Author's note: Hi guys. So…Total Drama. Yeah, I thought I was done five years ago too. But, over the years I'd been thinking of doing another one (maybe more? We'll see) but with a more thematic cast (as in, the cast would all have something in common, in this case, the teams consist of characters from three different companies). I should just mention as well: THIS WILL NOT BE CONNECTED TO MY OTHER TOTAL DRAMA FICS! This is a completely separate series with completely separate characters (well, except for Chris and Chef…and one of the competitors). As far as my choices of characters go, I decided I didn't just want ones from my childhood, so I went with one male and one female character from the 90s, 00s, 10s, and 20s for each team, so they'll each be starting with eight team members (and holy crap, I had to stretch the definition of what was acceptable for some of these characters). Anyway, some of these characters I'm going to be learning about literally as I write this fic, so hopefully I do them justice (I thought I'd have more time to get this one ready). Anyway, enough from me, let's hear from Chris.
The camera focuses on the dock of Camp Wawanakwa, where there stands a single man. The camera zooms in to focus on him.
"Hello, and welcome to Camp Wawanakwa," said the man. "My name is Chris McLean, and I'll be your host for the brand-new reality show: Total Drama Island. In a few minutes time, we'll be meeting twenty-four campers whose goal will be to survive the summer, competing in gruelling tasks against each other for the chance to win $100,000."
The scene cuts, and now Chris is walking through the campgrounds. "The three teams will compete in challenges every three days, and at the end of each challenge, the winning team will win a prize, second place will get nothing, but they also won't lose anything, unlike the last place team, who will vote off one of their team members at the dramatic Campfire Ceremony, where everyone except the unlucky loser will receive a marshmallow."
The scene cuts again, with Chris walking through the woods. "We have hundreds of cameras set up all over the island, so you will be able to see every action-packed moment in high definition when it happens. Or at least, whenever the episode comes out. We couldn't afford to pay our editors to work that hard."
The scene cuts again, this time Chris was sitting in the Mess Hall. "The teams will have all their meals prepared for them by five-star cook Chef Hatchet, who we're only paying enough to make two-star meals, so they'll have to deal with that too."
"It's not so much that you're only paying me to make two-star meals," said Chef, who was putting some kind of grey 'meat' on the grill. "It's that you're only giving me low grade food to work with."
"Eh, same difference," said Chris.
The scene cuts again, and Chris is sitting in an outhouse. "Our contestants will also be able to reveal their deepest secrets in this state-of-the-art confession cam. Of course, by state-of-the-art, we mean we duct-taped a camera to the door."
The scene cuts again, to show Chris is back on the dock. "But now, shall we meet our competitors? Hint: the answer's yes, because I control the show, and you don't." As he was speaking, a boat's motor could be heard, and soon a boat came into view. "Our first contestant was designed by her mum to save the world. That's right, she's not a human, but a robot, please welcome Jenny."
The boat pulled up, and Jenny leapt over the railing and onto the dock, causing it to rock ominously. "Was the boat really necessary?" asked Jenny. "I can fly."
"It makes for a cooler entrance," said Chris.
"What, and coming down from the sky doesn't?" asked Jenny.
"Look, everyone is arriving by boat, power of flight or not," said Chris. "Speaking of which, here comes contestant number two. She's a witch from the Boiling Isles in the Demon Realm, give it up for Luz."
Another boat pulled up, and Luz jumped onto the dock. "Whoa, long boat ride," said Luz. "Hi Chris, how's it going? Is this my only competition?"
"Well, no, you're only the second one here," said Chris. "There's still twenty-two more competitors to get here."
"Well, in any case, I'm sure me and…" started Luz, before looking at Jenny confused. "Err, what's your name?"
"Jenny," said Jenny.
"Well, I'm sure me and Jenny will get along well, even if we're in competition," said Luz, elbowing Jenny in the ribs playfully, only to wince in pain and hear a hollow metal sound. "What the…"
"I'm kind of a robot," said Jenny.
"Huh, makes sense," said Luz.
