It was Tuesday as the Dreemurr siblings took their time into making sure they grabbed their lunch sacks before waving goodbye to Goat Mom and heading for the school building. As soon as lunch time came, Frisk left their friend group with a nervous and hasty goodbye. None of them had an idea about what the reason may be. Chara, for one, was getting frustrated.
"Hey Azzy, can I talk to you about something?" Chara asked him at recess.
"Sure! What is it?" Asriel replied. Chara hesitated a moment before speaking.
"Have you noticed Frisk has been acting...weird?" Chara queried.
"Hm, now that you mention it, they do seem a little off."
"She always leaves at lunch and recess, and we don't see her again until class! It's kind of worrying..."
"Should we ask her about it?" Asriel questioned.
Chara contemplated his brother's question for a moment. He was trying to figure out the right thing to here. Should they confront her? Despite knowing that she trusts them, Frisk could be a little... secretive sometimes. She wasn't usually one to hide her problems, but from the way it was looking, it seemed she wouldn't tell them if they were to ask her. If they wanted answers, they were going to have to get them another way. Suddenly, Chara got an idea.
"Y'know what? Let's keep an eye on her."
"You mean spy on her?" Asriel asked, a little surprised.
"Yeah, pretty much," Chara said flatly.
"Sounds like something you would do, but are you sure?" Asriel questioned. He didn't think they should be watching her; Frisk was perfectly capable of handling herself or whatever she was doing.
"Come on Azzy, it won't be that bad," Chara remarked.
"Well, ok. I guess it can't be that bad," Asriel said hesitantly.
"Great! Then let's go," Chara said and yanked on his brother's hand, pulling him along. Chara walked around the school yard, dragging Asriel in tow, until they saw a purple-striped, blue shirt a few yards away. It was their sister's no doubt, and they hid around the corner wall of the school building.
"There she is!" Asriel whisper-yelled, not wanting to attract too much attention to themselves, despite the face they were looking pretty suspicious standing behind a wall. "And look, she's with...Carl?"
Chara narrowed his eyes and kept watching the two. Wait, three. Nope, four.
"Some of Carl's friends are starting to show up," said Chara, trying to make out what they were saying.
"Nice to see you're still holding up your end of the bargain, freak," Carl said with a smug grin on his face as Frisk approached. "I was almost sure you'd bail on me, but then again, you'd do anything for your precious monsters you call 'family'."
"Let's just get this over with," Frisk sighed.
Carl's grin widened as he glanced toward his friends, giving them the signal as they approached her. "Gladly," he said, venom in his tone.
...
Meanwhile, as the two brothers watched from afar, Asriel's brow furrowed in concern.
"Hey, what's up?" Chara asked, turning to face him.
"It's just... I don't know. I'm getting this bad feeling," Asriel confessed. "I just hope nothing happens with Frisk. What if things got... handsy?"
Chara laughed a bit at that. "What, you think Frisk would do something like that? She wouldn't hurt a fly!"
Asriel looked down at his feet, avoiding eye contact. Chara's smile faded and he put a hand on his goat brother's shoulder.
"Did... something happen?" Chara asked, his eyes filled with curiosity. Aside from the genocide routes, Frisk would never hurt anyone. She wasn't even acting on her own will during that time period, anyway. Asriel took a deep breath before he spoke.
"About a year after monsters started living on the surface, before you came into the picture, Frisk and I were at a basketball court near the park," Asriel began. "Then, some teenagers came up and started calling us names, saying that monsters shouldn't be allowed to live on the surface. One of them... hit me and Frisk just... lost it. Her eyes were red, and she beat the crap out of them. I kept shouting at her to stop but she didn't listen. By the time she was done, those guys were in really bad shape. Then, she looked at them with this cold stare. It was the kind of stare Mom gives us but... way worse. She grabbed my wrist and just walked off with me like nothing happened."
Asriel looked visibly shaken by the encounter as his eyes went wide as he recalled the events. Chara was surprised. No, scratch that, he was flabbergasted. Frisk did what?
"It was scary. She... she had never acted like that," Asriel mumbled audibly. "I know she was angry, but... I didn't think she would..."
"Wow. That's-That's definitely something. I don't blame her, though. I probably would've done the same thing," Chara said with a small laugh. Asriel gave him a smirk, but it faded as quickly as it appeared.
"Let's just hope it doesn't come to that."
...
Frisk had done this before. She had let them beat her up and she was okay with it. She would do this five times a day if it meant her family wouldn't get hurt. A chill ran down her spine, making her shiver, as they encroached upon her. As one went in for a punch, something awakened inside of Frisk. It was a feeling, distant but familiar. An instinct almost. A certain resolve. She realized she had felt this before, growing stronger the more dust covered her hands. A primal instinct. The will to live. The resolve to survive. How as this feeling grew, the harder it was for others to hurt her, and the easier it was to hurt others. Determination. She came back to reality and reacted quickly, catching the boy's fist.
"What the-" the boy started. Frisk slowly turned her head to face him and locked eyes. Her irises glowed a bright red color and a twisted, creepy smile crept upon her face.
"Tch. Pathetic," she scoffed and threw the boy's fist back, causing him to fall flat on his back.
"What the hell?!" Carl yelled, his ego overpowering his instincts which screamed at him to run. "Are you insane?!"
Frisk turned to him at the sound of his voice, her eyes piercing into his.
Chara and Asriel were watching this display, their eyes wide.
"Oh no."
