon Coeur. My people can watch over Miss Clark for tonight, if it is needed, they will call you or Monroe" Renard said to Nick as he pulled his jacket back on while Nick gave Monroe a look.

"Dude he's right, go home and sleep. I can come check on her in the morning or if they call. Don't give me that look I'm not the one who's wrist was busted by two goons with guns. Go enjoy your Prince for the day, since something tells me he'd not leaving your side for at least twenty-four hours maybe forty-two" laughed Monroe as Nick shook his head but didn't argue as Renard guided him out of the room.

A few days later Nick and Monroe sat waiting in the coffee shop as they waited for Hank to arrive, Monroe nervously fiddled with his spoon while Nick who was far too tired to be just drank his coffee and texted back and forth with Renard. Hank arrived not long after them looking just as haggard as they were, sitting down he ordered his drink and they all sat in silence before Hank broke the silence.

"So…" Nick shook his head as he looked at Hank.

"This is not the place for all that, this is just for the warning" said Nick calmy making Hank swallow hard and listen.

"This is not a joke, I'm not crazy and this is not something that's common knowledge outside of those who this affects. Those who chose to share this secret with you are not freaks who are here to perform for your amusement, these are my friends and dare I say my family. But on the flip side you are about to be let in on a secret that's been around since the beginning of time, because of this you are now one of us and for that you are now family and I protect my family with my life" the cool way Nick spoke made even Monroe shudder as the 'Grimm' hung in the air.

Finishing his drink Nick got to his feet and after asking Monroe to ride with Hank they headed back to his home. Hank felt like he was walking through the twilight zone as they pulled up outside a normal house on a normal street, Nick's bike was parked in the driveway while Renard was stood at the door watching them as they approached. Inside was also normal, not that Hank knew what he should have expected as he took a seat on Nick's couch.

Monroe sat in one of the armchairs while Hank watched Renard as he moved around the house with ease, a small part of Hank pointed out since Nick was in a relationship with him, he should be used to being in the house. Nick disappeared before returning carrying a large and old looking book that he placed down upon the table before him, then Nick sat down on the couch before Hank. Opening the book, the turned it to face Hank and let him look through it as he spoke.

"The world you know is only scratching the surface, all those myths and legends of half humans like werewolves and centaurs are somewhat true. They are called Wesen Monroe and Holly are but two of the wesen within Portland, I've known about this my whole life, my kind are known as Grimm's we can see their true forms even when they don't want us to. Because of this my kind were often highly valued by some groups, because of this somewhere down the line my kind crossed over from being protectors of wesen kind to their greatest enemy. Grimms hunted and killed wesen without care or mercy, turning us into a nightmare, something to be feared and hated" Nick said with a sigh as Hank looked up from the book.

His mind was swimming with all he'd been told and all he'd just skimmed over from the book.

Every part of him was screaming to run but the detective within him was connecting the dots and understanding how much sense this was making.

"It has taken Nick a while as well as a lot of effort to earn the trust of the Wesen of Portland, his effort in solving the Sam Bertram case and then aiding to find the kidnapped little girl. These were the cases that solidified the feelings of the wesen in favour of Nick" said Renard making Hank jump as he forgot Renard was around, it was then that something clicked with Hank as he turned to face Renard who was lent against the kitchen counter listening in.

"You know about all this Captain?" Hank asked cautiously as a smile broke over Renard's face as he drank from his mug.

That's when a fog almost lifted and Hank saw Renard in a new light, Hank was taken back at the way he was dressed in jeans, a black vest top and a light open shirt over it. Hank also could swear he could see ink running up his neck and over his shoulders, the smirk on his face was also new to him. Nick saw this realisation as he spoke up.

"Yes, Sean knows about all of this after all this is his kingdom of sort" Nick answered nonchalantly making Hank choak on his drink.

"Kingdom?... as in he's a king kingdom?" questioned Hank as Nick snickered and Monroe smirked.

"Yes and no Hank, as much as some people like to tease me, I'm not quite a king, I'm the bastard son of the Austrian royal family. My father is king Frederick Renard and I'm the bastard prince, my older brother Eric is the crown prince. I was forced to flee my home when I was younger Portland became the home I started setting up when I came to this country, this is my canton" explained Renard as Hank looked confused.

"It's a small community I've claimed in essence as my kingdom, this is my right as a royal bastard or not it's my duty to protect my people. In return they support my claim and recognise my rule, it's taken me over ten years but now my canton is safe and settled. On the surface I'm no more than a police captain but in essence I rule over all within Portland, I have people and agents that help me rule and keep most things inline Nick is one of those but mostly he is my chosen" Renard answered with a walm smile on his face.

"So, as I understand all this there is a whole other set of people in the world that live like the wizards in Harry Potter, except these people are all around us and our captain is not only a part of all this but he rules over them?" asked Hank as Nick nodded.

"Yep, that's the gist of it" answered Nick as Hank looked at Monroe.

"So, what's your story?" Hank asked Monroe who shrugged.

"More then I wish it was dude, but the long and short of it I'm wesen" answered Monroe with a shrug.

"How does that work?" Hank asked with an unbelieving tone, this made Monroe smirk before he woged making Hank jump.

"As I said dude, I'm in deep in this but I'd not change a thing about it. Like your missing girl I'm a Blutbad, a wolf like wesen. Nick's ancestors bastardised my kind as the big bad wolf" explained Monroe as Hank still looked confused.

"My ancestors are descendants of the brothers Grimm, according to our history that's where we got our names don't ask what we were call before that. They recorded the wesen of the world and used them in their stories. As far as I know we are few and far between, there is never many of us at once. I've only known a handful my whole life outside of my own family, some become Grimm and some don't my mother and aunt were but my uncle never was" Hank listened intently as Nick explained as much as he knew.

Afterward Nick got up and walked over to retrieve a beer from the fridge and handed it to Hank, since he looked like he'd needed it. Hank didn't argue as he swallowed it down but his attention remained on Nick and Monroe.

"So, what now? How do we go on from here?" Hank asked as Renard moved from his spot in the kitchen and headed to join them.

"For now, nothing, but in the future if a case happens to crossover into unexplained territory, you will understand if you see more of Nick. On the other hand, if you think your case or any other is drifting into the territory you can speak to myself or go directly to Nick. Other than that nothing much should change on the surface, you might find that a few wesen would feel safer approaching or talking to you during a case" Renard explained as he came to sit next to Nick taking his hand.

"Ok I can live with that, just give me sometime to process all this" said Hank with a smile.

"That's all I can ask of you" replied Renard as Nick nodded.

The mood settled and the group began chatting and sharing stories, soon a friendship seemed to blossom between them. As the streets outside darkened and the hours passed the group said their goodbyes leaving Nick and Renard alone together for the first time in weeks. Nick sighed as he lent back against the door, Renard smiled at him from the living room where he'd been cleaning up. Walking over he offered Nick his hand, taking it, he pulled Nick close and kissed him lovingly. Nick loved these few moments he could steal with the older, powerful man who it had turned out was a romantic.

Renard guided Nick through the house as he turned out the lights and locked up, heading up the stairs Nick's suddenly felt bone tired. He followed Renard's orders as he pulled him into the bedroom, stripping him of his clothing before placing him under the covers before Renard joined him and settled for the night.