"You know what else makes sense? Introducing our next competitor," said Chris, as the next boat pulled up. "He helped saved the world from Weirdmageddon with his twin sister, but now venturing out by himself, please welcome Dipper."
"Hi Chris," said Dipper as he got down to the dock. "Great to be here."
"Great to have you here Dip," said Chris. "Are you looking forward to this?"
"Honestly, I'm just looking forward to doing something normal for once," said Dipper.
"Oh boy are you on the wrong show," said Chris.
"Why? What's wrong?" asked Dipper.
"Well, I'm a witch and she's a robot, for starters," said Luz.
"Wait, what?" asked Dipper.
"And our next competitor is a dragon," said Chris.
"SAY WHAT?!" yelled Dipper.
"Magical protector of New York City, please welcome Jake," said Chris.
The next boat pulled up, and a black-haired boy jumped off. "What's up guys?" asked Jake.
"He doesn't look very dragon-like," said Dipper.
"Oh, just you wait buddy," said Jake. "I'll be flying circles around you in this competition soon enough." Jake walked past Dipper, who'd noticed the other two on the dock. "Hey ladies."
"Uh…hi?" said Jenny, confused.
"Hey, how's it going?" asked Luz, shaking his hand enthusiastically.
"Oh, I can see we'll get along great," said Jake. "Maybe I'll even be able to help you get to the final two with me." At that, Jake winked at Luz.
"Oh, you're trying to flirt with me," said Luz, letting go of him immediately. "Sorry, but I already have a girlfriend."
"Girl…wait…" said Jake, realising what she'd said.
"And now, our next contestant," said Chris. "She's Hazelnut Middle School's proof that being a great visual thinker doesn't necessarily make you a great thinker in general, please welcome Pepper."
Another boat pulled up, and Pepper jumped onto the pier. "Hey Chris," said Pepper. "Quick question: what the heck was that introduction?"
"Hey, your teachers sent me some report cards, you're not exactly Einstein," said Chris. "Luckily that's not necessarily a bad thing here."
"Why you…" said Pepper, rolling up her sleeve.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down there," said Jenny, casually dragging Pepper to the end of the pier with the others.
"How are you this strong?" asked Pepper, still struggling against her.
"I work out, what do you think?" asked Jenny, tapping her metal chest to make a point.
"And now, here comes our next contestant," said Chris. "It doesn't matter where or when there's trouble, call her, beep her if you wanna reach contestant number six: Kim."
The next boat pulled up, and Kim front flipped over the front and landed perfectly on the dock. "Chris, I take it?" asked Kim, shaking his hand.
"Indeed it is," said Chris. "Welcome to Camp Wawanakwa."
"Well, it's a lot better than Camp Wannaweep," said Kim. "Far fewer mutant fish men." Kim paused for a moment. "There aren't mutant fish men here, are there?"
"We're reasonably confident there aren't," said Chris. "No promises about Bony Island though."
"Great…" said Kim, walking down the pier to join the others.
"Wow, two redheads in a row," said Jake, slicking back his hair. "What do you say Dip, one for you one for me?"
"What are you talking about?" asked Dipper. "There's only one redhead for me, and she's back in Gravity Falls."
"All the more for me then," said Jake, taking two steps forward before Luz (who'd heard every word he said) stuck her arm out and clotheslined him.
"And now for our next contestant," said Chris. "The third wheel to a superhero duo consisting of his little sister and her hamster, please welcome Kevin."
Another boat pulls up, and Kevin jumps down onto the dock. "Hey Chris, glad to be here," he said.
"Glad to have you, man," said Chris. "Just try not to get too outclassed by the other contestants and you'll be fine."
"Why? They look like perfectly ordinary people," said Kevin, walking down the pier to join them.
"Yeah, except for the robot, the dragon, the witch, and whatever schtick Kim has," said Dipper.
"I'm just a cheerleader," said Kim.
"Are you though?" asked Dipper suspiciously.
"…I might also fight crime," added Kim.
"Hey, I help my sister with that all the time," said Kevin.
"And Ron helps me fight crime all the time, so I think we'll get along fine," said Kim.
