inGen Facility, Isla Muerta, 1998.
Sometime around the same time as The Incident in San Diego, Ingen was on the Brink of Corporate Collapse. The Truth about Jurassic Park, and Isla Sorna, was slowly being revealed in threads to the General Public. Investors pulled money from the Company, and Ingen was being threatened by families who lost loved ones in San Diego and even Jurassic Park, Lawsuits hit the company, and pretty soon Ingen went from one of the Richest to one of the most unstable Genetic Engineering Firms in the World.
Ingen, when they originally leased the Islands of The 5 Deaths from Costa Rica, made what was silently called 'Deal of the Century', they got ownership of the Island for quite literally the Next Century, 100 years to build the greatest Jurassic Theme Park in the World.
But building 5 Theme parks completely off the grid was an impossible Task, InGen quickly realized, to properly stock and get Guest Ready 5 Entirely Different Theme Parks on 5 Islands would be completely impossible, and when they acquired Isla Nublar they decided to mostly abandon the 5 Deaths, for a Time.
InGen would create multiple facilities on these Islands, the Most Famous being Site-B, which would act as a Breeding Ground for these Dinosaurs, and as Site-B went to hell after a Hurricane hit it InGen was left with the facilities on the Other Islands.
Isla Muerta was where InGen did most of the research on 'Less Desirable species', Species that didn't captivate the General Public nearly as Much. Although InGen originally wanted the Species to be integrated with the Park on Nublar, The Incident there left uncertainty in the Air. For Isla Muerta, sometimes called 'Site C', it was the death sentence.
"Rain is really coming down." Dr Raegis said, Thunder Rumbled outside as the Blue Illumination of Lightning filled the Windows, the blinds casting Brief Shadows on the Wall.
"Yeah, Tropical Coast for ya." Dr Matsuro responded, "It's another Tropical Storm, you're new here right?"
"Yeah." Raegis Answered, "I Transferred here from the Facility in San Diego Last Week."
"Oh." Matsuro said, Matsuro was one of InGens Japanese Scientists, it was Easy to Forget just how many International teams InGen had. "Well, we get them here every few months during the Season, you get used to them"
Raegis went back to his Monitor, InGen, recently, had gotten access to a Site with a lot of Amber dating back to the Cretecous period, including a Lot of Lesser Known Dinosaurs. On his Screen was the In-Progress Genome of the Daspletosaurus, a Tyrannosaurid that wasn't deemed popular enough to end up at Any Main Attraction. Raegis didn't know exactly what InGen was planning to do with these Dinosaurs, and although he loved the Animals he was ultimately here to get paid.
"Did you guys see we got a new Shipment of Amber from that other Dig in Antarctica?" Said Dr. Grayson, walking into the Room.
"Antarctica?" Raegis said with surprise, "I know there were Dinosaurs that lived there, but how did they find it in the Ice."
"Dunno, that's not my job." Grayson said, shrugging, "All I know is they tested the stuff, and they found some DNA for what they think might be a Cryolophosaurus and some other Animals."
"Cryolophosaurus." Dr Matsuro said, "Another Theropod?"
"Yep." Raegis said, he was familiar with the Dinosaur, back when it was around Antarctica was a bit further from the poles and the planet as a Whole was Warmer, as a Result Antarctica was a Temperate Continent, one of Beauty.
"They probably think Therapods as a whole would do better for visitors when a New Park opens." Grayson theorized, "At least, that's what I think."
"What Park?" Matsuro said with a Slight Laugh in his voice, "This is no Park, there will NEVER be a New Park, after what happened in San Diego? InGen will be lucky if it survives another year."
"Then why are they still making Dinosaurs…." Reagis asked.
"That is above all of our pay grades." Matsuro said.
The Entire Building Rattled as a Particularly intense blast of Thunder and Lightning Struck nearby, His Glass of Soda wobbled, and he grabbed it to prevent it from falling.
"Huh, that's weird." Matsuro said, he saw him flicking his monitor out of the corner of his eye. "It looks like we just lost power in Sector 3."
Another Rumble of Lightning and the lights went off, followed quickly by the Whirling of the Fans stopping. They all groaned collectively, he pressed buttons on his now turned-off monitor, and expectedly nothing happened.
"Looks like we just lost all power." Matsuro said. Raegis wheeled his chair over to the window and peered through the blinds, sure enough all the lights were off.
"Yep, everything's down." Grayson said, "Can someone get the Backup generator back up?"
