The Changer, The Charmer Final Chapter

Summary: Their mate was delivered to them in the midst of violence and blood, with a dire warning to boot.

Bella/Tanya, Kate, Irina

The wolves stood frozen as the vampires stared, eyes gleaming dangerously. "I believe it's time you went back to your side of the treaty line." Carlisle's tone had taken on an edge rarely heard.

Sam wanted to plead, but fear, as he'd never felt, had taken hold of every fiber of his being. "Get off our property before we intervene." Carlisle bellowed. Sam shifted, sprinting for the woods, the others quickly following their alpha.

The vampires entered the kitchen to find Carmen in her daughter's arms. The wolf's words had hurt them all. "He will pay," Bella growled.

"Hija…"

"No, mama, you cannot ask me to let this insult stand." Bella knew her mother had a forgiving nature, but not this.

"No, Isabella. I will not ask that. I only ask whatever you do; you do not take his life." She pleaded.

"I had no intention of doing such a thing, but I will make his life and the rest of that pack miserable until he prostrates himself before you," Bella swore. No matter how great the insult, taking a life was not her cup of tea, but wreaking havoc was something she reveled in.

"What's the plan?" Rosalie asked eagerly.

"First, it's obvious they are woefully uneducated about themselves," Bella said, her disbelief evident. "I cannot see any other reason as to why they would leave themselves open like that."

"What do you mean?" Carlisle asked the question on everyone's mind.

"The one speaking for them is not the true alpha." Carlisle was surprised Bella knew that.

"Yes, I believe he was simply the first to shift. The alpha and chieftain run in the Black family."

"Well, the boy not taking his position as alpha has left them open. In effect, any alpha command I give them supersedes his." Bella said absentmindedly, focusing more on the steak Carmen slid in front of her.

"Holy shit," Emmett mumbled. The implications of Bella's words hit hard. "They are so fucked." He added jubilantly.

"You can say that again." Tanya chuckled.

"So, she can shift into any animal or human?" Billy asked the quiver in his voice apparent.

"Yes, she can shift into a fucking table for all we know." Sam groused.

"Language." Billy snapped.

"Maybe, you haven't grasped the implications of Paul's actions. We are dealing with someone who can shift into any one of us. She could be a bird in the trees listening to our conversation as we speak." A shiver ran down Billy's spine at those words

"What is she going to do? It's not like she can come here?" Paul muttered arrogantly.

"We have a treaty with the Cullens, not the other vampires or her." Sam snarled, getting angry with Paul's blasé attitude. "Nothing is stopping her from coming across that line." He finished.

"How will we even know it's her?" Seth whispered. A quiet descended in the meeting room.

"Paul…" Quil Ateara III started.

Paul immediately cut him off, knowing where he was going. "I will not apologize for speaking the truth if that's where this is going. Leeches can't have children. Her human family is dead, and these things took advantage, brainwashing Bella into thinking she is one of them." He argued. "If anything, we should be planning a way of getting her out of there."

"It appears you are blinded by the desire for someone who would sooner rip you apart than even look at you. Do as you please, but I can guarantee you, eventually, you will see sense. However you view it, she sees that vampire as her mother, and you insulted her." Leah mumbled as she walked out.

"Maybe if you had a mother, you would know just how much hurt you caused Bella." Jared threw at Paul, whose jaw clenched at the insult.

Sam was not the least bit surprised by Paul's response. Paul would only apologize when the reality of his actions hit him hard. Until Bella retaliated, Paul could not possibly see the folly of his actions. He was the alpha, and it was his responsibility to try and temper whatever Bella's response would be. He could not cross the line again without incurring the Cullens' wrath. Sam's desperation got him nowhere. His calls went unanswered. His request for a meeting went unanswered despite two days of trying.

Angela shifted in her seat; as hard as she tried, she could not focus on her book. She'd read the same page more times than she cared to admit. As a human with inadequate senses, compared to vampires. Angela could hear every moan, whimper, every swear word, and declaration of love uttered. So, she could imagine just what Edward could hear despite his unburdened appearance as he worked on his latest composition. "You can hear them, right?" She just needed to ask for her own sanity.

