Chapter 1: Breaking Dawn
BEACON ACADEMY COURTYARD
Azzurri Starwalker strolled casually through the vibrant courtyard of Beacon Academy, his unbuttoned blue jacket billowing slightly in the breeze. Beneath it, he wore a black undershirt that contrasted sharply with his black jeans, giving him a sleek and understated appearance. His black boots clicked softly against the stone paths as he moved, his hands occasionally slipping into his pockets as he surveyed the bustling activity around him. With a relaxed and confident air, he waved at a few random girls passing by, flashing them a charming smile. Most of them giggled or smiled back, clearly amused by his carefree attitude. However, his mind was elsewhere, constantly searching for something to occupy his time.
His sharp ears caught the sounds of an argument nearby, drawing his attention. Ruby Rose, a small, silver-eyed girl in a black combat skirt and red hood, was arguing with another girl whose appearance screamed wealth and privilege—white attire, refined posture, and an air of arrogance. Azzurri's eyes darted to the ground, where the girl's luggage lay scattered, filled with Dust canisters and vials. His interest piqued, Azzurri turned, intending to walk over and see what was going on. However, before he could make a move, he saw Ruby's nose twitch. Her eyes widened, and she took a sharp breath.
"FUCK" Azzurri muttered under his breath, realizing what was about to happen. His warning came too late. Ruby sneezed.
The next moment erupted into chaos. A brilliant explosion of color and energy burst from the mishandled Dust, creating a shockwave that rippled through the courtyard. Azzurri was thrown several meters back, landing on his back with a heavy thud that briefly knocked him out as his aura flickered. The explosion created a whirlwind of blue, red, and green flames that momentarily blinded the surrounding students.
When Azzurri's senses returned, he could hear the berating voice of the girl scolding Ruby, who was desperately trying to apologize. Azzurri groaned softly, rubbing the back of his head as his aura stopped flickering, healing the minor bruises he'd sustained. None of the girls noticed him lying there, his aura worked overtime to repair the damage. He slowly stood up, dusting himself off with a sigh. "Well, that was fun," he muttered sarcastically. "Gotta find Zinnia. Maybe she's got something interesting going on."
As Azzurri started to move away from the scene, his eyes darted around, as he was thinking hard, trying to figure out where Zinnia might be. Just as he was about to make a decision, he collided with someone.
"Oof!"* He stumbled back slightly, looking up to see who he'd bumped into—a tall, striking girl with fiery red hair and emerald green eyes. She wore a red and bronze gladiator-style combat skirt and red and golden overbus corset, paired with brown leather boots. Her expression was apologetic but also slightly bewildered.
"Sorry about that!" the girl said, her tone polite yet carrying a hint of firmness.
Azzurri sighed dramatically, his face reflecting exaggerated frustration. "I was this close... THIS CLOSE to finding a solution... a solution to my serious boredom problems and then... WHACK... POOF... my genius idea is gone," he lamented, his hand gesturing wildly as if emphasizing the scale of his 'genius idea.'
The girl, who Azzurri quickly recognized as Pyrrha Nikos—the Invincible Girl of Mistral—seemed taken aback by his intensity. "Uh... Sorry," she repeated, though a smile tugged at her lips.
Seeing her reaction, Azzurri's demeanor changed instantly from exaggerated frustration to his usual calm and collected self. "Don't worry about it. I'm cool," he said smoothly, his sudden shift catching Pyrrha off guard.
Azzurri then pointed a finger at her, as if recalling something important. "Hey, wait a second… I've seen you before. You were in the Mistralian Tournament, right?"
Pyrrha's expression shifted slightly, her smile fading into something more reserved, almost sad. "Champion, yes... That's what everyone has come to know me by... Not who I really am." She sighed softly, her eyes looking away as if searching for the right words. "Have you ever had that feeling? Even here, at Beacon, on my first day, I already have an army of fans calling me 'Invincible Girl' and asking for autographs. It's… not right."
Azzurri nodded thoughtfully, his usual nonchalant demeanor turning serious. "First... I don't exactly know that feeling of people knowing me by what I've accomplished—not because I haven't accomplished anything… Oh no. It's because I'm quite secretive. And, I'd say I'm quite humble."
Pyrrha's brows furrowed slightly. "Are you implying that I'm not humble?"
Azzurri smoothly continued without missing a beat. "Secondly, you might want to consider wearing a hooded cloak or something, and... Thirdly, 'Invincible Girl' is an awfully simple nickname. 'God of War' is much better"
Pyrrha blinked, a mixture of confusion and mild amusement crossing her face. "God of War... that's suggestive and morally incompatible with a Huntress—"
Azzurri cut her off with a grin. "You think I was suggesting that nickname for you? No, no, no. That's *my* nickname—MY nickname. I hear it in my mind a lot, actually, and I love it."
Pyrrha couldn't help but smile at his confidence, though a part of her was still perplexed by his unconventional style. "Well, I suppose... it's important to have self-belief," she murmured.
Azzurri leaned in slightly, revealing that she was taller than him, but his confidence never wavered. "Absolutely! I'm a really good friend. And though none of my friends told me that, I think I'm a good friend. And that's all one needs—belief in themselves. See ya around." He waved casually and started to walk away, muttering to himself, "I am so wise."
Pyrrha watched him leave, a small, bemused smile on her lips. He was certainly different, and in a way, refreshing.
OUTSIDE THE AMPHITHEATRE
Azzurri made his way toward the Beacon Amphitheatre, his pace quickening as he spotted his foster sister, Zinnia Scarlet, standing with a blonde girl who was enthusiastically chatting away. As he got closer, he realized that the blonde was none other than Yang Xiao Long someone his sister told himabout. Without missing a beat, Azzurri slid smoothly between the two girls, a sly grin on his face.
