Michael walked along the halls of Sera's office building where everyone stopped at their tracks upon seeing him and showed their respect accordingly. May it be dimming their light a little or bowing their head a little while quieting themselves. It was only a little to keep the humble virtue intact, but just enough to allow Michael the ability to get where he needed to.
The doors opened themselves once he finally arrived, and he found Sera staring at her new human who was no more than a doll. This Second or Third Woman had ankle length velvet black straight hair with curtain bangs. Her eye color was a light grey like the moon and her complexion was as pale as starlight. Her body was exactly like Lilith's yet where Lilith had sharper features, this doll was softer in comparison.
Michael supposed that the reason it took hundreds of years for Sera to mold this beauty was because she was still trying to make the doll look like Lilith but not at the same time to give off a feeling that this version was "better". He thought it was an impressive feat, yet still a waste of time in the grander scheme of things.
Sera looked over to him, "Michael. I was not expecting you. What brings you here?"
"I decided to see how Eden was doing for myself and I was given quite the report." He walked up to the new human, gave it a look over once more before continuing, "Is there a reason why you are not satisfied with turning Eve into the Second Woman?"
"Yes. Eve was created to be lesser than Adam, and our Second Woman must be his equal. To give him the role would be the equivalent of giving the job of a seraphim to an angel."
"I see your point. However, the analogy is not an equivalent. Remember Sera. When Father created us, it took time to decide the structure as it went. It took him seven days to carefully create Eden, and when one thing happened, Father worked accordingly with it. We lost the First woman to Samael who has taken her to wherever in the vast universe they could be. Yet, we now have someone who Adam treats as his equal. You may consider that as a mistake, but if Father had been here, They would have worked with it accordingly."
Sera kept a stoic expression yet her multiple eyes seemed flushed with heat.
Michael inquired, "Is there a reason why you cannot?"
Sera answered with a steady voice, "Of course not."
Yet Michael calmly scolded, "Let's not begin to lie." Sera's face twitched for a moment, yet Michael continued, "Is this side project," He gestured to the doll. "More important than the main project Father had given you?"
Sera gazed at her creation that she worked so hard to perfect. A creation that could become a far better Second woman than the First woman created by….
Michael saw the hubris in her eyes. A hubris that he tried to not see in Samael's eyes. He wondered why these people couldn't be like his sister, Jophiel who was creative herself yet did not try to force her own ideas upon others, but instead inspire what was created preceding her.
"I see how it is." He remarked disappointingly. Sera's eyes snapped to him and she tried to defend herself again, but Michael wasn't hearing it. "Sera, I advise you to refrain from interfering with the life of Adam until I return with Father to discuss your position in this project."
Michael walked out of the room, having faith that Sera may come to her senses now that Father will be involved. For her to realize that she had overstepped and will relinquish herself of this hubris. Unfortunately, he would come to realize how naive he was when he would return a few decades later.
In the room, instead of heeding his warning, Sera put into motion to bring to life her own idea of perfection, believing Father would be on her side if she saw her success. First, she waited a few years for Michael to search for their Father in the expansive universe, so no one could alert him immediately. That person being Uriel. Sera had the archangel removed from her post as Eden's guardian and replaced her with a new group of angels she labeled The Watchers.
After discovering that Adam was missing, she had them track the man down. They found him living on a tropical island where he created his own version of Eden. They abducted the man while he was fishing and as instructed by Sera, the Watchers found Eve while she was gathering fruits and sealed her in a cave. This was to become her punishment, thinking it was more merciful than being blown out of oblivion. They had no idea what could come of an immortal human soul without food or light.
Canine had tried to save her, but he could not jump high enough or run fast enough to catch the flying beings. He tried to call upon the animals to move the boulder away from the cave but none of them were strong enough.
Not willing to give up, Canine jumped on one of the boats and called upon the long forgotten sea creatures to help him reach the other land. It would take years of travel, but the wolf had to save his family.
Adam tried to fight off the angels but before he knew it, he was forced onto Eden's soil again. "LET ME GO! I DO NOT NEED TO BE HERE! THERE WAS NO RULE FOR ME TO STAY IN EDEN!"
"It is a rule now." Sera arrived looking as ethereal and elegant as usual, yet it came with a coldness that made Adam shiver. "You are forbidden to leave Eden from here on out."
Adam challenged, "Did the One Above allow it?"
Sera answered, "Yes."
"Liar! You're lying in your own twisted way! There is a whole world out there beyond Eden and Eve and I were thriving! We're not meant to stay here! This place was to teach us what it means to be alive and to carry that faith when we face the harsh world out there!"
