Bianca was late. Hil knew that he shouldn't have been surprised, but he figured that she would be able to arrive on time for this one day. But that wasn't the case, and so he and Cheren sat in his bedroom, waiting for her so they could open the box. The present had been delivered to the house early in the morning, so Hilbert didn't see who had delivered it, but it had clearly been from Dr. Juniper, since it said so on the gift tag. The other presents were downstairs, along with the cake, streamers, balloons, and all the necessary ornaments for a birthday party.
But they couldn't start without Hilbert's best friend being there, so he and his other best friend stared at the box and watched the clock tick by. Hilbert was almost about to say something to Cheren when they both heard footsteps on the stairs and a blonde showed up. "Hi guys, how's it going?", Bianca queried as she arrived into the room. "You're very nonchalant for someone who is completely late for the most important day of our lives," Cheren quipped back at her, clearly annoyed to have to wait this long to open a box. "Well, I was caught up in something and had to sneak out. You know how my dad is."
"Well then, let's get this show on the road!" Hilbert rubbed his hands in anticipation and the trio gathered around the present. "I think you should get to pick first, since it's your birthday." "Sure, if you insist." Hilbert opened up the box to find three Pocket Balls; in the top part of them, Hilbert could see three creatures that were staring up at him.
A green snake, an orange and black pig-like creature, and a light blue otter with a white head and a cream-colored shell on its stomach. Hil looked between the three of them with a fascinated look on its face. He had never seen Pocket Monsters like this before. He figured that Dr. Juniper had found them in hard-to-come-by locations. As he scanned between the three of them, he finally came to a decision and picked the ball that was in the middle.
He opened the Pocket Ball and revealed to Bianca and Cheren his chosen first Pocket Monster. "A Tepig was your choice!" Cheren then moved to the box and grabbed his Pocket Ball and opened it to reveal Oshawott. "So I guess that leaves me with Snivy", Bianca stated as she grabbed the last of the Pocket Balls. "Alright then, let's get this party started."
Bianca ordered Snivy into a battle stance and commanded her to use Tackle on Hilbert's Tepig. "Bianca, don't you think we shouldn't have a battle inside the house?" "Don't worry, we will be careful not to break anything". Hilbert responded by having his Tepig, who he decided he would call Ember, dodge the Tackle and countered with a Tackle of his own, striking a hit.
"Columbia, Tail Whip, then Tackle!", the Snivy whipped its tail in Ember's face, then leaped up to deliver another Tackle of its own. Ember flew across the room, but managed to land on its feet.
