Chapter One: "Heritage"
Jason has had a hell of a time since he came back to life after Joker killed him. Talia had brought him back via the Lazarus Pit against her father's wishes. Upon being revived, he was immediately attacked by some of the League of Shadow assassins, against both of the al Ghul's commands.
Jason quickly escaped and headed back to Gotham, only to see he's been replaced with a new Robin. Heartbroken, believing he was so unimportant to the man he considered a father, he had traveled around before something strange happened.
The world around him changed and he was in a more distorted version of Gotham. Monsters, or rather Demons, appeared around him, ready to kill. But he somehow had a sword appear and had dealt with them, coming back to reality after killing one of the bigger demons.
After that he had traveled the country, with Demons attacking him as he was repeatedly dragged into Limbo, the distorted reality. While there, the demons and Limbo itself would always call him Dante, but he couldn't tell why.
After a few years of this, now at 18 years old, Jason was now in Limbo City, a coastal city that was ruled by demons with an ignorant human population. It also looked like no superheroes were aware of the situation in this city, but who knows with Constantine and Doctor Fate.
Just last night, Jason had hung out at the nightclub known as Devil's Dalliance and had hooked up with to dancers dressed like angels, taking them back to his trailer on the Bellevue Pier, a Coney Island like neighborhood. He had woken up to the duo gone and the news going on about a terrorist organization known as The Order.
Jason groans and does a stretch as a mark similar to a sword with wings appears on his back and glows while he heals from the nail scratches from the passionate threesome, the mark completely disappearing after he healed. He then grabs a bottle of booze, 666 it was called with three devil heads colored red, and took a swig.
Suddenly, there was a banging series of knocks on his trailer door, "Dante! Get out of there, you're in danger!", a girl calls out to him. Dante? Only demons call him that.
Jason had approached the door and opened it to cover his eyes due to the sun before seeing a cute girl around his age, with pale skin, blue eyes and short brown hair. She wore a blue and orange hoodie and denim short-shorts, kneehigh socks, and brown boots. She had a spray can pouch at her hip and a stencil bag on her back. She also mystic looking tattoos from what he could see.
He was waiting for her to continue but he noticed she was stunned silent by the fact he answered the door naked. Honestly, he had abandoned things like modesty when he died. Since she wasn't going to speak, he would.
"Who are you? What do you want?", he asks her, lowering his arm as he has adjusted to the sunlight.
She gathered herself, "You were careless. You left a trail. Now he's onto you", she informs him.
"What are you talking about? Who's onto me?", Jason inquires, listening to her with a grain of salt since she is a stranger and knows him by the name of Dante.
She looks around before leaning in and whispering, "The Hunter Demon". She then notices something and lets at a small cry as she looks behind her, "he's here".
Jason looks forward to where she is to see something big in the water off the pier. It looked like some kind of gnaly primate, with it's nose disturbingly looking like a vagina.
"DAaaaAAAaaaNTE...", the Hunter called as the sky turned a crimson red as they enter Limbo.
"He's dragging you into Limbo", the girl tells him, to which Jason already knew that.
"Demon scumbag", Jason mutters as he steps out of his trailer and the Hunter roars at him.
"It's to late, you're going to have to fight your way out", the girl says, Jason looks at her to see she is now more of an astral projection, grayscale in color. Probably meaning she didn't get dragged in also, but this is the first time he could see someone outside of limbo clearly.
Some of the classic Limbo distortions, usually black stony spikes appears while the other structured warped to fit the hellscape.
"Shit! I hate being in Limbo", Jason groans in aggravation, "...Bad day for a hangover".
The Hunter had gotten on a black spiked formation and grabbed a grappling claw, similar to Batman's, just way bigger in size, and shot it at Jason. jason dodged but it grabbed onto his trailer.
"Get your filthy fucking claw off my trailer!", Jason called out to the beast.
The Hunter pulled on the claw towards, along with the trailer. Jason quickly jumped into it, flying through the air along with all of his stuff. ignoring everything else, He grabbed and put on his wife-beater tank top, a pair of black jeans, his black boots, and his black leather fingerless gloves, all while in the air before crashing out the far end window of his trailer, fully clothed.
The trailer flew to the Hunter, with him smashing it to pieces.
"Missed!", Jason taunted before the Hunter dived back into the water.
Jason looked around as some low level demons, Lesser Stygians, spawned from the ground.
The mark appears on his back again before a sword appears on his back. it was a massive longsword with a heavy double-edged blade, notched near the tip. The blade had a damascus look to it. It had a interwoven grip with a single spike pommel. More uniquely, it had a skeletal guard with a ribcage and a two faced skull, on skull face having horns, it's 'arms' were flush to the ribcage and blade. The guards, grip, and pommel were black in color. (a combination of dmc5 and dmc4, with it in the dormant state).
"Time for a little Rebellion", Jason puns, as the swords name is Rebellion, "You wanna fight? Let's go!".
Jason could hear variations rock music whenever he fights demons for some reason but it got him into a groove when fighting, so he didn't really talk about it.
Quickly slashing at the duo in front of him, they vanished in defeat before he turns to a few more that appear. He did more hacking and slashing, even some spinning to build velocity, at the Lesser Stygians that appeared around him before no more remained in the area.
Some of the black stalagmite pillars disappear off the pier and Jason heard a female voice, "Dante! This way!"
"The girl from earlier?", Jason remarks before jumping onto a bridge of the pier. Jason looked down the bridge to see to unique guns hanging from a purple bra from some pier sign. "My guns?", Jason was confused since they are usually with him, like Rebellion.
He turns back from where he came to see the Hunter again and he launched the claw at Jason , hitting behind him. the bridge began to fall apart, with Limbo spelling out 'NO ESCAPE', as Jason ran across the collapsing bridge, jumping over gaps and evading tipping trailers till he got to the last trailer. He landed on it and began running up it as the trailer fell in to the water, jumping at the precipice to take his guns back from the hanging bra and landing on a much more stable part pier.