"When you've lived with mated couples for over half a century, you get used to these things." Of course, he would never tell her about the first time he heard Bella in the throes of passion. A few hours later, she had kicked the ever-loving shit out of him because his jealousy got the better of him. He also knew better than to tell Ange he could smell her arousal. Her constant need to move was only making it worse.

"How come I never hear the others?" Angela asked. Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"Because they are a floor below and are mercifully…" His voice trailed off when the noises finally stopped. "Lord help you when you become a vampire." He chuckled.

"You know, you could just lay her on the bed and eat her out." Kate teased. "Just hold your hands behind you and just let your tongue and lips do all the work." She added.

"Mind your own business," Edward growled under his breath.

"I'm happy to talk you through it if you need help. She never has to know." Kate kept goading him.

"Katrina, enough," Bella interjected, despite her amusement.

"What did she say?" Angela asked, surprising them all. "Oh, come on, as if I still don't know when you are talking. Your lips still move even if it looks like a horrible attempt at ventriloquism." She teased. The entire house burst into laughter.

"Angela, that was absolutely brilliant," Bella shouted. "Come on, I'm starving." Bella found she enjoyed having her meals with company that didn't just watch her eat.

"Go and hunt," Angela told Edward. He nodded, knowing he needed to hunt; he had already decided to go after Angela went to bed.

"How do you do it? Three mates and all females at that." Angela asked an amused Bella.

"Honestly, I've never thought about the fact that there are three of them. I know there are three of them, but it has never been an issue. They are all so different, and so is my relationship with them. I have a more playful relationship with Kate. Irina is very much the one to go to if I need to talk, she listens. Tanya still intimidates me, and if I need sense talked into me, she's the one for that." Bella laughed.

"Do you think it has something to do with her being coven leader?" Angela asked.

"Never thought about it, only because I love the fact that she does intimidate me. It translates into our sex life. She is very much the dominant one in the bedroom. Irina is the opposite… it's a nice balance." Bella smiled more to herself.

"And what of Kate." The question surprised Bella. Angela, she had suspected, would be uncomfortable with the conversation, yet there she was, asking questions. Edward would find an excuse to get out of dodge.

"Kate is very playful, likes to talk a lot, and if I'm being honest, I love it."

"Do you have a preference?" Bella had noted that Emmett's video game had stopped, and Rosalie was no longer flipping through her magazine. Tanya was the only one of her mates in the house. Everyone else was out doing one thing or another.

"Yes, it depends on how I'm feeling. For example, I needed cheering up after the encounter with the wolves yesterday, and Kate is perfect for that. If I had been feeling particularly vengeful and inclined to cause physical harm. Tanya would have been the one to get the job done. Kate would be just the wrong person for it…"

"She would probably incite more violence." Angela surmised correctly.

"No probably about it. Kate would." They both laughed. "How does that translate in the bedroom?"

"My God, you are going eat Edward alive." Bella laughed.

"Could have told you that," Rosalie said with a laugh.

"Kate is the first to want to try something new. As a shifter, the possibilities are endless, and Kate almost always comes up with some new idea. Even when there is the possibility I could end up hurting her." Bella answered with a shrug.

"Yes, Kate can be quite reckless." Tanya purred as she sauntered toward her mate. Bella was well aware of Tanya in the house. Except, out of sight, out of mind kind of situation was working for her. "So… tell me, Isabella, how does my ability to talk sense into you translate in the bedroom." She asked, in the same low and husky tone of voice she used in the bedroom. The one that had Bella jumping before she was even asked.

"That was actually my next question." Angela piped up, earning stifled giggles from Emmett and Rosalie.

Tanya threw her head back in laughter. "It would be a miracle if Edward survives you." Tanya ran her fingers through Bella's hair. "I need to hunt. Join me." Bella was out of her seat in a flash, much to Angela's amusement.

