A little girl is whimpering as she's on the ground with a bit of an injured knee. She was in a pink dress with a straw hat and pink shoes and honey hair and looked to be five years old. She looked around in the forest she is in as she was still on the ground. As she was, a Poliwag came bouncing out from behind a bush, saying its name before it bounced off saying 'Poli'. Tears start to form in her eyes as she had accidentally gotten completely lost.
"Oh! I didn't even want to come with this camp. I'm completely lost." She said to herself. "I-I'm so scared." She stated. "MOMMMYY!" she called out. She then heard footsteps and flinched, thinking it was a bigger Pokémon or something.
But a boy came out of the bush. "Poliwag?" he called out. That was when he saw the little girl nearby. "Huh?" he wondered. "What are you doing out here?" he asked her as she looked at him. He was in a red and yellow shirt with a part of the poke ball on the lower side, blue shorts that were folded up at the edges and red and black shoes with white soles and he had black hair and he looked like he was five as well. "My name's Ash." He introduced himself. "What's wrong?" he requested. "Are you hurt?" he added.
"Uh, I hurt, my knee." She told him as she looked down at it.
"Oh no! Here." He exclaimed before he reached into his pocket and brought out a handkerchief. "This will help." He reassured her before he wrapped it around and tying it. "There." He stated as he looked back to her. She looked very grateful for what he had done. "It's magic." He told her before he playfully waved his arms around a good bit. "Now all the pain will go away." He told her as he waved his arms up.
She still cried a bit, still feeling the pain, even though Ash did his best to help it go away. "It still hurts so much." She told him.
"Never give up until the very end." He told her as he reach his hand down to help her. "Come on." He added. She reached up and took his hand a bit hesitantly and he pulled her up. She was very close to him until she pulled back. "There, you see?" he told her with a bright smile. "Why don't we go back to the camp site? Here." He suggested as he helped her along. "Let's go." He told her as they started walking and she looked at him as he held her hand gently.
It didn't take long until they reached the camp and Prof. Oak was teaching the other students about the different types of Pokémon, along with his Grandson who had been learning from him over the years.
"Also students. This is a Char – huh? Well now." He stated as he saw Ash and the little girl return back to the camp site. "Ash, and what's your name?" he requested to the little girl.
"S-Serena." She informed him.
"Well it's nice to meet you and why aren't you both with the group?" he requested.
"I-I…I accidentally got lost." Serena informed him.
"You did?" he questioned before he looked back over to Ash. "And I take it that you found her?" Prof. Oak requested.
"U-huh. I even put a handkerchief on her leg to help her out." Ash told him.
"Well that was sweet of you." Oak complimented before he looked back at Serena. "As for right now. How about we have someone look at your knee to make sure it's all right." He told her as he offered her his hand. She took it as she let go of Ash's and Prof. Oak took her over to Nurse Joy who was in charge of first aid.
It was over the duration of the camp that the trainers were learning about the Pokémon, along with the starters.
"Now these three Pokémon are the main Kanto starters." Prof. Oak informed them. "This one is Squirtle. This one is Bulbasaur. And this one is Charmander." He informed them. The kids looked in awe at each of them. "With Charmander right here, notice how it's a different color than what it normally would be." Oak told them.
"Huh? What do you mean, Professor?" a kid asked.
"This Charmander would normally be orange with a yellow belly. This one, however, is more of a golden yellow with a pale yellow abdomen. This one is a shiny Charmander." Prof. Oak informed them.
They all looked at it with a lot of curiosity and awe. Seeing how it was as a shiny truly got their attention.
However, elsewhere was a certain red head as she was in the car with her older sisters. She wanted to attend the summer school, but she was told they didn't have enough time to go there. She looked out the window of the gym her sisters had to run. Ever since what had happened to their parents, her older sister had no other choice but to run the gym.
"Hey, like, Misty!" one of her sisters called out.
She looked back and saw her sister with the pink hair. "Come on sis. You still have more to learn about Pokémon." She reminded her.
"I know." Misty replied as she got down. She was in a yellow shirt with blue pants as she got down and her hair had a blue ribbon to hold it down.
"Look, I know you wanted to join the summer academy with Prof. Oak, but I'm afraid we have too much to do here. We can help you as much as possible, but we're going to have to send you off to school." She told her.
