Chapter 9

An army of the dead marched towards the River Styx. A hundred Roman Legionnaires led the way with their swords and shields. Behind them came an equal number of British redcoats with bayonets fixed. In the middle of the host, Hades himself rode a black-and-gold chariot pulled by nightmare horses, their eyes and manes smoldering with fire.

"You will not escape me this time, Percy Jackson!" Hades bellowed. "Destroy him!"

Percy and Mrs. O'leary took on a stance ready to fight.

"Father, no!" Nico begged, but it was too late. The army advanced.

But that's when it clicked.

Percy yelled out the battle cry and the Ancient River responded. A black tidal wave engulfed the massive army causing disarray.

Percy saw the redcoats take aim. He didn't wait for them to fire.

He charged through the musket fire. All of them missed. He crashed into the line, hacking and slashing. He was outnumbered.

Bayonets jabbed.

Swords slashed.

Guns fired and reloaded.

But none of them touched Percy.

He whirled through Hades' soldiers, hacking, slashing, stabbing, deflecting. Riptide turned into an arc of pure destruction.

Hades saw this and aimed an arc of pure darkness at the lone demigod.

Percy deflected it and lunged at the god. The next thing he knew, he had his knee planted on the god of the dead's chest, royal robe on his fist, and sword aimed at his throat.

There was silence. All fighting ceased on the battlefield. None of the soldiers did anything to defend their master.

But when Percy glanced back. He realized the reason why that was so.

Nothing was left of the soldiers except weapons and armor. Apparently, he had destroyed them all.

Hades swallowed. "Now listen here, Jackson."

Percy growled. "Just because I'm a nice person. I am letting you go, but first, tell me about the trap."

Hades melted into nothing, leaving Percy holding empty black robes, spirits hissed at Percy begging to be freed.

He cursed and got to his feet, breathing heavily. It was only then did he realize how tired he was. Every muscle ached. His clothes were slashed to pieces and riddled with bullet holes. But he was fine.

Nico's mouth hung open. "That– That was–" He

"I think the river worked," Percy said. "Nico, you're a genius!"

"Oh gee…You think?" NIco said sarcastically. "Percy, there's no scratch on you. Of course the river worked!"

"I know. Sorry I doubted you." Percy smiled.

Mrs. O'Leary barked happily and wagged her tail. She bounded around, sniffing empty uniforms and hunting for bones. On Percy's feet, Hades' robes hissed at him again. The Son of Poseidon could see the tormented souls shimmering in the fabric.

Picking it up, he walked to the banks of the river and tossed the robe in the water. "Be free,"

"What's our next move?" Nico asked.

Percy turned to Nico, "I have to go back to Manhattan."

"What about me? Don't you need me anymore? Do you hate me?" Nico demanded. He couldn't believe that Percy was tossing him aside now that he got what he needed.

"That's not what I mean," Percy placed a hand on his shoulder. "We're preparing for this war on multiple fronts. Naruto is still fighting to control the fox within him. We got what we came for here in the Underworld, now I'm going back to the vanguard. You…your role here is important. You must convince your father to join in the fight."

Nico understood, but still, he was still reluctant to follow, "I-I can't..My father hates me now."

"You have to," Percy said, trying to convince him. "Besides, you owe me for selling me out to your father."

"But, I want to be of help to you," Nico insisted.

"Trust me," Percy said. "You'll be much more helpful here."

"You mean you don't trust me any more?" Nico answered miserably.

Percy didn't know how to answer that, so he chose his next words carefully. "I'd be lying if I said that I'm wary of you from now on. But look at it this way, if I leave you here, I leave my back exposed to you, considering you are able to move in the shadows. If I didn't trust you that much, I'll keep you by my side so I can keep a close eye on you. But I'm choosing to leave you here so that when you convince your father, we will get back up."

Nico looked at Percy wide-eyed. Despite what he had done, Percy was still choosing to put his faith in him. "I-I'll do my best! And while I'm at it, I'll find out what else he was hiding about my mom."

With that, Nico disappeared with the shadows.

"Right," Percy nodded and turned to his lovable hellhound. "

Mrs. O'leary barked happily, waiting for her master's next orders.

Time for us to prepare for war.

NARUTO

"Naruto-kun,"

"Be strong my son,"

Two voices spoke to him.

