Even Gary has went along with them. But when their journey started, Ash's father sent him a gift which is a Pikachu in which they've managed to bond fairly quickly, but they got separated when they attempted to cross a river. Now they're traveling with Misty towards Viridian City where they hope to not only start their own at. But where they'll find out about someone who is close to Ash's family.

Ash with his friends Gary, Serena and someone they recently met, Misty, were all heading towards Viridian City. The three new trainers anxious to really get started on their journey. As for Misty, however. They didn't know anything about her, but after Gary saw her, he began to think the was very pretty and didn't know how Ash even managed to meet up with her.

"Say, Ash." Gary started which prompted Ash to look at him. "I'm surprised at how well you handled things back there. Even when you threw your Pikachu towards Serena. What prompted you to do that?" he requested.

"Well, I didn't want Pikachu to go down river with me and somehow get hurt. So I knew I had to throw him, but at someone I trusted." He answered.

"I'm surprised you threw Pikachu towards Serena." Gary teased.

"Oh boy! Listen, it was at last second. I didn't have much time to carefully think." He retorted.

"Hey, I know. I was just teasing ya, ha ha." Gary told him as he laughed a bit.

"Oh jeez!" Ash commented as he rolled his eyes annoyingly. "Listen. I just want to get to Viridian City and see if we're able to challenge the gym leader there real fast." He stated.

"I know. But you must admit. She is a cutie." He added. Ash merely rolled his eyes out of annoyance, knowing how much Gary would tease him.

Serena and Misty were starting to chat as they headed to Viridian City.

"So you were starting out on a journey as well?" Serena asked.

"Well, sort of." Misty replied. "I am on a bit of a journey. Somewhat to find myself." Misty told her.

"Well you could probably join us. After all, we've recently started today." Serena told her.

"Well that would be great. But what of those two?" Misty asked her as she glimpsed back at Gary and Ash.

Serena glimpsed back at them as well and had a thought before looking back to Misty. "Don't worry. I'll have a chat with them." She reassured her.

It took them a bit of time, but the four of them managed to get to Viridian City.

"Wow! Viridian City." Serena commented in awe. "I don't come here that often." She added.

"I guess that school didn't let you out to a lot of places, huh?" Gary asked.

"Not really, no. We mostly remained at the school, but when I got home, my mom and dad did try and take me to certain places, but even their schedules were a bit complicated." Serena told them.

"I understand what you mean." Misty replied, knowing what all she went through.

They made it to where Officer Jenny was and they showed their identifications as proof of being Pokémon trainers and not Pokémon thieves. But she looked to Misty who didn't have any. "What about you miss? Don't you have any identification?" she questioned.

"Unfortunately, no. I knew I was missing something." She stated.

"You don't have anything to worry about, Officer Jenny. If she was a thief she would've made many attempts with us to capture our Pokémon." Ash reassured her.

"Hmm, that is true. Especially since you have your Pikachu on your shoulder. Okay. I'll take your word for it." Officer Jenny told them as she managed to recognize Ash due to knowing his father.

"Thanks Officer Jenny." Misty told her.

"No problem. Now go ahead and get along. I'm sure you all want to take a break from the start of your trip." She told them.

"Thanks. See ya." Gary told her as they all departed from her station.

"I don't believe it. There are still Pokémon thieves around?" Ash questioned.

"That's what I got. But how are they still around is my question!" Serena exclaimed.

As they continued to walk someone in a orange red suit noticed them and thought he saw someone he recognized among the four trainers.

They made it to the Pokémon Center and Nurse Joy heard them come in. "Hello and welcome to the Pokemon Center." She greeted them.

"Hey Nurse Joy. Can you take a look at my Pokémon. I had a small battle earlier." Gary requested.

"Most certainly. Does you three need yours looked at as well?" she asked them.

"Sure. Thank you, Nurse Joy." Misty replied. Serena and Ash gave her their as well for a quick check up.

"Chansey! (Need any help?)" Chansey requested.

"Yes. Thank you, Chansey." She replied as she handed the nursing Pokémon the poke ball tray.