"Azzurri... Wow, it is you!" Yang exclaimed, clearly recognizing him. "I've heard so much about you."
Azzurri greeted her with his signature charm, bowing slightly. "Pleasure's all mine. Tell me, Yang… do you have a brother named Ying by any chance?"
Yang laughed, shaking her head. "Nope, no brother named Ying."
Zinnia, who had been standing by, folded her arms and eyed Azzurri with mock suspicion. "And what brings you here so early? I thought you'd be off doing something… less productive."
Azzurri shrugged. "I thought something fun might happen on the first day of school, but clearly, I was wrong. I can't win everyday I guess"
He suddenly remembered something, a spark of mischief lighting up his eyes. "Oh yeah, I ran into Pyrrha Nikos on my way here. Thought you'd like to know."
Zinnia's face lit up with intrigue. "Really? What did you tell her?"
Azzurri smirked. "We talked about stuff, y'know. Hooded clothes, nicknames, and how mine is much better than hers and how I am much better than her… regular stuff."
Zinnia's smile turned to a frown. "You didn't annoy her, did you?"
Azzurri, ever the picture of calm, responded, "No way… I just added some flair to her day. She should be grateful—that's all she's going to get besides autograph-hungry fans all day."
Zinnia gave him a skeptical look. "So you didn't ask for an autograph, then?"
Azzurri feigned offense. "I might be modest, but..." he began, but Zinnia cut him off with a strong refusal.
He chuckled and continued, "But surely, I am not so lost as to ask a classmate...future classmate if she can keep up...for an autograph."
Yang watched this back-and-forth with amusement but also a hint of curiosity. She couldn't quite figure Azzurri out, which intrigued her. She leaned in closer. "So, what's the deal with you two? Siblings or… something else?"
Zinnia rolled her eyes playfully. "Foster siblings. We've been stuck together since we were... adolescents"
Azzurri gave Yang a half-smile, his eyes glinting with a playful challenge. "And what about you, Yang? You got any interesting tales of heroism or mischief to share?"
Yang grinned. "Oh, plenty. But maybe I'll save them for when we know each other a bit better."
Azzurri chuckled. "I look forward to it." He noticed the doors to the amphitheater with barely anybody inside gestured toward them. "We should get going, wouldn't want to be late... Oh my god saying something like that is making me sick"
As Azzurri, Zinnia, and Yang entered the Beacon Academy amphitheater, they were greeted by the sight of hundreds of new students entering eagerly awaiting their introduction to the prestigious academy. The large, circular room was filled with rows of seats, each packed with students who were a mixture of excitement, nervousness, and determination. Overhead, the domed ceiling showcased the grandeur of the institution, with banners displaying the symbols of the four Kingdoms fluttering gently in the soft breeze from the air conditioning.
Spotting an empty column of seats near the center, Yang led the way, her usual confident stride making her stand out among the crowd. Azzurri followed close behind, his posture relaxed and composed, while Zinnia walked beside him, her keen eyes observing the students around them with quiet interest.
As they settled into their seats, Yang noticed her younger sister, Ruby, making her way through the crowd. "Ruby! Over here!" Yang called out, waving her hand high above her head to catch Ruby's attention.
Ruby's face lit up when she saw her sister, and she quickly made her way over, a blonde boy following awkwardly in her wake. As Ruby approached, Azzurri greeted her with his usual calm demeanor. "Good to see you, Ruby," he said, his voice smooth and warm.
Ruby blushed slightly at the greeting, not expecting Azzurri to be so friendly. She glanced away shyly, but Yang caught the exchange and raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "What's going on here?" Yang asked playfully, her eyes flicking between Ruby and Azzurri.
"N-Nothing!" Ruby stammered, trying to deflect. She quickly turned to Zinnia, eager to change the subject. "Zinnia, I ran into Weiss Schnee earlier... It didn't go too well," Ruby admitted, scratching the back of her head sheepishly. "She's kind of… difficult."
Zinnia nodded thoughtfully. "Weiss, huh? I've heard about her. Sounds like she's under a lot of pressure, but still... You might want to try making peace, just in case you end up on the same team."
Ruby and the blonde boy, exchanged incredulous looks. "Us? On the same team as Weiss? That's impossible," the boy said, shaking his head with a bemused grin.
Azzurri, who had been listening quietly, interjected with a low, thoughtful murmur. "Making peace can only take you so far. Where war is necessary, war is necessary," he said, his tone half joking, half serious
Zinnia, who had always been the more empathetic of the two, frowned and shook her head. "War should never be necessary, Azzurri. It's something to be avoided whenever possible."
Azzurri simply huffed in response, his expression unreadable. He then turned his attention to the boy, offering him a polite smile. "Jaune, right? Nice to meet you."
Jaune grinned back, extending a hand. "Yeah, that's me. You're Azzurri, right? I've heard some interesting things about you."
"All good, I hope," Azzurri replied, shaking Jaune's hand firmly.
Yang, meanwhile, was moving past Azzurri to get to her seat. As she did, there was a brief, accidental brush of contact between them. Azzurri felt a mischievous smirk tug at the corner of his lips as Yang turned back to face him, her eyes flashing red with irritation.
"Do not EVER do that again," Yang warned, her voice low and threatening, every word dripping with barely contained anger.
Azzurri didn't flinch. "I apologize," he said calmly, his tone so composed it almost defused Yang's anger on the spot. Yang blinked, surprised by his immediate and sincere apology, and her temper cooled slightly. No one else had noticed the brief exchange, and Yang let the moment pass, though she made a mental note to keep an eye on Azzurri.