They were unfamiliar to him, yet they brought him calmness, a calm he had been looking for all his life.

'Th-this voice–"

Two figures appeared behind him.

One was a tall, fair-skinned man, with blue eyes and spiky, blond hair. He looked a lot like Naruto. He was wearing a standard Konoha uniform with two bands on both of his sleeves, a green flak jacket, blue forehead protector, and blue sandals. Over that he wore a long short-sleeved haori decorated with flame-like motifs and closed in front with a thin orange rope. Emblazoned on the back were the kanji for Yondaime Hokage (四代目火)

The other was a fair-skinned and slender woman of feminine build with violet eyes, and her signature straight red hair that reached all the way to her thighs and with shoulder-length strands that reached all the way to her shoulder. She wore a high-collared, sleeveless blouse under a long, loose-fitting dress with a wristband on her left wrist and standard shinobi sandals.

"Y-YOU!" The fox roared and tried to get up, but golden chains appeared out of nowhere and

wrapped around the fox's limbs, restraining him.

"KUSHINA, YOU–"

The woman, now named Kushina, waved her hand and chains extended to wrap around the fox's snout. "Noisy fox. Can't you see we're having a reunion?"

The Fourth Hokage placed a hand on Naruto, and dark red chakra receded back to the Nine Tails. He stood in between the fox and the boy.

"Why don't we go somewhere else for now," The taller blonde said. "Your mom will make sure to keep the fox quiet."

The red haired woman glared at the fox, "You better sit still here. I'm going to have a reunion with my son, got it?"

Without waiting for a response, the three of them disappeared in a yellow flash.

IN ANOTHER PART OF THE MINDSCAPE

"Wait a minute, you're…The Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato-sama," Naruto said confused upon seeing who was in front of him. He then turned to the woman next to him. "You must be…the Yondaime's wife, Lady Kushina, was it? But what are you doing here?"

"Isn't it obvious, Naruto-kun?" Kushina smiled brightly.

"No way," Naruto's mouth hung open. "It can't be. Are you–"

"Looks like he's figured it out," Minato ruffled his hair. "Nice to finally meet you, my son."

"It's been a long time coming, dad," a tear ran down Naruto's cheek.

"Ugh," Without any warning, Naruto rammed his fist on his father's stomach. Kushina wasn't surprised.

"Why dad?! Why did you have to seal the Nine-tails inside of me?!" Naruto demanded, with tears freely falling down his face. "Do you know how hard I had to live until now?! I had to fear for my life at one point! I-I was so scared."

Kushina stepped forward and gave her son a tight hug, "I tried to stop your dad at first, ya know. But he does have really good reason for doing it."

Minato nodded. "As Hokage and as a father, I just let anyone bear the burden of carrying the beast. More than that though, there is no one else I believe could master the powers of the Nine Tails other than you, my son."

He scratched the back of his head as he explained, the same way Naruto always did when he was embarrassed.

"Dad…"

Minato joined in for a family hug, "For what it's worth, I couldn't be any prouder at what you've achieved. Look at you, you even mastered my signature jutsu and Jiraya-sensei's sage mode."

The three let go of the embrace.

And Kushina's gossiping side started to come out. "So, who's this Annabeth I've been hearing about."

"You can see?!" Naruto's face flushed red.

"Of course," Kushina smirked. "Our chakra has been flowing inside of you from the time you were a baby. We were watching you all this time. So, tell me about her."

"Well…She's beautiful…smart…she can go on talking about any topic she's passionate about…and I always love to listening to her," Naruto narrated. "She's also strong. It's like I'm watching Shikamaru fight. And most of all…"

He remembered the time she got kidnapped by Atlas' army.

"...whenever she's in trouble, I would always want to be by her side and protect her, ya know!"

"I don't believe it," Kushina wiped a tear from her eye. "My son's all grown up now. He's in love!"

"W-we're just friends, ya know!" Naruto sputtered, his face all red.

Kushina burst out laughing, "You got my verbal tic too. You really are my son."

Naruto pouted at his mother's teasing.

Minato placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder. "Don't mind your mother. There's no stopping her when she gets going. But back to the topic, that's exactly what I felt when I met your mother."

"You mean…"

"That's right, Naruto…"

"I see," That put a smile on Naruto's face.

