ep 29 (w12 ep1) Reach for the Sky (Word count 684)

'instinct control' is canon from the fish Episode.

I did a little science research for some of the animals. (saying which would spoil). this story still will not be the 'educational trip' style story of the show OK. this is likely a one time thing. this is a soap opera story and for goodness sake's I do not want to have to research science concepts and try to fit enough for a 2 time a week show. but it give something for the other characters to do instead of look 'useless' making it worthwhile in this case. enjoy.

Ralphie decided to give it a go but how Will they go to communicate. they had no radio. he asks Phoebe how they communicate with him. (find a cooler way of saying that) phoebe said we have just been loudly speaking at her with Wanda confirming by answering yeah we have just been hollering, what at it. he says just double checking before he follows the advice and shouts out to Janet are you up there at that she gives the bus Horn noise 3 times. (I think there is a name for this I cannot remember right now) after a few moment of hesitation due to pride and not wanting to draw attention to the whole mess up. they hear the three horns honked.

he then says to steer down and pull the lever at the ground. at that Janet was thinking why would I follow him but slightly desperate decide to do his directions anyway and it worked to extend. The bus was now a duck.

at that Ralphie asks Phoebe I know some of the mechanics but you know more about landing stuff. what should we do. phoebe then says looking up in thought answering 'well nothing like this happened in my old school' before focusing her head back down before vocalizing 'but I remember reading somewhere that it had to do with the shape of the Wings. wonder came in Midway saying yeah I also remember reading something saying something about wings going down in a certain way but it was really vague.

as they were 'figuring things out' below. Janet was nervous because she knew how to fly certain things but not ducks and even though the bus has 'instinct control' for things like 'in the sky foot control' and gliding it still has a lot of factors like the flapping speed and that go over the elementary school kid's head.

as Janet tried to keep some form of control above the kids below continued trying to think of the answer with phoebe then continuing from Wanda knowledge. oh I remember some thing about foot control. Wanda said oh wait I remember it from some of my flying books mentioned about ducks landing with their feet. before getting worried saying but how do we slow it down. phoebe said probably decrease the Number of flaps. proud of her realization. maybe something else too I think. seeing the duck becoming less and less in control they decided not to think any deeper and just go with that advice. yelling it to the sky for Janet to hear. which was enough for the school bus to adjust and begin positioning it to land somewhat safely towards the ground but like Wanda predicted as it began going down it started too fast to make it down in mint condition (1). which would have been fine and even though a bumpy landing a safe option if it was their's. but not so much A great option for a bus Janet have not gotten permission to use.

luckily as the bumpy landing was going on with the feet of the animal wobbling all over the place (thinking of one of those cartoon animal Looney Tunes style uncontrollable fast stop feet (though I have seen goofy do it too, I just chose the one most known for it) ones). someone remembered a dragonfly button and was able to find it fast enough to transform the tool to the smaller and slightly easier to operate form (easier 'wing controls' that are more automatic) and was more useful closer to the ground. from there they were able to position the little insect right in the centre of the parking spot instead of the otherwise 'slightly messy landing'.

after they noticed The dragonfly The bus's parking spot, Ralphie said then to Janet now to pull it up to bus referring to the lever. at that it worked the Device was now a bus again and parked in the School.

ms frizzle already looking out of her room at the scenario and was thinking I see Ralphie's knows how to use the bus well how about that.

(1) in mint condition refers to perfectly in boxed goods. (I assuming most languages have a proper translation for this. but I can also see a online translator saying mint leaf plant (or ice cream flavour) instead.)

I do remember some dragonflies to fly higher up like in waterfalls (from 'see how you grow', and yes I see I am giving my age away) but I mean visible landing space in this not amount of distance from the ground (as in altitude). i did not go that deep into The dragonfly part because it was already a nearing 500 words, double the usual length.

I have to search a little bit for duck landing considering a portion of the websites were more for hunting than education including One I used in the end. (and Wanda and Phoebe's 'extend roles' were a later edition.) (originally in the first draft it was going to be three 'quick changes'). but I think I made decent character moments here. also fun fact ducks apparently fly differently than hawks. (which was the most used 'bird of choice' on the show.) hence the 'flap a metre' to control the flapping. actually the funny thing is I just read The original end note for this for this mentioning that a duck would be harder to mechanic then 'a dragonfly' which must of been something I forgot to write that particular Transformation in the first draft but it was able to fit in in the final draft.

of course I realize this is way a 'elementary school' educational knowledge. but I let it slide since this is still the type of Random short answer sheet stuff that may appear. (read a short passage and answer a few 'written questions'.)

also apparently Miss Frizzle has been watching and thinking about Ralph his talent in bus functions, that might get interesting.

anyhow orthodox Easter is coming in the timeline. (in the ideal world they would have been in sync with orthodox Easter in publishing date but The story kind of gotten longer than expected.

I kind of wanted to put my sources but I have Heard from other people in there Author notes that this website does not treat links well and The last thing I need is this story to disappear without a 'recovery option'. i used one hunting website that has gory title 'meateater'. (first thing appearing on google 'appearing precut' without me squalling down the page) another fact I got was from a website named ducks with a Canadian address.

I really hope this is vague enough. I have backups of these episode but without 'last-minute edits' which vary in amount depending on episode. (Like I did not write a '500 view thank you' in the original draft of a story) most titles (over 80 percent) were made later so that would be a loss if this gets deleted.