"It is on the other side of the compound." Matsuro said, "We have enough Gas on the Site for 36 Hours, although we have ships on site prepared to leave if some emergency happens."
"Wait." Raegis suddenly said, "The Fences here are electric, if the powers out does that mean….?"
"That the Dinosaur Paddocks are unpowered." Grayson said, he watched as the Doctor began to pace suddenly across the room.
"Protocols say if we completely lose power that we must evacuate." Matsuro said, "Get the Other Staff, we must leave this Island at once!"
As the others began scrambling to alert the other staff on-site, Raegis began to mentally go through the List of Dinosaurs on site. Procompsognathus, Tarbosaurus, Coelophysis, Albertosaurus, Kentrosaurus, Alamosaurus, Gojirasaurus, Oviraraptor, He could remember there were a couple others but those were the big names.
"Raegis, come with me!" Matsuro said, gesturing to a Jeep, he followed after him and they both got into the Wrangler. Raegis watched as they pulled out and raced away from the Genetics Lab, they weren't too far from either the area the main staff worked, which was near the Main Dock, the Veterinary center and Central Communications lab. The Worst Part of it all was that they would have to go past the Albertosaurus Enclosure, those were Theropods, Tyrannosaurids to be more exact, and they were even faster than the Tyrannosaurs InGen had cooked up previously, there would be no outrunning them if they escaped.
"Go Faster." Raegis said
Then, to his horror, he heard the cracking of Wires as they snapped, he turned around and clearly saw that, through the flashes of lightning, the Fences of the Albertosaurus Enclosure had been torn down, he could hear the chittering sounds of the Dinosaurs, followed by a Bone-Shaking Roar of one of the Albertosaurs.
"Go Faster!" Raegis yelled, Matsuro stepped on the Gas, the Jeep's Engine Revved and he could hear the encroaching footsteps of the Albertosaurus behind them. He turned sound, and saw the Redlit Figure of an Albertosaurus that was illuminated by the Rear Lights of the Jeep, he could see a lot of details, and the worst part was he could see that it was gaining on them.
"We won't outrun it." Matsuro said, "Here, take the wheel, there is a Tranq Gun in the Back I can use."
They exchanged places, he grabbed onto the wheel and made sure to gun it as fast as possible, they had quite a bit of road between them and the Main Center of the Facility was, and the Jeep Rattled as it sped and bumped down the path.
"There's three of them!" Matsuro yelled, he could vaguely hear him reloading a Tranq Gun, but that was mostly drowned out by the Jeep's Engines. He tried to focus on driving, but in his left mirror he could see, very easily, that the Dinosaurs were about to reach them, he swerved to the rest, clipping an Albertosaurus and as he swerved back he watched as it fell onto the road, its Leg broken.
"Nice job." He heard Matsuro say, he heard a Pop as the Tranq gun Fired and hit an Albertosaurus, he turned behind him as he watched the Monster slowly slow down and collapse. He also saw the Remaining Albertosaurus break off the chase and head back, presumably to check on its friends.
"They care for other members of the species." Matsuro said, "Albertosaurus are very social animals as we have found out, one of the best of any dinosaur, and no one expected that, we thought they were just pack hunters, but they were so much more."
"That's cool." Raegis said, he pulled into the Center of the Facility, near the Main building. The Storm was so bad now that he could hardly see anything. Once they were inside he breathed a Sigh of Relief, they quickly went to locate the other staff, who were gathered in a Single Spot in the building.
"Dr Jane." Raegis said, Asking for the Leader of the Venitinary division, "Is everyone here?"
"Yes." She said, "We got everyone inside this building in time."
He noticed that through the flashlight she had a Small Dinosaur with her, a Mottled Green Therapod that looked like a Newborn baby.
"What is that?" He asked.
"Oh, this lil'guy?" She said, "It's a Baby Tarbosaur, it was just born last night."
"Tarbosaurus?" He asked, "Did you just say 'Tarbosaurus', as in the Tyrannosaurid?"
"Yep." She said, scratching the Baby Dinosaurs head, it chirped. "It's so tiny right now that it's about as deadly as a Chihuahua, so I wouldn't be worried."
"Of all dogs you could have picked, you choose a Chihuahua?" He asked, facepalming.
"The Docks are close by, we can walk there." Matsuro said.
"What about Dr Grayson?" He asked.
"Dr Grayson, I…forgot about him." Matsuro admitted, he grabbed his Tranq Gun before speaking again. "I will get him, you guys get to the boat."
"Do you want me to come with you?" He asked.