"Speaking of weirdos, let's get the next one out here," said Chris. "His molecules may have been rearranged by his parent's strange machine, but soon we'll find out if he stands a 'ghost' of a chance in this contest, please welcome Danny."
The next boat pulls up, and Danny leaps off, landing on the pier. "Hi Chris," said Danny, hi-fiving the host as he walked past.
"What's up dude?" asked Chris. "Are you looking forward to this?"
"Honestly, it'll be a good change from trying to hide my…err…secret from my parents," said Danny.
"Well, as long as you don't reveal it in front of one of the hundreds of cameras around the camp, you'll be fine," said Chris. "Or you can hope they don't watch the show."
"…I'm not getting that lucky, am I?" asked Danny.
"Noperino," said Chris, as a dejected Danny walked past him. "And now for our next contestant. Her parents own a farm on the balcony of their big city apartment, please welcome Annie."
The next boat pulls up, and Annie disembarks, followed by a small horse. "Hi Chris, how's it…"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on a minute," said Chris. "I don't remember saying you could have a horse with you."
"He's my…err…emotional support animal?" said Annie.
"Aren't emotional support animals normally dogs?" asked Chris.
"They were…err…out of dogs, and all they had was a pony?" said Annie unconvincingly.
Chris looked at her with suspicion. "Hmm…I don't think that's true, but I also don't have enough of an understanding of the support animal system to refute it," said Chris. "So, since it's discriminatory to exclude someone due to their assistance animal, I guess I'm going to have to allow it."
"Thank you," said Annie, leading Pony to the end of the pier with the others.
"Wow, that was a pretty convincing story Annie," said Pony.
"I'm not sure that it was," said Annie. "But as long as you act like emotional support, you should be fine."
"Alright campers, time for contestant number ten," said Chris. "He left Beach City to find himself, and somehow that involved him coming here. Please welcome Steven."
The next boat pulled up, and Steven jumped down to the pier. "Hi Chris," said Steven, shaking his hand. "So, this is where the fun's happening is it?"
"Sure is," said Chris. "Hey, before you join the others, just checking: are you gonna be okay? I've heard about your past…shall we say 'experiences', and I gotta say…"
"I think I should be fine," said Steven. "Connie's been helping me come up with some ways of coping, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about."
"Well, if you're sure…" said Chris, as Steven went to join the others. "Now for our next contestant, fresh off the Centrium, let's see how he copes with being back on his home planet. Please welcome Elliott."
The next boat pulled up, this time with a young boy who excitedly jumped onto the pier. "Hi Chris," he said, before turning to face everyone else. "Hi everyone. You guys ready for adventure and fun?"
"Heck yeah," said Steven, hi-fiving Elliott as he joined the group.
"Well, you seem like fun kiddo," said Luz, giving him a fist bump.
"Wow, two new friends already," said Elliott. "I already like this place."
"Oh, sure, when the kid wants to be friendly you become best friends, but when I try to do it…" started Jake.
"The kid doesn't seem to have an ulterior motive," pointed out Danny.
"Quiet you, I could take you down with one hand behind my back," said Jake.
"I wouldn't be so sure," said Danny.
"And now to finish the first half of our contestants," said Chris. "Taking a break from changing the world by commanding the elements to her will, please welcome Korra."
The next boat pulled up, and Korra leapt over the railing, calling up a gust of wind to cushion her fall. "Hi, what's up?" she said, high-fiving Chris.
"Great to have you here Korra," said Chris. "You think you'll be able to handle all the other world-savers in the group?"
"Pfft, please," said Korra dismissively, walking down the pier to join the others.
"Well, let's get into the second half of our list, shall we?" asked Chris. "The gentle giant himself of Third Street Elementary School, please welcome Mikey."
The next boat pulled up, and Mikey disembarked. "Ah, what a peaceful place," said Mikey, casually strolling down the pier to join his fellow contestants.
"Oh, just wait," said Chris. "Chaos won't be too far away."
"Surely not," said Mikey. "I mean, we're all just here to have fun and make new friends, right?"
"You are maybe," said Danny. "I'm here to win."