"That is just what you tell yourselves, but it is not the truth." Sera gently touched his face. Something she had never done before. Adam froze by the warm touch, feeling an emotion that he never felt before. He looked up at the gentle…loving expression from the taller woman. She spoke with a soft voice, "You've suffered so much that you've deluded yourself in order to cope with it."
"No…" Adam remembered Eve's face and tried to back away from the touch, but his body felt light. He tried to regain his anger, "No, I have to get back to my wife. I have to…" He tried to think of Eve's face, but then all he could see in his vision was her orange hair. "Eve…I have to get back to…" He felt something brush against his leg. He looked down to see a fox…a silver fox. The orange hair he saw in his mind turned black and the curls smoothened. "Eve…Eve…" He looked up at Sera, and he still had enough sense to realize what she was doing. Tears ran down his face as he begged, "Please. Please don't do this."
Sera held that soft smile, "It's alright, Adam. You will be with your wife soon. You will be with Eve soon."
Adam knew what she meant and tried to fight it harder, but all the bitter-sweet memories he created on his travels disappeared. All of his scars and imperfections were removed from him in the form of steam and his rugged hands became almost smooth with clean fingernails.
He returned back into the Adam who had just recently lost Lilith.
Sera stepped back and changed her smile into a disappointed frown. Just like centuries ago, she spoke, "Adam."
Adam awoke from his gaze and leaped over to her!
"SERA! So how did it go?! Were you able to get Lilith to come back?!"
"Adam…Lilith will not be coming back. We had tried to reason with her, but it came to our attention that she was a flawed creation."
"What?"
Sera held his shoulders and firmly put, "A mistake, Adam. She was…a mistake."
"Okay…So what happened to her?"
"She has been permanently banished from Eden." Sera was careful this time to not make Adam imagine what was beyond the walls. Instead, she distracted Adam from the details by introducing his new wife. "But do not worry, Adam. The Heavens have created a new companion for you. Let me introduce you to Eve."
Sera stepped aside and let her beautiful creation step forward and speak eloquently just like her, "Hello. My name is Eve."
"Oh wow…" Adam wasn't sure why he felt weird about hearing her name, but he guessed that it was because he was being introduced to a whole new concept. "My name is Adam. It's nice to meet you."
Sera explained to them that although Eve had just arrived, she had been blessed to have children unlike Lilith. Adam found that weird since he imagined that the One Above Themselves would grant this, but he supposed he showed that he was worthy. Not sure how, but he didn't feel comfortable questioning Sera.
The seraphim excused herself, and Adam tried to smile, but he felt extremely uncomfortable being left with the stranger due to the sudden blessing. He forced himself to speak, "So, uhm, would you like a tour of Eden?"
"I would like that."
"Oh! Great!" Adam took out his lute and began singing about the animal kingdom and all about gardening while swinging through trees, sliding down hillsides, diving from waterfalls and then just cozying on a bed made of feathers while stargazing.
"So what do you think of Eden? Pretty amazing huh."
Eve giggled and exclaimed, "It was wonderful! I love your singing! Will you be teaching me how to play an instrument?"
"Sure! I'd love to!"
"Lovely! I truly believe we will be the best companions." Eve placed a hand on Adam's chest and scooted herself over to snuggle up to him.
Adam froze, having never been intimate like this with Lilith. He didn't know what to do, so he stayed still until he needed to go use the restroom. Eve told him not to take too long because she would feel lonely. Adam forced a light laugh and quickly walked out of the situation.
Yet as he left, he thought he was being the weird one. They were supposed to be companions so shouldn't he reciprocate? Was he failing God by not doing so? He supposed that he spent enough time existing with Lilith that at this point he should be intimate with Eve so he could catch up on doing his job of creating new life…
After using the restroom, he meant to go back immediately, but he stood there, trying to get his nerves ready. But when he thought of her touch again, he decided to run off to sleep with the lions.
Eve eventually found him, and he apologized, "Sorry. I just wasn't sure if I was ready to make a new life yet."
For a moment, Adam thought he saw her glare at him, but she laughed, "Aw! You're so shy! I apologize for being too forward. Alright then. I'll leave you to sleep with the lions and see you in the morning."
"Okay. Eve, I'm sorry again. I'll try to reciprocate as best as I can."
Eve gave him a smile, "Thank you. Good night."
"Good night."
