In Mondstadt, Lumine threw herself into training with the Knights of Favonius. Her days were spent alongside fellow recruits. Noelle, a tireless maid whose strength was unmatched and Amber, the lively Outrider-to-be and expert glider, become her most valued friends.
Every day Lumine would visit the library and would always run into Noelle studying a few tables away. Lumine would approach Lisa, the librarian, asking for a certain book only to discover that Noelle had it at her table.
Lumine walked over, "Uh excuse me?"
Noelle instantly looks up from her book, "How may I be of assistance?"
Lumine is taken aback but points at the book, "I was just wanting to borrow that book for the assignment." Noelle quickly gives it to Lumine. Lumine hesitates, "I can use it when you are done with it."
Noelle blushes with embarrassment, "Oh well I'm sort of struggling with this section."
Lumine sits down and offers help. The two slowly day by day would sit next to each other helping each other study. Noelle would bring tea and Lumine would bring treats.
Lisa would come occasionally giving advice, "Remember girls some things in the test are found in these books." Or "Taking a break from studying is always needed."
There would then be times where Lumine would make sure to go to the library when she knew Noelle was busy with other tasks. Lumine used these rare moments to search for information on elemental beings or sprites anything similar to Zephyr.
Lisa looked over at Lumine one time she was alone, "No study partner today?"
Lumine shook her head no. Lisa would creep closer looking at the books Lumine was so invested in, "Myths and children's stories? You know this isn't likely to appear on the Knight exam."
Lumine shift uncomfortably in Lisa's gaze, "Uh…personal research."
Lisa just chuckled, "Personal research? Going to join the Akademiya in Sumeru?" Lumine just looked at her confused so Lisa continued, "Just remember, most monsters aren't as friendly as your stories might suggest."
Lumine was super impress with Amber's gliding ability. Amber looked like she was born with wings when she equipped a glider. Lumine watch her flight in longing. A strong sudden wind blew Amber unexpectedly onto Lumine.
"I'm truly sorry. That should never have happened."
Lumine just shrugs, "It happens to me all the time! I just can't get the hang of this,"
Amber eyes lit up and Lumine isn't so sure what is about to happen, "Then as the three-time winner of the Gliding Championship, I feel like it is the winds of fate pushed us together for me to teach you!"
A few days pass without this ever being brought up then one day after class Amber bounded by Lumine, "Come on it's time for your lesson!"
Amber swept Lumine away out of the city into the nearby fields, "I've made us an obstacle course! This is the best way to learn! In action!"
And so, it went day by day. Lumine felt she was slowly getting better but always felt awkward and never graceful. Amber always kept telling her she was getting better.
On their walk back to Mondstadt one night, Lumine causally askes, "Why are you joining the knights?"
Amber sadly at Mondstadt then to the land where Decarabian's tower is, "I join because of my father. He was…is…a loyal defender of Mondstadt but on patrol one evening he disappeared without a trace."
Lumine looking over at Amber, "I understand. I joined because of my brother. I don't know if he became a knight but I know he made his way here. I was getting frequent letters from him but then months past with not a single word."
The days past and quickly it's time to get of Mondstadt and see Zephyr. Lumine takes her glider with her on this outing to Starsnatch Cliff. It should be the perfect conditions for using the glider. Once there the ever-curious sprite, is all rearing to have Lumine fly around with it. Zephyr lends surprisingly some aid if Lumine feels herself losing the hang of it and starts to faulter. Zephyr is chirping all the way and Lumine can't help but laugh she thinks she got it. Cruising around the cliff a sudden strong burst of wind blows Lumine far astray. She sees the barrier approaching much too quickly. The angry wind means to drive her into the fierce wind barrier.
She can't help but scream, "Zephyr, Help!"
She hears frantic chirps behind her and sees the sprite once or twice before she can't see it anymore. Panic rises in her and as she is getting taken higher into the air and close to the barrier. She tries with all her might to turn the glider around but her the glider refuses to respond to her. She is all alone. Until she feels as if someone was giving her a hug, the warm wind ebbs her panic and calms her. Finally, she is able to turn it back to land.
The wind around her seems to speak, "You are safe. There are winds that will always protect you."
She slowly lands safely back on the ground of the cliff. She turns around looking for Zephyr who suddenly appears flapping its little wings quickly at her almost causing her to fall. She jokes, "I think, we should take a break, huh?"
Lumine's skill with using the glider really takes off. She shows off when Amber takes her back to the obstacle course. Lumine just feels like she understands it now.
"Oh, my winds, Lumine! You practiced during your time away!" Amber claps when Lumine finished the course.
Lumine just shrugs and with a large smile, "Why don't we try the course together?"
Amber laughs, "You are so on! I got to see where you are because I am starting to worry that my champion status is about to be stripped from me."
They leap and begin the course. Amber is very much ahead but Lumine feels like she is flying now. Like she got her wings back. Then suddenly she is ahead of Amber. She hears Amber's laugh behind her. When Lumine touches down she gives Amber the biggest smile, "I did it!"
Amber grabs her in a hug, "You did! Since you beat me, I should let you in on the ultimate secret. The most important thing to remember, is to have courage!"
Amber lets her go and Lumine feels like she just gains a friend. See see's a spark in Amber's eye and already knows what she is about to ask, "Want to race back to Mondstadt?"
Lumine smirks back, "You are on! Loser has to buy the other a drink at Angel's Share!"
Lumine and Amber count down and are off. Lumine is quite ahead but as she looks over the field and the woods below. She notices a small bright white figure glowing. It starts moving excitedly up and down at her. Lumine can't help but smile down at Zephyr hiding out just on the edge of the woods. With a few more excited spins, the sprite disappears and Lumine feels enveloped in a warm breeze. She feels at peace and relaxes so much that she doesn't even notice that Amber has passed her. The breeze guides her all the way to the back gate.
Amber laughs, "Looks like I got myself a drink!"
Lumine strolls up, "Yeah, I kind of got loss in the feeling of true freedom."
Amber hooks her arm around Lumine's arm, "Yeah gliding does that! Come on now buy that drink!"
Despite her growing friendships, Lumine slipped away every few days to meet Zephyr. The elemental sprite showed her untouched corners of Mondstadt—hidden glades, pristine streams, and hills where the wind sang its own melodies. Lumine loved seeing these parts of Mondstadt. It was a much-needed experience than the ones she would get on patrol: broken houses, villages destroyed by cursed winds, and children afraid to venture outside. She amounts it to a nation being torn together by two raging strong wind forces and not the gentle winds that she knows come from ones like Zephyr.
Zephyr gifted her two feathers, which she later finds a way to add them to her hair. Lumine shared tales of her training and played new songs on her lyre, delighting in Zephyr's joy. Every place they have visited together are marked on her map for her to come some other time. One day with Zephyr she adds a little star next to all the locations: Starsnatch Cliff, falls by small village Springvale, a remote cliff overlooking the woods. Each of these locations are special the more and more she is with Zephyr the more she picks up on the how these areas feel. She can't explain it but the air is different, the winds calmer and loving even.
Lumine looks over at the little happy sprite as it dances in the wind. She is most at ease with it. They have a language almost all their own through music. Lumine starts to play the lyre again. Her friends in Mondstadt don't know she plays, she never plays for anyone but herself, her brother (mainly to annoy him), and now this little sprite. It is soon for them to depart from this quite lake. Zephyr leads her all the way back chirping all the way in its own language. Before they depart, they agree to meet up again at Windrise.