"I'm fine with just making friends," said Elliott.
"See, I've made one already," said Mikey, wrapping an arm around Elliot.
"Well, let's see how well that works for you," said Chris. "In the meantime, here comes contestant number fourteen, who's…umm, is the boat on fire?"
"Uh, I don't think so," said Jenny, focusing on the incoming boat. "It seems to be…some kind of dark aura?"
"Well, I guess that makes sense when you hang around the Grim Reaper all day," said Chris. "Please welcome Mandy."
The boat stopped, and Mandy walked off. "So this is my competition?" asked Mandy. "Not impressed. This is in the bag."
"I wouldn't be so sure," said Chris. "I mean, among this group are geniuses, superheroes, magic wielders…"
"Like I said, competition is in the bag," said Mandy.
"Good confidence," said Chris. "But what have you got to counter what they can throw at you?"
"The knowledge that they know what I'll do to them if they try anything," said Mandy, walking down the pier to join the group.
"That girl is scary," said Dipper.
"I'm sure she's fine," said Steven. "She just needs to make a friend here." Steven strode up to Mandy, and held out his hand. "Hi Mandy, I'm…" he started.
"Not interested," said Mandy.
"Hey, come on, I just want to be friends," said Steven.
"Ugh, don't use the f-word in my presence," said Mandy with disgust.
"But…the only f-word I said was frie…" started Steven.
"I said DON'T!" snarled Mandy, making it clear this was not up for debate.
"O…okay," said Steven, backing off.
"Our next contestant really loves time," said Chris. "And by that, I mean he's very attached to his watch. Seems a bit alien to me. Please welcome Ben."
The next boat pulled up, and Ben jumped onto the pier. "Hey man, how's it going?" he asked, high-fiving Chris on the way past.
"Not bad man, not bad," said Chris. "Good luck in the competition."
"I don't need luck," said Ben. "I got this." In response, Ben flashed his watch. "Besides, my cousin's the 'lucky' one."
"Alrighty then," said Chris with a shrug. "Our next is a fan of the Charles Abraham Discussion Hour, and closely follows the stock market. Oh, and she's also only seven years old. Please welcome Jessica."
The next boat pulled up, and Jessica tried to climb over the railing. "Um, is it safe to jump down there from here?" she asked.
"I mean, most of the others have," said Chris. "But there's a gangplank if you think you're too little to make it."
"I am NOT little," said Jessica, and to try and prove her point, she jumped from the boat to try and land on the pier.
"WHOA!" cried Chris, running to catch her before she could hit her head on the pier. "Sorry kid, I don't feel like starting this series off with someone getting a concussion. It's an annoying amount of paperwork."
Jessica muttered something under her breath as she went and joined the others.
"Well, with that taken care of, let's meet our next contestant," said Chris. "With five older and five younger sisters, this man really does need a plan, please welcome Lincoln."
The next boat pulled up, and Lincoln jumped down to the pier next to Chris. "Yo, how's it going?" asked Lincoln, striding up the pier to join the others.
"Good luck man," said Chris. "You're gonna need it against some of the guys and girls we've already introduced."
"Oh please, I can handle ten sisters, I can handle this," said Lincoln.
"Would you like to explain what you mean by that?" asked Kim, who looked at him threateningly with Annie, Jenny, Jessica, Korra, Luz, Mandy, and Pepper.
"Err…hey Chris, who's the next contestant?" asked Lincoln.
"Hey is right," said Chris. "Coming all the way from the streets of Hillwood, please welcome Arnold."
The next boat pulled up, and Arnold disembarked. "Hello Mr. McLean," he said, walking up the pier to join the other contestants.
"Hey Arnold," said Chris. "Feel free to call me Chris, nothing on the island is too formal."
"Oh, okay, sure," said Arnold, walking down the pier to join the others.
"Well, that's three quarters of the contestants down," said Chris. "Contestant nineteen has made it his sworn duty to make P.S. 38 'awesome', and believes he can do it with just his presence. Please welcome Nate."