"Huh? A Chansey!" Ash said to himself as he pulled out his pokedex.

It gave off a beep. "Chansey! The Egg Pokemon and the evolved form of Happiny. It walks carefully to prevent its egg from breaking. However, it is extremely fast at running away." It told them.

"I've heard about them. It is said that a trainer who catches one gets good luck when they have it." Gary commented as he looked at it.

"I'd say just about anyone could use good luck." Serena added.

That's when the same man from earlier came in. "Well now, I thought I saw someone familiar." He stated. Ash and those looked and they saw him in his orange suit and Ash's eyes went wide. "It's good seeing you again, Ash." He told them.

"What the… Giovanni!" Ash exclaimed, not expecting to see him.

Right after, they were sitting down; the three looked between them, noticing how Ash knows Giovanni.

"Wait! How do you know him, Ash?" Gary wondered.

"Yeah. I'm very surprised about this as well." Serena added.

"There's a lot to explain here, but it's all very simple." Giovanni told them.

"You see, Giovanni and my father were very close friends for many years." Ash informed them.

"Wait! They have been close friends for many years? That's surprising." Misty commented. "Also, weren't you a part of Team Rocket?" she added.

"Close enough, but yeah." Giovanni told her. "I was the son of the woman who ran the organization. But I did want to become a strong Pokémon trainer." He informed her.

"What all happened at that point?" Gary asked him.

"Well, I did go over to Prof. Oak's lab and met up with Ash's father, Red. After that we were basically rivals as we each wanted the same thing." He told them.

"What all happened at that point?" Serena asked.

"Well the both of us managed to get to the Kanto League and he managed to find someone to travel with him. Ash's mother." Giovanni added.

"Wait! He met my mother on his journey?" Ash questioned.

"Yep. Many months into our journey. I've never seen two people more in love." He stated as he remembered how happy Red was back then. "But my mom constantly reminded me about the "mission." That I needed to win the league in order for her organization to have more of an opening to conquer the region." He told them.

"So that's what happened! I thought there was more to the story than what my parents told me." Gary recalled.

"My mother always kept everything on the downlow. Top secret from everyone unless she knew they could be trusted. But once I lost the League to Red, my mother was livid as she lost her advantage and blamed me for my friendship with Red. That almost severed our friendship until Red convinced me that it was my mom that was in the wrong. It took me all night to realize that." He told them.

"If I remember correctly. That's when you decided to stop your mom?" Ash asked, trying to remember correctly.

"Yes, you're correct on that. Your father even helped me to put a stop to her and disband Team Rocket."

"That's something I didn't expect to hear. I thought you would've joined them." Misty commented, not knowing about any of this.

"Well, yes." Giovanni replied as he looked at her. "Once Red managed to talk sense into me. The two of us went against my mother evil organization, head on." He stated.

"It must've been quite the task." Serena adds.

"How did you guys manage to beat your mom?" Gary asks.

Giovanni looks over to him. "With how things were going, she almost got the advantage until Red used one of his top ace Pokémon: Venusaur." Giovanni explained.

"Let me guess. You all managed to beat her. What about the gym?" Gary asks.

"After time had passed by, the duties of the gym were passed to me. I felt like I was more destined to become a gym leader over winning the league." He admitted.

"Seems like it. When can we challenge you?" Ash requested.

"Well, my qualifications are you must have at least five Pokémon and five badges." He informed them.

"Five Pokémon and five badges? Awe man." Gary complained.

"Yeo. Sounds accutate for your gym." Serena commented.

Misty looked at her. "Huh? What do you mean?" she requested.

"Well. While I was in school. I've learned ab out the gyms as well. Giovanni has some pretty strong Pokémon." She commented.

Giovanni nodded. "She's right. I have a lot of strong Pokémon to give my gym a competitive challenge." He informed them.

"From what I can tell about that. You certainly still have some of the od Team Rocket in you." Ash commented.

Giovanni looked down with his eyes closed, knowing Ash was right. "I'll admit, I probably do. But I don't aim to bring that organization back." He stated as his arms were crossed.

