Harry Potter in Storybrooke
Prologue
'Once Upon A Time', there was a boy named Tom Riddle. From a young age he exhibited antisocial Behavior. He had violent sociopathic tendencies. Then one day shortly after he turned 11 years old, a wizard by the name of Albus Dumbledore came to his bedroom in the orphanage that he lived in, and told him that he was to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and become a wizard.
In an alternate universe called the Enchanted Forest, a place where all of the storybook characters that we know and love exist for real together, a young woman by the name of Regina had lost the love of her life, Daniel, because a young girl of the Royal Family, Princess Snow White had betrayed a confidence. And Regina became a powerful Sorceress in order to enact revenge! She became the story book character that we all know from Snow White as, The Evil Queen!
In our world, at Hogwarts Tom Riddle showed a remarkable aptitude for Magic and he was a model student. He excelled in every one of his classes and made it to the top of his class. He then delved deeper into magic than anyone else in history ever. He became, Lord Voldemort! He waged war against the Wizarding community of Britain and Scotland.
In the Enchanted Forest, The Evil Queen, Regina, enacted her curse to destroy all of the Happy Endings so that she could finally win. This brought all of the storybook characters that we know and love to our world in a town called Storybrooke. In the American state of Maine.
In our world, One day Lord Voldemort found out about a prophecy that a boy was going to destroy him. Tom Riddle, alias 'Voldemort', tried to eliminate this threat. But after killing the boy's mother, this cast a powerful protective barrier over the boy which resulted in the dark lord being destroyed by his own rebounded curse. Years later, The dark lord Voldemort managed to regenerate his body by use of Harry Potter's blood and Peter Pettigrew's flesh.
3 years later, Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter faced off in a duel. Harry Potter's own disarming charm rebounded Lord Voldemort's killing curse right back at him and killed him.
The Wizarding community in Britain and Scotland entered into an era of Peace after all of the Death Eaters were rounded up.
Minister for Magic Kingsley Shacklebolt then asked Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, and Hermione Granger, to check in on a mysterious magical phenomenon in the state of Maine that the Magical Congress of America had requested.
Chapter 1
Harry Potter was driving a rented car. His best friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger were in the backseat. They were engaged to be married. Harry Potter was also engaged to be married to Ron Weasley's younger sister Ginny Weasley, who had been accepted to play on the Holyhead Harpies Quidditch team.
As part of a special program for international magical cooperation, these three British Wizards and witches had been invited to the United States by the Magical Congress of America to investigate a phenomenon in the state of Maine.
As far as the rest of the United States was concerned the area in question was supposed to be a very large area of forest that most people don't venture to. In fact for some strange and unknown reason no one had ventured into that area for 28 years.
They were driving down the highway until all of a sudden Harry Potter saw a sign saying 'You Are Now Entering Storybrooke'. But the thing is he didn't see the sign until they were almost right on top of it. He didn't see it in advance from down the road. Almost as though the sign materialized out of thin air until he was right up close to it.
He still vaguely took no notice of it.
They kept on driving until they saw buildings ahead. Obviously the main town area.
"Hey Harry, can you pull over." said Hermione Granger.
And Harry did. He pulled over into a parking space by a random building. Hermione pulled out a map and took a look at it.
She double checked several times.
"Harry, as far as I know this town is not supposed to be on the map."
"So, what do you think?" asked Ron Weasley.
"I don't know." said Hermione. "But I guess this is why we are here. We have to check this out."
"But why are we here?" asked Ron Weasley. "Doesn't the Magical Congress of America have their own agents to investigate this."
"It was explained to you, Ron." said Hermione. "This is an exchange program between the Magical Congress of America and the British Ministry of magic. So, yes they could have sent their own agents but since we were selected for the program and are here now we have been selected for this."
Hermione then waved her wand. And a wavy Rippling effect appeared in the air around the wand.
"Yes, there is definitely Magic here. Everywhere." said Hermione. "But it's strange? It's like no magic I've seen before. It's almost like Magic on a different frequency. It's not our wizard magic, nor is it Elf Magic, nor any other magical creature on this world."
"Let's investigate." said Harry
They got out of the car.
They looked around, and barely got half a block when they were greeted by a man walking a Dalmatian.
"Hello." the man greeted kindly. "I don't think I've seen you around here before."
"Oh," said Harry, "we just got into town."
"Well, welcome to Storybrooke. I'm Archie. This is my dog Pongo."
"Pongo the dalmatian. Isn't that a little unoriginal."
"I don't understand." said archie.
"From the movie 101 Dalmatians. The main character Roger, his dog, was a Dalmatian named Pongo."
He paused to think about it for a second.