Kushina returned the smile. "I get the feeling you know what to tell her when you're ready."

Naruto looked at both his parents.

"What's wrong, Naruto?" Minato looked at his son with concern.

"N-nothing…it's just that…wow…you don't know how long I've looked up to you as a kid and now…to think you were actually my dad," Naruto answered. "And mom…I only ever read stories about you. But I didn't know you were this beautiful in person, especially your hair."

Kushina smiled. "You're the second one, ya know. The second one to ever compliment my hair." Minato grinned. "Of course we would. I mean look at it. Look at you."

"Oh dear, stop," Kushina playfully slapped Minato.

Naruto sweatdropped. Is this what his friends were feeling when his friends complained about their parents flirting in front of them?

Nah, what the heck.

It was beautiful. It brought a smile to his face. The reports and stories didn't bring justice to the love he was seeing from his parents right now.

Really, it was beautiful.

"Naruto," Kushina called his son's attention. Looks like she caught him staring. "There are certain words I bestow only to those who compliment my red hair."

"Make sure to accept them, wholeheartedly." Minato advised.

"Okay, what is it?" Naruto asked.

"I love you."

Naruto was stunned. He felt warm. He felt happy. He wanted to let out his tears of joy.

Before the dam could break, he wrapped the two of them in a great big hug. He sobbed into their chests.

"I love you both, so so much."

They stayed like that for a little while.

Minato then took on a serious expression. "Now, then. Back to the matter at hand, the fox."

"Right," Kushina affirmed.

Naruto brought out a kunai that made Minato beam with pride. "Ready when you are, dad."

Minato flipped his kunai, "Let's do this."

With that, they disappeared with a flash of yellow.

BACK WITH THE FOX

"Grrr, how dare they make me wait like this," The fox grumbled to himself.

His opponents should have been taking him more seriously than they have now. When they get back, he surely will rip them to shreds.

There was a flash of yellow in the vicinity.

"Speak of the devil," The Nine tails grinned. "You want my chakra, Naruto? Come and get it."

Naruto felt calm. No taunt was working on him right now.

"I told B-sensei that I would cross this bridge myself," Naruto bowed. "Please watch over me, mom, dad."

Minato and Kushina smiled. But they nodded.

"There's no shame in bringing the numbers," Naruto breathed in deeply. He raised his hands in a familiar hand sign. "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!"

A literal army of clones appeared around them.

They charged.

Kurama powered through the chains holding him down.

"Wow," Minato said in awe. "The nine-tails' power levels still leave me in awe."

As the first wave of clones distracted the fox, blue energy began forming on the palms of each clone that was continuing the charge.

The Kyubi rose to meet the small army. A clawed hand was raised to destroy the charging army.

"Don't underestimate me, ya know!" Kushina yelled, pulling the fox out of balance.

Naruto took that opportunity to take in some nature energy. With that, the rasengan blew up to massive proportions.

Even the fox gulped at the sight.

In no time at all, the barrage of super massive balls of chakra exploded on the fox.

"Senpo: Choodama Rasen Tarengan!"

Kurama screamed in pain as the balls of concentrated chakra on him. He landed in a heap where his used to be.

Back with Naruto and his parents, the original Naruto was cooking up a storm, literally.

He was building up another Rasengan. This time he added wind chakra, giving it the appearance of a shuriken. He poured more chakra, letting it grow.

His father was moved to tears. During his lifetime, he wasn't able to add his own lightning chakra to the jutsu, and here was his son, surpassing him. He had done what he wasn't able to do.

The jutsu screeched into the air.

As the Kyubi landed, the prime Naruto charged.

"I'm not done yet!" He yelled. "Futon: Rasenshuriken!"

The Kyubi could feel the thousands of wind blades cutting through his skin.

Meanwhile, Naruto began the chakra tug of war. This time, his clones were tugging as he rammed the chakra shuriken pushing him away.

In no time at all, a wispy silhouette of the nine tail's chakra lingered in the air and went inside Naruto, changing his appearance.

His whole body was coated in yellow chakra reminiscent of flickering flames. Unlike his previous transformations, his pupils remained the same, only changing color.

"Wow, I never thought I'd see the day," Kushina stared at his son in awe. "But for my son to do it…:

"We never doubted you for a second, my son," Minato continued.