"Okay, Lily." Misty replied as her older sister took her hand and they headed into the gym.
Elsewhere, Brock was spending time with his mother, not worried about going to the summer academy. She was aiding him in many tasks, even to teach him multiple things. He enjoyed helping her out, but he did wonder where why his father left them to be a Pokémon trainer when they still had a family to tend to. He was furious, but at least he was learning as much as he could from his mom.
Back at the summer camp, they had a lot of fun learning and spent plenty of time with small practice battles. But once the summer camp was over, many of the children had departed. Except for Serena who lived right close to Ash's hometown.
Ash's mother came up to pick up her son. "Hey sweetie. Are you ready to head home?" she requested.
"Yeah mom. Also, can my friend Serena come with us?" he requested.
"Huh? Your friend Serena?" she asked.
He nodded excitedly. "Yeah. From what I can tell, she's really good with Pokemon and I was wondering if she could come and stay with us for a bit?" he added.
"Well, honey. I don't know." Delia told him.
"Sorry I'm late, Serena." A woman said as she came up, a bit out of breath. "Man, it's a distance to get here." She commented.
Delia was a bit confused and looked at her. "Huh? Are you Serena's mother?" Delia requested.
"Oh, yes." She replied in a very sweet tone. "I was running a bit behind to get my daughter from the summer academy. A lot to get done, but I'm glad I brought my daughter here." She stated as she looked at her. "I hope you had a good time.
Serena nodded. "Y-yeah. I did. When Ash assisted me when I hurt my knee, I began to have more fun than I thought I would have." Serena told her mother.
"Well now, that's great to hear." Prof. Oak commented as he came up. "I thought you would have had a great time. It only took some time to have that kind of fun." He stated.
"Yep and I want to learn even more about Pokémon real soon." Ash told him.
"Well that'll take many years, so don't rush right into it." Prof. Oak told him.
"He's right, Ash." Delia told him and he looked up at her as he said 'huh?'. "You can't really rush into those kinds of things. Not to mention, I'm not sure if Serena's mother would let Serena stay with us for a bit." Delia told her son.
"Oh, I don't mind if she does." She told Delia.
"Are you sure?" Delia questioned.
"Of course. I don't mind it. It'll help to help them get to know each other a bit more." She told them.
"Oh, yes. Of course. Would you also like to join us, Miss umm…" "Grace. And sure. I'd love to." Grace told her. "It'll help me out a bit to understand Pallet Town." Grace told Delia.
"Huh? You're not from here?" Delia questioned.
It was right there Grace told Delia about her life on their way to the Ketchum residence.
"So then, you're originally from Paldea?" Delia questioned as she and Grace had some tea.
"Pretty much so. Where I used to live was in Sinnoh before I met my husband. From there, we moved to Paldea, hoping to start a new life." Grace told Delia as Ash and Serena played for a bit.
"Whatever happened in Paldea?" Delia requested as she sipped her tea.
"Well, let's just say that we tried it for a while, but it didn't feel like home, so we moved here to Kanto and we've been feeling more at home ever since then." Grace told Delia.
"Glad you guys like it here. How long have you all been living here?" Delia asked her.
"We've been living here a few weeks. Serena is still getting used to the new region, though." She informed Delia.
"My goodness. A few weeks here and not yet used to it?" Delia questioned.
"You got that right. I just hope she comes to accept this as her new home as she did live in Paldea for about five years of her life." She told Delia.
"I'm sure she will. Have you guys thought about a school she'll attend?" Delia asked.
"Not for sure on the school, but we're getting to know them and their locations." Grace replied.
"I can easily help with that." Delia told her.
Over the course of time, Serena was sent to a school that was close to Pallet Town and she started learning as much as she could about Pokémon. Not only that, but Ash had begun to learn a lot from Prof. Oak and had done practice training with the same shiny Chimchar as well. Even Gary was doing the same thing as he used Squirtle in his practice battles. So far, Chimchar and Squirtle were more like practice Pokémon for the younger trainers to use. They had grown used to both Ash and Gary.
Over the amount of years, Ash had turned ten and was ready to receive his first starter along with Gary and Serena. Not to mention, another new trainer they had met was also meant to get a new Pokémon as well.