Paul was still smarting from Jared's words. It was common knowledge his mother had abandoned him early on in life due to his abusive father. To have that thrown in his face was painful. Whether he had a mother or not did not change the fact that, a leech could not bear children. Except, he knew that the ability to bear children did not make you a mother.

He shifted back into human form and pulled his shorts on with a sigh. At least this time, it stayed tied to his leg He caught sight of Leah getting out of Harry's truck. They'd never particularly gotten along, but he felt for her regarding the whole thing with Sam and Emily. He knew Sam felt incredibly guilty about it as he had handled things the wrong way. A part of Sam still loved her, but his imprint was his imprint. Paul was well aware of the fact that he had not imprinted on Bella, but he felt a pull to her that was clouding his thinking.

"Hey…" Leah murmured. "I heard about Jared and what he said. I believe you were wrong in what you said, but so was he. But here is the thing, Paul, from what Seth tells me, you refuse to talk to him until he apologizes, and yet you won't apologize to Bella's mother for a similar insult." Leah made sense, but fuck it, he just could not bring himself to apologize to a leech.

"Do you honestly think you have a hope of a chance with her, even if she hadn't already imprinted." Paul's head snapped to hers. "You didn't know." She realized.

"No, I…" He clenched his jaw in anger.

"Yeah, she already imprinted," Leah said softly as he aggressively opened his front door.

"Wait, how do you know about her already imprinting." Leah sat in his favored chair with a smile that had Paul ready to bolt for the door. Leah slowly shifted into Bella.

"Take a seat, Paul." He felt it; it was an alpha command, but how.

"If you kill me, you start a war." Paul blustered.

"I've been around for two hundred years; I have learned a few things in that time. Yes, if I kill you, I will become the number one suspect, but first, your elders and the pack will have to prove I did it. Something I promise they will be hard pressed to do. Do you know what's even better? Making you out to be a liar." Paul looked thoroughly confused. "Stand," Bella ordered. Paul practically jumped up. "Sit." He did as told. "Stand." Again he bolted up. Bella did that for the better part of five minutes. "Maybe you still haven't figured it out, but having an alpha that is not a true alpha, leaves you vulnerable to a real alpha. You will tell your pack I was here, but they will not see it when you shift, no matter how desperate you are for them to see it." Paul looked surprised she knew of their shared mind when phased. "The last few days, I have had my good friend Edward close to the treaty line listening in on you. You guys really are shit at this. I tell you this because you will not repeat it. In fact, the only thing you will tell them is what I want them to hear. You will appear to be a liar in front of the pack and the elders. I will do this until they get sick and tired of you. How many visits do you think it will take." Paul stood shaking, desperate to shift but unable, desperate to do something. Never in his life had he felt so helpless. "I could do any number of things to you, and there is nothing you can do about it. You will apologize to my mother and mean every word of it, or I will turn your life into a waking nightmare. Tell me, Paul, do you still have a hard-on for me?" With precise instructions given, Bella shifted into an eagle and flew out his kitchen window into the forest.

Sam, it was apparent, did not believe him. His story made little to no sense, and he knew it too, but no matter how hard he tried to tell them everything, he couldn't. "So, let me see if I've got this right," Sam murmured sarcastically. "You first thought it was Leah. Then Leah told you Bella had an imprint, and when you asked her how she knew… Leah shifted into Bella. Oh, and before that, she talked about Jared." Sam sighed.

"How would she know about Jared?" Leah asked.

"I don't know; maybe she was a grasshopper in a tree listening." Paul bellowed.

"No, we had shifted when we talked about that. Unless Bella was linked in, but we would know if someone else was in on our mind link. You can't hide anything in a mind link." Embry said.

"That's it," Jared said. "We shift; we see everything." Sam smiled. Paul knew if anything, this was going to be the final nail in his coffin.

The uproar that ensued when the wolves returned to the meeting room had the elders scrambling to get away before someone accidentally shifted again. Paul was adamant he was telling the truth, refusing to admit he had lied.

