Chapter 5

Biana

"I should probably go" said Tam, trying to edge his way out of the awkward situation, "You can talk to him on yo-"

"No! Please." I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. It was going to be okay. I would just sort things out with Dex and then we'd go back to being friends. Hopefully.

"I'll need help trying to fix this," I added.

"And you think I'm the best option? I mean, I probably just broke Dex's heart!"

"It wasn't your fault," I argued, "I'm the one who should've noticed our different views."

"Well, I still won't help, even if I tried. Go ask Sophie. She has a LOT of practice with drama. And she's Dex's best friend."

"I guess that makes sense." I grudgingly admitted.

I went to look for Sophie and found her with Keefe, both of them eating and laughing with Fitz, Lihn, and Marella. I walked over to them, ignoring the tempting custard bursts and ripplefluffs.

Sophie noticed me. "Biana! Hey! Where have you been?"

I sat down in between Sophie and Fitz, forcing my brother to scooch over.

"Well, I was dancing with Dex, then I talked to Lihn," Lihn winked. "Talked to Tam, accidentally broke Dex's heart…"

Silence.

Sophie was the first to talk. "What happened?" she asked in a hushed tone.

Keefe fanned the air. "Sophie, you SERIOUSLY need to chill. One, I'm getting sick from all of your worry, and two, the Dexinator will get through this. Besides, how'd you break his heart?"

"Well…. " I went on, explaining everything except the part where I asked about Tam liking me. I could tell Sophie that later.

When I finished the story, Sophie started to tug at her eyelashes. "That's a lot to process."

"It is," Keefe agreed, "Don't you think so, Marella?"

Marella sighed, resting her forehead against her hand, "Please don't,"

"Uhh, am I missing something here?" I asked, frowning in confusion.

"Yeah," Linh replied, "You definitely are. But this doesn't really concern me, so I'll get out of your hair." She grabbed Fitz's hand, and the two left the table. We all watched them go, until I remembered what I needed to be doing.

"Seriously, what am I missing?" I glared at Keefe and Marella, "What happened?"

Marella wrapped a loose strand of hair around her finger, "Well…me and Keefe kind of told the whole school that you were dating."

"Actually," Keefe interrupted, "It's Keefe and I. Also, Sophie told me first!"

"Don't blame me!" Sophie exclaimed, "Dex told me!"

"Wait, Dex told you that we were dating?"

Sophie shook her head quickly, "No, but he did say you were going as more than friends. The dating is something that those two made up." She glared daggers at Keefe and Marella, who both managed to look slightly ashamed.

"Well, that's just wonderful. Now the whole of Foxfire thinks me and Dex are dating! Wow!" Not to mention how awkward it would be between me and Dex, now that he probably liked me, and he probably knew I liked Tam. Despite my irritation at him for not double-checking with me, I couldn't help but feel terrible for him. Hopefully he'd find someone who was good enough for him. Not someone like me. I had been a horrible friend to him.

But then again, I also REALLY wanted to punch him in the face. And Keefe. And for that matter, Marella. But I couldn't do that. At that moment, I had more important things to do.