"Ebony. Ivory. I missed you girls", Jason says to the black and white dual pistols. They resembled desert eagles with stylized grip sharpened to a point and had engravings of scrollwork near the bore. he couldn't tell you where he got them, but whenever he thought about it, he saw to angelic woman. One was caucasian with blonde hair and white wings. The other with dark skin, black hair, and black wings.
Jason turned back to the Hunter and opened fire on the demon, to no effect it seems as the bullets just stop and fell on his face and the demon growled before moving away.
Jason put the guns away behind him, though they seemed to disappear like the sword appeared.
Another kind of demon appears flying near Jason, this was a Bathos. A cherub cupid like demon with a that throw grenades or something similar.
"Great. I could use some target practice", Jason remarks at the demon before shooting it with his twin girls and killing it in a few seconds. Soon after four more spawned, and Jason made quick work of them also. Some Lesser Stygian appeared with more Bathos. Jason evaded its explosive mine shots while dealing with the LSs before killing the Bathos too.
After dealing with them, he moved forward to the food stalls, seeing what Limbo and demons say about them, like 'GLUTTONY IS GOOD'. Being in Limbo reveals a lot of truths hidden from humanity.
"Dante", He hears something behind him and turns around with his guns in hand to see the girl again.
"Don't shoot! My name's Kat. I'm not a demon!", Kat says to Jason with her hands up in surrender. From her point of view in the real world, Jason was grayscale but no one else could see him, making her look crazy. "I'm still in the real world, you're in Limbo".
"Yeah I figured that. How come I can still see you so clearly", lowering one of his guns. 'Seems my guns might still effect her in the real world if she's scared of me shooting her", Jason thought.
"I'm a medium, a psychic, I can phase into Limbo and communicate with you", she explains. They circle each other with the people ignoring her as she continues, "i can see you, talk to you, but I'm not there with you".
Jason decided to confirm, "And if I pull the trigger?", he asks her.
"I'll die.", she lowers her arms, "I'm still risking my life doing this for you. I want to help".
There as a few seconds of silence between them before Jason lowers Ivory, "I don't need your help", and he goes to walk away.
"The Hunter has dragged you into Limbo. I can get you out", Kat tells him.
"I've been here before. i know how to get out. Kill the bitch ass demon that dragged me in", Jason remarks.
"You don't want to fight the Hunter", she warns, "He's not your regular demon. Follow me. Now!", before walking towards the spinning swings.
Jason sighs and 'holsters' Ebony and Ivory before heading in that direction but couldn't see her, "Where'd she go?". Killing these spider like demons, called Critters, along the way.
He enters the area with the spinning swings ride with Limbo saying 'DEATH'.
He approaches the ride before more Lesser Stygian appeared. Jason used his upswing to take advantage of the spinning ride as he sent the demons into it and watched as they splattered. Soon after, the black stuff left again and he traversed Limbo once more.
Jason soon approaches the Bellevue Pier Funland with the ferris wheel. Limbo had 'SUBMIT TO DEBT' over the Funland sign. to the right of the sign was a Divinity Statue, also known as the Watcher of Time. These statues kind of act like a supernatural shop in Limbo that the realm had no control over, like it's his only ally within this hell. It sells Vital Stars that heal him, in small and large sizes. It also sells Devil Stars that Jason believes refills magic, he doesn't as he's never used it before. It can be also used to upgrade his skills and weapons, as he's been doing with Rebellion and the girls. Various orbs are also sold by the statue. To purchase from the Divinity Statue, one needs Red Orbs.
Orbs are these special crystals that look like demonic heads that Jason acquires from killing demons or from the Divinity Statue. Red Orbs are crystalized demon blood used to purchase things, Green Orbs are crystals that revitalize Jason, White Orbs are crystalized demon tears and spirits that Jason believes replenishes magic, Blue Orbs are crystalized life force of demons that can permanently increase ones vitality, Purple Orbs are crystalized magic that can permanently increase ones own magical storage, Gold Orbs are crystals created from some secret alchemy process that can revive someone immediately upon death. Blue, Purple, and Gold Orbs are sold at the Divinity Statues and demons don't seem to be able to use them. the other Orbs are acquired from killing demons.
Double checking his stockpile of items at the statue Jason continues into the Funland before he hears something behind him. He turns around to see the Hunter come up over the buildings and jumping to the ferris wheel. he breaks its axle as it now spins in the wrong direction. Jason then notices something hanging from the ferris wheel.
"Is that my coat? How did it get up there?", Jason asks himself, forgetting how he and the girls from last night began some of their foreplay on the ferris wheel and his jacket was tossed aside.
The Hunter then completely tears it from it's axis and then spins the ferris wheel at Jason. Jason stands still as the wheel comes at him and he enters between some pars, he then runs along the ferris wheel to his jacket. Jason jumps to it and slides it on with a spin before landing off to the side of the out of control ferris wheel
The jacket was a knee length faded black leather with red interior lining, red coloring around the cuffs, it had a black and white British Union flag patch on the left sleeve
Unknown to Jason, this affected the real world as people ran from the ferris wheel. While not always, sometimes things that happen in Limbo can affect outside of it.
Jason adjusted his coat as the ferris wheel went down the pier, more black stalagmites rise around him as more enemies spawn in to fight Jason.
Jason rushes forward with a Stinger, his rush forward stab attack, at a Lesser Stygian, before hacking up the rest. He hit a bomb from a Pathos back at it with Rebellion before firing with Ebony and Ivory.
After they were dealt with, the Hunter appears and hangs from some of the taller black crystal formations to shoot his claw at Jason.
"Hey! Come down here and fight!", Jason yells. The claw lands before him and the pier then sprouts a hand from the impact point to grab him, he evades it before another is launched.