Ash Ketchum had put on his shirt, pants, coat and gloves. Now ready to take on the world as a new Pokémon trainer. "I am Ash Ketchum and I aim to become the best Pokémon trainer in the world." He narrated to himself. He grabbed up his backpack and headed out of his room and down the stairs.
His mother was about ready to call for him until he had arrived. "Well, there you are." Delia stated.
"Sorry mom. I had to make sure I was completely ready." Ash told her.
"Maybe so, but it isn't polite to keep not only a young lady waiting, but also your best friend." Delia reminded him.
"Right, mom. Sorry." Ash told her.
"Also, I have something for you from your father. It's a gift since you're starting out on your journey." She told him.
"Right, but when will I get it?" he requested.
"After you guys get your starters. Now go on ahead, Serena is waiting for you and I know Gary will be waiting too." She told him.
"Okay. Thanks mom." He replied and went off. He put on his shoes and went out the door and saw Serena as she was waiting for him.
"Well, now. It's about time." Serena told him.
"Sorry about that, Serena. Are you ready?" He requested.
"Sure am." Serena replied. She was in a dark grey sleeveless shirt with a white collar, a red skirt, pink hat with a black blow around it and red shoes. "Are you ready to get your first starter as well?" she requested.
"Certainly am. Also, Gary should be there waiting for us." He told her.
"Oh joy. The boy with a bit of an ego." Serena commented sarcastically.
"He might have an ego. But he has a great deal of knowledge." Ash reminded her with a smile.
"I know. I just can't wait to get started with our journey." Serena told him as they walked to Prof. Oak's.
"I can't believe how much has went on over these years." Ash commented.
"Same here. We learned a great deal. I do wonder, though. Is Gary Oak going to be at his grandfather's?" Serena pondered.
"Of course he is. Why wouldn't he be?" Ash reminded her as he looked at her with a smile.
"But what should I do for my starter?" Serena asked herself.
"I think I already know mine. I don't know if Gary has made his decision." Ash commented.
It didn't take long for the two trainers to make it to Prof. Oak's lab. But when they got there, Gary was outside waiting for them.
"Well, now. Seems like someone got here early." Serena commented.
"Yeah, unlike you two, ha ha ha." Gary retorted with a laugh. "But I hope you both are ready to pick your starters." He told them.
"I know I am." Ash confirmed.
"Then let's get moving. Grandpa is up in his lab." Gary informed them as they started walking up.
Once they went up they went in and up the stairs. When they reached the top they saw Prof. Oak.
"Heya grandpa. Hope you got the starters ready." Gary told him.
Prof. Oak looked back at them and smile. "Why yes. Or course." Prof. Oak replied as he turned and walked over to them. "Your starters are completely ready." He informed them. From there, they all walked over to where the poke balls were and looked at them. "Now, mind you, that once you have chosen a starter, you are to bond with it. To have a strong enough attachment to your companion." Prof. Oak told them. He then picked up each of the poke balls and released them, revealing the Shiny Charmander, a Squirtle and Bulbasuar.
Each of them looked at their own Pokémon, attempting to decide which one to choose.
Serena looked to the Bulbasaur and gave it a quick thought and made her decision as she knelt down to it. "Hey there, Bulbasaur." She greeted. "Would you like to join up with me on my Pokémon journey?" she requested.
"Saur bulbasaur. (I'd love to.)" it replied.
"Well now, it seems like Bulbasuar has agreed to traveling with you." Prof. Oak commented. "The bond between you two will grow over time." He stated.
Ash went over to Charmander and smiled at it. "I remember you from a while back. Would you like to travel with me?" he requested.
"Char charmander char. (I'm ready when you are.)" Charmander replied.
"Ah, yes. I remember how well you and Charmander bonded over these years. You two will make a great team." Prof. Oak said happily.
Gary went up to Squrtle, knowing this was the one he wanted to travel with. "Well, now. Seems like you and I are going to be companions." Gary told his Pokemon.
"Squirtle squitrle. (I can't wait to go out on a journey.)" it stated.
"Marvelous then. I'm glad you all have made your choices." Prof. Oak told them before he went over to get them their items. They watched him as he came back and he presented them with their dexs and poke balls. "You three will need these on your journey." He told them. They each took them and thanked him. "Best of luck on your journey and remember. There's a right time and place for everything, but at other times there isn't." he told them.
