AN: as a fan of both the Rooster Teeth Show RWBY and Power Rangers I was a bit disheartened to learn this year that both of them might not be returning (although VIZ picked up RWBY so it might not be over yet). so I got to thinking: Justice League crossed over with RWBY and Power Rangers, so what would happen if Power Rangers crossed over with RWBY? after months of notes, ideas, and writers block on these first few chapters (and some later ones) I stumbled across the suno AI and created a theme song then it kind of spiraled out of control and I made a bunch of songs based on the idea for this fanfic. now I'm finally writing it down with the details that I had to leave out of the songs.
So now I finally get to say:
Welcome to The World with a New Solution
Chapter 1
The Point Where It Breaks part 1
Jaune Arc, Student of Beacon Academy, Huntsman of Remnant, and the most popular crossing guard the city of Atlas has ever seen, was currently falling through a seemingly endless void.
Did we fail?
Jaune had been falling for a while and in that time figured Cinder had to have used the Relic of Creation to make the 'bridge' disappear. which would also mean Salem has two of the four Relics.
was it even worth it? Penny...
The Winter Maiden Penny Polendina, previously an Android now made human by the Relic of Creation, was grievously injured in her fight against the Fall Maiden Cinder. While Jaune's fellow Huntress Weiss Schnee fought Cinder, Penny stopped him from joining the fight to make her final request. She asked him to kill her.
In doing so, her power would go to the next female she could concentrate her thoughts on. If Cinder got ahold of her, the power she already has would double...probably. to be honest no one knew exactly how that would work however Penny had guided his hand that still griped his sword to her heart and whispered to him "Let me choose this one thing, Trust me"
it's my fault...it's my fault...it's...NO!
he shook his head to clear it
no I can't think about that now! FOCUS!
he spun himself in mid air or rather 'down'. it might have been a void but the force of gravity pulling him down somewhere. he just had to...wait what is that?
there was something further in front of him that was red that took him a moment to recognize.
Ruby's scythe!
he angled his fall and outstretched his arm in an attempt to reach it.
come on, almost got it
closer and closer until finally managing to grab it.
YES GOT IT!
after that moment of brief celebration, is when everything changed. while he was keeping Ruby's scythe, Crescent Rose, close to him it was as if gravity suddenly shifted to his left. the sudden shift in a different direction should have knocked him out, although it probably did as he could have sworn that after one blink he was falling through a cloud-ridden sky.
he was surrounded by a weird energy as he fell towards a city below. it wasn't his Aura but it felt almost similar. he tried activating his own aura and nothing happened.
is it not recharged yet? he thought. he tried his shield next in an attempt to slow his descent, still nothing happened.
oh...that's not good
as he reoriented himself he caught sight of something that instantly made his blood run cold, there was a very large flying dark shadow with glowing red eyes coming out of the clouds heading straight towards him.
aaaand that's even worse!
before whatever was flying towards him actually reached him, what looked like a flying red ship with sails and a giant sword on the front, rammed the shadow in its side causing it to roar definingly.
The roar sent shockwaves through the air, buffeting Jaune and altering his trajectory. He tumbled uncontrollably, still clutching Crescent Rose tightly. As he spun, he caught glimpses of the battle unfolding above him - the flying ship engaging in aerial combat with what he now recognized as a massive Dragon Grimm.
why are there Grimm here?! Jaune thought as he plummeted towards the unfamiliar cityscape below.
The wind whipped past him, and he could hear the distant sounds of chaos - explosions, screams, and the unmistakable roars of more Grimm. This wasn't just one oversized Grimm; it was a full-scale invasion.
Jaune's mind raced. He had no aura, no working weapons, and was falling to the ground with seemingly no way to stop while being surrounded by a weird energy. even though he was a Huntsman, with the instincts to think on his feet, or in this case, while plummeting through the air, there didn't seem to be any options to slow himself down.
wait...what's happening?
it was as if his aura was trying to come back, turning on and off again out of desperation.
he was about to hit the ground.
well I'm about to find out if this works!
Just before he hit the ground he concentrated fully on his aura, it flared up just before the moment of impact!
it felt like the wind was knocked out of him and it was as if every bone in his body was rattled but he was alive and curled up in a ball at the bottom of the crater he made.
I can't believe that actually worked!
Then he started to move in an attempt to climb out of the crater and immediately regretted it.
ow ow OW...yeah i should've expected that...still need to get out of here though.
against the protests of his own body he started to lift himself up out.
come on Jaune work through the pain! what would Nora say if she were here? probably something like: keep climbing up lazy butt! you can't let something like pain keep you down. keep going and SHOW YOUR PAIN WHO'S BOSS!
he found himself on the ground out of the crater.
that actually worked?!
