This story is a bit of something that I've had in my head for a couple years now. The Grail war stuff isn't a factor in this universe of the realm of heroes. Just whats relevant to Mordred and her back story.
Chapter one: Homunculus returned from the dead
Doctor Desmond was a busy man with his researh into project blockbuster when he was alerted by the entrance of Gaurdian to his lab. "Doctor the acrheological finds from the British dig site have arrived."
"Finnally. I dont know why the board of directors were so adamant on finding that lost battle ground. What did they say to look for again, a womans skeleton among the dead?" He said annoyed.
"That is correct, and we did find a womens skeleton wearimg armor. Couldn't find her sword though." Gaurdian said a the genomorph gnome on his shoulder horns glowed red. "Project Camelot was the name the directors gave it correct? Shall we walk and talk on the way, their unloading the artifacts as we speak.
"Yes, they want to clone the Lost King Arthur." Desmond said.
"Then why would we need a womans skeleton? Pardon the misunderstanding if there is any, but King Arthur was a man." Gauduan asked confused.
"According to some legends she was not. Only manteling the name and garb of a man to be the king of Camelot. Seems that those legends were true. And that she was incredibly powerful." Desmond said as they arrived at the new lab space built for project Camelot. "The body of the dead King. Begin extracting what Dna we can. The council will have their new weapon. If it proves viable we'll mover it to the same chamber as Kr. After the disaster with the first superboy clone haveing an additional measure to fight him will be useful."
'Where am I?' Was the first thought to cross her mind. She could remeber her... her death at the blade of... she couldn't remember. It was cold as she felt like she was floating. Float yet she could breath... something was giving her air... it was cold... it was all cold. She couldn't open her eyes as she curled up into a ball. Then it all faded to black again.
When next she awoke, she was laying on... something hard. She was no longer wet. But... her mind was clearer. She remembered Camelot... her father, her mother, the war. The destruction of her home, the round table. The knights. Destruction she caused. The Burning of Camelot.
She smiled.
She smiled for she must have survived her father's final blow. That she must be recovering in some church or hospital.
Then the images came flooding into her mind. Strange cities, languages, maths, people. Cadmus, that she serves the Light. Injected right into her mind yet she could not move.
This torment would not stand she would not relent. Yet as the images passed she realized they were teaching. History, dates people places. Nations she had not heard of.
She relaxed. Information. She had died... yet those that brought her back, they thought they had saved... no not saved... cloned her father.
But she was not her father. She was his killer.
She gritted her teeth, the immobility leaving frustrating awake yet frozen still inplace. She had spent how long trapped in paralasys she could only guess. A fortnight, two... three? She had no sense of time trapped. Yet she was aware of those around her. And came to the understanding of who had brought her back. A company named Cadmus, ran by a doctor Desmond. He held her fury the most. He saw her as a weapon for his precious board of directors. He still believed he had cloned her father.
Once she was released she would teach him the wrath of the red knight. But for now she understood she was in a chamber with something refered to as The Superboy or project Kr. A boy cloned to replace someone called Superman. Not that it mattered to her, though in a strange sense incomforted her that she was not alone.
One day as she rested on the cold steel slab she could hear the foot steps of some doctor fade away when loud crashes and the door shutting. Thats when three new voices to her spoke up. "Great now were locked down here." A boy said, some what higher pitched and annoying. like he was between boyhood and becoming a man.
"And were too deep literally and figurativly. We are to far underground for communications to reach the league." A older boy said well into the coming of age.
"Uh guys... look at those." A much younger kid said. 13 or of winters of age if she made a guess.
"Big K little r The atomic symbol for krypton." The first one said.
The sound of somthing activating "That's a clone of Superman. Solar suit allows him to absorb solar rays even at night.
"And the girl?" The older one asked.
"On it Kaldur, that's Project Camelot... and its a clone of... King Arthur!?" The youngest said surprised. "Both were grown in 16 weeks.
"King Arthur was a cute chick?" The annoying one asked. She wanted to cave his head in already.