Before Yang could fully settle into her seat, a flash of red hair caught her attention. Rez, wearing his usual black shirt with red outlines, black jeans, and black sneakers with red laces, slid into the seat beside her. Yang's frustration spiked again, and she rounded on Rez, ready to give him a piece of her mind.
But before she could speak, Azzurri suddenly exclaimed, "Wait, where's my scroll?" His voice had an edge of panic that was entirely out of character, causing everyone to pause.
Yang blinked at him, momentarily thrown off by Azzurri's sudden change in demeanor. She watched as he frantically patted down his pockets, only to pull out his scroll from his back pocket. He let out a sigh of relief, but then noticed everyone staring at him.
He cleared his throat, his composure returning. "I… didn't want to ask my father for a new one," he explained, slightly embarrassed. "It's not easy the two of us don't get along... I can't respect him... I just can't"
Yang, her earlier irritation fading, decided to let it go. She turned back to Ruby, resuming their earlier conversation. "So, how have you been, sis? What've you been up to since we split up this morning?"
Ruby hesitated for a moment, her eyes darting around as if looking for an escape. Then, with a resigned sigh, she admitted, "Oh yeah… I blew up."
Yang's eyes widened in disbelief. "What? You blew up? How is that even possible?"
Before Ruby could respond, Weiss Schnee arrived, her pristine white outfit immaculate as always. She wore a short white dress with an icy blue trim, her family's emblem prominently displayed on her chest. Her long white hair was tied back in a neat ponytail, and her icy blue eyes were filled with annoyance as she focused on Ruby.
Weiss crossed her arms and glared at Ruby, clearly recalling the earlier dust incident. "You! You're the one who nearly blew us off the cliff this morning!" Weiss accused, her voice sharp and haughty. "Clueless and too young for Beacon Academy, that's what you are."
Ruby winced, but tried to apologize. "I'm really sorry about that! It was an accident, I swear!"
Weiss wasn't having it. "An accident? You're lucky you didn't get expelled on your first day! People like you don't belong at Beacon."
Yang, now fully understanding what had happened, shot a glance at Azzurri. "So, you did walk past that explosion, and you didn't think much of it?"
Azzurri shrugged nonchalantly. " First I didn't walk past it... I flew past it and second I don't think much about anything… I don't overthink."
Yang rolled her eyes, exasperated. "You never think much of anything, do you?"
Azzurri offered a half-smile, acknowledging her point without argument.
As the tension between Ruby and Weiss escalated further, Yang stood up, stepping between the two girls. "Hey, hey, let's not fight. Maybe you two should try to get along. Who knows? You might end up being friends someday."
Weiss scoffed at the idea, her voice dripping with condescension. "Friends? With her? Please. I don't befriend people who can't even comport themselves in public. She's like a toddler in a candy store—completely out of control."
Yang's fists clenched at Weiss's harsh words, her protective instincts kicking in. But before she could say anything, Rez leaned over to Azzurri and whispered, "I think a fight between Yang and Weiss is about to break out. Should we step in?"
Azzurri, ever the strategist, assessed the situation calmly. "A fight is unlikely. Zinnia will probably intervene before it gets that far."
And right on cue, Zinnia stepped forward, her expression firm but calm as she addressed the two arguing girls. "Weiss, Ruby, that's enough. We're all here to become Huntsmen and Huntresses. There's no point in fighting among ourselves."
Weiss, however, wasn't ready to back down. She shot a sharp look at Zinnia. "And you think it's acceptable for someone as uncoordinated as Ruby to be in a Huntsman Academy? That's abhorrent!"
Zinnia's eyes narrowed slightly, but she kept her voice steady. "We're not the ones standing in the way of people pursuing their dreams, Weiss. Everyone here has earned their place."
Weiss's voice grew colder, each word laced with disdain. "The work we do is killing Grimm, Zinnia. And she's too immature for it."
At that moment, Azzurri decided to step in. He approached the group, his voice calm yet authoritative. "Look, whatever Ruby wants to do, it's none of your business, Weiss. If she gets herself killed it's none of your business, Weiss... maybe I shouldn't have said that" Azzurri said calmly but mutters the last part"
Weiss turned her icy gaze on him, about to retort, but Azzurri cut her off before she could speak. "We're recruiting the next generation of Huntsmen and Huntresses. You don't get to decide who's competent or not."
Weiss, stunned by Azzurri's directness, began to argue, "But having incompetence—"
"You're not the queen of everyone, Weiss," Azzurri interrupted, his tone firm. He then raised his hand slightly, using his air manipulation semblance to gently lift the tiara from Weiss's head. "TAKE OFF YOUR CROWN and act like a normal person," he said, letting the tiara fall to the ground.
The amphitheater fell into a stunned silence as Weiss's tiara hit the floor. Everyone stared, some in shock, others in awe as Glynda mounted the pupit.
OUTSIDE THE AMPITHEATRE
Azzurri and Rez were walking aimlessly in the crowd as Ruby and Jaune went off in some other direction as well as Yang and Zinnia. After the two boys walked a few steps, they were met by a voice which was only familiar to Azzurri.
"I honestly didn't think I will see you coward around this parts. Luckily I came prepared and with a little backup heh-heh" an ominous loud voice sneered at him as a smirk played across Azzurri's lips as Cardin and Dove stepped forward, brandishing their weapons with confident scowls. Cardin's mace, The Executioner, was a brutal-looking weapon, its spiked head gleaming ominously under the light. It was designed to crush, leaving no doubt about the damage it could inflict. Beside him, Dove held his weapon, Hallshot, a sleek and versatile weapon that functioned as both a sword and a mid-range rifle. The sight of the pair gearing up to fight seemed to only amuse Azzurri further.
"What's this? You guys actually have weapons?" he said, his tone dripping with mock surprise. His fiery red eyes gleamed with a mischievous light as he cracked his knuckles. "Looks like my day isn't over after all."
