"Miss Granger!" Hermione stopped in her tracks and turned to face her professor with a small smile.
"Yes, Professor Lupin?" she tilted her head as she readjusted the strap on her shoulder.
"I was wondering if you'd seen Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley, or the Weasley twins for that matter," Professor Lupin had stood up from behind his desk, although still leaning heavily on it. He was pale and had dark circles under his eyes. Hermione wondered if he was still sick but didn't voice the question.
"I haven't seen them, per se," Hermione answered, "But I know where they are."
"And that is?" the professor prompted.
"Detention," Hermione stated plainly, "Apparently getting repetitive detentions for idiotic reasons is against the school rules."
"I'd almost forgotten that rule," Professor Lupin smiled, "Did you know Harry's father and a school friend of ours were the reason it was made?"
"Really?" Hermione perked up, "What'd they do?"
"They had a bet," Remus chuckled, "They wanted to see which one of them could get the most detentions."
"Please tell me you're joking," Hermione's lips twitched with amusement.
"No, completely serious," although he didn't ask, Hermione could almost hear the why in his tone.
"Sorry," Hermione snickered, "It's just that Harry and Ron were arguing with Fred and George last week, about which one could garner the most detentions. They tried to do the Weasley twins and Lee versus the boys and me but I refused. Anyway, they each bet twenty galleons they'd win."
"I refused too," Remus admitted, "Me and Peter sat back and watched the entire thing unfold. They didn't find it as funny as we did."
"Did it stop them?" Hermione asked, looking slightly hopeful, "When they got caught?"
"No," Remus laughed, "They finished detention and continued on. Poor Minnie almost pulled out her hair."
"I'm doomed!" Hermione's shoulders shook as she buried her face in her hands.
"Afraid so."
