Prologue
Cosmok13: Konchiwa fellow Otakus! Okay, okay, I know what you all are thinking. 'Really Cosmo? Another fanfiction?! Shouldn't you focus on finishing the ones you have before starting a new one?' I can't help it! I know I have a problem, but at least I am brave enough to admit it. Besides, with it being fall, I figured a good fashioned horror-esqued story was needed. So as you all know Resident Evil Village came out almost half a year ago, and I did end up watching it, and I did love it! The story and the characters were interesting, even if it seemed lack-luster towards the end. I won't explain too much else, since I don't want to spoil it and turn this into a review, but let's say it inspired me to watch the other Resident Evil games and I even got an idea to create a DLC based story for this eighth installment in the main game franchise.
Now a few things to address. The main character in this story, Alice Winters, was created not by me, but by my lovely girlfriend GamerArts! Alice is her OC, not mine. Also, fun fact, in the original concept Alice was supposed to have been a survivor of the village and possibly the only one to live through that event. But after a few fan stories I made for Alice with a certain RE8 character, Gamer agreed to have her be related to Ethan instead. Which I think works better story wise. So again, not my character, and I will try to make her as close to how Gamer intended. If I don't, sorry love.
Also, I will try to stick with the original storyline of RE8, but… I mean, it is a fanfiction. And after all, a few rewrites in script and characters could be needed. That's all I'm going to say for now, with that said, let's get into the story!

They say that bad things can happen to good people. I say that is an overstatement. The fact that one would consider the events that befall them as either good or bad is nothing but rubbish. The truth of the matter is that life is a test, to see how much the human body can be pushed both physically, mentally and emotionally. In the end, we are mortal and we have limits. The universe just has a funny way to test our limits, but it is up to us to determine how we use our integrity to get through it. I have seen what such people would be willing to go through just to survive. We can be cruel when the time comes, but such is the need for survival. Only the strong can continue to live, and if you do not prove your strength, you will be greeted by death.
I have met such people in my lifetime. Many of which have faced horrors which could only come from the warped ideas and imagination of troubled and twisted people. One of these people that I had the pleasure to learn about was a certain man in his late 30's. A loving husband and caring father: Ethan Winters. Born in 1984 and is currently 37 years of age. A Caucasian/American male who works as a System Engineer. He isn't much of a character, hardly has any personality if I am to be accurate. Although, he does seem willing to do anything if it means protecting the ones that he loves. Mainly his wife, Mia Winters whom he married in 2011. His newborn child, Rosemary Winters, born August 2020. As well as his little sister.
Alice Winters, born in 1990, just six years after Ethan. The two lived simple lives with their parents: Thomas Winters, their father and Sheryl Winters, their mother. The family of four lived in Racoon City in Arklay County. Their first test as a family was during an outbreak within the city. A dangerous infection known as the T-virus, was created under the pharmaceutical company known as Umbrella, and had leaked into the area. Hundreds of thousands were infected, resulting in their minds being lost, their flesh decaying. One would mistake this sickness as the undead, they may as well have been. One of the infected was Sheryl Winters, who worked at one of the many smaller pharmacies around the city. Only a handful of survivors managed to escape the area before it was destroyed by the government, to prevent further infection rates. Among the survivors were Thomas Winters, and his two children. Ethan was only 14 during that time, while Alice was merely 8.
They had lived out in one of the cabins in the Racoon Forest, until they knew it was safe for them to travel. They had spent nearly ten months out there, during which they tried to survive. Alice started to become ill with a condition of night terrors, most likely from the events of losing her home and mother, not that one could blame her. After nearly a year in isolation, they moved out to California in the countryside, where they lived with Thomas Winters parents. Unfortunately, the father of Ethan and Alice perished only two years after they moved out there, dying from a heart attack in his sleep. Ethan was only 17 at the time, while Alice was 11. The grandparents took care of them for the time being, but the siblings relied on each other for comfort and support. I have seen sibling bonds before, but this one certainly has its history.
Even as the two grew older and lived their separate lives, things would only become much harder for them. Especially for Ethan Winters. Three years ago, he went to Louisiana at an estate that belonged to a family called 'the Bakers'. His mission: to find his wife who disappeared in 2014 in a storm when she was on a cargo ship. In 2017, she sent an email to him, telling the older Winters to go to that state in America, where the horrors awaited him. Mia Winters was being held captive… and being there had done things to her. Her mind was not her own, attacking Ethan like a rabid animal, tearing him apart limb from limb. It turned out that she was infected by a special kind of Mold. The people who lived in that house had also become infected, no longer resembling humans physically or mentally. It turned out that the source of the infection from the Mold came from a bio weapon named Eveline, who resembled a young girl.
Desperate to fix his wife, he searched the house for an antidote so he could snap her out of that state. He fought that family, and treated Mia's symptoms with a serum. He also had to fight that bio weapon, after intense battling and some help from the BSAA, he was able to take Eveline down. Chris Redfield, who had been working in the bio-weapon department for decades, came to Ethan and Mia's rescue. It took some negotiation, but in exchange for Mia's cooperation to rat out the Connections, whom she was working for, she and Ethan would be placed in Protective Services. I have been monitoring them ever since.
As that was happening, Alice had went to college to study in subjects such as chemistry and track and field all while she was working at a diner. After her brother's sudden disappearance, she began to grow worried. So, she headed for Louisiana to locate him. There, she had a run in with the survivors of the Baker incident, as well as the infamous Chris Redfield. Upon discovering the connection between Alice and Ethan, he struck up a deal with her. She would become an employee and work at the BSAA, in exchange, she could see Ethan again and contact him. Of course, she had to go through rigorous training, including survival tactics, self-defense training, gymnastics, stealth, and weaponry. It was a nightmare for Alice, though not on the same level as what her brother had to go through. Even so, she believed it would all be worth it, for last night was to have been the night where the siblings would be reunited after years of little to no contact.
What was supposed to have been a heart-felt long awaited reunion, was cut short due to some complications. And now, it would seem that the Winters siblings are to be thrusted into a hell-scape the likes of which they have never seen. I can only pray for their safety and their health, but surely if they truly wish to save the ones they love, they will persevere through the hardships that will be thrown at them. It would also seem that our paths will be intertwined during this mission. Like a crossroads of destiny, we are to help each other in order to get through this. Well, I will surely be able to accomplish what I need to do.
If all goes well, perhaps the task I set out long ago can finally be brought to a close. Though that will only depend on the success of the Winterses. As regretful as I am to have them be pawns in this game, it is too late for them to turn back. Only their skills and cooperation will be the key to their success and their survival. And my key to finishing what I should have dealt with long ago.
Dr. Anastasia of the BSAA
