This is my first fanfic in...honestly who knows how long? I have been writing this story for so many years, but never posted it because I wanted it to be complete first. I have way too many incomplete stories...Anyway, this story actually has an ending! Get ready for a 55-chapter book. It is basically a Season 1 of Danny Phantom, where Danny becomes a ghost without anyone's knowledge. It has an overarching plotline throughout, with a strong focus on Vlad Masters. I will post a group of chapters every so often - as I edit everything, but rest assured, you will get a complete story.

Chapter 1

Danny felt like his body was being turned inside out. Jolts of pain shot up every inch of his body. It was intense, excruciating pain he would never wish on anyone.

For a second, he thought it was the end. That his life was going to be over... Would he know he was dead? Would he just not exist anymore? It was a fleeting thought, which ended when he hit the ground with a loud thud and blacked out.

He eventually came to, but in his daze, he thought he may be dead. Can you still feel pain when you are dead?

He rubbed his neck as he stood and propped himself up against the wall. All around him was what appeared to be green fire. I never expected the afterlife to look like this. He could make out a light at the end of the tunnel and slowly made his way there. As he got closer, he realized it was the lab. Somehow he was still here. But was he really here?

When he got out of what he realized was now the working portal, he sat on the floor in exhaustion. It was then that he noticed his gloves were white instead of black and the hazmat suit itself was black instead of white.

"Huh, that's weird," he said aloud.

Footsteps echoed in the room as someone made their way down. "Danny? You down here?" It was his mom.

Panic made Danny jump to his feet. His parents would kill him if they found out what he had just done. They had told him to keep away from the portal. That it was dangerous. And after what he had experienced, he realized why.

His mother was sporting the usual teal hazmat suit, though her hood was down. "Dan-" she started to say, but as soon as she locked eyes with Danny, she stopped dead in her tracks. "Oh my God." The look in her purple eyes was not what Danny had expected. She almost looked scared - but there was something else in her eyes that he had never seen before. Like the way she might look at a stranger.

"I'm sorry," Danny began to explain. "I didn't know that-"

Then Maddie did something expected. She pulled up the gun on her utility belt and pointed it right at Danny.

He put his hands up and shook his head incredulously. "W-w-what are you doing?" He could barely spit out the words.

"JACK! I - there's a ghost! Come down this instant!"

Danny shook his head and furrowed his brows. He then caught a glimpse of his reflection in the computer monitor. His breath caught in his throat.

His hair was a startling shade of white, and his eyes...they were green! But most freakishly of all, they were glowing like a big neon sign. Not to mention the fact that his whole body had a white aura around it.

"No! Wait, this is all just a big misunderstanding!" Danny said, shielding himself from the ecto-gun, then suddenly, a burst of energy shot out of his hands, shooting just to the left of his mother, leaving a burn mark on the wall behind her. She quickly went into action, shooting right back at him. He dodged, hitting the ground hard.

He didn't have time to comprehend what had just happened. He had to get out. He wasn't himself. He didn't want to think any deeper than that at this point. He just needed to escape.

He began to crawl toward the lab bathroom, but Maddie jumped in front of the door, gun pointed at Danny's head.

"Stop right there, ghost!"

She began to shoot, but Danny jumped up and much to his surprise, he didn't land. He was flying. Without thinking of the impossibility of what was happening, he zoomed straight out of the lab as fast as he could.

In the hallway outside the lab, he felt himself losing control of his flight. He held up his arms to keep from slamming headfirst into the wall, but then he found himself tumbling on grass suddenly. How did I get out here? He thought to himself.

He gulped as he realized he had gone through the walls of his house and out to their backyard.

"This isn't happening. This isn't happening," he kept saying to himself. Suddenly, he saw his father making his way to the gate. He tried to phase back into the house, but it wouldn't work. He turned toward his father, fear overwhelming him.

Danny watched in amazement as his father passed right by him without even looking his way. It was as if he was -

He looked down where his hands should be, but they weren't there. Well they were there, but he couldn't see them. He was invisible.

He gulped again. But then he had the idea to get back into his house and into his bedroom where he could more easily assess what was happening to him, and now was his only chance before he became visible again.

He swung open the front door and ran up the stairs as fast as he could. He arrived safe and sound in his room and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Danny?" He heard Jazz's footsteps coming toward his room.

He jumped for his door and slammed it shut. An odd flash of light came out of nowhere, and Danny felt somehow different.

"Hey! No need to be rude. What's going on?"

"Uh - nothing, Jazz. Please leave me alone."

"You know if you ever need to talk, I'm here."

"Yeah, sure. Just…not right now," Danny said, suddenly feeling very uneasy. Would he be like this for the rest of his life? Was his human body gone? Lost in the portal forever?

The strangest thing was he felt solid. He felt the pain from the portal accident and a headache from the stress of everything. Could ghosts feel things?

He grabbed his phone off of his bed and saw a dozen messages from his best friends, Sam and Tucker. He had told them that he was going to check the portal out today just because why not? It didn't work anyway.

The most recent text read:Did you check out the portal out yet?

Danny decided just then and there that he had to tell Sam and Tucker. Someone else had to know.

He began to craft a lengthy text explaining what had happened when he realized his gloves were black again. He opened his phone camera and gasped. He was himself again! Just a regular teenager with raven black hair and blue eyes. He had never been so happy to see his own face.

He plopped down on his bed and sighed. He was so relieved. Maybe it had all been a hallucination or some weird dream after all!

Unfortunately for him, that was not so. He got up from his bed and went to the bathroom.

"It was just a weird dream," he said, laughing at himself as he looked at his ordinary blue eyes in the mirror.

He pulled his toothbrush out of its holder, wet it, and squeezed some toothpaste on it. He began brushing, but the toothbrush fell right from his hand. A clumsy mistake. He reached for the toothbrush in the sink, but his fingers went straight through it. He quickly looked up to see if his reflection was still the same. It was.

He breathed a short sigh of relief. But uneasiness set in again as he raised his hand. It was translucent but not invisible. It felt tingly, kind of like when you stand on a foot that's asleep. That pins-and-needles type of feeling.

He had to at least appreciate that he was experiencing something never experienced by any other human being thus far - that he knew of anyway. That being said, he knew that the consequences would overrule that. And that's what terrified him.

He tried to pick up the toothbrush again but much to his dismay, his right hand was stuck in "intangible mode." Instead, he used his left hand to pick it up and quickly finished brushing his teeth. Though it was not an easy task to do one-handed once he got to the rinsing part.

He speedily got dressed and texted Sam and Tucker:

Hey, we need to talk ASAP. Nasty Burger at 12?

Text wouldn't suffice to tell his best friends that he was exhibiting ghost symptoms. And if it was temporary, it was too amazing to let his friends miss out!
