Fairy tales end with a "and they lived happily ever after" line. But as we all wonder, what really lies after the 'happy ever after? After the characters were together, was it all sunshine and rainbows? Ayase Chihaya learns the hard way of what it feels like to lose something she had taken for granted. But can she actually regain it? Or is it going to be a regret forever?

The day after Taichi's birthday, Chihaya accompanies her boyfriend to the station now that he is moving to Kyoto, taking advantage of their time together to try to find out what gift Taichi was hoping for that year.

Taichi had troublesome rivals. Chihaya had promising high school karuta players. Arata was living the city life. Shinobu was too cool for university. Suo was seriously looking for a bride. And a secret society was formed. Things changed as everyone moved forward but some things stayed the same: they still played karuta, and Komano's eyes remained a mystery.

A future marriage of convenience with the former Eternal Meijin seemed to solve problems for mutiple parties. Just as their courtship progressed and Shinobu started to believe Hisashi wasn't so odious after all, he dared to steal the one thing she had guarded for twenty-one years: her heart.