"Well. At least that's some good news. What all happened after that?" Ash requested.

"She was placed under arrest and put in jail. I know she'll be there for a long time." He commented, relieved his mom wasn't going to be running the gym or the organization anymore. Later on he took them to the gym and they looked at it. "Well, here she is." He told them. They all looked at it with awe. Seeing it was pretty big and they all went inside. "Huh! Wow." Ash commented.

"Yeesh! I feel like I could lose in a heartbeat here." Gary commented.

"No kidding." Misty added. 'My sisters gym isn't even as big as this.' She thought to herself.

"I'd like for this place to feel as roomy as possible for my upcoming challengers." He told them. This did make a lot of sense as he wanted to accommodate as much as possible for any challenger.

It wasn't long after that, an explosion occurred from the top of the gym and down came two ropes and two people not long after. They all watched as this happened. One of them was a woman with long red hair and she was wearing a black suit with a big B on it. The second was a guys with short blue hair with the same clothes and letter on his shirt.

"Huh? Who are those guys?" Serena asked.

"Don't worry. I'll deal with them." Giovanni told them as he walked forward a bit as they reached the bottom. "What is it that you both want?" Giovanni requested.

"What else do we want? We want this gym." The woman told him.

"And who are you both exactly?" Giovanni requested.

"Ha, ha! From our boss to you, you best get ready for trouble." She told them.

"From us to you, make it double." She continued.

"To defect the world from devastation."

"To divide our people's within every region."

They started, but the others only started to laugh which only got the trainers to try and stifle their laughter. "Hey! What are you guys even laughing at?" he male demanded.

"What…was that?" Gary requested as he was having a hard time keeping it together.

"How dare you laugh at us! We're Jessie and James of Team Blast Off." She attempted to scold them. That was the punch right there as they busted up laughing.

"Oh jeez! A knock off Team Rocket?" Giovanni questioned.

"We're no knock off. We're a major improvement." James attempted to retort.

"And I'm the World Champion." Giovanni sarcastically replied.

"Stop making fun of us. This isn't funny." James demanded.

"Ugh. Time to end this." He stated as he grabbed a poke ball. "Go Nidoking!" he called out. From the toss of his poke ball, Nidoking popped out, giving off a roar and its size intimidated them. "Use Hyberbeam." He ordered.

Both Jessie and James screamed as Nidoking charged up and fired its Hyperbeam which launched the duo into the air.

"How in the world did this happen?" James complained.

"I strongly doubt it matters. Especially with how the boss will react to this." Jessie told him.

"We're Blasting off!" they shouted as they flew into the distance.

"Yeesh. They're a bunch of clowns." Misty pointed out.

"Especially with that horrible team name and what they were saying." Serena added.

"It was their motto, and – ugh. That was just incredibly poor." Giovanni stated as he rubbed his faced with annoyance.

"You're telling me." Ash replied, understanding what his Uncle figure meant.

Later on into the night. The four of them shared a room, Misty considered on sleeping on her own, but Serena and Ash managed to convince her to stay with them. Gary was pretty happy about this, but Ash didn't like how Gary was trying to look at her.

"Come on, Gary. We just meet her today and you're wanting to flirt with her?" Ash questions.

"Come on, Ashy-boy. It's only a little flirt. What harm could it do?" Gary asks him

"Oh, jeez! Just don't scare her off. I'm probably gonna ask her to join us on our journey." Ash told him.

Gary was in disbelief when he heard this. "You're kidding? Why are you gonna ask her to join us? Should it be me?" he pondered.

"You're a good guy, Gary. But let me do the talking, okay?" Ash retorts as he goes to wait for her.

"Oh boy. What is even on his mind?" Gary wondered.

Misty just got out of the shower as she was now in her pants and tank top shirt. She headed down the hall to the room she was sharing with Ash, Gary and Serena, but she bumped into Ash when he showed up. "Oh, hey, Ash. What's up?" she asked.

"Hey, Misty. Can I ask you something?" Ash requested.