"Hey!", Kat yells to Jason, "Through here!", pointing into the Bellevue Pier's haunted house, Dollhouse, before she went inside of it.
Jason rushes in before the Hunter used the pier hands to seal it behind him.
"No turning back then", Jason says before heading in deeper into the haunted house.
He rounds a corner before a Doll pops out from behind a door, "Get lost!", Jason says as he continues forward.
The Hunters right hand then crashes through the wall and tries to grab him.
"Oh Shit!", Jason yells and dives back to avoid the hand. The hand grabs around but doesn't find him and leaves. Jason then continued down the hall passed the collapsed wall.
Jason enters a hall with a bunch of paintings of eyes and walks to the mass mirror. He sees a side hall to his right to see a golden door with a lock that had three eyes. This was a secret door that led to what Jason called secret missions and required special keys to unlock it. Secret missions were inconsequential activities where one completes specific tasks and are rewarded things like Blue Orbs, it seems time doesn't flow outside of the missions and should he die doing the activity, he'll be revived without the need for a Gold Orb.
Entering it, Jason was given the Mission Air Brawl. he had to defeat all his enemies within a time limit but they will only take damage while in the air. Five enemies within a minute, easy enough for him.
He re-enters the eye painting hall as if he never left and head for the mirror again. As Jason nears it the Hunter burst out from behind it directly in front of Jason. the hunter swipes at Jason with his left hand but Jason backflips away a great distance. the hunter then unsheathes it's brass knuckle knife as Jason readies his own blade. The beast jumps at Jason with it's knife heading for him. Jason leans down and to the side while using Rebellion to cross blades and keep it from touching him. The Hunter continues flying and crashes through the opposing wall. it crashes around him as he roars at Jason before running away.
"Hey! Get back here!", Jason yells at the demon but sighs as he knows the beast won't and continues through the haunted house, where he stumbled upon a Lost Soul, a soul of a human trapped within Limbo. Killing them will free them from Limbo while also gifting Jason more Red Orbs.
Dealing with that, Jason moves forward and enters a room with giant gears, with the exit being on the other side of the room.
"Exit. Sweet", Jason remarks.
Suddenly gears covered the door as Limbo said "STOP" and more gears covered his entrance.
"Not good", Jason says before a doll flies in close screaming, "fuck off".
More gears moved and then fell around the room before some enemies crawled out from the ground. A two gear pipe came spinning from behind Jason and was coming at him, he does a spin dodge and it continues into a Lesser Stygian.
More LS spawn in front of the exit and Jason open fires on them with his fraternal twin pistols. More demons kept popping up, so jason just started to knock them into the dangerously fast spinning gears.
Once they were all dealt with, the gears over the exit moved away for Jason to leave the haunted house. But as he approached it, Limbo then extended the room and added more saw like gears in his path. Limbo always likes making things more of a pain in the ass.
Utilizing his jump and double jump abilities he gained, Jason made his way to the exit once more and finally heads outside.
Once outside, Jason hears something and sees the Hunters blade spinning at him vertically, to which he dodges while some debri flies by. A white wig from one of the destroyed stands lands on his head. Jason sees his look with it in the mirror before looking back to the Hunter and tearing off the wig, taking his pistols and firing on the Hunter, to no effect.
"That won't work", Kat says from behind him.
"Why not?", Jason asks her.
"He's bulletproof" she informs him.
Jason groans before holstering his guns while the Hunter runs around, Kat runs to the pier entrance/exit with Jason following.
"There's a rift up ahead", Kat tells him.
"A what?", Jason questions.
"It will take you back to the real world. We'll come back for the hunter", Kat explains.
Small buildings flew up as they passed, heading for the exit, before Limbo says 'TRAP HIM' and the Hunter launched his claw from the rollercoaster to the exit, raising the pier around the area so Jason can't leave.
"Okay then, let's fight", Jason says, looking to the Hunter, with the demon jumping down into the makeshift arena.
"Dante, wait", Kat says running in with a molotov and throwing into the Hunters face, affecting him, "It's working, you can fight him now. it won't be easy. Hunters are brutal fighters".
"Yeah? Well, so am I", Jason tells her with a smile, garing down the Hunter.
Jason opens fire on the demon with Ebony and Ivory, they now had some effect on the Hunter as the fire burned away the protect it had.
"Dante, can you still hear me?", Kat asks while Jason battled the demon.
"Yeah, I hear you", Jason replies before evading a swipe from the Hunter's knife
"Attack its face!", she informs him.
Jason got in close and jumped up to the Hunter's face and proceeded to slash at it with Rebellion. This staggered the beastly demon and it fell to the ground in a daze.
"Ohoho, you feel it now, dontcha!", Jason gloats as he continues to slash at its face.
It wasn't long before the Hunter got back on its feet and jumped away from Jason. The Hunter jumped up onto the roller coaster and used his claw to attack with the hands again
"Use your guns to shoot it down", Kat yells. Jason was going to do that anyway.
Dodging the hands and shooting the Hunter caused it to eventually fall off the coaster and lay on the ground again.
"Aw, does it hurt", Jason taunts as he closes in and slashes at the demon's face again.
The hunter gets up once more, jumps back again, and took a deep breath, then breathed out a black smoky fog, obscuring Jason's vision outside a few yards around him. Jason could hear the hunter's knife spinning through the air once more and evaded it's path, however the blade acted like a boomerang and homed in on Jason. This time though, Jason used his sword to block it before sending it back to the hunter.
The hunter fell over, defeated. Jason approaches the fallen enemy as it gasped for air. he put his foot on the knife that laid before the beast's face.
"Game over", Jason says.
"Son of Sparda", the Hunter groans through its shark teeth.
"Son of who?", Jason asks, not knowing of Sparda.
"You have been found. You are dead, just like your whore mother", the demon taunts.
"My mother?", Jason anger rises, "Barely remember my mother, but if you're calling me a son of a bitch, you wouldn't be the first!", the final word was punctuated with a final strike to the hunters head, finally killing it.