With that, Azzurri slid into a basic fighting stance, his movements fluid and practiced. The air around him began to shift, a gentle breeze stirring at first, but it quickly grew stronger, whipping through the area with increasing intensity. Dust from the ground swirled into the air, and the faint hum of elemental energy seemed to resonate as if responding to his growing anticipation.
Cardin sneered, his grip tightening on The Executioner. "Dove," he barked, his voice filled with smug confidence. "Let's teach this punk a lesson he won't forget."
The two launched forward, their movements synchronized with years of sparring experience. Azzurri didn't flinch. If anything, his smirk widened.
"Oh, yeah, let's do that," Azzurri taunted, his voice laced with sarcasm. "If the lesson is that standing up for people comes without consequences, or that bullies like you aren't just so strong…" His tone suddenly shifted, brimming with energy. "Then please, by all means—school me!"
Dove surged forward, his weapon, Hallshot, glinting dangerously as he transitioned from rifle mode to blade mode mid-charge. The strike was precise and fast, almost catching Azzurri off guard. The blade came within inches of his side, but Azzurri twisted his body at the last second, the wind around him exploding outward to create just enough space.
"Close, but not close enough," Azzurri muttered, his smirk never wavering as the air rippled with his elemental control. Azzurri ducked under another attack from Dove's sword before flipping backwards in the air and kicking Dove in the chin while doing it and then landing in a spider-man like pose while forming an earth pillar sending Cardin—who was about to hit Azzurri several feet in the air as Cardin regained himself mid air and smashing The Executioner into the ground causing an explosive shockwave sending Azzurri back as Dove came in for a follow up slash on Azzurri but he dodged effortlessly as he dodged a few more slashes by just tilting himself slightly in different directions as Dove lost balance after missing another strike with Azzurri seeing the opportunity and punching him in the gut before using air manipulation to give Dove three quick-fire punches to the gut sending Dove airborne "C'mon... are you guys making it easy for me on purpose. You two should work like a team and attack me together" Azzurri said as Rez appeared behind him and interjected quietly "Are you sure you should be giving the enemy advice" "I just need them to fight me better... y'know give me a challenge" Azzurri said as Rez resigned saying okay before disappearing into the crowd... literally as Cardin spoke up "Don't get so high and mighty hotshot" Cardin said as he charged with The Executioner in hand as he fired the weapon using the recoil to increase his speed as Azzurri jumped out of the way of the initial strike of the mace as Dove prepared for another surprise attack but his strike was weak and Azzurri caught the blade but Dove dragged it from his palm injuring Azzurri who hissed in pain as his aura flickered and Dove tried a follow up horizontal strike around the height of his neck while Cardin went for the legs but the blue haired elemental ducked under Dove's attack while doing a backflip that helped him lift his legs over The Executioner as he landed using earth and air manipulation to make a tremor causing them both to lose balance. Azzurri spun low to the ground, his movements fluid and precise, delivering a stylish leg sweep that sent both Cardin and Dove crashing to the floor. The crowd gasped as he sprung back to his feet, his stance radiating confidence.
Dove scrambled to rise, but Azzurri was faster. With a sharp kick to Dove's chest, he sent him staggering backward, using the momentum to leap off him with ease. Azzurri flipped gracefully through the air, landing directly on Cardin's shoulders. The larger boy barely had time to react before Azzurri twisted his body with lightning speed, executing a devastating hurricanrana that sent Cardin crashing into the ground.
Cardin groaned, his aura flickering dangerously from the impact. Azzurri wasted no time, driving his fist into Cardin's chest to ensure he stayed down. However, Dove recovered quickly and charged at him, wrapping his arms around Azzurri's neck in a tight headlock.
"Not bad," Azzurri muttered, his voice strained but still taunting. "But you're going to need more than that to phase me."
The crowd roared with anticipation as Azzurri planted his feet firmly on the ground. With a surge of power, he used his earth manipulation to anchor the ground to his boots, increasing his grip and balance. With an effortless display of strength, he countered Dove's hold, lifting him high into the air.
The audience erupted into cheers as Azzurri adjusted his stance, positioning Dove for a suplex. "Here we go!" he announced, slamming Dove into the ground with incredible force. The impact sent a shockwave through the arena, and Dove's aura flickered brightly, signaling he was nearing his limit.
The crowd collectively shouted, "OOOOOOOOOHH!" as Azzurri straightened, brushing imaginary dust off his jacket with exaggerated flair. "If you two thought challenging me in front of the entire school was a good idea, you should've at least brought your A game." He chuckled, his voice dripping with mockery. "This feels more like… you didn't even show up for the test."
Cardin struggled to his feet, his fists clenched and his face red with anger. "Don't think you've won yet!" he snarled. "The gloves are off now, man… you're going down!"
Azzurri cocked his head to the side, his smirk widening. "Yeah? Try your luck." He paused, letting his confidence hang heavy in the air. "Just don't disappoint me."
The remark lit a fire under Cardin, who snapped. "DISAPPOINT?!" he shouted, his voice trembling with fury.
Azzurri gave him a smug smile, his tone calm and cutting. "Ha. Looking at you, it's fair to say you hear that a lot." He tilted his head, feigning sympathy. "I'm sorry, but you really are disappointing."
Cardin's face contorted in rage, his entire body shaking. "I'll crush you… I'LL CRUSH YOU!"
Azzurri's smirk deepened, his fiery red eyes gleaming. "Ooh, hit a soft spot, huh?" he quipped, his tone laced with amusement.
With a primal roar, Cardin charged at him, blind with anger. The crowd leaned forward, captivated by the growing tension, as Azzurri casually shifted into a defensive stance, ready to meet Cardin's fury head-on.