The next boat pulls up, and Nate jumps off. "Thank you Chris, but I prefer to go by Big Nate," said Nate, casually strolling by.
"Kid, you are four and a half feet tall," said Chris, before shrugging his shoulders. "Whatever, let's get the next contestant here. She usually lives with her family who travel the world to film nature documentaries, but for now she's here with us, please welcome Eliza."
The next boat pulls up, and Eliza disembarks. "Hiya Chris," said Eliza. "Hope you don't mind that part of the reason I'm here is to scout things out for my dad. He says apparently there's been sasquatches sighted in the area, and he's really excited to possibly have the first one on camera."
"You're welcome to try," said Chris. "But I'm not sure how keen Sasquatchanakwa is to be on camera."
"Sasquatchana…wait, have you MET a sasquatch?" asked Eliza, looking stunned.
"He's not exactly hard to miss," said Chris casually, indicated near the cabins where something big suddenly ran into the woods.
"Holy crap, I've gotta…" said Eliza, starting to run after it before Chris grabbed her.
"Oh no you don't, there'll be time for that later," said Chris, pointing down the pier to the other contestants.
Eliza grumbled under her breath, before noticing Pony and Annie. "Oh hey," said Eliza. "How's it going?"
"Um, okay?" said Annie, confused why Eliza seemed to be talking to Pony instead of her.
"You seem like a good pony," said Eliza to Pony. "Do you like your owner? Is she nice?"
"Uhh…neigh?" said Pony, trying to avoid being outed as a talking horse.
Eliza looked at him in confusion. "Did you say 'nay' as in 'no'?"
"What are you talking about?" asked Kim. "It's a horse, they neigh."
"But, uh…" said Eliza, trying to figure out what she wanted to say without revealing her ability. "Didn't it sound...odd, to any of you?"
"Just sounded like a normal horse to me," said Nate.
"In any case, why are you talking to the horse like it can talk back?" asked Ben.
"For that matter, isn't it considered rude to touch another person's service animal?" asked Jessica.
"I…uhh…" stammered Eliza, not sure how to answer these questions.
"Hey, it's okay," said Annie, coming to her rescue. "As Chris said, she travels a lot. She probably doesn't know this stuff like we do."
"Oh, uh, thanks," said Eliza, still unsure what the deal was with her pony.
"Okay, only a handful more contestants to bring out," said Chris. "Our next contestant is a princess from the Kingdom of Mewni, with plenty of dimension hopping magic to boot. Please welcome Star."
The next boat pulled up, and Star leapt off the boat, landing with a crouch, wand already in hand. "Hi, what's up?" asked Star, straightening up.
"Enthusiastic, aren't you?" asked Chris.
"Well, you know," said Star dismissively. "Gotta make sure everyone knows what they're up against."
"Fair enough," said Chris. "Though it should be said you're hardly the only superpowered person here today."
"Ooh, trying to make it harder for me, are you?" said Star, joining the others.
"Something like that," said Chris. "Well, time for our next contestant. Taking a break from saving the city of Townsville with her sisters, please welcome Buttercup."
The next boat pulled up, at about the same time a green streak appeared on the pier in front of it. "HA! Beat it," said Buttercup, fist-pumping the air.
"Eh, I'd say it was a tie," said Chris.
"Says you," said Buttercup. "Who are you to make calls like that anyway?"
"I'm literally the host," said Chris, as Buttercup floated past to join the others. "Well, let's meet our second last competitor: a boy genius who has had to keep his laboratory locked up from his sister Dee Dee, please welcome Dexter."
The next boat pulled up, and Dexter strode down the gangplank quickly. "Greetings Chris," he said, not even slowing his pace.
"Uh, hi?" said Chris, though Dexter ignored him as he made his way to joining the other competitors. "Well, I guess it's time for our last competitor. After being on such a long train ride, I'm sure she's relieved to be travelling by boat now. Please welcome Tulip."
The final boat pulls up, and Tulip jumps off. "Hi Chris," said Tulip. "Happy to be here."
"Happy to have you," said Chris, as Tulip went down the pier to join the other competitors. "Well, now that everyone's here, let's get a group photo for the promo, shall we?"