The family moment was disrupted as there was a growl from the fox. "Naruto, how dare you!"

He raised his snout in the air and started channeling a Biju Dama that had no business being this large.

Minato readied his seals, but Naruto held his hand out, saying that he got this.

He twisted the seal on his belly.

It was then, something incredible happened.

Large Torii gates fell from above, pinning each of the Kyubi's tails. The last fell on the Nine Tail's head, breaking the Tailed Beast Bomb.

"Th-the six paths'?!"

For the finishing touches, gates with the same color as the Torii gates closed in front of the Nine tails.

"You watch out, Naruto," The kyubi growled.

"I'm sorry, Kyubi," Naruto said. "I promise I won't do wrong by you. So…just stay there for a little while."

Naruto turned to his parent, "So, what will you do now?"

"We can finally go to the afterlife after our chakra is extinguished," Minato said sadly.

"But first, let me tell you about why we entrusted you with the powers of the Nine Tails."

And so Minato and Kushina told Naruto about the circumstances regarding his birth. What shocked Naruto the most was that his mother was the previous Jinchuriki of the very beast that caused the torment he experienced all his life even though she was an outsider. They explained that it was due to the close ties of Konoha and Uzushio. And that the first Jincuriki of the fox was named Mito Uzumaki, who took in the fox in order to aid Hashirama with his fight with Madara.

They told him about Mito and her relationship with Hashirama, and why she would willingly take in such a beast.. He was told about how the two were wed in what was widely considered a political marriage, but close friends and family, who had witnessed the courtship and the blossoming love story between the two, would disagree. Kushina also said that since Mito-sama married the Shodaime, she would marry the Yondaime.

They narrated the time when Mito reached the end of her life. His mother was brought to Konoha to be the next vessel. But that was not without any preparation. Mito told him the secret to it; It was to fill the vessel with love first. That brought a tear to Naruto's eyes. Just knowing that his mother was happy as a Jinchuriki brought him relief.

Then, they came to the circumstances surrounding Naruto's birth. It was kept to absolute secrecy, considering Kushina's status as a Jinchuriki. Despite that, there was a masked man who infiltrated the secret birthing clinic and massacred the guards and the midwives, including Sandaime's wife who was the head midwife. Whoever that was, he knew about the one time a seal weakens.

Minato told him about his epic battle against the masked man, and the Nine-tails thereafter while protecting Kushina and the newborn Naruto.

And the rest, as he said, was history.

"W-wow," Naruto didn't know what to say. He was sure that the masked man was out there somewhere, and he had a feeling that he would encounter him sooner or later.

"I guess we should say…No matter what reasons we had, I'm sorry for making you bear the burden of being a Jinchuriki. I'm sorry for not being by your side while you grew up, and most of all, for not giving you the love you needed."

"You don't need to apologize," Naruto said. "Sure it was hard growing up since you weren't around. But now…I know…both of you died for me and that you loved me very much. Just knowing that, I'm happy."

Minato smiled, while Kushina became teary-eyed. They shared one more hug.

"We should thank you for letting us become parents."

And as the family shared one last hug, the leftover chakra dissipated.

ANNABETH

Being ADHD sucked.

She checked her watch for like a million times now.

And every minute of the wait was hell.

To top it all off, she was worried about Naruto. Nobody said anything about fighting a thousand year old chakra beast that was the size of a New York skyscraper.

Who was she kidding?

That was true for any other wild animal, except this was a thousand more dangerous.

As she was pacing for the Nth time for the day, she felt a warm feeling enter her body and she was whisked away into her own mindscape.

There she was greeted by a blonde shinobi wearing a haori who looked a lot like Naruto and a beautiful red-haired woman who had Naruto's features.

"C-could you be–" She asked.

"Nice to finally talk to you in person, Annabeth," the woman walked forward and cupped her face.

"Hey, Kushina, aren't you being a little too familiar with her," the man called out to the red-haired woman.

"Nonsense, Minato. She means a lot to Naruto so I see no problem," The woman answered the blonde man.

"A-are you perhaps, Naruto's parents?" Annabeth said warily.

"Oh yes, dear," Kushina gushed at the Daughter of Athena. "I can see why Naruto takes a liking to you. I can tell you have a feisty personality, the same as me. You look like you have a good head on your shoulders. Naruto is lucky to have you."