ELSEWHERE A FEW SECONDS AGO
Zinnia and Yang wandered through the lively streets, scanning for a cozy spot to settle for the evening when a deafening explosion shattered the calm. The ground trembled slightly beneath their feet, and the sound echoed from the direction of the amphitheater. Zinnia froze for a moment, her crimson hair catching the glow of the sun, before muttering just loud enough for Yang to catch her words. Concern, frustration, and a faint hint of anger colored her voice.
"Damn it, Azzurri," she growled.
Yang tilted her head, her golden locks shimmering in the blinding light as her lilac eyes narrowed. "You think the explosion could be dangerous for him?" she asked, a mix of curiosity and caution lacing her tone.
Zinnia scoffed, shaking her head as a wry smile crossed her lips. "Dangerous to him? Not likely. He's fighting someone, no doubt about it… and whoever that someone is, they're probably regretting their life choices right about now."
Yang chuckled but couldn't hide her intrigue. "Well, that depends, right? I mean, you make him sound practically invincible," she teased, raising an eyebrow.
Zinnia's pace quickened, her sharp blue eyes fixed on the distant plume of smoke rising above the amphitheater. "He's stronger than most. Honestly, that's putting it mildly. There's barely anyone at school who can even hope to keep up with him," she said with an air of certainty that bordered on awe.
Yang smirked, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "Again with the praise. Come on, he doesn't look that strong. I could probably take him down without breaking a sweat," she boasted, her tone dripping with playful bravado.
Zinnia glanced at her, an amused expression tugging at her lips. "It's possible," she said, her voice nonchalant but carrying a subtle edge that left Yang momentarily speechless.
After a beat of silence, Yang suddenly spoke again, her question catching Zinnia off guard. "So, uh… Azzurri… what's he like?"
Zinnia faltered mid-step, choking slightly on air as she whipped her head around. "Why would you ask that?"
Yang grinned sheepishly, speaking so quickly her words blurred together. "Is-it-weird-for-someone-to-ask-her-bestie-about-her-super-hot-half-brother?"
Zinnia blinked, her face flushing slightly before she quickly composed herself. "Nope. Not weird... Not weird at all," she muttered, though her voice betrayed a hint of awkwardness. After a moment's pause, she sighed and continued. "Alright… I haven't known him for a long time, but here's what I can tell you. He's sweet, a little smart—little being the key word here—and he loves fighting more than anything. He's simple-minded, which is kind of cute, but also frustrating. He's super kind, always putting others before himself. But," she added, her tone turning exasperated, "he can be cocky, rash, and annoyingly overconfident. Oh, and as much as I hate to admit it… he's kind of a pervert."
Yang burst out laughing, earning a glare from Zinnia.
"But," Zinnia continued, softening slightly, "he's also charming—sometimes. Annoying—most of the time. And the only constant about him is his love for a good fight. You'll probably like him when you get to know him better."
Yang smirked. "Uh-huh… Thanks, Zinnia."
Zinnia shot her a knowing look, a playful glint in her eye. "Good to hear you're satisfied. Now, you owe me twenty lien for using me to fish for info about my… super-hot-half-brother," she said, mimicking Yang's earlier words with exaggerated flair.
Yang whined, pouting dramatically. "Come on, Zinnia! We're friends!"
Before Zinnia could retort, a brilliant stream of azure blue flames erupted into the sky from the amphitheater, illuminating the surroundings in a dazzling display of raw power. Both girls stopped in their tracks, staring at the spectacle.
"So cool," Yang whispered, her eyes wide with admiration.
Zinnia crossed her arms, her smirk returning. "Showoff," she muttered, though her tone held more fondness than irritation.
Here's a more polished and engaging version of your scene with enhanced flow, character dynamics, and added tension:
--
SCENE: THE COURTYARD - AZZURRI'S DOMINANCE
The crowd roared as Azzurri dodged Cardin's massive swings with The Executioner. Each swipe barely grazed him, his movements a blend of agility and calculated precision. "Come on, Cardin, is that all you've got?" Azzurri taunted, his electric blue hair catching the sunlight as he smirked.
Cardin's face twisted in anger as he swung again, only for Azzurri to slip under the attack. With a burst of speed, Azzurri delivered a gut punch that forced the air from Cardin's lungs, followed by a rapid barrage of blows to his torso.
Before Cardin could recover, Dove attempted to sneak up from behind, his blade raised for a strike. But Azzurri was faster. He leapt into the air, spinning mid-flight to deliver a punishing roundhouse kick to Dove's head, sending him sprawling.
"Nice try," Azzurri quipped as he landed gracefully.
Cardin roared in frustration, charging once more. But Azzurri's hand-to-hand combat prowess was too much for the brute. Ducking and weaving past each clumsy punch, he landed a sharp jab to Cardin's face before wrenching the mace from his hands.
Cardin, now weaponless, swung wildly with his fists. Azzurri caught his arm mid-swing, smirking. "Predictable," he muttered, landing a powerful punch to Cardin's jaw.
As Cardin stumbled back, Dove regained his footing and joined the fight, the two attacking in synchronized strikes. A coordinated punch combo forced Azzurri to backpedal slightly. He raised an eyebrow, amused. "All this… for two percent of my aura?" He laughed. "Now the gloves are off."
Azzurri crouched and slammed his hands onto the ground. Flames erupted beneath Cardin and Dove, forcing them to leap aside. Wasting no time, Azzurri launched himself forward, a trail of fire and dust in his wake. He hurled a massive rock toward Dove, the projectile smashing into the smaller fighter and sending him tumbling.