Since that night, Adam had tried his best to get along with Eve, and it was going great. At first they worked together to take care of the animals and the garden, but after Eve got hurt while shearing the sheep, Adam took it upon himself to take care of the animals and Eve took care of the garden. But then Eve accidentally slipped on the manure meant for the plants, and became so upset that Adam promised to take care of the more unsavory parts of gardening.
Seeing how fragile and dependent she was, it made Adam want to protect her physically and emotionally. So when she would snuggle up to him at night, touching him in areas that he barely touched himself, he didn't make a comment. Well he did once when it became far too uncomfortable, but after seeing her tearful hurt look, he stopped.
As for Sera, she used to visit only every decade, but this time, she has taken it upon herself to visit yearly. And when she would visit, Eve was the one who reported on how they were doing. Sera never bothered to ask Adam how he was doing personally, and Adam never tried to speak up, fearing that he would only sound dumb compared to them. Eve just sounded so smart that she always spoke words that Adam didn't understand. Eve took the time to slowly explain to him when they had the time to talk. Her sighs at always having to do so made him apologize yet even when she would tell him it was okay, the guilt never left.
That guilt kept building up more and more that he tried to work harder and harder to at least try to make up for his shortcomings. Yet they never seem enough when Eve would pick out the "ugly" fruits he harvested. That should've been ludicrous since they lived in paradise, but he remembered how Lilith criticized it, so he thought that he was simply too dumb to understand. He didn't want to ask Eve since he depended on her too much. So he tried his best to figure out which fruit was "correct", but no matter how much he tried, a majority of his harvest was always "ugly" while her own harvest was the opposite. Eve did compliment him, but looking at the difference before him, he knew she was just trying to be nice.
At times he thought he truly failed at being the First man, but somehow when he had those thoughts, Eve would pull him right out by doing something special for him, like deciding not to organize the fruits anymore and calling herself dumb for being so picky. Adam felt he had purpose again by complimenting her.
Life would feel great but then get awkward and then become uncomfortable until he feels what he believes was misery, but Eve always got him feeling great again. Adam figured that was how life worked.
That was until one day, Adam was wandering across the walls, trying to find a lost goat who might've wanted to challenge itself by traveling across the stones instead of the rocky mountains. He stopped when he came across a drawing on one of the stones. He found it strange because none of the other animals knew how to draw, and the stick figures looked human.
He wondered if it was Eve who drew them, but while one looked like him, the other stick figure had been painted with orange bumpy hair.
"Orange hair…?"
"Meeeeeh!"
Adam remembered his task and quickly caught the goat. He looked back to where the drawing was, but then he became self-conscious of the angels above when one flew by. The Watchers did not speak to him, which was to be expected, but unlike Uriel, they never even bothered to give him a wave or a smile back. Instead, they looked down at him with the same look Eve tended to give him when he wasn't looking, but Adam would catch it in the reflections around them.
Just a face full of annoyance.
Because of that, Adam didn't like going near the walls, so decided to forget about the drawing.
At least he tried, but when he looked at the sunset and the bumpy clouds, he thought about how beautiful it would be if someone had such hair like that. When he watched the sunset by the rocky area, he loved the brown shade the orange sunlight gave it. When day came, he suddenly felt a deep love for the color of blue, green and brown in nature. The next thing Adam knew, he was drawing a brown stick figure with long orange bumpy hair and carefully he painted beady eyes with blue, green and brown in them. It looked weird, yet Adam felt comforted staring at it.
When he tended to the animals, he thought about how the bunnies were the most adorable creatures God had created. The next thing he knew, he was trying to create a more realistic painting of a person with bunny-like features and long orange curly hair, warm brown skin and hazel eyes on a piece of stone. He would then wash and scrub the paint away with a pumice stone so Eve didn't get the wrong idea.
As time went by, Adam began craving this imaginary person that made his anxiety melt away. He would imagine this person looking at him fondly and appreciate how hard he worked through the manure. He would imagine this person holding up a bunny and trying to twitch their nose the same way they do. He would imagine this person speaking so enthusiastically. He couldn't think of the words they said, but even though he didn't understand, just hearing them talk made him feel so much joy. And he imagined they would explain the things he didn't understand in such a fun way and in not such a…demeaning way.
"Is everything okay, Adam?" Eve asked. She was talking about the stars while they "cuddled" and using such difficult jargon, and he would usually be apologetic for not understanding, yet now, he was coldly silent.
Adam sat up and confessed, "I'm sorry. I can't do this anymore."
Eve furrowed her brows. She sat up with him, "What are you talking about?"