There was silence for some time before the gnomes that fed her information touched her mind once again. This time with a order. "Capture the intruders." Desmond's voice rang in her mind.
"No." Was her response
"This is wrong set them free. Robin." Kaldur said.
"They made slaves of them. Weapons." The annoying one added.
"On it." Robin said as the hold on her body was finally released. Clenching her fist her red magic sprang to life coating her in her armor. "What is she doing?"
As her eyes opened she could see once again. The superboy lunging for her 'rescuers' As hee helm closed around her face she rushed forward. She was clear of mind but clearly Superboy was not. Ramming her shoulder into his mid section he was launched into the wall.
Robin was a short black haired boy in what to her looked like a jesters costume with no hat. colorful, red yellow green and blacks. Kaldur was a tall dark skinned teen with blonde buzzed hair and gill on his neck wearing a red and black outfit.
The last was a red and yellow wearing teen with bright red hair. "Well atleast she's on our side."
"Shut it Kid Flash." Robin reached for something on his belt. "Are you on our side..."
The helmet of her armor vanished as she shook her hair out. much too long for her taste. "If your going to get me out of this hell pit. Then yes. And for your information..."
She was cut off as Superboy let out a roar of anger and launched himself at her His fice connecting with her cherk sending her sprawling into the large metal door.
Kaldur grabed one of his water bearers and swung at Superboy with mace, only to have his wrist grabbed and swung into Robin while Kid Flash ran at him. Back handing the speedster before grabbing grabbing him and slamming him into the ground.
She activated her magic circut to summon her sword as she stood up. Only for a fist to find her stomach, then her throat, then her chin in a powerful upper cut as she slammed into the ceiling and was knocked out.
Blinking herself awake she was locked in chains as she looked up at Kaldur, Robin and Kid Flash in strange machines. Her bindings gave her no free movement. Standing not far from them was Superboy.
"Hey she's awake." Kid Flash remarked. "Real great of you to treat her like you did. I mean she wanted freedom and now your both stuck as slaves to Cadmus."
"I'm nobodies slave!" She yelled as his trying to break the restraints. "Bloody shackels... Ill kill who ever put these on me!" She then noticed something else. "Who stripped me of my armor!"
"Yeah. Be more like her. Superboy, we can show you two the sun the moon, introduce you to superman, you just have to free us." Kaldur said.
"No they can't your both my property... property of Cadmus.You aren't a real boy and girl. And I'm disapointed that all that effort in the clone of king Arthur was a failiure. We'll have to wipe her mind clean, though its good to know that the late kind did have powers. The board of directors will be happy to learn of that." Desmond said as a g-gnome leapt onto sperbots shoulder. "Return to your pod. Superboy. Now... why did you go rouge..." The doctor said as he looked down at her. "Clearly... the gnomes control of you was limited."
"Thats because I'm not a clone of king Arthur. You created a clone of a humonculus. As such you brought that humonculus back. I'm not Artoria Pendragon" She glared right into Desmonds eyes. "I'm the knight that slaugtered my father. I'm Mordred Pendragon. Bastard Son of the king of Camelot." Mordred slammed her forehead into desmonds nose as she felt a wet cruch of carteledge and bone breaking as his blood sprayed on her face. She laughed wildly as he stumbled back. "Once I get out of these chains your dead!"
Desmond stumbed to his feet as Superboy watched. "Wretched thing... Ugh... the board of directors will be pissed."
"Oh go whine to your board all you want Desmond. I'll get you!" Mordred strained against the chains.
"Wow... she is not whelmed." Robin remarked blankly.
"Begin project sidekick perhsps watching her rescuers die painfully will help prove my point and get that one back in its pod." And superboy finally left Desmond was escorted off by a doctor as Gaurdian watched over. "Delete the source material after their memories are copied."
Mordred watched as prongs stuck themselves into the young boys chests as electric shocks ran through them. They scrwamed in pain as the knight continued to yank at her restraints.
Blood flowed into tanks beneath the three of them struggled. "Cowards!" Mordred screamed. Pulling at her chains the metal began to strech and deform. "I'll kill you!"
