Jack stared numbly into space, the phone clutched so tightly in his hand it's a wonder it hadn't shattered. The image of Ianto suffering so much pain…he'd been on the receiving end of electrical torture himself so knew the agony all too well…was replaying over and over again in his head, he was wracking his brain to work out who could be behind this.

"Jack, snap out of it" Owen reached to prise the phone from his grip, "we need to think of Ianto"

At the mention of his name Jack leapt into action, a look of grim determination on his face, his hand flying to his ear to contact the hub,

"Tosh, Owen is bringing Ianto's phone back to you now, run every scan you've got on it, there must be something"

"what are you going to do?" Owen asked as he readied himself to leave,

"I'll stay and look for clues, ask the neighbours what they've seen over the weekend. Some of them know me, seen me coming and going. Mrs Nelmes next door always gives me a wink since she heard… anyway I'll ask around"

Owen raised an eyebrow but chose not to comment. He knew Jack was talking for the sake of it now, trying to distract himself from picturing exactly what Ianto was going through as if his scream wasn't already pounding in Jack's skull like a drum. He busied himself searching through the flat, a pointless task as there wasn't a single item out of place, just as Ianto liked it.

"You better get going, Tosh could be able to track the call we can't waste any time"

"Maybe Gwen should come and meet you here then, I don't think you should be alone"

"I'm fine, Owen"

"Look, you're not fine"

Jack slammed his fist into the wall "of course I'm not fine, Ianto's going through hell and its all my fault! You heard her, whatever I've done to this woman, Ianto's the one suffering for my mistakes"

"What could you have possibly done for this…."

Jack chuckled bitterly, "I've lived a long life, Owen, and for most of it I haven't exactly been the picture of innocence"

"Jack I've found something" Tosh over the coms saved Owen from having to reply, "I tracked Ianto's movements on Friday afternoon, he never went home. In fact he never made it off the Plass"

"We'll be there in 5 minutes" Jack was sweeping out the door before Owen could blink, the other man rushing behind him breathlessly. He'd barely got the door of the SUV closed before Jack was screeching off towards the hub.

"What've you got Tosh?"

Jack charged over to Tosh's desk, his eyes fixed on the PC screen where Ianto was looking out over the bay, the timestamp showing minutes after Jack had kissed him goodbye. Gwen hovered behind the men, having confirmed with the police that there were no reported accidents over the weekend and ruled that out quickly, she was turning her copper's eye to any clues the footage could bring.

"It's blurry, whoever this woman is knew where the cameras were and positioned herself to avoid direct shots"

Jack watched as Ianto leaned over the railings casually, his body language completely at ease until a woman in a light coat approached him. She had gone completely unnoticed, a single passerby in an otherwise deserted area of the bay, until she had started speaking to Ianto. Jack saw the subtle twitch in his stance, his body tensing as he assessed the woman to be an unknown threat. He reached out towards the camera as he noticed the huge man creeping up behind Ianto, almost as if he could warn the young man of what was coming next. But all he could do was look on as Ianto was floored by what could be assumed to be a very fast acting sedative, then hoisted over the shoulder of the attacker and carried effortlessly towards the lane that runs down towards the quay, the woman pausing to look towards the water tower for a second more then blending back into the shadows. The whole encounter took less than 2 minutes, a pocket of time where not a single person was present to witness.

Tosh "From the way they're carrying him they must've had a vehicle waiting in that lane, they were confident they wouldn't be seen carrying an unconscious man through the streets. My guess would be a nondescript van, nothing anyone would notice if they walked past it "

"Shit they knew what they were doing" Owen murmured, "to get in position that quickly they must've known what time he'd be leaving, unless they've been watching all day"

"The van can't have been there that long" Gwen said, "traffic wardens have been clamping down in the area, they're patrolling hourly and making notes of vehicles parked around the bay to make sure they're loading only, or they slap you with a big fine"

"so they must've known Ianto's planned movements then, did anyone know what time he was leaving?"

"No he made sure not to even tell his sister a time, said she'd tear him a new one if he turned up late" Jack said, "he booked a train ticket though…. They've hacked into his emails or something maybe?"

"This is Ianto we're talking about, aside from Tosh he's the most tech savvy of the lot of us. There's no way his security isn't up to a bit of hacking"

"maybe they just took a chance that one of us would be leaving, they might want information on…"

Jack shook his head, "No this is more personal than that. Somehow, they know that Ianto is… that we're….she's got him in particular to get to me"

"Oh brilliant, so this is someone you've shagged and pissed off? That really narrows it down" Owen said snarkily, opening his mouth to rant further before being silenced by a cold glare from Tosh.

"That isn't helping" she said tightly, "Jack let's just focus on finding him, yeah?"

Jack nodded, taking a deep breath to steel himself before speaking,

"Ok, Gwen get on to traffic, if they were doing spot checks see if they noted any plates in the hours leading up to them taking him. See if anything matches the suspected vehicle"

"Yep got it"

"Owen, work with her, cross reference any information they can give you into the surrounding cameras"

"Will do"

"Tosh, focus on Ianto's phone see if there's any way of triangulating the call signal. No luck with the CCTV footage outside his house Friday night?"

"No they were all down for maintenance, bloody typical!" Tosh said tensely, "I'll see if I can track the phone signal, did you say he texted over the weekend?"

"Only once, late Friday night"

Tosh's nimble fingers flew over the keys, "Ok so if I can find out the approximate location where that was sent we can time where he was when…. got it!" she said triumphantly, "so the phone didn't start pinging off the tower closest to his home until his sister's 15th call on Sunday night, before that it was bouncing around as if someone was scrambling the signal…. Aha, you're not as clever as you think you are, missy" she grinned, "I can track his phones location to an approximate 16-mile square radius, somewhere around the Newport docks. Assuming they haven't moved him I can try narrowing the location but…"

"Got them! Grey transit van, noted around Harbour Drive by the traffic warden at 16:47 Friday, was gone by the time he looped back around at 17:32. God they've got accurate with their recording since I left the force… anyway, they got the plate, it's a fake registration but can still register on ANPR, it pinged off the camera on the dual carriageway and we can track it using the CCTV to…. Yep, right towards Newport docks. They might have moved him again after they dropped the phone off but its a start isn't it"

"Right, Owen Gwen with me, Tosh stay and coordinate"

"I don't know" Tosh looked at him, "this just feels a bit too…easy"

"Maybe you're just that good Tosh" Gwen said, trying to be helpful,

"No I just… I can't help but think this has the makings of a trap"

"This is Ianto, trap or not nothing is stopping me getting him back"

"I know Jack but be careful" Tosh called as they headed down to garage. Something was telling her that whatever was waiting for them in Newport was only the beginning.