As he returns to the human world with his sword disappearing, Jason holds onto the amulet around his neck, that he always had on him, even as Robin under the suit. The necklace was a a black rope with metal breaks, hanging from it was a ruby wrought in gold.
"My mother...", Jason mumbles, barely remembering a redheaded woman that gave him the amulet.
Jason looks around and sighs at the destruction caused by what had happened in Libo that affected the human world, before leaving the pier. He was walking down a nearby road as the police pass by for the pier, he couldn't stay around but hoped nobody was seriously hurt. Soon after an SUV pulls up, with Kat being the driver.
"Are you okay, Dante?", Kat asks him and he stops walking.
"Only demons call me that. My name is Jason", Jason tells her, not looking at her but where he was walking.
"My boss knows all about you. He wants to meet", Kat answers, Jason stayed silent, "Please. I helped you back there".
Jason then leans into the car, staring at her, "I didn't ask for your help".
Kat looks forward as a police passes by. Jason follows her gaze before sighing and getting into the passenger seat, gesturing with his hand for her to drive.
She does a quick U-turn, "we know all about you, Dante... uh, Jason. I'm with an organization called the Order. Heard of it?"
"Something with the masked freak on the news?", Jason remarks.
"That's my boss", Kat supplies.
"Perfect, can't wait", Jason jokes.
At Silver Sacks Tower
A big muscular bald man with a mark of some kind on his forehead in a business suit watched the news of what happened on the pier with a ugly woman in a pink dress.
"We have your scent, Son of Sparda", the man says, "Now, it is just a matter of time".
Later
Kat drove the SUV passed an automated gate into an alley. once the vehicle stops, her and Jason get out and walk to a half opened garage.
"Welcome to the Order", Kat announces.
"Not exactly what I was expecting", Jason snarks, but he knew that sometimes one must stay undercover when doing shit.
"That's the idea", Kat snarks back. They enter the half opened garage and she continues, "The demons are amongst us, Jason. They are enslaving mankind", she approaches a spray painting of the mask from TV on the wall. She pressed its nose area to open up its mouth to reveal a keypad, she punches in a code and its right eye reveals a retinal scanner, "The world is asleep, brainwashed, and helpless", she is then scanned and the wall slides open, "We're fighting back".
"Spy shit", he remarks before looking to the camera that was zooming in on his face.
"We're a small group of freedom fighters in Limbo City", Kat continues, "We are the last and only line of defense here".
"Defense? I don't like your odds", Jason says as he wipes a thick coat of dust off the walls as they walk.
"We've accumulated vast intelligence on the demons and their collaborators to even the odds.", Kat replies, "World leaders, bankers, pop stars... we can hit them where it hurts".
"Their wallets?", Jason says. Always go after the money if that's what your enemy values.
They pass by streams of computers lined the room, with each room and hall having vault like doors, and armed men and women. One door opens for Kat and Jason to enter a room.
In there was a man Jason's age. He had combed silver-white hair, wore black coat with a long tail on the right side and a collar with a larger left side. There is a Brassard on the left bicep of the coat, which also has blue, ornate scrollwork sewn into the left side of the upper back and a blue lining. His hands are covered by light blue gloves, and he wears a blue dress slacks, with black leather shoes. He held his hands on a katana before him, like it was a cane.
The katana had a white wrapped grip, with a golden pommel, the hand guard was gold and navy blue with golden dots. Jason didn't know what the blade looked like but assumed it looked like a normal katanas. The scabbard/sheathe was black with metallic accents at the far end while its sageo was blue with gold accents.
"Amazing...", the guy breaths out at the sight of Jason, "Dante... it really is you!". To which Jason simply shrugs.
"You don't remember me?", he asks at Jason uncaring behaviour.
"Nah", Jason dismisses.
The man takes a moment, "How much of your childhood do you remember?", he asked Jason.
Confused, Jason answers, "Uh, not much. Got meningitis that wiped my memory when I was seven. Why?"
The guy chuckled, "They told me I got in a car accident that resulted in total amnesia. Age: Seven."
"Your point?", Jason demands, getting a little impatient.
"Meningitis is a human affliction. You're not human, Dante", the man says, stepping out of the shadows to reveal his face looked just like Jason's. "All war is fought with deception and you have been deceived. Your past has been hidden from you for a reason."
"Alright, back up", Jason interrupted, "Who are you again?".
"My name is Vergil", he introduced himself, "i established the Order to hep to find a way to fight the demons."
"Besides swords and bullets, you mean?", Jason sarcastically asks.
"Such weapons can win battles, but not the war", Vergil explains, "We use force, yes, but we also use intelligence, politics, propaganda."
"Have you even made a dent?", Jason snarks.
"A dent?", Vergil says before approaching Jason, "With the two of us working together. i believe we can defeat them!"
"So that's what this is about", Jason realizes, "You need me to fight the demons, help you save the world."
"What else were planning on doing with your life?", Vergil asks. Which kind of hurts Jason, like he's a loss lamb with no purpose.
"Look, you all seem nice. but i'm the loner type, trust issues, won't be anyone's bitch", Jason tells Vergil, and by extension Kat.
"Dante", kate says, using the other name, "I don't think you understand what's at stake here...", but she is cut off by Vergil raising his hand.
"If you want to leave... turn your back on me. I'm powerless to stop you", Vergil tells him, "But you'll be making a grave mistake. Not just for yourself, but for mankind."
"For mankind?", Jason asked incredulously.
"Yes!", Vergil exclaims.
"Please! Humanity has plenty watching over it and have gotten nowhere. One guy with a sword and guns isn't going to make any difference.", Jason waves off. He became less heroic after coming back. He'll save people when he can, but Jason won't go out of his way for it like he use to.
"At least give me a chance to show you", Vergil asks of him.
"Show me what?", Jason asks, his curiosity drawn out.
