A Practical and Slightly Peculiar Compendium
The Singing Citrus Grove
Not all magical plants are as dramatic as Devil's Snare or as temperamental as Venomous Tentacula. Some, like the Singing Citrus, are content to exist quietly—well, musically—in their corner of the world.
The Citrus Cantata, as Herbologists call it, is a hybrid species discovered by sheer accident when an unintentional spell mixed a grove of mundane citrus trees with enchanted Larkspur Lemons. The result is a tree that not only produces vibrant fruit but also hums soft melodies depending on the fruit's ripeness.
Luna Lovegood, amateur botanist and professional daydreamer, cataloged these trees in her secluded orchard. According to her notes, each tree hums in harmony with its neighbors, creating an otherworldly chorus that makes one feel as though they are standing inside a living symphony.
"I find the Singing Citrus trees are happiest when you sing back," Luna wrote. "I sang a rather wobbly rendition of 'Weasley Is Our King' to them last week, and they seemed to enjoy it—though I may have imagined the bassline coming from the grapefruits."
Uses
The fruits themselves are marvels. Their flavors are influenced by their song:
Lemons hit high, sharp notes and make the tangiest lemonade.
Oranges hum warm, rich tones and are said to infuse marmalade with bursts of sunlight.
Grapefruits, with their low, resonant vibrations, are oddly sweet when paired with chocolate—a combination Luna claims is an excellent substitute for calming draughts.
Cultivation Tips
The grove is best planted on soil infused with moonstone powder, as it ensures the trees harmonize instead of competing for melodic dominance. Overly competitive trees may attempt duets, resulting in an unpleasant cacophony that disturbs nearby plants and, occasionally, the neighbors.
Luna advises treating these trees as friends rather than resources. "Their fruit is a gift, but their song is a blessing," she noted. "Sometimes, it's better just to sit beneath their branches and listen."