"Thanks Prof. Oak. We'll keep that in mind." Ash told him.
They all began to head out and they saw a large crowd at the gate outside. It looked like all of their friend and family were there to see them off on their first journey through Kanto. Once they got down to them their parents approached them.
"Oh, Ash. Your father and I are so proud of you." Delia told him.
"Is he here?" Ash requested.
"I'm afraid not. That's why I told you about his gift." Delia told him as she brought out a present. It was a big if a large box. "I kept it hidden for a few days to surprise you." Delia told him.
"Oh, yeah. That's right. I forgot you told me about this." Ash recalled as he took it and opened it. Once he did, a Pikachu popped out with a 'Pika?'. Wondering what was going on. "Ha, ha. It's a Pikachu! Amazing!" he exclaimed.
"This one certainly is, Ash. Looks like it's pretty strong." Gary commented.
"Mosty certainly does." Ash acknowledged as he picked it up.
"Pika? (Who are you?)" Pikachu wondered.
"So then, it seems like you get more than one Pokémon." Serena commented.
"He certainly is lucky." Gary added.
"Also, here." Delia told Ash as she handed him a poke ball. "This is its poke ball." She told Ash.
He took it and he looked at Pikachu. "Hey, Pikachu. Are you ready?" Ash requested.
"Pikachu pika? (What all is going on?)" Pikachu requested.
"Hmm. I'm doing my best to understand you, but I'm guessing that you're wondering what's going on?" Ash requested.
"Pi. (I am.)"Pikachu replied as it nodded it's head.
"Well…my father caught you as a present for me for when I would start my journey and I'd be honored if you would." Ash told 'em as he put his hand forward. Pikachu looked at his hand then to him, sensing something about Ash.
Not long after, Pikachu was now on Ash's shoulder as Gary and Serena traveled with them.
"I'm very surprised that Pikachu took a strong liking to you." Gary commented.
"Well, yeah. Or course." Ash told Gary. "Remember how we both learned from your grandfather about Pokémon over the years?" Ash requested.
"I do recall that, yeah." Gary replied.
"Thanks to all that I've learned. I was able to connect with Pikachu and your grandfather said that as soon as we got to the first town, he would help to register Pikachu's poke ball." Ash told him.
"I will admit. It is very surprising that your father sent you this Pikachu. Plus I love how cute it looks." Serena complimented.
"Pika. (Why thank you.) Pikachu replied very cheerfully with its eyes closed.
As they walked they spotted a wild Spearow. Ash, Gary and Serena spotted it and readied their poke balls. "Right! I'm ready to… huh?" they questioned as they looked to each other.
"Listen, Ash. You already have two on hand. It's only fair if I get this one." Gary told him.
"Hey! What about "ladies first?"" Serena reminded Gary.
"Well someone needs to weaken then catch it before it gets away." Ash reminded them.
"I'll go first. Go Squirtle!" Gary called out and a blue shiny light burst out, forming Squirtle.
""Squirtle squirtle. (I'm ready for anything.)" Squirtle stated.
"Go, Squirtle. Use Tackle." Gary ordered.
Squirtle ran in quickly and hit Spearow. But Spearow recovered and flew high into the air before coming down for an attack.
"Dodge and use Water Gun." Gary ordered.
Squirtle jumped up s high as it could and shot water out of its mouth, hitting Spearow. The Spearow turned around for another attack after that.
"Now! Tackle again." Gary ordered.
Before Spearow could fly down for another attack, Squirtle Tackled it. Weakening it even more.
Gary grabbed his poke ball and clicked the button to enlarge it. "GO POKE BALL." He ordered. It hit Spearow and it withdrew into the poke ball. After landing and giving off multiple shakes, the red light on it deactivated and Gary picked it up. "ALL RIGHT! Yeah. I caught…Spearow!" he exclaimed.
"Nice job." Serena complimented.
"Way to go, Gary." Ash added.
"Thanks." Gary replied before he withdrew Squirtle and they continued on their way.
It wasn't long until they made it to a river and they knew this was one of the ways to Viridian City. The water was going pretty fast. Much too fast for them to swim in.
Ash looked at the river, as he could tell this was going to be incredibly hard.
"Maybe we should go a different way?" Serena requested.
