Oliver continually had to give information on how the vile came into his hands. Which he had to explain
that he didn't know. Though he did tell them that we did go to see what the village looked like from afar
but never went into the village out of fear. This morning, I was woken up by mom telling me some
government officials or at least looked like government officials were at the door asking for me.
"You asked for me," I said as I greeted the officials at my front door.
"Let's talk at the police station, shall we?" the leader of the group said.
"Sure," I responded, heading out the door while saying goodbye to my mom. It was a short walk to the
police station. I always knew which path was the fastest but by now they all went by quickly in my head.
Though this time it felt slower as I was surrounded by three so-called officials. "Are the others already
there?" I asked. I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one being brought to the station.
"Yes," was the monotone reply from the guy in front of me. Looking at their faces, they don't so many
emotions. They either been through a lot or are annoyed they had to be here. Though I am glad I am not
only one being brought to the station. Then again, I rather be in the mines, finding out how far they
really go then be interrogated. I hope the others would rather do that as well.
The station was half lit up. Some of the other officers were sent home early. It must be something that
couldn't be talked about around them. How confidential is it? To confidential that the government must
get involved? I guess I'll find out soon.
"Got her," the guy announces once we entered the building.
"Good, bring her to the others," the other one responded.
"Are they okay?" I asked, though I think I already know the answer.
"You'll see soon enough," he told me pushing, or what felt pushing, towards the meeting room. Which I
thought was in another building for some reason. I don't know why I came to that conclusion. Must've
be because I never been in there much.
"Hey Eliza," Sophie said once I entered the room. I was the last one to get there. It didn't surprise me
that I was, I probably delayed me getting for a couple minutes by doing something stupid.
"First things first," the guy who must be the leader said once I sat down. That was nice of him. "We are
indeed government workers, though that is all you need to know. Don't ask questions. You don't need
too. Answer when I ask you too. Understood"
"Yes," we all said in unison trying to hide the fact we did not want to be there. They all looked like they
wanted to go home and are going to fall asleep. Though the leader guy looked like his was about to
argue with us if we spoke out of turn. It shut us up at least, for now anyways.
"Did any of you know the person who sent you this?" easy questions were being asked. I thought for
government officials; the questions would induce tears at least.
"No, not personally," we responded with some variation of what Oliver answered.
"What do you mean not personally?" he continued, determined to get an answer.
"We never met the person. I don't even think they even live here," Liam spoke up from the corner he
was sitting.
"Are you sure about that?" he asked some more, still determined.
"If she did live here, we would've met her by now," Sophie said, not scared. Or what she wants us to
see.
"It took us a few years to actually meet," I said. "We have seen each other in passing but never actually
met until we got the job. We would've at least seen her and someone would've at least mentioned her
at one point."
"No one has," added Ezra, laying his head on the table. The leader dud sighed.
"Do you know where the blood came," he said. Easy questions.
"Nope," Ace said. "No idea. That's way Oliver sent it in and reported it in the first place."
"Are you sure you don't know this person," He asked again in desperation.
"Like we said before, we have no idea who this Mother Miranda is," Oliver said. "Plus, it might be some
fake name to cover their tracks. All we know is that this arrived after we went to see the village."
"Where's the village?" He asked, returning to being serious.
"Over that way," I pointed to the direction of the village. I forgot which direction it was; I think I forgot a
while ago.
"Did any of you enter this village?" He continued.
"No," Ace said. "We were just on the hill on the outskirts of the village. It was far enough from the
village we couldn't see the people well nor they could see us."
"Though, we did use binoculars to get a closer look," Liam added. There is no way in the world someone
would have noticed us unless someone was out of the village. It's too out of the ordinary.
"See anything strange," he questioned some more.
"Not really, it just looked really old," Oliver stated. We all just nodded in agreement. This questioning
was entirely strange as well. Something felt off about the people here. What kind of government
officials were they? Maybe they were government officials, but they didn't have the power they wanted
us to think they odd.
"Plus, we don't really want to go there anymore anyways," Ezra, lifting his head off the table, staring
into the eyes of one of the officials. It more like glaring, and he didn't look happy. Made sense right now.
"And you don't have to. You just need to give us answers," he said, sounding like he was about to shout.
A couple of them looked disappointed in us. I don't know the exact reason, but it is because we didn't
say what they wanted us to say. Or something along those lines.
"We are," responded Oliver matching his tone. He should up right after saying. "We are doing our best
to tell you what we know. Anyone here barely knows anything about the village we visited. You see a bit
of it from here, but you drive awhile to get there. It's abandoned. And whoever sent this must've visited
around the same time we did!"
"Is it really," questioned the leader.
"Yes, and if there were people there, they are gone now," I agreed with Oliver. The people who we saw
probably just visited and were just larping. It isn't hard to believe. The thing is, the castle is, to my
surprise, is somehow well under the radar to my knowledge. It probably could be seen on google maps
though. Something about it seems off and it feels creepy.
"We'll check ourselves, but we'll check on you bunch in a few months," he told us, packing up our
things.
"Alright," a couple of us spoke in response. They all left the room one by one leaving us in the room by
ourselves. That was a strange interaction. Was the package intercepted by them when it was sent for
testing? It must've been, there's no other way. Is there?
"That was weird," Liam spoke once we exited the police station. It was followed by sighs and grunts.
"Do you think they were government officials?" I asked.
"Probably," answered Oliver. "They probably wanted to downplay their jobs though. I am not entirely
sure though."