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF NORA!
he swore he just heard Nora's voice...I might be going insane from this pain.
he managed to climb to his feet to get a look at his surroundings. he was on a city street or rather what was once a city. he thought Vale looked bad after their Grimm invasion but this was worse. he could see the signs of where buildings use to be but now they were reduce to rubble. with the buildings that were standing a few of them looked like there were holes in them and a few looked like they were cut by something.
he looked up at the sky, it seemed dark, not just thick with smoke but something else. he couldn't quite place what it was but when he looked at the sky it was as if there was something 'unnatural'.
he could hear the screeching of Nevermores of in the distance as well as the sounds of a massive battle. He stumbled forward, his hand instinctively reaching for his broken sword due to the noise. he almost relaxed but a pack of Grimm had appeared from behind a building ahead. it was a group of Beowolves and an unknown humanoid Grimm. standing upright two arms and legs but still the same black 'fur' and bone armor.
move it or they'll see you...too late!
the unusual thing was they didn't charge at him right away. while they still growled they spread out with what looked like some sort of combat formation while slowly approaching him.
are they...using tactics?!
he recognized what they were doing right away as he slowly backed up.
those humanoid Grimm are taking positions to attack me from the side while the Beowolves will charge at me.
he then remembered he was still carrying Crescent Rose. after a quick check to make sure there was still ammo in the clip he aimed it at the humanoid Grimm on his left side and pulled the trigger.
*click*
OH COME ON!
"Rangers! Fire!" a familiar voice shouted from behind him. Jaune's eyes widened in disbelief as he recognized Yang's distinctive tone, but there was something different about it - harder, more commanding. The colorful beams of light flew past him striking the Grimm and disintegrating them in an instant but more Beowolves and the unknown humanoid figures rounded a corner. Jaune watched in awe as a group of colorful warriors charged forwards and battled the Grimm, their movements fluid and synchronized.
wow and I thought huntsmen and huntresses were colorful.
"Jaune?" Yang's voice was coming from a figure in gold and black with a helmet and visor in a vague shape of a dragon obscuring her face as she approached . "You're...you're finally here!"
she pulled him into a hug "It worked! It actually worked!" with the way she was hugging him, while he was also happy to see her...
"ow Yang, ow still sore from ow landing!"
"Oh, right! Sorry!" Yang quickly released him, her body language showing excitement and concern. "Are you okay?"
Before Jaune could answer, another voice called out, "Yang! We need to move! More Grimm incoming!"
Jaune turned to see a man in blue and white outfit, his helmet reminiscent of some sort of animal. while Jaune couldn't see the man's eyes through the helmet he could still tell he was staring at him. "Is that...?"
"Yeah, Billy. It's him," Yang confirmed, her voice filled with a mix of relief and urgency.
Billy nodded "We need to get him to safety. The timeline's already changing."
Jaune's head was spinning. "Timeline? Yang, what's going on? Where are we? And why are you dressed like... that?" He gestured to her Gold and black armor, at least he assumed it was some kind of armor, it was so different from her usual attire.
Yang grabbed Jaune's arm, pulling him along as they started moving. "No time to explain everything now but We're in a place called Angel Grove on the planet Earth, or what's left of it. This is the future, Jaune - a future we're trying to prevent for the sake of both our worlds."
As they ran, Jaune saw more of the devastation around them. Buildings reduced to rubble, and strange mechanical parts littering the streets. In the distance, he could see massive Grimm battling what looked like giant robots.
"Both our worlds?" Jaune panted, struggling to keep up with Yang's pace.
Billy chimed in, "Your world and ours started to merged somehow. We think Salem found a way to bridge the dimensions. It's been... catastrophic."
They rounded a corner, narrowly avoiding a swarm of Nevermores that screeched overhead. Yang pulled Jaune into a hidden entrance of of what appeared to be an underground bunker. they descended deep underground, and Jaune's eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, revealing a long hallway as they traversed the hallway Jaune's mind raced with questions.
"Yang, you said this is the future? How far in the future are we talking?"
"well, what was the last thing you were doing before you were brought here?" she asked
"falling through a void after we evacuated Atlas. the Bridge had dissipated just before I reached the exit"
while she was still wearing her helmet so he couldn't see her face, but the brief pause in her step indicated her surprise "then it should be just a few years from that time, Jaune. A lot has changed."
they finally reached the end of the hallway and stood in front of a set of double doors. the man in blue, Billy, entered a code on a near by keypad that gave off weird sounding beeps more like tones of music. after his code was accepted he walked right up to the door and walked through it without the doors even opening.