Adam stood up and took a few steps away from her. He opened his mouth yet nothing came out. But when he heard the rustling of her getting up to get close to him again, he blurted out, "It's not you." He took a deep breath. "I can't do this anymore, but it's not because of you. I know I don't measure up to being the First man you hoped for just like Lilith. Everything I do is never good enough for you."
"Adam, what are you talking about? I never thought that." Eve touched his arms, but he shook her off and stepped away from her.
Adam wasn't looking at her face, but his blood ran cold and his nerves were letting out muffled screams under his skin for him to run away. It was as if there were other eyes on his body that witnessed the face she made. Yet he stood there, rationalizing that he was simply nervous and guilty.
Eve didn't let out a loud sigh, but the held back exasperation in her voice was evident as she spoke, "No, you're right. It's my fau-"
"D-don't please." Adam felt his guilt rise as it had always done, yet he felt his annoyance become stronger. Still, he believed it was his job to be gentler, "It's none of our fault. Sera made you to be perfect and I am clearly not. Otherwise, Lilith wouldn't have left me. I think I'm not suited to be the First man."
"Adam." Eve touched his hand. "We've only been together for a few years. Yes, Sera said that we can start making a new human, but she didn't demand that we do it quickly. We're both still trying to figure it out, so let's try and figure it out together." She gave him a sweet smile.
Adam felt like vomiting for being such a putrid jerk, yet he's also annoyed because he knows this pattern. Nothing Eve said was hiding mockery or disdain, but her actions always spoke the loudest. Adam obviously didn't want her to touch him but she still insisted. She always insisted that they touched, and he's beginning to catch on that she enjoyed how uncomfortable it made him.
He pulled his hand away from her, and she placed her hand on her arm. He tried to move away from her touch, but she gripped his arm while holding that terrifyingly beautiful calm smile. He held back his anger as he replied, "I had once dreamed of what it was like to have children like the other animals, but for a long time since, I stopped having that dream. It never came back. Not once when I usually would dream of supporting my wife through such a difficult but blessed delivery."
"Are…are you blaming me?"
"No. Like I said you are perfect and I'm not. We were made for each other, but clearly we're not meant for each other. I'm sorry that you have to hear such hurtful things." Adam took a deep breath, "If I were to be banished, then you no longer will have to hear them. You'll be happier with a better man."
SLAP!
Adam had been hit by animals before. He had accidentally gotten kicked by a horse. He had accidentally been rammed down and stabbed by several horned animals. He had been bitten and clawed at by many others. But that was just for not being careful.
This was the first time someone had hurt him for expressing himself.
SLAP! SLAP! WHAM!
Adam found himself on the floor, his cheeks tensing and burning, and he was gasping for air after the wind had been knocked out of him.
BAM! BAM! BAM! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!
Adam had been kicked, whacked by a stick, and had his hair pulled so his face could be punched again and again. He was far too confused to process the attack because no one had done it this viciously.
Eventually it stopped. Adam was on the ground, bleeding and bruised, not sure of where was left or right or where all his body parts were. All he knew was that he was in so much pain.
He felt his hair being tugged again and a voice speaking to him, "You won't ruin this for me! I was created to keep you here in Eden at all cost. I was told to make you feel important, but to not let it go to your head. That I had to be in control at all times, and you were going along with it so well! What the fuck happened to make you gain the gall to leave ME!" Adam felt his jaw being clenched tightly to keep his eyes on a blurry blackness that was even darker than the night sky. "It doesn't matter. You are not leaving Eden or else I will have you be ruined by the animals you love so much."
Adam's eyes widened, not sure what Eve was planning to do with them, but after what she had done to him, he didn't want to know.
Suddenly, Eve hugged him and wailed, "Dammit! I didn't want to do this! But you forced my hand! Why did you make me do this?! Why?!"
Adam wanted to cry, too but he forgot how to. As he laid there helplessly, listening to Eve's wails, he began believing he was being too silly after all. He was selfish. As the First man, he shouldn't have become so…evil. He was letting false made up desires get in the way of completing his duty to God. That is probably why Eve was the way she was.
If Lilith was a mistake, he must be one, too, and Eve needed to correct him.
The next morning, Adam took it upon himself to prepare breakfast for Eve and was relieved to see her smile and compliment him as if last night didn't happen. He went back to work despite his injuries and did receive some affection from the animals who licked his wounds.
He then thought he should make dinner, but instead, he found himself on a rocky cliff, staring at the orange sun. He felt safe doing so.