Thats when the door to the room slammed open. "What are you doing super ahhh!" Gaurdian said when he was thrown to the side into the console controling the machine stopping the harvesting of the young heroes.
"You don't own me." He growled.
"You here to fry us or save us." Kid Flash asked.
"Hmm... seems I don't have heat vision so saving you is my only option." Superboy said.
"Bought time you grew a brain." Mordred snapped from the floor as Robin unlocked his resstraints.
"Ugh Batman would have my head, Get Auqalad and kid Mouth, I'll free princess anger issues."
"I'm not a bloody princess!" The princess yelled.
"You don't give me orders." Super boy growled but he leapt up to Kaldurs restraints and broke them before also breaking Kid Flash free as well. Robin easily picked the locks letting the knoght stand again as the magic circut flared to life summoning her armor again and her sword this time.
"Lets get out of here." Kid flash said.
"I agree. The leaque needs to know." Kaldur said. "Mordred. Will you join us?"
"Of course I'll join you, idiot I want out of this place even more then you." She rested her blade on her shoulder. Her smile infectious. "Shall we go then?"
The five of them ran up through the tunnels as the genomoprhs lashed out at leam, leaping from side tunnels and out of the walls. The magic glowed around her sword as she slashed through them leaving bloody sprays against the walls. the creatures pulling their wounded to safety out of the magic blades reach. The thrill of battle rushed through her as her armored boot slamned into their chests and sent them sprwaling.
Reaching the elevator she lashed out with her blade fireing a slash of red energy that blew the doors open allowing them to rush into the verticle shaft. Kid flash dashing from wall to wall. Robin using a grappling hook and Super boy picking up Aqualad and leaping high into the air. Mordred funneled her magic into her legs as her armor vanished to shed the bulk and weight as she lauched her self up. Wearing her red and gold trimmed clothes she caught Superboys hand as he stared to fall back down at level 32. Pulling them onto the ledhe as Robin and Kid Flash caught up with them.
"Damn thats hot..." Kid flash saud as he looked at Mordred.
"I'll break your neck." She glared at him.
"Superman can fly. Why can't I fly?" Superboy asked.
"No idea but you can still leap tall buildings with a single jump. Still cool." Robin said with a smirk. Were gonna have to get out here." Robin said looking up as the Elevattor came down on them.
Superboy pried the door open and then exited out to a more... building like interior. The group took of running through the halls. "Left!" Super boy shouted as they turned left. "Right!" They came upon a dead end.
"Are you trying to get us back in pods?" Kid Flash asked.
"No this is perfect!" Robin smiled as he climbed up and opened the ventelation shaft. "In here." He said.
The five of them crawled into the shaft and began to crawl through the tight passage. "Come one hurry." Mordred said as she was between Kaldur behind her and Robin ahead of her.
"Wait... whats that?" Kaldur asked as he looked back.
"Genomorphs. Move" Superboy said as they moved faster. Spilling out of the vent Robin rushed to a access point in the wall as a holographic screen came up. "Taking the cameras offline... the the heat sensors and i hacked the motion detectors."
"And I finnally have space to move." Kid flash said as he took off running.
The four others followed him into a starwell and dashed up the metal flight of stairs. As they ran up the stair filled with more Genomorphs. Bashing them aside Suber reached the top of a flight of stairs and stomped his foot breaking the stairs off and cutting off the genomorphs.
Fighting their way up they reached the final sub level where Gaurdian was waiting with more of the genomoprhs and a host of massive g-trolls. Her armor reappeared as she readied herself for a fight. Only for a wave of nausea to pass over her and she fall to her knees next to super boy. She could hear a voice speaking to the clone. But it was muddled and unclear.
It felt like a few minutes till it was cleared away. She and the others standing as Gaurdians gnome leapt off his shoulder. "Feels like... fog lifting..." The man looked at them before his expression resolved. "Go, I'll deal with Desmond."
"Deal with me you say? No I'm surroumded by incompetence and traitors. Project block buster will help me restore order to Cadmus." Desmond said as he arrived holding a blue glowing vial Up ending the vial towards his mouth he swallowed the contents.