"Uh, can we do it on the beach or something?" asked Jenny.
"Why's that?" asked Chris.
"Because I weight 600 pounds, and based on the average weight of a normal child, multiplied by twenty-three, plus a pony, and the fact this pier is made of wood, I'd say it's going to collapse in…" started Jenny, before a loud snap was heard. Jenny grabbed Jessica and Dipper (who happened to be the closest to her) and kept airborne, while Ben, Buttercup, Danny, Korra, and Jake all used their own methods to keep themselves and a contestant or two from falling in the water. Despite this, around half the contestants still got wet.
"Hmm…I see your point," said Chris, walking back up the non-destroyed part of the pier back to the shore. "Okay, dry off and meet me in front of the cabins in ten minutes."
"I already hate everything about this place," said Mandy, hanging onto a piece of the broken pier.
"Aww, someone's a grumpy bum," said Star teasingly, making to pinch Mandy's cheek, before Mandy tried to bite her.
Half an hour later, the contestants were gathered in front of Chris outside the Mess Hall. "Okay campers, it's time for the first challenge," said Chris. "Naming your teams."
"We don't even know who's on our team," pointed out Korra.
"Which is why I'm about to announce that," said Chris, waving a piece of paper he was holding. "Do you think I'm holding this for fun? Anyway, Team 1. As I call your name, move over to the side there. You will consist of…Mandy, Buttercup, Steven, Ben, Dexter, Elliott, Tulip, and Jessica." Upon finishing the list, Chris threw a sheet of fabric, which was caught by Steven.
"What's this for?" asked Steven, unfurling it to see that it was just a blank piece of white material.
"To make a flag once the challenge starts, duh," said Chris. "Anyway, Team 2, you guys stand over there. You will consist of…Luz, Star, Mikey, Kevin, Dipper, Jake, Pepper, and Kim." Chris threw another sheet of fabric, and it was caught by Kim.
"So I guess we're Team 3?" said Eliza.
"Hey, I'm supposed to announce it," said Chris angrily. "Ahem. So, Team 3 will consist of…"
"Me, Eliza, Lincoln, Danny, Arnold, Nate, Korra, and Annie," said Jenny before Chris could finish.
"Uh…yeah, that," said Chris, throwing the third sheet of material to Danny. "Typically, teams would be named with an adjective followed by a noun, generally an animal, but I don't really care what you call yourselves, as long as it can be shown on TV."
"Ooh, I know plenty about animals, I'll name our team," said Eliza.
"Shouldn't it be a group decision?" asked Annie.
"Hey, if she has a good idea, I say go with it," said Nate.
"Okay campers, your time starts…NOW!" announced Chris, blowing a whistle. "You have one hour."
"So, what kind of animal will strike fear into the other teams?" asked Korra.
"I think we go with a classic," said Eliza. "A lion."
"A lion? Really?" asked Lincoln. "Did you really think none of us would think of that?"
"It's not like it's a bad idea," said Danny. "Is anyone here good at drawing?"
"It probably doesn't have to be great," said Arnold. "As long as it gets the point across, it should be fine."
"Great, get me some orange paint and I'll get started," said Nate.
"Wouldn't it make more sense to use yellow paint?" asked Jenny.
"He's welcome to be wrong if he wants," said Annie, handing the bucket to Nate.
"Thanks…wait a minute…" said Nate, realising what she said.
Meanwhile…
"I don't understand why you think our team mascot should be a mouse," said Pepper.
"Because you don't need to be a big tough animal to be scary," said Mikey. "Sometimes being small is more than enough."
"Says one of the biggest guys here," said Luz.
"Hey, come on, that's just rude," said Dipper.
"And he's not entirely wrong either," said Kim. "I know a rodent who happens to be one of the smartest creatures I've ever met."
"Same here," said Kevin.
"Come on guys," said Jake, transforming into a dragon. "I'm literally the perfect creature for the team mascot. Just draw me."
"Sorry buddy, looks like you've been overruled," said Star, grabbing some blue paint.