One wolf stood back, watching as the pack and the elders shouted at Paul and each other. Jacob could not help but admire the genius of Bella. Whether she genuinely shifted into Leah or not, the chaos that had ensued was nothing short of brilliant. This was a mind fuck of epic proportions. He watched as Sam gave up and left the room in defeat.

Sam was bone tired which was a new feeling since becoming a wolf. Yes, they got tired, but never enough to make every movement hurt. He struggled to keep the peace, and the elders were no help. The likes of Billy, Harry, and Kevin believed Paul despite all evidence to the contrary.

His tiredness suddenly became a thing of the past at the sight of Bella. She wasn't alone, her hand on the small of the back of one of the vampires. "Bella, can we talk?" He asked politely.

"Why are you always the one talking. I understand you are all new to this, but if I'm going to talk to anyone, it's the alpha of your pack." Bella said dismissively.

"I am the alpha." Sam groused.

"Are you?" Bella laughed. "Well, let's see, shall we. Kneel." Sam dropped to his knees in shock. "You are the alpha, right? Yet, I could leave you kneeling here for the rest of the week if I so choose. That is not a possibility with a true alpha." Bella stared down at him. "Stand." Sam quickly got on his feet. At that moment, he realized Paul could have been telling the truth but could not tell them everything due to an alpha command.

Bella got into an SUV with the vampire and drove off without a backward glance. Sam reached into his truck and called Jared. After the nightmare that was yesterday's meeting, he wasn't keen on another so soon, but this was a must.

"It doesn't matter whether Paul was telling the truth or not," Sam shouted over the voices.

"Like hell, it doesn't." Paul snapped.

"Shut up and sit down," Sam commanded, having had enough of him. This was all his fault.

"As I was saying, it doesn't matter. This has shown us that any true alpha can take command of this pack." Sam's point had the very impact he expected, anything less, and he was dealing with a bunch of idiots.

"Dear, Lord up above," Quil murmured, eyeing Jacob. Either his best friend owned up to his responsibilities, or they were screwed.

"It seems young Mr. Black, you have no choice but to take up your role as alpha," Harry mumbled.

"Well, when it came out, Mary Poppins critically received universal acclaim from critics. Although, it did less than half the box office of The Sound of Music," Bella said, her head resting on Irina's lap.

"See, the public liked The Sound of Music more." Angela cheered, sticking her tongue out at Edward.

"True, I prefer The sound of Music, especially the music." Kate jumped in.

"Oh please, it only had four songs repeated throughout the film." Edward kept arguing.

"I prefer My Fair Lady," Bella mumbled more to herself.

"We are talking, Julie Andrews." Angela groused.

"Actually, Julie Andrews performed in the original Broadway production and was nominated for a Tony. We saw the play; she was practically perfect in every way." Bella chirped, earning a groan from Alice.

"I remember your uproar over the casting of Audrey Hepburn." Tanya chuckled.

"She could not even fucking sing." Bella raged.

"Isabella, no need for such language," Carmen warned.

"I had to talk you out of threatening Jack Warner," Tanya remembered fondly. The lively debate was disturbed by the phone ringing.

"It's the damn mongrels again," Rosalie growled. Carlisle, this time answered the phone.

"This is becoming really tiresome," Carlisle grumbled.

"I'm sorry to disturb your evening Dr. Cullen. This is Jacob Black, but I was hoping to speak to Bella." Jacob greeted politely.

"Well, that is new," Emmett whispered.

Bella took the receiver from Carlisle. "This is Bella."

"Hello, thank you for taking my call. I wanted to ask when an appropriate date and time was to bring Paul over to apologize for his insult to your mother."

Bella had to admit, she was shocked; she had expected a few more visits to the reservation before anything of substance happened. "Anytime tomorrow is fine with me."

"Thank you. We will see tomorrow at midday. Again, thank you." Jacob ended the call.

"Did not see that coming so soon," Bella mumbled.

"It looks like the true alpha has taken over." Eleazar smiled.

"The threat of a stranger having control over them would do that." Kate laughed.

"I will admit, I did not expect this from Jacob," Carlisle admitted.

"I don't think anyone did," Alice added.