"Adam."
The voice didn't come in any direction, but Adam turned his head and saw a hallucination of the person with orange curly hair.
He decided to speak with it for once, "You're not real. I need to stop thinking about you. Because of you, I almost defied God."
"I don't see it that way." The hallucination sat down next to him to watch the orange sunset. "You were trying to step away from what was clearly not an equal relationship. It's taken such a toll on you that what you cannot speak is taking form in me."
"But as the First man…" Adam didn't understand why his hand suddenly felt warm when he imagined the hallucination touching it. It wasn't a real warmth but one that felt like he experienced it before.
"It's not only your burden. You shouldn't be facing this alone, yet this Eve has been treating you as her lesser when you two are supposed to be equals. If anyone had shown defiance first, it was her the moment she hit and threatened you last night."
"But I…" He teared up and whimpered, "I don't know what to do. She terrifies me! Sera won't listen to me! None of the animals understand what I'm going through! I'm all alone!"
"Adam…" The hallucination wrapped their arms around him from behind. He could feel the warmth and softness of their cheek against the side of his head. "You have your own strength and intelligence. The animals adore you and Eden is as much your home as Eve's, and you can do anything. She took you by surprise, but now that you know, you can prepare to fight back because you must never forget, You are-" For a moment, Adam thought the hallucination was real because the voice sounded so real, "A man of so much worth."
Adam's tears that had been thick and cold against his heated face thinned out. He stood up and quickly ran off before the sun completely set to get into the bear cave. It wasn't to hide since the Watchers saw everything and would help Eve find him. It was because Adam knew that the bears would protect him from her. Eve may be their master as well, but because Adam actually took care of them, his command overruled hers.
Eve tried to beg him to come out kindly, apologizing for last night, but Adam tuned her out in favor of listening to the hallucination that stayed by his side. Eve then began threatening to keep her promise of ruining Adam with the animals, yet that only enraged the bears to chase her away. She tried to get the Watchers to intervene, but because it was Adam's choice to stay inside, they could not interfere.
The next day, Adam had the bears communicate with the other animals to create a boundary between him and Eve as the man continued his chores. Eve tried to force her way through, but the animals refused to budge, and if she got an inch, the strongest and fiercest animals would push her back.
Again, Eve tried to get the Watchers to do something, but they weren't allowed to touch the wildlife. She demanded for all 20 of them to be before her to see who will do as she ordered, but all of them rejected.
"You cannot be serious! Your job is to do as I say! I will be the mother of humanity! I am the One who will do the one thing the One Above made this paradise for! How do you expect me to do my job when these stupid animals are in my way!"
"If you have such complaints, then why not call down Sera?"
"Azazel!"
"What? I'm right, aren't I, Samyaza? You agree with me, don't you, Yeqon?"
"Better question, do we have to do anything at all? Because personally, I think Adam should be separated from Eve."
Hearing that, Adam actually looked at the angels who had taken on human-esque forms. Samyaza, the leader of the Watchers, had a sharp triangle face with mid-length long straight hair that was as white as clouds. And his sharp eyes were a pale green. He had broad shoulders decorated with a blue, black and orange gem collar reminiscent of the different shades of the sky, and his lower half was covered by a long white skirt tucked in.
Azazel had a triangle face but it was softened by the blue paint lined with black above her eyes and gold dust on her cheeks. She had waist length black hair decorated with bands of gold and colorful beads. She wore a leather apron which Adam had learned to create with the skin of the animals he slaughtered for the predators, yet the angel's own was obviously of better quality. She also wore leather gloves and long baggy ash grey pants tightened at her waist.
Yeqon, the one who defended Adam, had a long soft face with onyx eyes that almost appeared to fall asleep. Unlike Samyaza or Azazel who took strong masculine or feminine qualities, Yeqon, though bald, was androgynous. They wore a short wrapped skirt and full chest necklace. Adam couldn't help staring at their body, oddly finding familiarity in its shape.
"What?! You cannot be serious!" Eve roared!
Yeqon giggled, their voice deep with a lilt, "I saw how you beat this poor man just for rejecting your advances. Personally, I think Sera made a mistake waking you up in heaven. She obviously made a brat who thinks she owns everything in sight, including us."
Samyaza spoke, "Let's not speak ill of our superior."
"But they're right." Azazel agreed, "We may not be an expert on humans, but we're not dumb enough to think this is normal. We fight amongst ourselves, but we never viciously beat someone who didn't have it coming."
Samyaza fell silent, deep in thoughts before answering, "I agree."