"what just..." Yang pulled Jaune through before he finished asking his question.
on the other side was a large, dimly lit chamber filled with advanced technology Jaune had never seen before. there was a crowd of People in various states of injury that were being tended to by medics. Some wore burned and tattered versions of the colorful suits he had seen outside.
"Welcome to our last stronghold," Yang said grimly as she removed her helmet, revealing her tired eyes and a scar across her cheek that Jaune didn't remember her having. she was noticeably older but he would never say that to her out loud.
Billy approached a central console, his fingers flying across holographic and touch screen displays. "We don't have much time. The temporal anomaly that brought you here will have alerted Salem's forces. Miss Morgan?" a woman with dark brown hair, glasses, and wearing a purple combat suit approached from the crowd. "are the rest of the evacuees ready?"
"yes. we've been trying to get the severely injured prepped so we can move them trough the portal to treat them on the other side." she responded
Billy nodded in acknowledgment "good, one more thing" he bent down and pulled a data stick out of the console "go through with them and plug this into the console on your side, it will give you a program that will allow your console to transmit a signal to close the portal. once everyone else gets through, don't wait for me just activate the program and 'lock the door' "
Miss Morgan nodded grimly, taking the data stick. "Understood."
"I'll stay behind to ensure everyone gets through and hold off any pursuers," Billy replied, his tone leaving no room for argument. She turned to leave but then turned back to face Billy for what she knew would be the last time "Mr. Cranston, i would just like to say: It's been an honor working with you"
Billy looked at her from the console "it's been an honor to work alongside Rangers like yourself Miss Morgan."
She nodded in acknowledgment, put on her helmet and began coordinating the evacuation of the injured through a shimmering portal at the far end of the chamber.
Jaune watched in bewilderment as people started filing through the portal. "Yang, what's going on? Where are they going?"
Yang placed a hand on his shoulder. "To another dimension, Jaune. One of the few safe havens we have left. i think the team that protects it is called Dino Charge. But that's not important right now. right now we've got to get you to the Time Machine."
Billy approached them handing a keycard to Yang "you'll need this to get into the Hanger."
then he added "it's not to late to change your mind Yang"
but Yang was resolute "no, I'm staying too. We need to buy them as much time as possible."
Jaune's head was spinning for taking in everything that's been happening as he was lead down a new hallway. though that could have been from the now dull soreness. "Yang, What happened to the others? Where's Ruby? Weiss? Blake?"
Yang had a sullen look on her face as she answered "I'm sorry Jaune, Weiss and...Blake died years ago. Ruby...I don't know what happened to her. The Power Rangers helped me find them by finding anomalies like our own, but by the time we found them it was already too late. when I tried to find Ruby she ended up in a different universe in a city they called Corinth. by the time we got there, it was all decimated by the Grimm but we never found her body. I had thought she had been eaten by a Grimm but Billy thinks she was captured."
Before Jaune could ask more questions, alarms began blaring throughout the stronghold. Red lights flashed everywhere.
"They're here," Yang said grimly. "We need to move, now!"
They sprinted down the hallway, the sound of distant explosions growing louder. Yang swiped the keycard at a massive reinforced door, which slid open to reveal a hangar filled with various vehicles and mechs but most seemed to be broken. they approached a single, sleek vehicle that looked like a cross between a car and a small spaceship.
"This is a prototype time machine," Yang explained hurriedly as she ushered Jaune inside. "It's set to take you back to just before Salem found a way to bridge our worlds. it will be your mission to stop her, Jaune."
Jaune's mind reeled as he tried to process everything. "But how? I don't..."
she handed him a device, her scroll. "You need to go back and warn us. Find us, find the Rangers, stop Salem before she merges our worlds!"
"come with me" Jaune pleaded as he reluctantly climbed into the ship "it looks like there's enough room in here"
Yang's eyes met his, a sad smile on her face. "My job is to make sure you get there safely. This is our last chance to change everything. flip the switch on the right side to 'on' then hit the green button on your left. the time machine will take a few minuets to charge up but when it does hit the big red button. the black lever on your right will close and open the canopy."
" wait that's it?" Jaune asked
"yeah, why?"
"I just thought it would be more complicated then that"
Yang chuckled despite the dire situation. "Yeah, well, Billy designed it to be user-friendly. Even I could figure it out." a brief flicker of her old self shining through. "Sometimes the simple solution is best"
Jaune managed a weak smile, but it quickly faded as the gravity of the situation . "Yang, I... I don't know if I can do this. What if I mess up? What if I make things worse?"
Yang gripped his shoulder tightly. "Jaune, listen to me. despite everything that has happened, You've grown so much since Beacon. You're not the same scared kid who faked his way in anymore. You're a leader, a protector."