"No, I will take the Jeep." Matsuro said, "You guys get moving, it's less than a Quarter Mile to the dock."
They nodded, and soon they set off in their separate ways. The Roughly 19 of them are heading to the dock and Matsuro, by himself in a Small Jeep heading back to the Genetics Lab. He watched the Red Taillights recede into the distance, the Flashes of lightning and their flashlights themselves being the only main source of illumination. Luckily enough for them, they all knew their way back to the Dock, and they would be there in no time.
He glanced at , she was cradling the Baby Tarbosaur in her Arms.
"Why are we bringing him?" He asked, "He's a Dinosaur, we should be very fine to leave him."
"He is just a Newborn baby, and the Other 3 Tarbosaurus are too Young to take care of him, they are at least grown enough to survive on their own, but I can't leave Specky here." She said, scratching the Dinosaurs Chin, he chirped again.
"Specky." He said, "Specky, you named it?"
"Of course?" She said sarcastically, "What do you want me to call it, by a Numerical designation?"
"It always goes wrong when they start naming them." He muttered under his breath, he could see the dock now, it was outlined against flashes of Lightning, and he could hear the crashing waves.
"Hurry, onto the ship!" He yelled, pointing at the gangplank, The Cargo ship was already fueled, although with Minimal Cargo that thing wouldn't need much to get to the nearest Mainland Port, and he was suddenly unsure of Motivation of bringing that thing aboard. He knew what happened in San Diego, and when that Thing Grew up it could be nearly as Deadly as a Tyrannosaur.
"Are you sure you want to bring that thing aboard?" He asked Dr Jane, and she nodded. He knew this could only end in Disaster, but looking at the Baby Dinosaur he knew there was no way in Hell that she would change her mind.
"Where is Matsuro?" One of them asked, and as he looked he saw the Distant Headlights of the Jeep approaching them. As he watched it turn onto the path to the Dock and Accelerated towards them, he saw it come to a Stop next to the boat, and Matsuro stepped out and ran up the gangplank.
"Where's Grayson?" He asked, noticing his fellow Scientists Absence.
"Dead." Matsuro said, putting the Tranq Gun Down and wiping off a Dagger with Cloth, "One of the Gojirasaurs got him, found the Carnivore in the act, and pushed this blade straight through his Skull."
"Oh god…." Raegis said.
They all covered their ears as the Ship blew its Horn and began to move away from the Dock. He saw a Pair of Floodlights on the Bow Turn on, illuminating sections of the Facility. As he proceeded Graysons Death, he noticed some Procompsognathus gathering near the Dock, Chirping at them. He noticed Janes Tarbosaurus Chirping Back.
"What is that thing?" Matsuro asked Jane, suddenly alarmed
"Newborn Tarbosaurus." Jane said, "He is incapable of surviving on his own, I am taking him with us."
"Where would you keep such a Beast!?" Matsuro said, "Do you have any idea what bringing an Apex Predator Therapod back to the mainland would do?"
"I am well aware, and I plan on sending him back here once he has matured to a Later stage of Growth-" Jane began, but Matsuro had already snatched the Baby Tarbosaurus from her hands.
"Give me that thing." Matsuro said as he wrestled the Baby from her hands, Raegis watched as he quickly took it away, the Baby letting out some Screaming noises as Matsuro, to Raegis's surprise, tossed it over the edge of the Ship and into the Water.
He heard a Gasp from someone else, and once again to his surprise, but also to his shock and horror, he saw Jane run after and leap clean over the Rails of the deck into the churning water.
"Jane!" Raegis said, running to the Guardrail, he could see her swimming to the Water towards where he presumed the Baby was. He couldn't believe she actually did that….why?
"It was for the greater good." He heard Matsuro say, the Rain stopped, and over the course of the next Hour the Clouds Began to Clear. By the Time Dawn came and the Sun Rose the Island was out of sight. He had suggested going back, but Matsuro insisted to follow Protocol, and that no Dinosaurs be let off the Island without Authorization from the Highest Level of InGen Command. He ended up just accepting that Jane was gone, if she managed to swim back to the Island, there was no way she could survive for long taking care of a Baby Dinosaur on an Island of Angry Theropods. As they got back to the mainland, he was already trying his best to Forget about the whole thing.
And that's How Dr Raegis would live his life for the Next 2 Decades, forgetting about Jurassic Park, and Ignoring the Establishment of Jurassic World.
Of Course, that wouldn't last, Life has a Way of catching up to you.
