Chapter 3: Anything for my Parents
Josiah is twelve years old now, it has been two years since his friends, Ed and Al, left when their training with his mom was finished. He missed teasing Ed about his height, and practicing alchemy with the two brothers, but it was going to happen eventually and he was happy with the time he got to spend with them.
Before the Elric brothers left, Izumi sat them and Josiah down and Gave them one very important rule.
(Flashback)
"Boys, listen up." Izumi said, the three boys immediately lined up, sat on their knees, and looked up at Izumi who looked down at them with a Clam and serious look.
"Edward, Alphonse, I believe that your training is complete." Izumi said, putting her hands on her hips. The brother's looked at each other and at Josiah, then back at their teacher.
"This doesn't mean that I'm just abandoning you, you can always come back here if you even need anything. But before you go, I want to give you one rule to follow." Izumi said, holding up a finger for emphasis. "No matter what, never become a state alchemist. Got it." She glared at the boys at the end to show how serious she is, scaring the boys.
The three boys all rapidly nodded their heads, Izumi sighed before she puked up blood. Josiah was at her side immediately with a handkerchief.
(Flashback end)
Right now, Josiah was on a train heading towards Rush Valley, he's going there to hopefully find someone how can make a new knife set for his dad a birthday present. He tried making it himself but none of the knives weren't good enough in his opinion so he decided to have them specially made.
(Rush Valley.)
Josiah was frustrated, he's been looking around for hours and haven't found anyone who could make the knife set for him.
"An entire city that works with metal and no one here who can make a simple knife set. *Huff* Maybe I should just keep trying the make it with alchemy?" He thought aloud.
While he was walking, people started running and forming a crowd. After getting bumped in too a few times, Josiah finally looked up and saw the growing crowd, wondering what was going on he went over and made his way to the middle of the group only to see that it was just someone showing off some new automail they'd designed.
A few minutes later, the crowd had dispersed with a smaller crowd forming around the engineer that made the automail.
Josiah sighed and put his hands in his pockets, his eyes widened, he blinked, once, twice, thrice. He started patting himself down frantically. He lost his wallet; someone stole it."
"Crapbaskets!" he shouted, not noticing the person peeking out of a nearby alley, tossing a wallet in their hand with a snicker. "Sucker." They said while walking away.
Panicking, Josiah started going around demanding anyone he saw to tell him if they knew anything about a pickpocket, he finally got an answer front the eleventh person. The most likely suspect was a girl named Paninya, she's a thief that lives on the outskirts of town with the legendary engineer, Dominic LeCoulte.
Josiah ran, he ran as fast as he could where the person said the house was, the sun had just started to set and he could see the house getting just as he came up to a hill in the middle of the canyon.
Josiah smirked with a gleam in his eye when he caught sight of Paninya about to enter the house.
He clapped his hands together and slammed them on the ground, the ground around Paninya's feet wrapped around her and form a large block of stone that went up to her chest, but left her arms and upper body exposed.
Josiah walked up to her, laughing, stopping when he got Infront of her. "You have no idea how satisfying that was." He sighed in satisfaction as Paninya continued to try and escape. "Anyway, give me back my wallet then I'll release you and be on my way. Deal?" He held his hand out to shake but the girl ignored it in favor of trying to escape. Before Josiah could say anything else, he was hit in the back of the head with a frying pan.
"Young man I suggest you let her go and talk this out, if you can't do that then you should leave!" A woman with short brown hair, wearing a white shirt, blue pants, black sandals, and a bright purple apron. This is Satella, Dominic's daughter-in-law. Josiah, knowing better than to mess with an angry woman, chose to listen to her.
A few minutes later, both Josiah and Paninya were kneeling Infront of Satella with steaming red welts on their heads.
"Now, I everything alright?" Satella demanded more then asked. "Yes ma'am." Both Josiah and Paninya said at the same time, all be it reluctantly.
"What's with all the noise, I'm trying to work." A gritty voice yelled out from another room. "Sorry, father, we'll try to keep it down." Satella shouted back. Satella coughed into her fist to clear her throat.
"So, Josiah, was it?" Satella asked getting a nod of confirmation from the boy before continuing. "Now that you got your wallet back, I guess you'll be on your way, am I correct?"
"Yes ma'am, I need to find someone who can make me what I need anyway." Josiah said as he got up.
"Hmmm. What did you want to have made, some custom automail attachments?" Paninya asked. "No. My dad owns a butcher shop so I wanted to get him a new specially made knife set, but the people in town only work on automail." Josiah explained.
"Oh, well my husband has a friend that can do that for you, all he needs is a date, place, and time." Satella explained, getting Josiah to blink. "Say what now… really?!" He asked excitedly, running up to Satella and grabbing her hands. "Ofcoure, as long as you behave yourself and do me one favor." Satella said holding up one finger. "Anything just name it." Josiah replied immediately. "Well since you're so good at wrangling our little Paninya, you'll have to come by every once in a while, to check up on us to make sure she's not acting up, alright?" "Done, say no more." "Good. Now, it's getting late so you too go wash up for dinner alright."
"Uhhh. I'd love to but I really should get home so…" Josiah said while slowly backing away but Satella grabbed his shoulder. "It would woman irresponsible of me to let a child go all the way to Dublith by himself in the middle of the night." "it's just one night, what could go wrong?" Paninya added in. "Several things!" Josiah said in protest.
In the end, He ended up staying the night and suffered the consequences of spending the entire next day running from his enraged mother.
