The next morning, Bee and Raine awoke to what should've been an adorable sight: Their wives feeding their grand daughter. Why was it not that, you may ask?
Eda and Oum were fighting over what baby food to feed Ami.
"Peach puree!" Oum argued, "It's a special first day and she loves it!"
"Puppybane!" Eda recounted. "To keep her energy and magic up! On top of keeping her hair beautiful"
"Ami is too young for magic food!" Oum retorted. "Besides, that stuff is still moving! And fluffy!"
"I fed Olivier the same and he turned out fine!" Eda snapped.
Ami, her tummy rumbling, kept reaching for the jars from her high chair: At this point she didn't really care which one she got; she was hungry. That and she didn't like seeing her grandmas argue.
Neither did her grandpa and Grad; who were in no mood to deal with this so early in the day. Luckily, they wouldn't have to:
Something suddenly wiped the baby foods out of Eda and Oum's hands. The two women turned to see Owlbert holding the Peach Puree and Domino the Puppysbane along with a spoon, while Fenec placed a small plate on the high chair's table. He then nuzzled with Ami as Owlbert and Domino each poured some of the baby food onto the plate, the cat Palisman then handing his owner's daughter the spoon.
"Ank you, Owber! Omino! Enec!" Ami smiled as she took the spoon and mixed the baby foods together and took a big bite of the mix. "Yummy!"
The Palismans smiled adoring at the baby half-witch as she ravaged her breakfast in delight, then shot the adults an unimpressed look before returning to staff form.
"…Ba? Granma?" Ami called out, hoisting a spoon of her food for them, hoping it would cheer them up.
Oum, feeling embarrassed, knelt downwards and lovinglyt wiped Ami's messy mouth, sneaking a nibble
"….You know? …That's actually not half bad." The Thai woman said. Yes, the…texture was something new for her, but the peach and whatever Puppysbane was struck a nice balance of bittern and sweet, along with a tiny hint of grease, like you'd expect on a burger.
"Hey, let Ba try some!" Eda cut in, trying to move in. Ami spyed her and hoisted the full spoonful in to her. Eda almost gagged on shock…then tasted it. "…Dang! That IS good! If I still had Claw's Za up and running, I'd put that on the menu!"
The two women then kissed their granddaughter and Eda graciously let Oum start their own breakfast prep as their beloveds finally made themselves known.
"S̄wạs̄dī txn chêā khn s̄wy." Bee cooed to Oum as he embraced her from behind.
"Granpa!" Ami beamed, waving to him.
"Hmph." She ignored him with a pout, instead focusing on preparing some eggs and plates. Sensing his wife's anger, Bee decided to grab the mail.
Raine joined Eda in helping clean Ami's high chair, sneaking a kiss when they could.
"Grad!" Ami cheered.
"Hmph!" Eda ignored them with a pout, finishing cleaning Ami's face and sitting down.
Evidentially, both women were mad at their spouse for absconding Ami from them the previous day. That an maybe taking too long to settle the breakfast argument.
"….We got you a new Rom-com." Raine weakly tried to make the two smile. Oum paused midstep of cooking, her interest peaked. She then turned back to finish breakfast, but added:
"thank you."
"Marcy sent us something!" Bee cheered as he went through the mail, ripping open the envelope to reveal six tickets inside.
Oum gasped, guessing what was going on. Bee's next words confirmed them.
"The pilot for her web-comic is premiering at Comic-Con on Saturday!"
At this, any animosity was forgotten, instead replaced by excitement.
"ABOUT TITAN DARNED TIME!" Eda cheered, nuzzling Ami's nose and then letting Oum blow a raspberry on the giggling baby's belly.
"INSTANTLY MADE THE TRIP HERE EVEN MORE WORTH IT!" Raine cheered.
OWLPHIBIA
Marcy Wu, while regarded as one of the smartest of her generation (a title she shared/ rivalled Mason 'Dipper' Pines and Alexander 'Fox' Xanatos over) and having developed what she called 'Blue-prints' to solving several world problems, was living her best life as a web-comic creator: Her series 'Magi-Beast Brats Chronicles'.
Taking inspritaion from both the Calamity Trio's time in Amphibia and Olivier and Luz's adventures in the Boiling Isles, Marcy's epic comic told the story of several anthropromorphic creatures who found themselves trapped on earth while being aided by a human fantasy buff, her crush, a dethroned prince and a host of other characters. The main adventure of the story was the creatures trying to find a way home while also fighting off evil forces that were crossing over onto earth.
The series was praised for, on top of its both cute and scratchy design, striking a wonderful balance of comedy and drama, along with the sweet romances that developed between Azzy and her crush Briane, along with the falcon boy Horus and the frog girl Annie. Struggling Dryad mage Paulina and the dethroned prince Tracker were also very cute.
What everyone 'in the know' liked most, however?
Marcy had made the character she based Belos off into a joke; still evil and cruel but always suffering some humiliating defeat or slapstick style injury every time he appeared. Without fail. And top of that, the character was also shown in series to be so low on the proverbial totem pole of villainy, a schoolyard bully would get more respect than him.
Heck, Oum was pretty sure one of the minor characters was based off Anne and Marcy's childhood bully Maggie, and that character had at least ONE decent fanfic about them being in the main story, from what Bee described.
In stark contrast, the characters based off of Grunge and the Core were far more multi-layered: Marcy turned Olivier's former mentor and aruganly greatest enemy into a proper well intended extremist suffering from the affects of his dark magic and trying to do the most good he could before he was consumed by evil. The Core, meanwhile, was turned into a Brainiac from Superman the animated series type character; a self serving archivist if you would….