"You know what, until you mentioned it just now it never really occurred to me."
"So, you've never seen the movie?" asked Hermione.
"No, I've seen the movie. I just never really thought of it."
"We are seeking shelter for the night, or multiple nights." said Harry Potter. "Is there a place to stay?"
"There's an inn called Granny's." said Archie, "just three blocks down."
"Thank you." said Harry.
"Your accent?" said Archie with curiosity. "Australian?"
"British actually." said Harry. "We are here on?…business."
"Well, hope you enjoy Storybrooke."
"By the way, I'm Harry, Harry Potter. These are my friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley."
"Nice to meet you." said Archie.
Everyone shook hands. Archie was then on his way.
"Well, let's find this inn to seek lodging in and then we will find out what is going on here."
It was then that there was an ambulance with a siren blaring down the street.
All of a sudden, some kind of tingling sensation was in his scar. But he immediately knew that it was not Voldemort. Though the scar always had the connection between the two of them and the connection was permanently broken after Voldemort's death Harry felt some kind of sixth sense. Harry didn't know what it was but he just had this feeling that he needed to investigate the ambulance, but a little bit more covertly.
"Guys, go rent us our rooms. I need to check something out."
He reached into the car and pulled out his invisibility cloak which he then flung over himself and he disappeared.
Under the cloak he followed the ambulance to the hospital that was nearby. When he got there there was a young boy who was rushed out on a stretcher on wheels followed by a blonde woman.
He followed them inside where he was led into an emergency medical area.
He stepped into a corner where no one would bump into him where he watched and listened to the conversation.
"Henry, can you hear me? Come on Henry!" said a blonde woman in a red leather jacket with a police badge on her belt. "Wake up, please! Come on, Henry! Come on! You can do it!"
"Ma'am, let me take you to," said one of the nurses.
"No! I'm not going anywhere!" said the blonde woman with authority. "Henry!?"
"Dr. Whale," said the woman with extreme urgency, "what is wrong with him!"
"Sheriff Swan, there's no pupil response." said the doctor who went by the name of Dr. Whale, who shone a flashlight in his eyes. "Did he fall, hit his head? As far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with him other than the fact that he's unconscious."
She then held up a Ziploc bag with an apple turnover in it that had one bite out of it.
"He ate this. I think it's poisoned." said the sheriff with urgency. "I need you to test this for poison. He bit out of it and then he felt to the ground after he told me that it was poisoned and I didn't believe him!"
"His Airway is clear." said Dr. Whale. "Did he vomit? Any convulsion or disorientation?"
"He took a bite of this then he just collapsed, so run the tests for arsenic or bleach or Drano or whatever could have done this to him!"
"Okay, look I can test it but as far as I know there's nothing wrong with him there's no sign that he ingested poison." said the doctor. "The boy is showing no symptoms that would suggest neurotoxins, so whatever is going on this is not the culprit!"
"Well what else could it be?" asked the sheriff. "But it's going to be okay, right?"
"I don't know, that's what I'm going to find out. Right now we just need to stabilize him, because he is slipping away."
"Then do something!" Demanded the sheriff.
Harry Potter watched as she then retreated to an empty hospital bed and upended a backpack full of stuff.
The backpack contains some comic books, some candy and a very large story book. Looked like something that Hermione would have read.
"I can't do anything for him, Miss Swan," said Dr. Whale. " I understand your frustration, but I can't treat him until I have something to treat. It seems almost as though it's…? It's…?"
The doctor was in a state of confusion as though trying to find the right words.
But as she looked at the large story book that had the title, 'Once Upon a time', she paused, and then she seemed to think for a moment.
"It's like magic?" said the Sheriff.
That really got Harry's attention as that was not something that a muggle would say so openly.
He watched as she picked up the book and then she gasped and her eyes went wide as though something had shocked her.
When the shock had passed she was breathing hard with a clearer but strong determined look on her face of clarity.
It was then that a brunette woman with an authoritative face and formal attire stepped into the room looking very distressed as she saw the boy on the hospital bed.
"Where's my son!" asked the brunette woman.
The blonde Sheriff then turned to her with a look of anger.
"You! You did this!" The sheriff then grabbed the woman and pulled her into another room.
Under the invisibility cloak Harry followed them.
"What happened?" asked the brunette woman.
"Henry took a bite of the apple turnover that you gave me and he fell to the ground unconscious!" said Sheriff Swan.
"No!" said the Brunette woman with despair. "It wasn't meant for him, it was meant for you!"
Okay, thought Harry, clearly there was more to this situation than he immediately understood. Obviously as Harry had just arrived in the middle of this it was out of context for him. The brunette woman had given Sheriff Swan a poisoned turnover?