"Sure." She replied with a smile and the two of them walked to the lounge area of the Pokémon Center.

Gary peeked around the corner, wondering how Ash was going to handle this. "Hey, we were – as in Gary and I, and I believe Serena as well. We were wondering if you'd like to join us on our journey." He requested.

Misty looked at him, surprised at this question. "Y-you guys want me to join?" she questions.

"Sure. Why not. After all, Serena would need another girl to bond with and I have a good feeling about you." He told her.

Misty was very shocked as was Gary and Misty started to think on this, even about the journey she was on. She looked back at Ash, seeing that he was being very sincere. "S-sure. I'd love to join up with you guys. After all it might help me out on mine." She added.

"Glad you could join us." Ash replied as he extended his hand and they shook.

"Wow! He got her to join us? Maybe he did learn a thing or two from my grandpa." Gary said to himself as he went back to their room.

Later on into the next day, they were now traveling down the road and Ash found a Caterpie. He didn't know if it was strong or weak enough to be captured, so he sent in Pikachu. But before he did, Misty hid behind him,

"Huh? What is it, Misty?" he requested.

"B-bugs! I hate bugs!" she exclaimed.

"You hate bugs?" he questioned.

"It more looks like you're scared of it." Serena pointed out.

"Y-you're right. I am. It's incredibly hard for me to stand bugs." She stated.

"Well you have nothing to worry about as I've got this." He reassured her.

As this was happening, Gary watched as she hid behind him, a small pang of jealousy in him. Yet, none of them seemed to mind, even as he didn't hear the conversation of Misty's fear. But after Ash put Pikachu in, Pikachu was ready.

"Use Tackle, Pikachu." Ash commanded and Pikachu went in and tackled Caterpie. "Now use Tackle once more." Ash ordered and Pikachu rammed right into Caterpie again and Ash readied a poke ball. "Poke ball… GO!" he ordered as he threw it and Caterpi withdrew right into it. The ball shook a few times until it stopped and Ash picked it up. "All right! I caught a CATERPIE!" he exclaimed proudly.

"Might be a capture, but it certainly wasn't strong." Gary commented.

"A catch is a catch and as long as I can train Caterpie, it'll grow and evolve over time." Ash reminded him.

When Misty heard their conversation, but began to think about what Serena told her yesterday and what she noticed from Ash. This made her think on the two of them, but she knew she was too young to start dating or anything else. "I can see what you meant when you told me about Gary." She commented.

"No kidding. From what I can tell is that the two of them will be pretty competitive." Serena commented.

"Especially when it comes to gym challenges. I have a feeling about that." Misty added.

It wasn't long after that Ash found a Pidgeotto. Even though it was stronger, Pikachu was certainly up for the challenge. After hitting it with a couple of Thunderbolts, Ash managed to catch it and he and Gary had a couple of battles as well.

They remained in the forest for the night, Misty looking up at the stars as Gary and Serena slept. Ash was still up and he saw her as he turned over.

"Huh? Misty? You're still up?" Ash requested as he sat up on his arm.

Misty looked over to him. "Yeah. Just enjoying the stars is all." She told him.

He looked up and saw the stars and how beautiful they were. Ash felt something in him. Something he didn't' know about. He wondered, though. What was that feeling about. He then looked over to Misty and saw something a bit different about her. Something he couldn't explain.

It wasn't until the next morning, they were now back on their journey. Ash and Misty were chatting for a bit, having a bit of a bond. Serena was right behind them, commenting as Gary was looking at the map. They all looked at him as he was.

"So which way do we need to go?" Gary asked them.

"Into battle!" someone exclaimed.

"Okay, good because I…" Gary then flinched when a sword was brought to his level.

"You four. All of you are from Pallet Town, am I correct?" he requested.

Ash went up to him, seeing that they were probably in a bit of a pickle. "Me, Gary and Serena are." Ash told him.

"I live elsewhere, but what do you want?" Misty requested.