"We could, but Viridian isn't too far away form this point and look." Gary told them as he pointed in the water. "There are some stones we can jump on." he told them.
"Gary's right. We can get across by those stones." Ash stated.
"Pika pikachu. (We'll have to be very careful.)" Pikachu stated.
Ash looked at him with a nod. "Right!" he confirmed.
Gary went first as he stepped forward and hopped onto the first rock and cautiously went across the stones. He made it to the other side as he turned around and waved at them. "Okay, guys. We're good to go." He confirmed. Serena stepped forward a bit. "Just be careful. They felt a bit slippery." He cautioned them.
"Glad he told us before I went ahead." Serena said to herself as she jumped. She managed to jump on each one until she got to the other side as well, nearly slipping until Gary managed to grab her hand and brought her over to where he was.
"You okay, Serena?" he asked her.
"Y-yeah. Just a little slippery is all." She replied.
"No kiddin'" he replied until he looked across to Ash. "Be careful Ash. Keep Pikachu safe." Gary told him.
"Probably easier said than done." Ash said to himself until he looked over to his partner. "You ready for this?" he asked his companion with determination.
"Pikachu! (Ready!)" Pikachu exclaimed.
From there Ash started across the river as he jumped on each rock. He was almost halfway across until he slipped.
"ASH!" Gary and Serena both exclaimed. As Ash fell, he knew he could do one thing right now. He grabbed Pikachu and threw 'em across to the other side. When he did, Pikachu was caught by Gary and Serena and they saw Ash fall in. He barely managed to keep his head up as he went down the river.
"Oh no!" Serena exclaimed.
"This isn't good." Gary stated as he let go of Pikachu and Serena held onto him as Gary held his Squirtle's poke ball. "Go Squirtle and follow Ash." Gary ordered.
A blue wavy light burst from the poke ball and Squirtle materialized from it. "Squirtle squirtle! (I'm going in!)" the turtle Pokémon stated as it dive right in.
"Come on. We need to follow the river so Squirtle won't have far to travel." Gary told Serena. She nodded her head and they both ran.
Ash, however, went to the end of the river and fell down a water fall as he splashed in a large mass of water. When he did, he felt a bit of the current and he kept on swimming as he saw other water Pokémon swim right by him. But something he didn't expect was to be caught by a Gyarados and he was accidentally dragged along for a bit.
This Gyarados was really fast as it swam through the massive body of water. As it did, Ash saw something in the distance. It was a bit shiny.
He managed to free himself from Gyarados until the shiny object accidentally snagged him.
A red-headed girl in a tank-top shirt and blue overalls with red suspenders was fishing until she felt her line tug. This surprised her, but this was a bite she was waiting for, "H-hey! I got a bite!" she exclaimed excitedly. Once she gave it a strong enough tug, Ash was lifted up and out of the water and he flew over her. She managed to catch a glimpse of him as he did and he landed right in front of her, getting knocked out in the process. "What the hey? It wasn't a…" it took her a second to register what had happened and then he rushed to his side. "Oh no!" she stated as she ran over to him.
She checked him up and down and listened to his breathing, but she heard nothing. "Uh oh. Hes not breathing." She acknowledged. She knew what needed to be done so she carefully positioned his head and got into position herself. She opened his mouth, covered it with hers and blew into him, giving him mouth-to-mouth. After that she did chest compressions just in case. She repeated the process until he coughed up a bit of water and sat up.
"What the – what in the…" "Hey, careful. I just fished you up." She told him and she put her hand on him, thinking that something could be wrong.
"Oh, uh, I'm fine." He told her.
"I doubt it. You were knocked out after I fished you up." She told him.
"I – I was?" Ash questioned as he only sat up.
"Yeah. I had to make sure you were okay." She told him.
"So far, I'm still breathing." He replied to her.
"Only because I had to give you mouth-to-mouth." She informed him.
"Oh. Thank you." He replied to her.
She then tilted her head a bit. "Hey, where's your Pokémon?" she requested.
"Let's see… I'm trying to remember, but my memory is a bit blank." He told her.
"Huh! I guess from what all you went through, you probably lost some of your memory." She told him before she stood up and offered her hand. "Here." She told him. He looked pretty confused, but he took her hand and she helped him up. "I can help you find your Pokémon. What is it?" she offered.
