Ever since I started writing fanfics, I got the habit of writing long chapters. So inspired by Blueyxspy, I'm going to write shorter chapters in a story about Dougie and Bingo that I have been planning for a while. This was originally going to be a one-shot, but I realized it was going to be too long (Im talking it could have easily been a 15 or 20k words or more story. too much for a one-shot, in my opinion), so I decided just to make it a story with chapters.

Be advised that I'm not the biggest expert in deafness, especially deaf characters. However, I researched enough to put a plot together, and I'm definitely going to learn more and more as I progress through this. Also, I'm open to any criticism or review you guys have in your mind. And if I mess something up or I accidentally write something disrespectful to the deaf or hard-hearing community…I'm an idiot, straight up

Enough talking about myself...Enjoy "You are not alone"

Today is the day.

The day he is going to be born again.

A day he expected for a long time.

Anxiety is through the clouds, but his willingness to go forward is as strong as a stone wall.

A wall that stiffened, when his mother parked in the parking lot in front of the massive hospital

With a few taps to his leg by his mother, Dougie steps out of the gray sedan. He is 12 years old but still as fluffy as a proud Cavapoo, still on his way to being fully grown.

It didn't take long for the mother-son duo to get to the hospital reception and for his mother to talk to the receptionist. An area with white and brown colors, several plants around, comfy chairs with magazines nearby, and a TV with the kids' show of the moment to keep the kids entertained—classic but yet a familiar sight for Dougie. This wasn't his first time in a hospital. He could swear the hospitals and clinics were like his second home due to his condition.

After a quick conversation with the golden retriever receptionist, Dougie's mom turns to him and signals him [let's go, the doctor, is waiting, to which Dougie responds by nodding his head with a smile.

The receptionist opened the automatic door, letting the two Cavapoos enter further into the hospital.

Dougie walked through these halls a lot of times to the point it didn't even faze him. Another day in the boring hospital, he would think in normal circumstances; however, this day was a special one, and he could feel it inside of him: excitement, anxiety, fear, bravery, all of these emotions were blending in his head, he just wanted to run to the doctor's office and start a new chapter in his life, a chapter he wishes he had started from the beginning, but life had to happen, but he already made peace with it, but at last, he found himself in front of the office alongside his mother.

After three hits on the door by his mother, the door opens with a black and brown Labrador on the other side with a name tag that says "Dr Acosta"

Dr Acosta, upon seeing the Cavapoos on the other side of the door, shows excitement by lighting his face up, everbrowns up, and a smile. He then opens the door entirely and moves his hand to the inside of the office, inviting Dougie and his mother to get in

Already inside, Dougie's mother points at a chair near a desk with a computer on top of it. Doguie understood she wanted him to sit down there, and he did

From there, he just waited for the doctor and his mother to sit down, but the two adults were talking. For moments like this, he curses the fact he was born without hearing, but his demeanor changes when he notices his mother happy, with a smile and on the border of tears.

Finally, the two adults finished talking. His mother sits down on a chair far from the desk, and the doctor naturally sits down on his chair with the computer in front of him. When he is set, he turns to Dougie and signals him [Excited?]

Doguie only answers by nodding with his eyes closed.

The doctor only shows his thumbs up and turns to his computer to start typing.

He typed and typed and typed until he pulled out two cords from a zip lock bag and got up to move to Dougie.

Putting a hand under Dougie's mouth, he makes him tilt his head to the left to show his right ear to him. Since he is a Cavapoo, he has a long, fluffy ear, so the doctor had no choice but to move his ear with his hand.

With the ear out of the way, the doctor finally sees his device in an area without fur.

A Cochlear Implant, surgically attached to his head.

The doctor connects the transmitter to his computer using the cord. He does the same with the implant in his other ear.

Dougie still feels the pain from the implants that were attached three weeks ago, but it was deemed safe enough to move on to the next part of the operation, which her mother worked so hard for this moment for a long time.

With both Cords connected to Dougie's implants, the Doctor goes back to sit on his spot and continue typing. Dougie glances at his mother. She is smiley, with both cheeks inflamed and a hand over her mouth. Her eyes are squinty, too, trying not to let those tears come out.

After typing for what looks like a century, the doctor turns to Douie and signals him [Tell, me, if, it is, too, loud, or, weird, and as before, Dougie just nods

The doctor then turns to his mother and starts moving his lips to talk again. After a few words from the doctor and nods from his mother, she pulls out her cell phone and points it at Dougie, thats where he understood.

Its time

The doctor types a few keys more, and with the final hit on the space bar, he gives the thumbs up to his mother.

For the first time, invisible waves reached his implant and transmitted an electrical signal to his brain to translate…

Sound

"I love you Dougie"