"Who you really are", Vergil answers.
Later, edge of Red Grave City, near Limbo City
The SUV containing Jason, Vergil, and Kat, drove onto a property called Paradise, housing a villa or manor.The Trio get out of the car and enter through the front of the manor. They stop just in through the entrance. Vergil now wearing a fedora to hide his stand out silver hair.
"This was your home", Vergil tells Jason.
"I don't remember it", Jason replies. The earliest he remembers was the streets of gotham and Ma Gunn's, and the only manor was Wayne's.
"You will", Vergil says before ordering Kat, "Kat, open the gateway".
She nods to him and takes out her stencil and rolls it open on the ground, revealing a runic shape. She then takes out her spray can and gives it a good shake before getting to work on the sigil.
Jason looks to her inquisitively, then to Vergil, then back to Kat, "What are you doing?".
"Our world and Limbo are very closely superpositioned. They collide in places causing what we call rifts.", Kat explains as she carefully spray paints, making sure of no flaws, "It's here, in the rifts, that was can create gateways to and from Limbo".
Jason crouches down and touches some of the paint, and feels it between his fingers before having a smell of it.
"Ugh. Doesn't smell to good", that didn't smell like paint, "What is this stuff?"
"A compound I created using an old wiccan recipe", Kat answers, "Sea salt, shark oil, iron shavings, desiccated squirrel semen, woll hair..."
Jason immediately wipes his hand onto vergil's pant leg, "good stuff", before immediately getting to his feet.
"Ergh", Vergil tries to wipe down his own affected area to no avail.
Sighing, Vergil gestured the painted sigil, "Go ahead. The house holds secrets. I found mine, now it's your turn".
"How will I get back?", Jason questions them. A demon wouldn't have dragged him in, so killing any won't bring him back.
"We'll take care of that", Vergil says, "Just be careful, it can get rough".
Jason looks to Kat, "Oh, I like it rough", to which she gives him a humorous smirk before he faded away into Limbo.
Kat looks to Vergil, "You sure about this? He doesn't seem to care".
"He's raw", Vergil replies, "Just like you were when we met".
In Limbo
Jason arrives to see the inside of the manor covered on the black rocks of Limbo. The astral appearances of Kat and Vergil beside him before disappearing, his sword also manifesting on his back.
Jason then ran down the long hall to the main room. It had grand stairs heading to the left and to the right. Images, murals, littered the ground but was scratched and dirty. The ceiling all but gone, with a chandelier laying on the ground. Parts of the second level were also knocked to the ground. Jason decided to go upstairs to the left to the first open door.
Through it, he saw another Divinity Statue and made a pit stop before heading to the left of it. As he headed for another room, to the right was a blue vine covered hole. he didn't know what it was but will deal with it later.
'I remember this place', Jason thought to himself, as the barren room appeared to have bookshelves and a desk in his memory, the walls were a clean red and gold with red curtains before Jason came back to the present to see the sorry state it was now in. All that was left was a painting of a man. He was wearing a purple fancy suit with silver hair, but this face was clawed off the image. The man also held Rebellion and Vergil's sword in the painting.
Jason approached it, "And who the hell are you?", he looks to a plaque on the frame, "Sparda?", he remembers how the Hunter called him Son of Sparda, "My dad?", just then more demons spawn in to fight Jason, with Limbo saying 'FOUND YOU'
Jason began to then slice the Lesser Stygian to pieces. After dealing with them another foe emerges. They had a shield and horns with a bigger blade, this was a Death Knight.
"You're up next!", Jason taunts, going for a Stinger, but was ineffective due to the shield, "eh, tough guy!", so Jason got behind it to slice up it's back before breaking the shield and finishing him off.
Jason looks back to the portrait only to notice a red glow coming from the frame. Curiously looking to his father's image, Jason then touches the frame. A crystal comes out and Jason grabs a hold of it.
Rebellion disappears as the crystal becomes an oversized red and black battleaxe. it almost looked like it was made out of scrap metal. He can feel demonic energy from the weapon, "Ah Hell Yeah!".
Another Death Knight spawns in, to which Jason turns to it was a glare. using his new axe, Jason easily breaks the shield, "Not so tough now". An then quickly defeated it.
Soon more Lesser Stygian and Death Knights appear as Jason then makes short work with them. Though the axe was strong, it was much slower then Rebellion. Thankfully, Jason could switch weapon mid attack for a better combo flow by simply thinking of his other weapon.
After defeating his enemies, Jason looks to his new weapon,"Hmm, I'll call you Arbiter, cause you settle my disputes", Jason says. he then heads to a now open passageway to the left of his father's painting.
Heading through, Jason could here the chatter of children, "Who's there?", he asks aloud. The wall in front of him then moves back and he falls to the first floor. Traversing the area, he fell into a fallen hall before making his way back into the Main Hall, this was the open door to the left that he didn't take.
More enemies spawn, with Jason using Arbiter on the Death Knight before annihilating the Lesser Stygian with Rebellion.
After the battle, Jason the children again, he looks to see the echos of the two boys on the second floor, sword fighting.
"This way, Dante", one kid said.
"Okay", the other replied, "RaaaH! Can't catch me Hahahaha," and they both ran away.
"Dante?", Jason questions, "Did I hear that right?", before heading up to where they were and using Arbiter to smash open the door they went through. He ran down the hall to see what appears to be astral echos of the two boys as they played. Jason followed them till the disappeared in a room.
'DIE', Limbo growls as a trio Death Knights appear. Jason went to using Arbiter to break their shields before defeating them with Rebellion by lining them up before them and using a Drive to send a flying slash through them.
After defeating them, Jason sees the boys hide under the bed in the room.
"That was me", Jason says aloud, "I remember this". he looked under the bed to see the boys gone before noticing a plaque with a symbol that fell off the bed. Jason knew that it looks just like the symbol that appears on his back, even though he never got a clear look at it.
