Chapter 7: A New Green
The next day, Eugene and Jasmine were getting themselves ready to go back to Hobart. Anya, their mother, agreed to go back with them.
"Well, I'm glad this ordeal is over." Said Anya.
"So are we, Mum." Said Jasmine.
"We'll definitely get by." Said Anya. "From this day forward, I'm going to be a true mother to you."
"You always were, Mum." Said Eugene. "But let's not talk about….. you-know-who for a while."
Lydia came in to see what her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law were talking about. Suddenly, she felt something.
"Eugene. It's time!" Lydia cried.
"Not time to go back to Australia, is it?" Asked Anya.
"No!" Said Lydia. "My water just broke!"
"Good grief!" Cried Eugene. "Come on, Jasmine, Mum! We're going to the hospital!"
Some minutes later, at Sparkyville Hospital, Anya and Jasmine were in the waiting room.
"I can't believe it!" Exclaimed Anya. "I'm going to be a grandma any minute now!"
"And it's hard to believe I'll be an aunt soon!" Added Jasmine.
As they said this, Tommy, Polly, Sally, Harold Angel, Charlie Brown, Heather, Linus, Janice, Forest, Mimi, Rerun, Katie, Violet, Shermy, Patty Swanson, Percy Pen, Peppermint Patty, Roy, Marcie, Franklin, Scarlet, Spearmint Sammy, Polly, Floyd, Lucy, Schroeder, Mary Stewart, Frieda, Clive, Terese, Flora, Russell, Cormac, Sebastian and Charlotte Braun came in.
"So, when's the baby born?" Asked Charlie Brown.
"Any minute now." said Jasmine.
"Hey, everyone." Said Eugene. "I am proud to inform you all that I am now a dad."
"I'm an aunt!" Cried Jasmine.
"I'm a grandma!" Added Anya.
"Come on. I'll show you." Said Eugene.
Everyone came in, and there, in Lydia's arms, was a little baby with a lot of dark brown hair on its head, wrapped in a blanket with pink, yellow and blue stripes.
"It's a girl!" Said Lydia. "I had a girl."
"In honour of her aunt," said Eugene. "Lydia and I have agreed to name her Lime Emerald Green."
"Congratulations, Son!" Said Anya, and hugged Eugene. Anya felt proud to be a grandmother.
"She's so adorable!" Said Sally.
"Sally." Said Lydia. "Since we've been good friends for as long as I can remember, I want you to be the godmother of my little girl."
"Aw, thanks, Lydia." Said Sally.
Then Sally thought.
"I hope to become the godmother of Eudora's child one day if she ever has any."
"And Tommy." Said Eugene. "I want you to be my daughter's godfather."
"Really?!" Said Tommy. "Thanks!"
Later, everyone went into the cafeteria after looking at Emerald's niece, Tommy wanted to deliver the news.
"Everyone." Said Shermy. "I want you to look at Violet's ring."
Violet showed off the amethyst ring she had been given the day before.
"Shermy took me to the baseball field and then….. he asked me to marry him! We're engaged!" Violet said happily.
"Congratulations, Shermy!" Said Patty Swanson.
"Yeah. Congratulations, Shermy old buddy!" Added Charlie Brown.
"Thanks, everyone." Said Shermy.
"And after we finish our food, let's get another look at Eugene's little girl." Tommy said.
That evening, Eugene looked up at the night sky. His friends had already left the hospital.
"So, Eugene." Said Lydia. "Aren't you going to look at little Lime again?"
"Well, I am already looking at her aunt." Said Eugene. "In the vast night sky."
Eugene looked deeper into the night sky, knowing that Emerald lives in him.
"Eugene." Said Emerald in spirit. "You have a cute little daughter. How I wish I'd lived to see my little niece, but due to Daddy's negligence, I couldn't. Please, if you find any problems with your daughter, treat it ASAP. Don't make the same mistake Daddy made with me."
"I will, Sis." Smiled Eugene. "I will."