The everyone's surprise, the wolves approached in human form, with Jacob Black leading the pack as expected. With Sam right behind him. Bella wondered what the new alpha had said to prompt this apology. "Good afternoon, and thank you again for seeing us." Jacob greeted. "Paul." He bellowed. Two members of the pack pushed Paul forward.

"I let my desire for your daughter cloud my thinking. All I saw was a beautiful woman I could not have because she was tied to vampires and let it get the better of me. It's clear to me now…. Her love for you is apparent because of your love for her. No one would defend their mother as fiercely as she had if that mother was not worth it. I am sorry for my callous words and the hurt I know they caused. I am sorry." Bella glanced at Edward, who nodded. The apology was surprisingly heartfelt; Bella knew he meant it before she checked with Edward.

"Thank you for the apology," Carmen said.

"One more thing," Bella mumbled, walking down the steps. Were Paul human, the punch he took would have taken his head clean off. As it stood, he only lost a couple of teeth and had a broken jaw and cheekbone. The kick to his nuts lifted him off the ground. He hit the ground, howling in pain.

"Hija, that's enough." Carmen knew if she didn't stop her daughter, Paul would be a bloody broken mess by the time she was done with him.

"Let this be a reminder to think with your head instead of your dick next time." Bella threatened.

"I will catch up with you guys." Jacob dismissed the wolves. Paul struggled to get up, but he managed it, glaring at his alpha, who could care less.

"How did you manage it," Carlisle asked.

"It was either he apologized sincerely, or he left the pack. They insisted I had to take over as alpha. Well, I warned them if I took charge, what I said was law, and the council would no longer have a say in how the pack was run." Bella smiled; she truly respected his stand.

"Indeed, I'm the same with my pack." Bella quipped, earning a slap to the back of the head. "Ouch, grow a sense of humor, would you." She grumbled, moving to stand behind Carmen as Tanya advanced.

Jacob looked thoroughly amused. "I will see you around. You are free to come down to the reservation anytime." Bella was surprised by the invite.

"You know what, I will take you up on that." She said, surprising herself.

"Men, that boy will be pissing blood for weeks." Emmett chortled.

"It was less than he deserved." Kate piped up.

"One of these days, you and your mouth will get Bella in trouble." Irina groaned.

"What! I'm saying what everyone is thinking. Rose, back me up."

"I agree. A few more broken bones would have taught him a lesson." Rosalie high-fived Kate. Her words had the four blondes in a fierce argument.

"Jasper, you should join the blonde dissent; they clearly need a tie-breaker." Bella teased. Jasper growled and shot after her, Bella quickly shifted into a hawk and was out the door. Knowing he had no hope of catching her, Jasper sat back down.

"When the cat is away, the mouse…" Bella murmured, coming up behind Irina.

"How Carmen thinks you are still this sweet little girl is beyond me." Kate chuckled. The family had just returned from Edward and Angela's wedding without Carmen and Eleazar. Eleazar decided to take his wife on a long vacation. Bella had a villa in the South of France, after all.

"Do you want me to be the sweet darling Carmen thinks I am?" Bella purred.

"You are for me." Tanya teased.

"Yeah, well…." Bella had no idea how to respond to that, much to the amusement of her mates.

"Do you remember when she used to hide behind things staring at you," Kate said, to Bella's utter horror.

"Oh, come on, I was three," Bella argued.

"Wow, Isabella, you are so far removed from the woman that you leave me virtually boneless after sex." Irina teased.

"Wow, I want this boneless experience." Tanya quipped.

"No, fuck no, you stick to your side of the fence," Bella shouted, earning a raised eyebrow from Tanya, which had her sinking into her chair.

"I'm going to call mama and tell her you are bullying me." Bella stood.

"Isabella, come back here." Bella bolted for her phone, quickly shoving it into her pocket, and was swiftly out the door. "Isabella." Tanya threatened, not that it did her any good. "Get that phone." By the time they got outside, the leopard was disappearing through the trees.

AN: That is the final chapter for this pairing. The next pairing, hopefully, will be Bella and Heidi.