"A battle. I challenge each trainer to a Pokémon battle." He told them as he put away his sword. "A one-on-one battle between each of us, so I can determine who is novice." He told them.

"Well I accept your challenge." Gary and Ash both said at once and looked at each other.

"I'm going first, Ash." Gary retorted.

"No, I am." Ash retorted as well.

"Listen, he brought his sword down on me, so I get him first." Gary stated.

Ash about rebuffed him until Misty went up a bit. "Just let him battle first, Ash. After all, the samurai did approach him first." Misty told him.

"Okay, fine." Ash replied, annoyed he couldn't be the first one to take the samurai.

Gary and the Samurai both readied their poke balls. "Go!" they both called out and released their own respective Pokémon. Gary his Sqiuirtle and the Samurai his own Beedrill.

"Go now, Beedrill and use Twinneedle." The Samurai ordered.

"Counter it with Tackle." Gary ordered as well.

Beedrill went in fast as Squirtle ran in, but it wasn't fast enough to hit Beedrill as Beedrill hit it with its needles.

"No, Squirtle." Gary called out.

"Don't' get distracted. Use Fury Attack." The Samurai ordered.

"Dodge and use Water Gun." Gary ordered. Squirtle did manage to jump up and fire its water, but Beedrill managed to turn around and hit it repeatedly with its Fury Attack. "Oh no!" Gary exclaimed.

"All you did is was get my Beedrill wet. Finish it off with a Twinneedle." The Samurai ordered. Beedrill went in once again and hit Squirtle, damaging it a lot more.

"No!" Gary called out.

"Gary. Call back Squirtle. It's too weak to fight his Beedrill." Ash told him.

Gary grunted, very annoyed that Ash was right and held up his poke ball. "Return." He called out and Squirtle went back in and he looked at the poke ball. "Thanks, Squirtle. You did your best." Gary complimented.

"That your Squirtle did." The Samurai added as Gary put the poke ball away. "But, the lesson for you is to not use your starter Pokémon when it hasn't been trained properly." He taught him before returning his Beedrill.

Gary about retorted until Ash stepped in. "He's right. You probably could've used that Spearow you caught at the start." Ash reminded him.

"Who's next, then?" the Samurai requested.

"I am. I'll take you on." Serena replied as she stepped in and readied her poke ball. "I know Bulbasaur hasn't had that much training, but I know it has a good chance." She pointed out before tossing it into the air, thus releasing it and Bulbasaur announced itself.

"A nice choice for this next round." The Samurai complimented as he readied his next poke ball. "Time for mine, go!" he called out as his next Pokémon released, which was a Pinsir.

"Let's see how well you do, Bulbasaur. Use Tackle." Serena called out. Bulbasaur ran towards Pinsir.

"Counter it with Seismic Toss." The Samurai called out. Pinsir grabbed Bulbasaur, flew up and threw it down, making it hit the ground. "Now use Vice Grip." The Samurai added.

"Oh no!" Misty exclaimed before she looked at Serena. "You need to get Bulbasaur out of there before it gets anymore damage." Misty warned her.

"Huh? Right." Serena acknowledged at Misty before turning back to the battle. "Dodge and use Razor Leaf." Serena ordered. Bulbasaur jumped, but then looked back at Serena, confused. "Wait! Don't you know how to use Razor Leaf?" she requested.

"Seems like both Pokemon and trainer have more to learn. Use Bind." He ordered. Pinsir grabbed her Bulbasaur and had a very tight grip on it, making her Bulbasaur struggle.

"Oh no. Come on, Bulbasaur. Vine Whip." She called out. Bulbasaur knew that and released its vine whips, hitting Pinsir.

"Oh no!" the Samurai exclaimed.

"Now use Tackle." Serena commanded. Bulbasaur tackled Pinsir and it was getting a bit weak and Serena about used another attack.

"Return." The Samurai commanded and Pinsir was withdrawn by the red beam.

"Huh?" Serena questioned and the Samurai put the ball back on his belt.

"You certainly do know a few things. You're not as novice as him." He told her and he looked to Gary.