"W-well, thank you," The girl thanked her for the compliment. "But how are you here?"

Minato stepped forward. "This is just leftover chakra from the seal. We just came to meet you.

"Oh there's so much I want to tell you and ask you, with so little time," Kushina said, not knowing where to start.

"Well, let's concentrate on the most important thing we want to tell you," Minato started. "Do you love Naruto?"

Annabeth blushed. She had been pondering on what she really felt towards the blonde, but confronted with them now, she had to ask herself what she really felt.

Naruto was always there for her. She may have had that rough patch with him when Thalia was freed from her limbo. She had to admit, it hurt. She almost felt her heart break when Naruto almost died in that incident with Atlas when he saved Zoe from her fate. Most of all, she felt a deep connection with him. After all the years and quests they had spent together, how could you not? She couldn't imagine what the future would be like without Naruto.

With a deep breath, she answered. "I-I do…"

Kushina wrapped her in a hug, "I'm glad. I can tell you that Naruto cares so much about you. I'm sure he would reciprocate your feelings if you tell him how you really feel."

"That's the thing," Annabeth pouted. "He's as dense as the earth's bedrock. I'm afraid he only sees me as a sister."

"That's why it will be best to take the initiative," Kushina advised. "It's not what your world calls the middle ages, where the men had to do all the work. We women must step up as well."

"You're right," Annabeth resolved herself. "I'll have to tell Naruto, preferably after the war."

Just then, she remembered what Naruto told her about his parents. "Naruto told me you were both orphans as well. Did you perhaps know one or both of your parents?"

"I only ever knew my dad, but he died when the village got destroyed," Kushina shrugged.

"I was always alone, but I remember the orphanage matron telling me stories about ," Minato chuckled.

Annabeth was shocked by what he was hearing. She came to the conclusion that Naruto wasn't the only in this other world to become a demigod. But she kept those thoughts to herself.

"Why did you ask?" Minato inquired. It was such a random question.

"N-nothing in particular," Annabeth held her tongue. There was so much to explain with so little time.

Thinking nothing of it, Kushina cupped her face again. "If that's all, please make sure that Naruto isn't alone anymore."

Minato bowed again, "Please take care of Naruto."

"Leave it to me,"

SAKURA

She couldn't hold still. It had been on her mind ever since Kumo's Perfect Jinchuriki came and whisked Naruto away to god knows where.

Ever since she learned of the war Naruto was going to fight in, she couldn't sit still.

How could she? The boy meant a lot to him.

Deciding he had to do something, she stormed to the Hokage's office. If there's someone here who knows about Naruto's situation, it would be her.

She knocked at the door.

"Come in," a muffled voice came from the inside of the room.

Sakura opened the door and she saw her master hastily closing her desk drawer.

She narrowed her eyes. "Were you drinking on the job again, sensei?"

Tsunade cleared her throat. "Of course not. I don't know what you're talking about. I was clearly working on some paperwork."

Sakura shook her head. "You better stop sensei, before Shizune-senpai catches you herself."

"I-I know that," Tsunade shuddered. Her student can be a slave driver sometimes. Damn Sandaime, dying on the job. "So what can I do for you Sakura?"

"I want to go and assist Naruto in the war," The pink-haired kunoichi said.

"What war? I don't know what you're talking about," the big breasted Hokage tried playing dumb.

"There's no use hiding it now sensei," Sakura shook her head. "Naruto already spilled the beans."

Tsunade sighed. "That brat. I'll wring his neck the next time I see him. Still I absolutely cannot allow this."

"Why? Naruto needs help. That's all the more reason for us to run to his aid."

"I'll tell you why. Not only do we not currently have the means of getting there, but we also do not have any means of attacking these 'monsters' that they have to fight."

"Currently? So there is a way."

"There is but they are extremely hard to manage. One, my pervert of a teammate, our only contact with the toads, is hard to track down. And the second, the only other way to get there is the Flying Raijin. And only three of them, together, are needed to activate the jutsu. That will limit the number we could send to the other world."

Sakura is insistent. In any case, we have to help Naruto."

Tsunade wasn't backing down either. "And I'm telling you, we can't go."

Sakura turned around.

"Fine. If I somehow find a way to send aid to Naruto and find a way to get there, you have to let us go."