"I mean it would make sense, or it was their job," Ace added, walking beside Liam and Ezra. They
nodded in agreement. We were all aware how strange they were acting apart from the job they were
doing. We'll see how they change when they check on us in a few months. Though I don't they will
change their demeanor that much. The matter seems too concerning for them to be happy when they
do check up on us.
November 8
th
, a few months later
They looked so happy for government officials potentially working on a horrific case. It's a creepy look.
"What is going on?" Oliver asked once the officers were all escorted out of the building.
"Good news," the bossman said, somewhat ignoring Oliver. "We found out who the blood belonged
too."
"That's good," I said, "their family will get closer, if they are still around."
"Bad news," he continued, "there is a roadblock. And you bunch will no longer be a part of this case. In
is officially in the hands of the government."
"I didn't know it was in our hands in the first place," Ezra added. It would be hard if it was as 5 out of 6
were still in school and we all had other things as well. in all. We all made some audible noise in
agreement. Bossman looked like he was disappointed in his men.
"I mean, darn," Sophie said breaking the silence. Bossman looked like he wanted to chuckle but quickly
returned to a serious look. It made us all break into laughter. The other officials looked like they were
about to join us but stayed serious. Probably because they wanted to keep their jobs. I mean it makes
sense that they didn't want to get fired from wherever they worked. I don't think I want to look at the
others right now or I just start laughing. I couldn't handle it if I did it. I almost broke as I notice a note
slide right in front of me. It was from Sophie. She had written her name on it. It probably had something
to do with the current situation.
'This seems like it should be in a sitcom'
I looked at her after reading the note; she stared back and let out a giggle, that was slowly becoming a
laugh. We both couldn't contain our laughter. The bossman stopped talking and looked disappointed in
us for interrupting him. Then again, we didn't we care that much. We were here because they still think
we have important information that could lead them to find the person that sent the letter and vile of
blood to us. They could've sent an email to update us anyways. In our minds we have other things to do
today. Plus, we were taken out of school to be here today. Mid-exam as-well. Not mad, but they
could've chosen another time to take us out of school. I really don't want to redo it or finish it
tomorrow. They seem to not care about other people's problems. Well unless it could cause death.
Which this vile of blood could cause, apparently.
"You all are dismissed," bossman said, once again leaving. Oliver wished them luck in their findings. They
left before us though. Didn't surprise me that much as they were many of them. We needed to stay
behind to see if there was anything else we needed to do. Being excused from school makes it easier to
do some of the things at work if we had any.
"We're going to continue some work in the mines," Oliver informed our higher-ups. "We need to check-
up on its status."
"Isn't it the same?" the officer asked.
"Things can change," Sophie added. It's been a couple of weeks since we been in the mines, delaying
any progress to restore it. Though with the tunnels we found beforehand sent a pretty clear message
that something else got there in the years it was closed off to the world. In the months we used to
create a new map of the place, there are creatures that might hide from us. The entire group knows
there are things hiding in the mines. They are hiding from us. We heard them before, except for the
women we encountered once. Which is a mystery in itself.
"Make it quick. You bunch have other opportunities to resume working on the mines," the officer told
us. It is taking longer than we expected to restore then mine and map it. Though I think it does take
years for the process. Maybe we're just under-qualified for the job. It wouldn't be the first time we had
the thought. It never is. It will never change. We left quick, hoping he would change his mind. Our gas
mask stayed in a box by the entrance of the mine. It was quite well and could only open by any of our
key-cards. I only found out recently that our higher-ups are able to find out whether or not we have
entered the mine and gotten our stuff. Which still creeps me out a bit.
"Hurry," Liam said, almost on the verge of yelling. He didn't, the mines, surprisingly, has an echo.
Though it didn't matter much as I could hear the tiniest echo ahead. "Could you be any slower?"
"It's not my fault your impatient," Ace responded, quickly stepping into the elevator. The elevator was
slowly fixed over the past few months as we were getting sick of the squeaking. Since it was fixed, the
ride down felt quicker. Plus, it isn't rusty anymore. The first thing that we see now when we get down is
the new map of what we believe is the mine. The old map is in a case underneath. We haven't decided
whether or not to send it to our small museum. The other thing we mapped is hanging right in the little
cave area with the lake. I don't know why we decided on that placement but it seemed like we could sit
on the other side of the lake and contemplate why and what they were for. Until a couple weeks ago, I
was there often enough to think of a couple of reasons of why they exist.
"You aren't going there, you coming into the tunnels with us," Oliver snatched my arm as I began
walking towards the little cave.
"But I wanna," I complained, sounding a bit like a toddler as I said it.
"No complaining," Oliver retorted, now pushing me in the direction of the entrance of where the mines
actually begin.
"It's never going to end though, we'll always map the mines," I said and Sophie mumbled something in
agreement.
"It'll have to end at some point. The faster we map it, the sooner it will be over with," Liam chimed in,
smiling. He seemed too happy. Sophie and I looked at each other again, both with concern about Liam's
sudden burst of happiness. We might have just ignored when we were heading down here. That is a
logical explanation. "Why are looking at me like that?"
"You seemed too happy for a second," I said, "I could be wrong and thought something was off. Could
be wrong."
"I'm just glad that we have a good chance that we don't have to talk to them again," he blurted out
quickly.
"Absolutely," Sophie agreed, high fiving Liam. Too us, it was a given fact that we'd never see them again.
Though there was a good chance that they would come back but who knows. We all burst into laughter,
though I don't think we really recovered from the last time. It ended quickly as a loud thump echoed
throughout the tunnel. It was quickly followed by a weird growling noise.
"What is that?" one of said as a silhouette appeared in front of us.