"It's true isn't it, Regina!" said the sheriff with determination.
"What?" answered the brunette woman named Regina, playing dumb.
"It's true isn't it?!" asked the sheriff one more time. "All of it?! Are you 'The Evil Queen' from the Fairy Tail story 'Snow White'?!" the sheriff demanded loudly and angrily as she pinned Regina up against a locker by the neck with her arm.
What in the world? Harry thought to himself. That does not make any sense. This well dressed business woman is being accused of being a story book character. Harry had seen a lot of things since Hagrid plucked him from the reality world of the Dursleys on his eleventh birthday and was told and shown that magic and Wizards were real. But this was crazy!
With a sad look and tears in her eyes, then Regina relaxed her head in surrender and resignation.
"Yes." she answered.
She admits it? Thought Harry.
"I was leaving town. Why couldn't you have just left things alone?"
"Because as long as you were alive Henry would never be mine."
Harry wasn't 100% positive of what was going on here, but his best guess was that this was some kind of child custody dispute.
"He will never be anyone's unless you fix this!" said the sheriff. "Now wake him up!"
"I can't!" shouted Regina with despair.
"Don't you have magic?" asked the sheriff.
Good question? Thought Harry. Was this woman a witch?
"That was the last of it." answered Regina. "It wasn't meant for him, it was supposed to put you to sleep!"
"What's it going to do to him?"
"I don't know. Magic is unpredictable here. And even if I did still have my magic it wouldn't do any good; once the sleeping spell is put on someone it can't be undone, except by true love's kiss. And Henry doesn't have a romantic partner."
"So, he could…?" said the sheriff with a horrified look of despair.
"Yes." said Regina, equally horrified at the idea of the thing.
Harry too was horrified. He hadn't been in this town for 55 minutes and this stuff was going on? The Magical Congress of America was right to suspect something.
"So what do we do?" asked the sheriff.
"We need help." said Regina.
Harry's heart filled to the brim with compassion for the boy and what seemed to be two helpless mothers who now just wanted to help the boy, he went against all of his training to protect the International Statute of Secrecy and reveal himself. (If worse came to worse, he could always modify their memories.)
"Maybe I can help." said Harry.
He took off the invisibility cloak.
The two women were shocked by the mysterious materialization of The Stranger.
Sheriff Swan quickly pulled a 9 mm sidearm, but Harry had already activated an anti-muggle bulletproof charm, and should it be necessary, his signature move of 'Expelliarmus' could cause her weapon to fly out of her hand.
"Who are you?" asked Sheriff Swan.
"Harry Potter. Wizard. At Your Service."
"A wizard?" said Sheriff Swan.
"I don't know you." said Regina with confusion. "You're not a citizen of this town."
"Me and my friends just got into town." Said Harry. "We just came here from Great Britain."
The two women then looked at each other with curious faces at the idea that Outsiders had come into town.
"Why are you here?" asked Regina.
"I'm on a mission from the magical government that I serve. And I would like to try and help your son."
"I thought this was supposed to be a world without magic?" said Regina.
"You were misinformed." said Harry. "This world is full of magic."
"Were you listening to our conversation?" asked Sheriff Swan who still hadn't lowered her weapon.
Harry held up the invisibility cloak.
"Invisibility cloak." he illustrated.
"That's creepy." said Sheriff Swan with disgust.
"That's interesting." said Regina with fascination.
"May I see the child, maybe I can do something about that sleeping poison."
Sheriff Swan lowered her weapon. Harry then extended his hand for a handshake.
"Harry potter." he introduced one more time.
"Regina Mills."
"Emma Swan."
They went back out to the hospital room. Dr Whale was immediately suspicious of this man that came out of the room with them.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" asked Dr. Whale.
Harry pulled out his wand and waved it at the doctor.
"Confundo!"
Dr. Wales eyes went cross-eyed and he began to wobble on his ankles for a minute. Some of the nurses became frightened at this and became fearful. Harry did the same to them.
Harry then told them to leave.
"Is that a mind control spell?" asked Regina, fascinated.
"Less mind control, and more of a mild hypnotic suggestion." explained Harry.
Harry then stood over Henry who was hooked up to monitors with electrodes attached to different parts of his body. A breathing apparatus was over his face.
Harry then waved his wand over the boy's body.
"Specialis Revelio!" Harry said clearly and deliberately.
A dull white glowed over Henry's body. But after a few moments Harry had a look of confusion on his face.
"Well, there is definitely some kind of dark magic in his body. I'm afraid that I might be more inept at this than I initially anticipated. My friend Hermione Granger is more Adept at this kind of stuff."
He looked at Regina.
"Do you have that turnover?"