The ground shook violently, and the sound of battle grew closer. Yang's head snapped towards the entrance, her expression hardening. she stepped away from the ship towards the hanger entrance and turned back to him, her expression softening for a moment. "you can do this, Huntsman of Remnant!" She put her helmet back on and faced the Hanger doors.
Jaune flipped the switch and pressed the green button. The time machine hummed to life, lights flashing across its control panel. Jaune's heart raced as the time machine powered up and started to lift off the floor. he grabbed the seatbelt next to him to strap himself in, adjusting his sitting posture slightly as Crescent Rose was still strapped to his back. Through the cockpit, he could see Yang standing guard at the hangar entrance, her posture tense and ready for battle. The sounds of combat grew louder, then The doors exploded outward, and a horde of Grimm poured through the opening. Among them were creatures Jaune had never seen before - twisted amalgamations of Grimm and what looked like robotic parts. Yang charged forward, her suit and fists blazing with golden energy as she engaged the enemies. Jaune watched in awe as she fought with a ferocity he had never seen before, each punch and kick decimating Grimm after Grimm.
"Come on time machine charge up faster!" the hum was getting louder and the ship was rising higher.
Jaune's heart raced as he helplessly watched Yang battle the horde of Grimm. Her movements looked like a blur of gold and fire, he could have sworn he saw an ethereal golden dragon appear, taking down multiple enemies. But for every Grimm she destroyed, two more seemed to take its place.
As Jaune watched Yang battle the horde of Grimm, when a high pitch voice rang out from the battered door "STOP" they suddenly stopped and backed off, clearing a path for a small figure in a dark concealing hooded robe who emerged from the smoke and debris.
His blood ran cold "no..."
the small hooded figure lifted up her head just enough to reveal her face, it was unmistakably, Ruby Rose.
Jaune's heart shattered at the sight of his corrupted friend. Ruby's once-silver eyes now glowed an eerie red, her skin pale as death, The innocent smile he remembered was twisted into a cruel, unnatural grin.
"Ruby..." he whispered, his voice barely audible over the humming of the time machine.
"Hello, sis," Ruby's voice was eerily cheerful, a stark contrast to the destruction around her. "Did you miss me?"
Yang's stance faltered for a moment, her voice cracking as she spoke. "Ruby... what did she do to you?"
Ruby giggled, the sound sending chills down Jaune's spine. "Oh, Yang. Salem showed me the truth. The futility of hope, the beauty of despair. And now, I'm here to share it with you. Why don't you join us? We could be a family again."
"You're not my sister, you're just a Grimm using her body like a puppet" Yang growled, her voice thick with grief and anger.
with an overly dramatic sigh, 'Ruby' responded with "oh, if only it were that simple"
With inhuman speed, Ruby charged at Yang, her weapons both Yang and Jaune recognized as Tyrian's wrist blade claws, Yang barely had time to block the attack.
The time machine's humming reached a fever pitch as Jaune watched the horrifying scene unfold before him. Yang and the corrupted Ruby clashed in a blur of gold and black, their movements almost too fast for his eyes to follow. The sheer power of their impacts was sending shockwaves through the hangar, causing debris to rain down from the ceiling. The Grimm held back, creating a perimeter around the battling sisters.
"Yang!" Jaune shouted, his hand hovering over the red button. He couldn't leave her like this, not against... whatever Ruby had become.
As if sensing his hesitation, Yang shouted over her shoulder between blocks and counterattacks, "Go, Jaune! go now!"
with one quick movement 'Ruby' took the opportunity to mortally wound Yang who fell to the cold floor of the hanger as her helmet dissipated.
'Ruby' cackled while looking up flying time machine, her voice distorted and unnatural. "oh so it IS you in there 'vomit boy'. Yes, Jaune! Run away you useless Knight! we've already won and there is NOTHING you can do to change the past"
despite bleeding out, Yang Xiao Long, The Battle-worn Golden Dragon, was laughing, which surprised 'Ruby'
"wait what are you laughing at? you're dying."
Yang with her last breath responded with "that was a very poor choice of words"
Jaune, despite everything, felt a new sense of resolve, to stop all of this from ever happening, slammed his fist on the red button. The time machine's engines roared to life, a swirling vortex of energy beginning to form around it. As the vortex of energy engulfed the time machine, Jaune caught one last glimpse of Yang's face. Despite her injuries, she managed a small, proud smile before her eyes closed. 'Ruby' let out an inhuman shriek of rage as the machine lurched forward as a vortex enveloped the time machine completely, plunging Jaune into a kaleidoscope of swirling colors and distorted sounds.
he didn't hear the sound of something attaching itself to the ship.