Cardin tried to retaliate, but two azure fireballs streaked toward him. He barely managed to deflect them before Azzurri tackled him into a freshly formed stone wall. Using his earth manipulation, Azzurri molded a solid ball of concrete, raising it above his head to crush Cardin's aura.
Cardin desperately grabbed Azzurri's arm to stop him. "Not so fast!" Cardin growled.
Azzurri smirked and casually tossed the concrete ball to his other hand before smashing it into Cardin at point-blank range. The impact sent Cardin sprawling, his aura flickering dangerously.
Cardin rolled across the ground and retrieved The Executioner, now loaded with combustion dust rounds. "Try blocking this!" Cardin roared, firing a barrage of explosive pellets.
Azzurri raised an earth shield, but the powerful rounds tore through it, forcing him to act fast. His aura flared, forming a tangible barrier that absorbed the remaining blasts. The glow flickered as Azzurri muttered, "Guess that's new."
Cardin stared in disbelief. "BLOODY HELL!"
Taking advantage of the chaos, Azzurri dashed through the smoke. Emerging like a blur, he delivered a spinning air kick to Cardin's stomach, stunning him. Without hesitation, Azzurri summoned an earth pillar that struck Cardin's jaw, launching him skyward.
Azzurri leapt after him, bellowing, "SERIOUS PUNCH!" as his fist collided with Cardin mid-air. The resulting explosion shattered Cardin's aura, sending him crashing to the ground.
As the dust settled, the crowd erupted in cheers. Dove, however, wasn't done. Roaring with fury, he charged Azzurri from behind.
Without even turning around, Azzurri summoned an earth gauntlet over his arm. With a calm pivot, he delivered a devastating uppercut to Dove, shattering his aura and sending him flying. The courtyard fell silent for a moment before the fans erupted again.
Azzurri glanced at the defeated duo, brushing imaginary dust from his jacket. "I think I broke a sweat," he muttered mockingly.
--
THE AFTERMATH: GLYNDA ARRIVES
The celebration was short-lived. The crowd parted as Glynda Goodwitch stormed onto the scene, her heels clicking sharply against the ground. Her piercing gaze silenced the students as they slowly dispersed, leaving Azzurri standing alongside Zinnia, Yang, and Rez.
Glynda's stern voice cut through the tension like a blade. "Mr. Starwalker, what exactly do you think you're doing?"
Azzurri turned to her with an unapologetic smirk. "Good morning—hold on," he glanced at his scroll, "Good afternoon, Madam Goodwitch."
Her glare intensified. "You're causing commotion, fighting in the school courtyard, and recklessly using aura and a dangerous semblance. Your behavior was not only insubordinate but also endangered everyone around you. This is not how a huntsman should conduct himself."
Azzurri's fiery red eyes darted away from her as he muttered, "Well, they started it." Straightening up, he added with mock sincerity, "I'm only getting blamed because I won."
Glynda's tone grew icy. "Watch your tone, Starwalker. This isn't about winning or losing. You could have walked away at any time or ended the fight with a single, decisive move. Instead, you chose to drag it out like a reckless child."
Her words hung in the air, leaving Azzurri, Zinnia, and Yang wide-eyed. Rez smirked faintly as Glynda turned on her heel to address Cardin and Dove.
"Smooth," Azzurri muttered under his breath. "Such a like-minded individual."
As Glynda stormed off, the tension among the teenagers quickly shifted into their usual banter. Azzurri approached Zinnia, Yang, and Rez with a faint smirk, trying to brush off the scolding he'd just endured.
"Thanks for the backup, guys. You knew I could handle myself, but it's touching that you cared enough to stick around," Azzurri teased, folding his arms smugly.
Zinnia rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed. "Touching? Seriously? You almost got yourself expelled, you idiot!" she shot back, stepping closer to him with an exasperated glare.
Azzurri shrugged nonchalantly. "And yet, I didn't. Like I said, I can handle the consequences of my actions." His smirk widened. "Besides, you're just being bossy."
"Oh, I'm the bossy one?" Zinnia snapped, her tone sharp as she poked his chest. "You're the one throwing around fireballs and concrete fists in the middle of the courtyard like it's a private sparring match!"
Rez, who had been quietly observing, let out a small chuckle. "She's got a point, Azzurri. That was overkill, even for you."
"Not you too, Rez," Azzurri said, throwing his hands up. "I saved the day! Two guys taken down without breaking a sweat—what's the big deal?"
Yang stepped in before Zinnia could retort, her excitement breaking the tension. "Big deal? Are you kidding? That fight was incredible! You somehow managed to look like a hero while wrecking Cardin and Dove. And, let's be honest, you looked good doing it."
Azzurri's smirk returned as he crossed his arms. "See? Someone gets it. And for the record, I didn't just look good—I made it look easy."
Yang laughed. "Easy? Please. I could take you down without breaking a sweat."
"Oh, here we go," Zinnia muttered, stepping back as Rez smirked, knowing where this was headed.
Azzurri raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? No offense, Yang, but you're all talk. I've got power, speed, and versatility on my side. You wouldn't stand a chance."
Yang grinned, cracking her knuckles. "Power, huh? Let me remind you—if you hit me, my Semblance makes me hit back way harder."
"Sounds cute," Azzurri replied with a mockingly skeptical look. "But if you burn out before I run out of aura, then what? Face it: you'd be toast."
Zinnia, clearly irritated by the bravado, decided to weigh in. "Yang, I wouldn't take him lightly. His fighting is sloppy, sure, but his sheer power and elemental control more than make up for it. He's like a fusion of Magneto and Professor X—unstoppable if you give him enough time to adapt."
Yang folded her arms, smirking confidently. "Yeah, but his aura level says otherwise." She held up Zinnia's scroll, showing Azzurri's aura at a meager 20%.