Emma walked over to the counter and retrieved the ziplock bag.
Harry examined it.
"You said that this was poisoned?"
"Actually," said Regina, "it's not technically poison. It's a spell. It's actually the same sleeping spell that Maleficent used on, Sleeping Beauty."
"Really?" said Harry, part fascination and part skepticism. "I'm going to try a standard 'undo spell'."
He breathed, focused and concentrated.
"Finite Incantatem!"
Another light glowed from his wand over the boy's body but still nothing.
Long story short he tried a variety of spells that would wake a person up from a sleep or undo a curse. None of them worked.
"I'm going to need help." said Harry.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small 5 inch by 3 inch framed mirror.
Harry held the mirror up to his face where he then saw his own reflection.
"Hermione Granger." he said in a loud clear deliberate voice.
A few moments later, his face was replaced with Hermione's face.
"Harry, what's going on?" said Hermione. But Hermione saw Regina and Emma in the background. "Oh, you've got company?"
"It's all right, you can talk freely in front of them. I need your help. Can you apparate to my location?"
With a loud "Crack!", Ron and Hermione materialized out of thin air in the room.
Regina was fascinated, while for Emma other than the wand waving and a little light that came out of the wand, this was the most extraordinary display of Supernatural power she had ever seen and was a little bit more shocked.
"Hermione Ron, Regina and Emma." Harry introduced. "Regina Emma, my friends Hermione and Ron."
"Are they Wizards too?" asked Emma.
"I prefer the term 'witch'." said Hermione.
"Witch has a negative connotation." Said Emma. "Would it be all right if I used the term 'sorceress'?"
Hermione paused for a second.
'Sure." she allowed.
"Long story short." said Harry. "Let me explain."
And very quickly he told them everything about the curse that Henry was under and that apparently Regina was The Evil Queen from the Fairy Tail story of Snow White, except that it's true and real. Though his explanation had a lot of holes in it as he did not actually have all of the information.
"I'm going to need more information before I can help." said Hermione.
"And I'm not actually familiar with the story of Snow White." said Ron, a little confused.
"Tell it to you later." said Hermione. "Regina, I'm going to need a more thorough explanation of what's going on here if we're going to help your son."
Regina sighed with resignation.
"Myself and everyone else in this town are storybook characters from what your world's scientific theoretical physicists would call an 'alternate universe'. It is a world practically made of magic. We call it The Enchanted Forest.
"I fell in love with a stable boy named Daniel. One day I met Snow White. Long story short she betrayed a confidence that resulted in my Daniel's death. After that I became bitter. I resented her to this day. It festered inside me to the point where I wanted revenge. I wanted everyone to suffer. Because I couldn't have my happy ending I wanted no one else to have theirs. So I enacted a curse that transported everyone from the Enchanted Forest to here, transformed them into modern-day American citizens and turned their home here into a modern-day American town. They can never leave the town. They have no memories of their past lives, and have new identities. Every day is monotonously the same. And I am the Mayor. I adopted Emma's son 10 years ago right after she gave birth to him to fill an emotional hole in my heart. And I love Henry with all my heart. And I became jealous when Emma showed up and I just wanted her gone. And now this happened. I extracted The Poisoned Apple that Snow White bit out of in the Enchanted Forest in the past and brought it into the present. I made the turnover and then my intention was that Emma would eat it. I had no idea that Henry would show up at her place and take a bite out of it first."
"And if I may say Regina," said Emma with anger and frustration. "Had you just let me go as I said I was leaving town this could have so easily been avoided!"
"I know." said Regina with a look of despair on her face. "But what's done is done. Now we just need to save him."
"But you said you can't, except with true love's kiss."
"I seriously doubt that he has a girlfriend at 10 years old." said Ron.
"Let me see what I can do." said Hermione.
She waved her wand and started using all of the same spells that Harry had used nonverbally.
Her eyes were closed in concentration.
Her face showed confusion.
"I can't wake him up." She said. "Let me see that apple turnover."
The ziplock bag was handed to her. She waved her Wand Over It and a bright light was emitted over the ziplock bag.
"Okay," said Hermione disgust, "I don't know who created this curse, but whoever did was very evil and maniacal."
"So that's it?" said Emma. "He's doomed?!"
She had a sad look on her face and tears pouring down her eyes.
"There might be one other person in this town who can help us." said Regina. "One other person who knows what's going on and who knows about magic."
"Who?" asked Harry.
"Mr. Gold." said Emma.
"Actually," said Regina, "he goes by the name of 'Rumpelstiltskin'."
Both Harry and Hermione looked at each other with disgusted disbelieving faces.
Ron had a look of confusion as not quite knowing what the significance of the name was.