On the matter of the Archivists, while character based off the Collector was a kind and heroic figure with a very quickly growing fanbase, their siblings were portrayed as simpering, try hard and often bumbling henchmen of the Core, with a character based off Andrias being a noble enforcer and recurring foe who'd cut the kids slack where and when he could…while also being a bit of a goof.
Not since 'Single Slap Sam' had a web comic blown up in such popularity!
And now? 'Magi-Beast Brats Chronicles' was being picked up for a TV show! And they'd all get to see the pilot episode Saturday evening! If they timed this right, they could meet Anne and Olivier at the Convention centre for one last fun evening with Ami.

With the mood lifted by the wonderful news, the grandparents all sat down to a simple but warm and filling breakfast.
"Well, its wonderful we have something to look forward to at the end of the week," Raine smiled. "But what should we do today?"
"Well, it's a lovely day out and tomorrow and the next day are supposed to be dreary, so I was thinking we have a beach day." Oum suggested.
"Liking the sound of that!" Eda smirked.
"…Really?" Oum asked. "Yesterday…"
"That was before I knew the weather." Eda cut her off. Oum didn't fully buy that…but then she caught the sneaky look in Eda's eyes that she directed at Bee and Raine…and smirked as well.
Bee and Raine were in la-la land for the rest of breakfast; daydream of their wives in swimsuits and building sand castles with Ami. Maybe even helping her take her first steps into the ocean, buy some junk food and work on their tans?
This would be a good day.
After breakfast, Bee grabbed the beach bag as Raine made a few sandwiches. Neither noticed or were too deep in their fantasies to realize their wives were NOT arguing about what to fit Ami with.
"Alrighty, ready to go!" Bee announced an hour later as he headed to the car.
"Sun lotion. Hats. Towels. Floaties, sandwiches, diapers, baby powder?" Raine called off.
"Check on all of em!"
The two smiled as they grabbed the beach bag, Bee carrying Ami as they declared:
"Beach day! Beach day! Beach day! Beach da…!"
"OH NO YOU DON'T!" Oum and Eda called out, grabbing their respective beloved by the collar and dragging them back, Ami giggling as her grandma caught her.
"You two got to have Ami all day yesterday." The Thai woman reminded her husband and Raine, leaving no room for argument. "So now, its our turn!"
"Darn right it is!" Eda followed. "Sides, it'll be kind of nice to soak in the attention without Ollie there."
That got some confused and or concerned looks from the others.
"Oh yeah! Ever since he could waddle? Anytime we went to the beaches? If anyone so much as apricated the views? Olivier would glare at them at best, throw things or bite that at worse.:"
She paused for a minute.
"….Pretty sure he pooped one diaper just to throw it at one fella….twice. Oh wait, the second one might've been King."
The scenes that popped up in Bee, Oum and Raine's minds was adoreable and sweet…if somewhat stinky.
"Daddy funny!" Ami giggled, as if she'd seen those images.
"That he was and is, sweetie." Eda cooed, tickling the toddler. "That he was and is."
"We'll be back around dinner time, have a good one! Love you two!" Oum smiled.
"BYEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Eda and Ami waved together as the horrifying realization dawned on Bee and Raine:
Their beautiful wives were going to the beach with their adorable granddaughter…without them?
Bee and Raine whimpered, grabbed a chilled bottle of Apple Blood and drank away the day; stopping to watch one of Oum's rom-coms and when Bee had a Creatures and Caverns online match.
Next time: Beach Shenanigans!
The idea for this two parter comes from MetroXLR99 themselves; an Eda and Oum centered adventure at the beach with their granddaughter. I would've liked to do it in a single chapter but recent events have made writing a little tricky.
(Also hoping for reviewers to leave some ideas to help spark the writing process, as this is a feel good story that is helping me through a rough bit)
Still open to suggestions for other adventures for the grandparents to go on; leave suggestions in reviews!
Onto the events of the chapter itself: We see that Ami has inherited her father's bizarre taste in food, which will be showcased and elaborated on in 'City of Angels.' And Domino, Owlbert and Fenec are already so close to/protective of her that they'll come to life whenever she needs them.
(Olivier took Fleetwing with him to the conference, before anyone asks. Mostly as a fancy walking stick, but also so that he and Anne can fly to the Boonchuys house if anything happens to Ami; Fleetwing is MUCH faster than an ambulance/car.)
We also learn that Eda's pizza joint, Claw's Za (which will appear in the next chapter of Brought to a Boil) is apparently no longer running…at least not under her.
The highlight of the chapter however, is probably the news of Marcy's webcomic getting a TV show and setting up what is so far the finale of this story; its pilot episode being shown at Comic-Con. Originally I'd planned for it to be a full length movie, but as this story takes place about a year and a half after the reunion at the end of 'The Hardest thing' (subject to change depending on what MetroXLR99 says), I thought a TV show was more believable.
When coming up with the rough outline for 'Magi-Beast Brats Chronicles', I drew from the pilots of Owl House and Amphibia for inspiration, along with some elements of the anime 'Fruit Basket'. If any readers have suggestions and or questions about the story, feel free to leave them in a review or PM me.
Finally, a little bit of humor in Bee and Raine not being able to enjoy the sights of their gracvefully aging wives in swimwear and spending a day at the beach. A bit extereme of a punishment? Perhaps, yeah…but if I didn't have the hijinks of Eda and Oum soiretd out, I wagered Bee and Raine could add sme comedy.
Also, the hopefully adorable image of a toddler Olivier trying to protect his mommy from 'unworthy/untrustworthy' sorts.
Until we next meet again? Keep safe and take care!