"Twenty percent?!" Yang exclaimed. "You're kidding!"
"Not kidding," Azzurri replied casually. "I did take a shotgun to the face, not to mention getting blasted by your sister's dust cocktail earlier."
Yang gawked in disbelief, while Rez chuckled. "See, that's the thing about Azzurri," Rez added dryly. "Even when he's barely holding on, he somehow manages to make it look like he's got everything under control."
"And that," Zinnia muttered, glaring at Azzurri, "is exactly why he drives me crazy."
"Crazy with admiration," Azzurri quipped, earning a glare from Zinnia and laughter from Yang.
"Keep dreaming, Starwalker," Zinnia snapped, turning on her heel as Yang clapped Azzurri on the back.
"Don't worry, hotshot," Yang said with a grin. "If you ever want to test that 'unstoppable' theory of yours, I'll be waiting."
"Noted," Azzurri replied, his confidence unwavering as he watched his team bicker and laugh around him.
BEACON ACADEMY CAFATERIA around 6:00pm
The dining hall buzzed with excitement as new students gathered to eat and socialize. At one table, Azzurri, Zinnia, Ruby, Yang, Jaune, Rez, and a striking, mysterious girl sat together, their plates piled high. The girl, dressed casually in a black crop top, high-waisted jeans that showed her curvaceous hips, and a flowing purple shawl, had a magnetic presence that drew more than a few glances. Her long black hair faded into a vibrant purple gradient, and her piercing, slit, catlike blue eyes scanned the group with quiet curiosity.
Azzurri leaned back in his chair, speaking animatedly. "And that's when Dove charged at me with his sword. I sidestepped, grabbed his arm, and sent him flying into Cardin. Pretty sure I heard one of them cry a little. Didn't stop them from attacking, they are persistent... I'll give them that, didn't take long before I crashed Cardin into the concrete BAM!! even harder than his grades, the crowds go wild and I am the undisputed king of Beacon" as he failed his arms theatrically.
Yang grinned, leaning forward. "I can vouch for that. The look on their faces was priceless!"
Ruby clasped her hands together, her silver eyes shining. "You're so cool, Azzurri! It's like something out of a movie!"
Zinnia groaned, rolling her eyes. "Don't encourage him, Ruby. His ego's already big enough to block the moon."
Rez, ever calm and collected, spoke up. "He has a point, though. That fight would've been over quicker if you didn't waste time talking. Sometimes it's just easier to just do the job"
Azzurri placed a hand over his heart, feigning hurt. "Rez, my stoic friend, I'll have you know that good banter is essential to any proper battle. You have to enjoy your man-to-man battles cuz grimm, they are real introverts who just wants to kill you and keep on going nowhere ."
Yang laughed. "I mean, you're not wrong. Gotta admit, you've got style. But seriously, what kind of weapon were you using? I didn't see one." as
Azzurri smirked, reaching behind his chair to pull out his twin sickles each with two blades. The weapon was blue and black in colour. The polished blades glinted under the dining hall lights, their curved design sleek and deadly. "Meet Zeffiri. My pride and joy. Dual sickles, retractable blades, dust-powered… and devastatingly handsome, much like their wielder."
Jaune's jaw dropped. "Whoa! That's so cool! How do you fight with those?"
"They're all about versatility," Azzurri said, spinning one in his hand effortlessly. "Hooks, slashes, throws… the possibilities are endless. And if you're lucky, maybe I'll give you a demonstration someday."
Ruby leaned closer, her eyes sparkling. "Do they transform? Please tell me they transform!"
"Of course they do, Double edged scythe, assault rifle and one last thing." Azzurri replied, grinning. "But that's a secret for now."
Yang raised an eyebrow. "Wait, wait. Back up. What's the deal with you and Cardin anyway? You've got some history, don't you?"
Azzurri's grin faltered, and he leaned forward, his voice dropping to a more serious tone. "First time I met Cardin was in Vale. He was picking on a Faunus kid in the middle of the street. Looked like he was about to take things too far, so I stepped in."
The girl with black hair leaned forward, her voice cool but curious. "You stopped him?"
"Of course I did," Azzurri said, his tone softening. "Told him if he wanted to pick on someone, he could try me. He backed off, but it's been bad blood ever since."
As the group laughed, Azzurri's attention shifted to the quiet girl at the table. He leaned toward her, his tone softening. "So, mysterious stranger, are you going to tell us your name, or should I just call you... um... Cat Noir?"
The girl raised an eyebrow, unimpressed but slightly amused. "It's Umbrei. Umbrei Rhodium."
"Umbrei," Azzurri repeated, as if savoring the sound. "A name almost as lovely as its owner."
Umbrei rolled her eyes, though her lips quirked into the faintest smirk. "You're not as charming as you think you are."
Yang watched the exchange with a knowing smile but said nothing, content to let the scene play out.
The conversation eventually shifted to families, and the mood grew more reflective. Ruby was the first to speak.
"My dad raised me and Yang after Mom… you know." She looked down briefly, but Yang patted her shoulder, offering a reassuring smile. "Anyway, Dad's great. He taught me everything I know about mechanics."
Jaune nodded. "Big family over here. Seven sisters. They used to dress me up as a princess when I was a kid."
"That explains a lot," Yang teased, earning a chuckle from the group.
Rez, who had been silent for much of the conversation, spoke up. "I grew up in a dojo with my brothers. Trained every day, fought every day… but things ended badly, so I left."
Azzurri glanced at him, his usual grin replaced by a look of quiet understanding. "That couldn't have been easy."
Rez shrugged. "It wasn't. I fucked up. But it made me stronger."
Zinnia leaned back in her chair, her tone surprisingly candid. "I loved my mom. She was kind, strong… everything I hope to be someday. My dad, though? Let's just say he made very bad choices. Serial killer bad."