Flashes of talking with Kat and Vergil echoed through his head before Jason was suddenly in a completely different location. There was a ton of water and floating structures with a chained statue in the distance.
"Where the hell am I?", Jason asks, his voice echoing all over. He runs forward along the structure he appeared, "Am I dreaming?".
Jumping across some platforms, Jason came across a gap he couldn't cross. he was trying to figure out how to get across before he felt demonic energy and grabbed it from his back. It was a red grapple with three red claws and a black cord coming from a twisted grip.
Throwing the claw forward, he then pulled the piece of the platform towards him, "Alright".
He then continued platforming until he came to a more unique one, He pulled a platform to him before using the claw to pull on a more stationary structure to pull himself and his platform across. He came across a building a ripped a floor out of the wall to go across that.
Eventually, he made it to a moderately sized platform where more bathos and Lesser stygian appeared, Jason shot up the Bathos before using Overdrive and Million Stab on the LS.
"So, what now?", Jason questions as he approached the end of one of the chains to the statue, held be some kind of gargoyle. Deciding to throw caution to the wind, Jason used Arbiter to destroy the gargoyle and the chain dropped into the water. The chain was broken from the statue, that turned to look at him before he saw flashes of a redheaded figure.
He was then back in the Bedroom within the manor.
"Ok, so what else do you got?", Jason calls out, before running into a collapsed room that had an obvious secret door. This one had to kill six Lesser Stygian in a minute, easy enough.
Afterwards, he headed through the only open path before Limbo broke the windows and collapsed the floor. Jason simply used the claw to pull out some platforms for him to cross so he wouldn't fall.
After breaking through the door at the end, Jason saw a woman's echo appear before him.
"SPARDA! They're here! THEY'RE HERE! They've found us!", the woman said as she ran away, "we've got to get out...NOW! Come on! Quickly..."
"What the hell happened here?", Jason asked himself before running after her, revealing that he was in the long entrance hallway to the Main Hall. Limbo then broke apart the manor saying 'STOP HIM' as shielded Bathos then appear.
Using the claw, he was able to pull away their shields and used his girls to blow them away. Lesser Stygian were pulled towards him before Jason wailed on them with Rebellion.
"No no no!" he heard the woman coming form the upper left, "Come on. How did the find us?!"
I know that voice", Jason says before heading up and breaking through the door she went into. A Divinity Statue was just on the other side so he took the time to upgrade Arbiter. Continuing forward, passing some blue vines again, he ended up in another room. He was about to continue but noticed a sole portrait of a redheaded woman holding a blue rose.
"That's... Mom?", Jason says. Surveying her image, he noticed that she had the amulet that he now wears.
"I love you, Dante", he remembers her when she was giving him the amulet.
More demons then appear, aggravating Jason, "Fucking demons". he then quickly deals with them with a combination of Rebellion and Arbiter, using the claw to pull them back to him if he knocked them away.
After defeating them, Jason noticed a bluish glow coming from his mother's painting. he took notice of her name being Eva as he touched the frame and another glowing crystal appeared. Grabbing it, a new weapon appears.
This one was a large scythe with a light blue, pretty much white, hue to it. The blade is long and curved, coming off the tip of the snaith at its heel. The snaith itself looks to be made out of wood, and it has two grips protruding from opposite ends that resemble whittled branches. it had a twisted pommel similar to Arbiter.
More demons then spawn in, with Limbo saying 'KILL'. jason takes the opportunity to test out his scythe. Jason the did a vertical spin attack, he'll call it Shredder, to juggle his enemies. As the fighting went on, the scythe blade glowed a holy light as it seemed to charge up and increase in power. The weapon was by far the fastest he has now.
Jason will call it Osiris. After the Egyptian god of the afterlife, of death and rebirth.
After the fight, Jason could only go back the way he came and headed for the Main hall. He also soon discovered that those blue vines are weak to this holy weapon, only to see his mother's echo run by.
"You! Get after her, down there! Cover the doors. MOVE!", a masculine voice sounded out
"Uh. Get away from me! Get Away From Me!", his mother voice yelled.
Stopping at the same Divinity Statue, Jason upgraded the Osiris and entered the Main Hall.
Limbo changed the landscape once more as Jason saw his mother's echo go through a door on the other side. He platforms across the gaps, using the claw to pull him the last bit to the door and smashed it open with Arbiter. he then cut through some of the blue vines with Osiris and moved forward through the manor. Jason came across some debri and smashed through it.
Eventually, Jason came across another room that he assumes is the library do to it having nothing but shelves and books with some decorations.
Walking to the other doorway, Jaosn discovers something on the ground, "A Blue Rose?". He picks it up and then is transported back to the place with the statue, though it looks like a different chain placement.
Jason continues on the platform till he comes to a stop since he can't cross naturally and can't use the claw to pull something towards him. Jason then felt holy energy on his back and another grapple appears. This one resembles a white chain with a snake-like head coming out of the grip, complete with a jaw that clasps onto targets.
He uses it to pull himself to a structure, and continue his exploration.
Jason now knew what they could do. The red claws could pull things to him, while the white jaw pulled him to the targets. Jason could also tell they were the same tool, just charged with different energies. the overall weapon would be called Ophion, after the serpent deity that challenged Chronos for claim over the heavens. The red form would be called Demon Pull and the white form would be Angel Lift.
Jason continued to move along the platforms, even going through a section he couldn't run, only use Angel Lift to get through.
"Nice", Jason cheered to himself before moving forward to see an enemy. He used Angel Lift to bring himself to the demon and then quickly killed the L Stygian.
He then used Angel Lift in succession again to get to a bigger platform, only to get more demons to appear.
Using a combination of Rebellion, Arbiter, Osiris, and Ophion in quick succession while evading to kill them.
Jason then used Angel Lift twice and then used Demon Pull to get a him a platform to land on before heading for the gargoyle held chain, smashing it to bits like the last one. like last time, the chain fell and the statue looked to Jason.