"WHAT?!"
Samyaza projected his voice, "Eve, what you had done the night before was out of line. Adam isn't a toy for you to play around with."
"How is he not?! All he has to do is stick his dick in me, and I have to do all the work inside this body to bring new life! Isn't that unfair! Shouldn't I decide how our relationship goes since I sacrifice more of myself for God's plan!"
Adam hadn't thought of it that way that he felt his guilt return. But before he could speak, Yeqon rationalized, "That is true. You do use most of your body to provide new life. So do these animal mothers, yet there's a stark difference. These mothers do not complain about the unfairness of their position because they understand it's a gift to have children, but you make it sound like it's a burden."
Eve's face dropped. "I-I didn-"
"Who calls giving new life a sacrifice? It's not like you'll cease to exist on Eden by giving birth to this child? If that was the case, we might think differently, but right now, you have no ground to say such words. Perhaps we should call Sera down and report on your behavior towards Adam. Or perhaps because you think it's so unfair that you are the one to carry the child, how about we switch your genders? How about it, Adam?"
Adam covered his chest with his arms. "I have no problem taking on the role and still doing my chores as the First man, but I won't feel safe if sh-she is the father."
"Dear child," A different Watcher approached him and wrapped his wings around him. Adam was surprised to see a gorgeous celestial night sky hidden in the inside of the wings. The angel had wide features covered in flecks of silver, and yellow eyes that shone in the darkness. "Allow Kokabel to open your eyes to the vastness of the universe beautified by the stars. All is well."
Yeqon continued, "You see that? Adam had no hesitation whatsoever to take on the role nor did he even have a glint in his eye that he would take advantage of it like you do. He actually wants nothing to do with you and who else could be blamed for that but yourself."
Eve teared up yet her face was still contorted in rage. "I will have Sera have you all removed! You may be her Watchers but I am her perfect design! She'll listen to me over the lot of you!"
Yeqon retorted, "Are you sure about that? Yes, you were made to be perfect, but the point of your perfection was to make sure Adam wants to stay in Eden with you. But he wants nothing to do with you. Does that sound like perfection that Sera wants to see?"
Eve wanted to argue, but she slowly realized her mistake. She still thought she had every right to treat Adam like dirt because she was the better creation, but her life hinged on Adam reciprocating her physical affections. She thought his dick would rise out of duty even if Adam didn't want it, but after many nights together, that was not true.
She reluctantly accepted her loss and walked away. Kokabel rose his wings, and Adam saw her retreating back, making him let out a sigh of relief. He then made a shy step towards Yeqon and softly spoke, "Thank you very much for defending me."
Yeqon petted his head and caressed down to cup his cheek like a pet, "You shouldn't thank me since we didn't interfere in your fight in the first place. We're still your enemies in all this."
Samyaza whispered their name curtly and shook their head. Yeqon nodded back.
Adam didn't think too much about that action since angels and human business were separate. Yet he said, "I understand that you have your duties, so something like calling yourselves my enemies is too harsh. You are my guardians. You're important people to me." He blushed at his own sentimental words, "I'm scared to have children with Eve, but with you guys around, I may have the courage to go through with it. Just not right now."
Azazel sighed and flew away.
"Did I say something wrong?"
Samyaza quickly replied, "No. Just…" Adam wasn't sure if he was actually seeing guilt written on his face. "We need to return to our post." He flew away and the other angels followed him except for Yeqon.
They told him, "We are bound by duty, but that doesn't excuse our actions. Hopefully, you'll realize it soon." They flew away.
Adam thought the angels were upset over not stopping the fight, but found their reactions to be too over the top. Azazel did say none of the angels ever hurt each other as viciously as Eve, so that may be it.
No matter the case, he forgave them and returned back to his work.

A/N: And there are your Watchers! I decided to go the Egyptian route with how they dressed because one of them actually became the god Horus in a mythology, but he may not be mentioned in the story. I wanted to go with an Asian theme but that would be hopping over heavy religious implications, so I went the easier route.
For Fake Eve's appearance, all the women represent different times in the sky if it wasn't obvious enough. Lilith represents the day which symbolizes "Enlightenment" but it's synonymous with "Skepticism". Fake Eve represents the night which symbolizes "Ignorance". The real Eve was made with the sunset in mind, but the sunrise is honestly no different, so she represents the twilight, which is a symbol of "Moral Ambiguity".
Adam was unable to understand Lilith; he is harmed by the Fake Eve; He finds a middle ground with the real Eve.