Meanwhile…
"I think we should go for a logo that shows our team's intelligence over our might," said Tulip.
"An excellent idea," said Dexter. "Beat them with brains over brawn."
"You guys can do that if you want," said Buttercup, punching her hand. "I can take any of these guys out if I wanted to."
"We'll worry about that when and if we need to," said Jessica. "In the meantime, what are we calling ourselves?"
"Chess is really smart, right?" asked Steven. "Can we do something with that?"
"Yeah, something about finishing them in chess," said Elliott.
"I believe that's called a checkmate. Could that work as a team name?" asked Ben.
"Look, I only grabbed the black paint, and I refuse to grab anymore, so whatever you call yourselves better reflect that," said Mandy, sitting down with her arms crossed.
Later…
"Okay campers, let's see what you came up with," said Chris. "Let's start with Team 1. What did you call yourselves?"
"We are Team Checkmate," said Steven, holding up a flag with two squares on it, one black, one white. In each square was a letter of the opposite colour.
"Very nice," said Chris. "Quick question though: why are you using the letters 'C' and 'N' as opposed to 'C' and 'M'?"
"Because SOMEONE…" started Mandy, glaring at Buttercup. "Insisted that she be allowed to make the letters."
"Hey, I'm in kindergarten, I'm still learning the letters," said Buttercup.
"The rest of the team knows how to spell," said Tulip. "You could have sat back for this challenge, I'm sure there'd be something else you'd be good for later."
"Look, it doesn't matter," said Ben. "Just give us two minutes, we'll fix up the flag and…"
"Too late, this is your flag now," said Chris, as their flag was superimposed over the group.
"Great, now everyone's going to assume we're illiterate," said Jessica.
"Next, let's look at Team 2," said Chris, moving over to them. "What have you got for us guys?"
"Team Power Mouse," said Star enthusiastically. "Just look at how awesome our logo looks." Star threw the flag over to Chris, who unfurled it to have a look.
"Interesting," said Chris. "But, uh, what do three circles have to do with mice?"
"Silly Chris, clearly that picture IS a mouse," said Star dismissively. "Look, there's his ears, and that's his face."
Chris continued to look at the picture with a frown. "Well, if you say so," said Chris. "You guys are now Team Power Mouse." The Power Mouse Logo then got superimposed over them.
"Still think something to do with dragons would have been better," muttered Jake.
Meanwhile…
"Man, after those two teams, we're not looking so bad," Danny.
"Yeah," agreed Lincoln. "Plus, our lion doesn't look too bad."
"Oops…" said Jenny behind them.
"…please tell me that had nothing to do with the flag," said Korra.
"…it might have had something to do with the flag," said Jenny, holding it up.
"What did you do?" demanded Nate.
"I accidentally knocked the paint over, now it looks like…" began Jenny.
"Some kind of orange splatter," finished Chris, who'd joined them without their notice. "What is that supposed to be exactly?"
"Well, it WAS a lion," started Eliza, glaring at Jenny. "But then…"
"We felt it needed something more," said Arnold calmly. "We couldn't decide whether to have it be in motion or to be more of an interpretive piece, so we combined the two. Sadly didn't come out how we'd like though."
Chris considered this for a moment. "Well okay then," said Chris with a shrug. "Anyway, what's your team called?"
"Oh, uh…" started Eliza, realising they hadn't discussed that. "We're the…uh…"
"Team Golden Lions," said Annie.
"Yeah, that," said Eliza.
"Okay, sure," said Chris. "Even though your logo is orange, you're the Golden Lions." And with that, the final team's logo was superimposed over them. "Well, with all the team's decided and named, let's break for lunch, and then we'll get into the first real challenge."
"What do you think he'll have us do first?" asked Mikey.
"I doubt it'll be anything too bad," said Kim. "It's only the first challenge."
"Or maybe he's planning to make a bunch of the early challenges really hard before randomly throwing in an easy challenge to make us suspicious about how easy it is," said Luz.
Confession Cam: Chris
"Okay, I have no idea how she guessed that was what I was planning, but they can now say goodbye to the candy-eating contest challenge."
Later…