"What am I unleashing?", Jason questioned before being pulled back to the library and is greeted by a shielded Bathos.
Utilizing Demon Pull to get rid of the shield and then Angel Lift to quickly appear before the Bathos, he used Rebellion to finish it. More Shield Bathos and L Stygian appear and Jason used his new weapons to dispatch them.
As he goes to leave he notices a picture on the ground of the library, he pick it up to see a young Jason with his mother and father, along with his twin brother Vergil.
'i remember', Jason thought, 'I remember my mother, Eva. She gave me her amulet. i had a brother too? We would play sword fighting all the time. A dad, Sparda, who was closed off but cared about me. We were a family. I had no idea of the danger we were in, till the demons found us. When they attacked, i don''t know what happened to Sparda or Vergil, but mom hid me in a closet so she could go looking for them with having to worry about me. But then HE appeared. I saw how he held down my mother, some angels, I guess, appeared to help her, but it was to late as he ripped her heart out from her chest with his bare hands. I... I will never forgive what he did to her. The angels helped me escape and I ended up in Gotham. They promised to protect me in my mother's stead before disappearing, leaving behind Ebony and Ivory. All I had were them, Rebellion and the amulet before I passed out and the next thing I knew I had lost my memory. But I remember now', dropping the photo and the glass breaking brought Jason back out of his head.
Taking one last look at the photo, he then left the library.
He rushes for the manor's rift. limbo was doing a last ditch effort to stop him, and he employed Ophion to help him right the platforms on his path. 'STOP', Limbo calls as it twisted and turned the environment while Jason raced for the rift.
"I'm getting out of here", Jason says as he enters the long hallway for the rift. Windows burst as the floor fell while Jason ran and jumped till he finally landed on the sigil and heading back to the human world.
In the Human World
Jason appears before Vergil and Kat, but focuses on the silver haired man.
"You're my brother", Jason states.
"Your twin brother", Vergil confirms, "I've been looking for you for a very long time now", he approaches Jason and sows his own amulet around his neck. While it had the same rope, Vergil's was a sapphire wrought in silver, but overall the same design. Their father probably wore it like their mother wore Jason's. "Our mother gave these to us. I think she knew that his moment would come. That we would find each other".
"And Sparda?", Jason inquires Vergil of their father.
"A soul death, not even welcomed in purgatory, a fate worse then death some would say", Vergil answers, "Can't even meet him in the afterlife for likes of us".
"I need to know everything", Jason says, "What happened, what we are, and especially who's behind all of this", before leaving the more destroyed manor. the only solid structure left was the family room that housed their family portrait from when the were toddlers.
Later, In Limbo City
Jason and Vergil were walking through a back alley playground they came to as kids.
"Do you remember this place?", Vergil asks Jason.
"Yeah, I remember. It's only place we came to outside of Paradise", Jason says, "I don't know why though, it was a city over".
"Our parents probably met around here, sentimental value", Vergil says, "mother would bring us here".
"Alright, enough stalling. Tell me everything", Jason says, not needing a sentimental moment right now.
"Some things have always been. There have always been Angels, there've always been Devils. And they were at war, The Great War.", Vergil began, "Soon into it, Angels opposed god and became the Fallen while Devils lost themselves to chaos and became demons. One rose to take power over the demonic hordes; the strongest, the cruelest-- Mundus. He did not rise alone, for he had a devil ally, his blood brother...".
"Sparda", Jason says, in a realization at how their father was once an ally of their mortal enemy.
"But Sparda betrayed him. Seeing the plight of humanity caught in the Great War, he awoke a sense of justice and rebelled, sealing Mundus and his demons within the Demon Realm. While the great war came to a ceasefire between, Angels, Devils, and Fallen, Sparda would safeguard the entrance to the Demon Realm on Earth before he would fall in love with an angel, Eva. The union between an angel and devil was inconceivable, since Eva didn't fall from grace like she should have for her actions. but it happened and they gave birth to twins, you and I. However, Sparda didn't count on the demons being able to connect to Earth through another dimension, Limbo. Mundus took control over a human body and hunted the lovers down. Both were murdered, Eva being to weak to do anything and Sparda having sealed his power along with the Demon World. While Eva passed on, Sparda's soul was captured and subjected endless torment before being destroyed. Your Arbiter and Osiris are merely fragments they left behind that I wasn't able to retrieve. But, even though they were destroyed, the seed for their revenge had already been sown. Because according to legend, the only beings that can slay a demon king are Nephalem, a hybrid of Angel and Devil. And those hybrids now exist, us two.", Vergil states before walking into a underpass.
"Mundus only believed one child was born, you, due to you being there for mother's death. Sparda had armed his sons before hand; the Rebellion for Dante and the Yamato for Vergil", Vergil finishes.
"So Mundus not only attacked for revenge against our father but because we are Nephalem, the only ones truly capable of killing him.", Jason summarized.
"Yes", Vergil confirms, "We are the only ones to slay the demon king".
"Good", Jason says with determination, "How?"
"DaaNTE", the twins turned down the underpass to see a hollow eyed human, looking like he was crying oil pointing at Jason.
"A Spotter!", Vergil grunts as he troughs a dagger at its forehead and kills it, "Fucking demon collaborators. You're being dragged into limbo, I'll find Kat to get you out. Stand firm", running from the area as Jason enters Limbo, who prepares for combat.
'TRAP HIM. KILL HIM', Limbo calls out as Bathos spawn in.
Jason uses the Demon Pull to rip their shields away and shot them down before Death Knights appeared. He ripped away their shields too before hacking them up with Arbiter.
Just then, a green demon with a massive chainsaw hand came out of a wall, this was a Ravager. It immediately charged at Jason with a scream and chainsaw revving in a berserker state but Jason demon evaded, a last second evade that causes his adrenalin to demonically increase his speed and strength for a few seconds. Taking the opportunity to slice the Ravager with Rebellion before it could go berserker again.