The table fell silent for a moment before Ruby piped up, her voice gentle. "I'm sorry, Zinnia. That must've been really hard."
Zinnia shrugged, her expression neutral. "It was. But I'm here now, so it's all good."
When Azzurri's turn came, he hesitated. "I miss my old family a lot," he admitted, his usual confidence giving way to a hint of vulnerability. "They were… everything to me."
"What about your current family?" Ruby asked, tilting her head.
Azzurri's smile returned, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Let's just say it's complicated."
Sensing the tension, Yang quickly changed the subject. "So, anyone got a good story to lighten the mood?"
"I've got one," Zinnia said, smirking. "Remember the time you tried to fight a Beowolf with a stick, Azzurri?"
The table erupted into laughter, with Azzurri groaning dramatically. "You're never going to let me live that down, are you?"
FLASHBACK
The sun was setting over the emerald forests near Vale, casting long shadows across the ground. Azzurri Starwalker, then a fledgling huntsman-about-to-be-in-training, was on his first solo excursion. He had Zeffiri strapped to his back, but the overconfident teenager had decided he wouldn't need his signature weapons for what he assumed would be a simple scouting mission.
"Why waste good blades on a quiet stroll?" Azzurri had told himself, as he kept Zeffiri somewhere back on the trail twirling a sturdy stick he'd picked up along the way. "This will do just fine if anything shows up."
As he ventured deeper into the woods, the serene atmosphere began to shift. The chirping of birds ceased, and the air grew heavy. A low growl rumbled from behind the trees, and Azzurri froze mid-step, his grin faltering.
Out of the shadows emerged a massive Beowolf, its red eyes glowing like embers. Its sharp claws glinted in the fading light as it snarled, baring its fangs.
"Oh, great," Azzurri muttered, gripping the stick in both hands. "Of course, it couldn't be a bunny or a kitten. No, it has to be a giant, murderous Grimm."
The Beowolf lunged, and Azzurri barely dodged, stumbling into a tree. "Okay, Starwalker, think!" he said to himself. "You've got aura, a stick, and… that's about it. Awesome."
The Beowolf swiped again, and Azzurri retaliated, swinging the stick like a baseball bat. To his surprise, the impact actually staggered the creature.
"Hah! Take that, you overgrown mutt!" Azzurri taunted, spinning the stick dramatically. "This is why you don't mess with the mighty Azzurri Starwalker!"
The Beowolf growled louder, clearly unimpressed. It charged at him, and Azzurri scrambled to climb a nearby rock. From his precarious perch, he jabbed the stick downward, poking the Grimm's snout.
"Not so tough now, are you?" he jeered, but the Beowolf swiped at the rock, knocking him off balance. Azzurri landed flat on his back with a groan, the stick rolling out of his reach.
"Okay, new plan," he muttered, crawling toward the stick as the Beowolf loomed over him.
Just as the creature prepared to strike, Azzurri grabbed the stick, rolled to his feet, and thrust it forward. The makeshift weapon lodged in the Grimm's mouth, momentarily pinning its jaws open.
"Yeah! How do you like me now?" Azzurri yelled triumphantly.
The Beowolf shook its head violently, snapping the stick in half. Azzurri's confidence wavered. "Oh. That's… not good."
Realizing he was out of options, Azzurri bolted toward a nearby tree, the Beowolf hot on his heels. He scrambled up the trunk, narrowly avoiding a swipe from the creature's claws. Perched on a branch, he glanced down at the angry Grimm circling below.
"Well, this is embarrassing," he muttered. "Zeffiri, I'll never leave you behind again. I swear."
Eventually, a passing huntsman heard the commotion and dispatched the Beowolf with ease. As Azzurri climbed down from the tree, the huntsman gave him a long, unimpressed look.
"A stick?" the man asked, raising an eyebrow.
Azzurri shrugged sheepishly. "What can I say? I like to keep things interesting."
END OF FLASHBACK
Before long, the conversation shifted again, this time to combat techniques. Ruby gushed about Crescent Rose, Jaune asked more questions about Zeffiri, and Rez offered insights from his years of training. Umbrei, though still reserved, joined in occasionally, her sharp observations earning Azzurri's admiration—and a few poorly disguised flirtations. before a familiar haughty voice was heard.
"Well, isn't this a lovely little gathering?"
The group turned to see Weiss standing nearby, her arms crossed and her expression well... icy. "I heard about your fight. Do you have any idea how reckless you were?"
Yang raised an eyebrow. "Relax, Weiss. He handled it."
"That's not the point!" Weiss snapped, glaring at Azzurri. "You're supposed to be setting an example, not acting like some street brawler."
Azzurri leaned back, his signature smirk returning. "Oh, come on, Snow Angel. It wasn't that bad. Besides, you're not seriously mad that I stood up to a bully, are you?"
Weiss's face flushed with irritation. "That's not the—stop calling me that!"
"Would you prefer 'Ice Queen'?" Azzurri asked, his tone dripping with mock politeness.
Umbrei shifted uncomfortably, her gaze flicking between Azzurri and Weiss. "Maybe you should stop antagonizing him." Umbrei told Weiss
Weiss glared at Azzurri and Umbrei. "You're insufferable."
"And you're adorable when you're mad," Azzurri shot back, earning a mix of groans and laughter from the table.
Yang leaned closer to Ruby, whispering, "He's got guts, I'll give him that."
Ruby nodded. "And he's kinda funny, too."
Finally, Ruby yawned, stretching her arms. "We should probably get to the gym. Don't want to be late for Initiation tomorrow!"
The group's laughter echoed through the halls as they headed for the gym, the bonds between them growing stronger with every step.