He doubled over and covulsed in pain. "That can't be good." Mordred said readying her blade.
"Stay back!" Gaurdian charged what was once Desmond as the scientist's body grew, ripping his skin like cloth. The monster backhanded Gaurdian knocking him out.
"Well that was helpful." Robin remarked as Superboy ran and tackled the creature only to be grabbed and thrown through the ceiling. "Think he planned that?"
"That monster isn't planning much of anything." Kaldur said as he and Wally leapt out of the hole, Robin using his grabbling hook and Mordred using her magic circuts to enhance her launch at the height of her arc her armor reapeared as she took her blade in both hands as red magic sparked off the blade.
"RAAAAAHH!" She roared as her mana burst in a aura around her Coming down she stabbed the blade through the creatures forearm. Kicking off a shower of blood sprayed onto the carpet. The creature launced its self at her when Superboy shouder tackled it and Kid Flash Got a running start as Robin threw explosives at it. The yellow clad boy made impact as the explosives made contact with its back sending the beast stumbling before the creature smashed a pillar out of frustration grabbing the yellow speedster and chucking him in the air out of Mordred's sight.
It swung at the knight whi tired to block the blow with the flat of her blade only to be sent off her feet and caught by Kaldur As the beast bore down on them slamming its fists into a water sheild, before Superboy tackeled it through another pillar as the while building quaked from the impact.
Robin and Kid Flash landed next to the two of them. "I got a plan." Robin said as a miniture glowing version of the room appeared. "We take out these pillars then blow the rest and boom we drop the building him."
"Destructive, I like it." Mordred said.
They split up Mordred and Kaldur busting down the needed pillars as Kid Flash and Superboy kept the creature busy. Robin vasihed from Mordred's sight with a laigh but she was focused after easily blasting through the last pillar she turned he attention to a large X marked with chalk on the floor as Aqua lad and Kid Flash Spread water to it as Superboy punched the beast with a roar. Robin threw a bolo tying its legs together making it fall and slide along the floor. As it started to get up Kaldur charged lightning from his tattoos.
"Magic circuts..." Mordred said to herself. seemed sorcery was still well alive. Auqa lad electricuted the water and the beast as the explosives detonated bringing the ceiling down on the creature... and them.
Grouped up the rebellious knight growled as she poured all her magic into her sword speaking her most poweful spell.
"Blood Clarent!" The pouring of her mana into her weapon unleashed a blast of red magic from the blade cutting and obliterating the rubble falling onto them in a blinding display of light that cut open the night heavens. And as soon as it started it vanished as she fell to her knees out of energy. Her armor disapearing.
"Mordred!" Kaldur put a hand on her back.
"I probably should have led with that..." She laughed a bit. "Been a few centurres since my last fight. Need to... properly train this new body too." She looked up at the moon.
And as she watched people appeared from the sky. Too numerous for her to describe. But a handfult stood out to her.
A ravin haired warrior woman with silver bracers and a golden lasso A gold red and blue leotard with wihite stars, a man with the air of a king in orange and green scales with a golden trident, A man dressed in all black and grey with the symbol of a bat on his chest. A large muscular man in red and blue with the same S sheild on his chest as Superboy. And a man in a full skin tight red outfit with a similar lightning bolt design to Kid Flash.
"Wwll would you look at that The moon and super man, don't we keep our promises or what?" Kid Flash said with a smile.
A man in a suit and top hat walked forward hus eyes locked on Mordred. "That sword... your a homunculus..." He said looking her up and down as super boy walked forward. Stoping infront of the Justice Leauge he held up part of his ripped suit to show the S on his chest.
Superman was not pleased to see him. Her own heart felt a twing of sympathy. She knew well what it felt to be rejected by their father.
"Are they what I think they are?" The Batman said. His name coming to mind from the images that wete fed to her.
"I am Supermans clone."
"I am Mordred Pendragon, brougjt back from the dead."
"Start talking." Batman ordered.