The black stone that blocked his path forward disappears with Kat finishing the gateway for him to leave.
"Dante! The gate's ready. Come on", Kat says. Jason ran through the archway and saw Kat down the road, "Over here!".
While heading for here, Limbo then collapsed the road, leaving a sky looking abyss that Jason couldn't cross, t least with what he had.
"Can you get across?", Kat calls out to him.
"No", Jason responds, "I'm going to have to find another way".
Turning back into the courtyard, the archway was sealed off once more as a horde of demons spawn in to fight Jason. Due to the number of Lesser Stygian, Jason resorted to Osiris for it's speed and range to keep them away from him. While dealing with the last of the L Stygian, another Ravager appears.It goes berserk and charges him, but Jason uses an Overdrive to stop it and send the Ravager flying back. He used Angel Lift to get in close and finish it off.
'COME CLOSER', Limbo seemed to taunt as an upper level was unlocked as the black rocks disappeared. Jason used Angel Lift to get up onto the level. Only for the area to seal shut with another Ravager to appear.
"Son of a bitch", Jason grumbles before evading its berserker charge. jason goes for a Stinger then his new Trillion Stab, sending the demon flying back away from him before using Demon Pull to bring it back and finishing it off with Arbiter.
The path opened once more and Jason continued over the arch and to a point where he could use Angel Lift to cross the second stories of the courtyard. Once landing, Jason used Demon Pull to bring another platform out from the wall to continue onward.
Jason came to a stop at the two platforms spinning and twirling around the top of the center statue of the courtyard, he then noticed something on top of the statue.
"Another blue rose?", remembering his mother's favored flower and what happened last time he interacted with one in Limbo. Waiting till one of the platforms was rightside up and in front of him, Jason then used it to get to the statue and grab the rose.
Jason is once more transported to his mindscape with that chained statue with access to another chain. He ran forward on his current platform till he came to a gap he otherwise couldn't cross. Jason had a feeling to use his angelic side to try and jump again after an initial jump. Jason did so and shot forward before gracefully gliding down to the next platform. This was Angel Boost.
Jason then continued across the platforms, heading for the chain, utilising his new Angel Boost. he then came across a steep drop to the next platform, this showed Jason how exactly the glide worked, he went a set distance before falling slowly.
He then did a Angel Lift and before and Angel Boost to the next platform. The next section had him do Angel Lift, then Angel Bost, then Angel lift, and another Angel boost to land.
"Getting the hang of this", Jason comments at his growing skill at the use of his new abilities.
Jason ran to the next platform where he Angel Boost before dog a Demon Pull to get a platform below him before running to the third gargoyle and taking the axe to it. Once more the chain fell and the statue looked to him.
"What are you hiding?", jason asked the statue before being transported back to the courtyard, with Pathos appearing before him, they're like Bathos but with crossbows instead of grenades.
Jason simply shot them to death before jumping down to ground level and dealing with the Death Knight and L Stygians. Once they were dealt with, two Ravagers appeared. Jason launched one in the air while dealing with the other, soon learning that they can't go berserk when airborne. he then decided to air combo one and once it was dead, used Demon Pull to bring the other one into the air and finish it off.
The archway opened up once more for Jason to finally leave
"Kat! On my way!", Jason called to Kat near the gateway. Using Angel Boost to cross the destroyed road and land onto the gateway, leaving Limbo.
Later, The Order HQ
Jason, Kat and Vergil were in the latters private office. they were standing in front of the many computer monitors, with a bigger one showing an image was a building that looked like wings aimed at the sky.
"Silver Sacks Tower. The world's most powerful investment bank. Run by CEO Kyle Ryder, the human vessel of Mundus, allowing to roam the Human world., "Vergil showed images of the bald man, "Through debt and contracts, he controls practically everything where he can't brainwash. To Mundus, the world as a factory farm for human souls. And he likes to keep his animals monitored and docile. ", showing images of CCTV cameras, "the monitoring is down by the Raptor News Network, a global network of cctv cameras, satelites, and spies. The way he keeps people docile is... a little more insidious".
"What is it?", Jason asks before taking a swish from a can of Virility.
"It's in your hand", Vergil informs, "Planet Earth's current most popular soft drink, Virility. The demons have spiked", this resulted in Jason spitting it out, "It's OK! It has no effect on us. Only humans", Jason still tossed the can into the garbage, "It's a lobotomy in can for them".
"So what's the plan", Jason inquires.
Vergil then pulls up an image of a cave drawling depicting a portal and Mundus, "That's the Hell Gate. A portal to hell that Mundus uses as a conduit to draw his power into our realm. While he's connected to the Hell Gate, his vessel is immortal. But if we get him away from the Hell Gate, our swords can do the rest."
"So how do we do that?", Jason asked.
"Well, we'll get his attention", Vergil begins, " Mundus is petty, impulsive. If we hit him where it hurts, let his anger rule him, I believe we can draw him out".
"Okay, so to kill him, we need to draw him from the Hell Gate", Jason summarizes, "We do that by pissing him off. And to piss him off, we take out Raptor News and Virility".
"Roughly speaking, yes. That's it", Vergil confirms
Jason looks back and forth between Kat and Vergil, "So which one do you want to do first", he asked the two.
Chapter End
AN: First thing is that I'm obviously combining DMC with DmC, with some of the DxD history also mixed in for later.
Rebellion has the blade and guard ofDMC4 with the grip, pommel and color/texture of DMC5.
Ebony and Ivory look exactly like they do in DmC but I gave them a history of being Devil/Angel Arms of Angel and Fallen friends of Eva.
Yamato looks like it does in DMC5.
Arbiter, Osiris, and Ophion all look the same, just without the matching pommel.
Jason has crew cut hairstyle, basicly the same as DmC but with the back of the head matching the sides in length.