"Hey! I'm no novice!" Gary attempted to retort.

"You chose poorly with your Pokémon. But I wonder of him." The Samurai stated as he looked over towards Ash.

"Huh? Me?" Ash questioned.

"Yes you. I challenge you to a Pokémon battle." The Samurai told him.

Ash nodded and stepped forward. "Fine! I accept your challenge." He replied.

Misty looked at him, unsure about this from what has happened with Gary and Serena. "Are you sure about this, Ash? He's pretty tough." Misty requested.

Ash looked to her. "I'd say I got this." He reassured her with a smile as he gave her a thumbs up before looked back at the Samurai. "I'm ready whenever you are." He stated.

"Fine! Go Metapod!" he called out. He threw his Poke Ball and Metapod came out.

"Hmm." Ash pondered before he grabbed up a Poke Ball. "I know I recently caught you, but I know you can do it." Ash stated as he enlarged the ball. "Go! Caterpie." He called out. Out of his Poke Ball came Caterpie.

"Hmm! A fine choice, but will it be enough?" The Samurai pondered as well. "Go, Metapod. Use String Shot." The Samurai called out.

"Dodge and counter with Tackle." Ash called out as well. Metapod fired its Strong Shot, but Caterpie dodged and lunged at Metapod and tackled Metapod.

"Drat. You use tackle as well." The Samurai countered. His Metapod managed to get a hit on Caterpie.

"Don't give up, Caterpie. Use String Shot." Ash encouraged. Caterpie fired quickly and wrapped up Metapod. "Don't let go of the string. Swing Metapod around then release." Caterpie did as Ash told it and swung Metapod around two or three times before releasing. Metapo hit the ground taking some more damage.

"Oh ow!" Gary exclaimed in awe.

"Can he even do that?" Serena wondered but they all noticed that Metapod was struggling to get up.

"I'd say this match is over." Ash pointed out and went over to help the Samurai's Metapod back up. "I hope you're okay." He told it.

"Metapod. (I'll be all right.)" it replied.

"Good. Glad you're okay. You did a great job." Ash stated as he smiled at it before going over to Caterpie and bending down to it. "You did great work as well, Caterpie." Ash told it.

Even though Misty didn't like bugs she went over to it and knelt down. "Well now, you're certainly a strong bug-type." She complimented as she reached forward to pet it- but showing that she was very hesitant until Caterpie aimed up wards and shot its string out, a blue light engulfing it as well. They all watched in amazement as it evolved into a Metapod as well.

"Metapod! (Ready for anything!)" Metapod exclaiamed.

"Wow. Right after our battle your Caterpie evolved. I must say, you're no novice and you've gained my respect." The Samurai told Ash as he bowed to him.

"Thank you, but I still have much more to learn." Ash pointed out.

As he said this the others saw how much Ash gained over the years and stated that he still had a ways to go. Even Misty was now setting a gentler and admiring tone in her body language. "Oh wow. He's not like anyone else I've ever met. The way he stopped the battle seeing how the Samurai's Metapod wasn't strong enough to keep battling. I wonder what else there is to him?" he wondered to herself outloud.

It wasn't long after that Ash and his friends waved farewell to the Samurai as they continued on with their journey ahead.

As they did Jessie and James were now in front of their boss on a knee each. She looked on at them with strong disapproval.

"It took you morons this long to get to me. Yet, empty handed?" she demanded in a hate and intimidating tone.

"We're sorry. Please? Give us another shot?" Jessie pleaded.

"Giovanni was far tougher than we had anticipated." James added.

Their female boss only sat at her desk in different red colors on her outfit. Her legs crossed in her skirt. "I honestly don't know why I should. But given the situation with this outcome. I'm willing to give you another shot." She told them.

"Also, we might need a new team name." James informed her.

"What?" she demanded as she raised an eyebrow.

"Our name "Team Blast Off," only got laughed at. We'll need a new name if we're to strike fear into the hearts of trainers." Jessie informed her.

"Then if we have to. We'll go back to what my aunt called her organization: Team Rocket." She stated.