"Well…" he started as he accepted her hand and she helped him up. "If I remember correctly, it's a Pikachu." He recalled. "And if I'm remembering correctly, I think I tossed him to a friend of mine once I started to fall in the river." He added.
"Seems like it's been a day for you." She commented. "Come on. We can find your Pokémon and your friend together." She told him as she packed up her gear and they headed out.
"Actually…I think I was with two other people." Ash started to recall.
"Are you sure it wasn't three?" she asked in a joking way.
"Ha, ha, ha." Ash laughed as the two of them started walking.
As they did, Squirtle spotted them and swam away from their location and went to where Gary and Serena were.
They were on the bank of Viridian Lake, walking in the same direction Ash went in.
As they walked Serena glanced over and saw Squirtle. "Hey! It's Squirtle." She told Gary.
They walked over and met up with Squirtle. "Squirtle! Did you spot Ash?" he requested.
"Squirtle squirt Squirtle. (He's down that way.)" Squirtle told him as he pointed in the direction came from.
"Great. Thanks Squirtle. Return." Gary told 'em as a red beam withdrew Squirtle back in its poke ball.
They started walking to where Squirtle told them as Ash was walking with the girl that helped him out.
"Oh, and apologies for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Misty." She told him.
"Nice to meet you, Misty. My name is Ash." He replied.
"Nice to meet you, Ash. So tell me. What all do you remember?" she requested.
"I do remember starting out on my journey not too long ago today. Man, why can't I remember?" he questioned himself.
"Might be because of what happened earlier. Whatever had happened." Misty told him.
"You're probably right." He replied as they continued to walk.
It took them some time, but Ash and Misty managed to spot Gary and Serena from a distance. Once Ash saw them, his memory came back.
"Hey! It's Serena and Gary!" he exclaimed.
"So, you remember them?" Misty asked him.
"Yeah. I guess once I saw them, my memory came back." He added.
Both Serena and Gary saw Ash as well.
"Hey, look!" Gary exclaimed.
"It's Ash." Serena stated.
"Pikapi! (Ash!)" Pikachu exclaimed as he hopped off of Serena's shoulder and ran to Ash.
They all ran to him as he and Misty walked to them.
"I'm certainly glad we managed to find them." Misty told Ash.
"Same here." Ash replied until they saw Pikachu ran to Ash.
"It looks like Pikachu is happy to see you as well." Misty added.
Pikachu jumped into Ash's arms with a 'Pikapi' as Ash caught 'em. "Ha, ha. Pikachu! I hope you're okay." He told his companion.
"Pika pikachu pikapi. (I'm very glad you're okay, Ash.)" Pikachu told Ash.
Gary and Serena each saw Misty and they were happy when she walked up with Ash.
"Hey, thank you for finding Ash." Serena told her.
"Yeah. Really helped us out in the long run." Gary added.
"It was no problem at all. I was just in the right place at the right time." Misty replied.
"Maybe so. But we're glad you managed to save him. How did you save him though?" Serena requested.
"Well, believe it or not. While I was fishing, he accidentally got caught on my hook." She started to explain. "After that, I accidentally flung him over and he fell unconscious, so I used mouth-to-mouth to get the water out of his lungs." She told them.
"Mouth-to-mouth?" Ash questioned.
"Best thing to do Ash. Primarily when one nearly drowns. Didn't you learn that years ago?" Gary asked him.
"I do know about it, yeah. But I didn't know all of that happened to me." Ash told him.
"Still. We're glad you're okay and still. Thank you for your help." Serena told her.
"It was no problem. Besides that, I think I best get moving to Viridian City." Misty told them.
"Then why don't we all travel together? We're on our way there, too." Ash told her.
"Really?" Misty asked, pretty surprised.
"Yeah, I wouldn't mind it." Gary added.
"Same with me." Serena added as well.
"What about you, Pikachu?" Ash requested.
"Pikachu! (I agree!)" Pikachu exclaimed.
"I'd say it's settled then." Ash stated.
"I'd say so. I'm ready whenever you guys are." Misty told them.
From there they all started heading towards Viridian City, as they have now just started on their Pokémon journey. But elsewhere, in another completely different region a blue haired woman is now picking up her mail and she looks through it. But she finds one letter addressed to her from someone she knows.
"Huh? Well now, it's been a while!" she exclaims to herself.
