"hey, why do you two look so similar?" Brick randomly asked, holding two small wooden tubes.
"oh that. we're siblings. we've never been adopted because we want to always stay together" Violet replied.
"yeah. if they want one of us, they'll have to take both of us!" Henry said, shoving two other small wooden tubes together perfectly.
"but don't you like, hate each other?" Brick asked.
"what? no. why would we? we're the only family we have left. if we fight too much we could end up driving the other away and we wouldn't have any family left" Henry replied as he attached the combined tubes to the wooden device Brick was helping him build.
"I never really thought of that..." Brick trailed off as he became lost in thought.
"okay, looks like you're all good to go!" the doctor said as he finished examining Boomer's almost completely healed leg.
"thank you doctor. come on Boomer. we're going to the orphanage now" the social worker spoke in a calm voice, signaling Boomer to follow him. he wore a simple dark gray suit while his short brown hair was neatly combed back.
"okay mister John" Boomer replied as he flew up off the chair, still holding his pillow.
he followed the social worker out of the hospital and into his car in the parking lot.
"so while we're heading there, would you like to tell me how you and your brothers ended up sleeping in a cave?" John asked.
"we...are criminals. we stole stuff and wrecked buildings. nine out of ten times the powerpuff girls would come to stop us and then we'd fight. we've only won about two or three times" Boomer explained.
"is that why your leg was injured and your brother's clothes are burnt and torn?" John questioned.
"Butch also had a ton of bruises from Buttercup but those healed really fast" Boomer continued.
"like how your leg healed really fast?" John asked.
"I mean yeah, chemical X definitely helped but he somehow healed even faster! he has been for the past few weeks" Boomer replied.
"well hear me out. this might sound crazy but, maybe he has healing powers?" John suggested.
"Butch? with healing powers? no way! he's always the one who always goes headfirst into battle. and when we're not fighting he always wants to!" Boomer responded with a small laugh.
"well, you're still growing and developing. life can cause some drastic changes" John replied as he backed out of the parking spot.
"no kidding. one day me and my brothers are living in an old hideout we found under a bridge, the next we're moving into an orphanage" Boomer spoke, looking out the window at the clear blue sky.
Butch stood in the doorway, confused on what he was seeing.
"why are you wearing the stupid uniform!?" he asked.
"all my normal clothes are burned and torn and this is the only thing they would give me. also they said if you put on the uniform they'll give you chocolate" Brick replied. he was wearing the orphanage uniform and his hair was in a low ponytail.
"ooh! chocolate!" Butch cheered zooming over to his bed where someone had put a uniform.
he grabbed the clothing and ducked behind the room divider in the corner and got changed.
"its a little bigger then it should be but it fits pretty well either way. it'd only really be a problem if it was too big to fit or if it was too tight" Butch commented as he came into view, now wearing the uniform.
"what?" Brick questioned.
"wait, I'm actually smarter than you with something? ha! I can't believe it! Brick doesn't know simple fashion facts!" Butch laughed.
"well, you see dear, sweet, smelly Brick. if a piece of clothing is too tight, its not comfortable. which clothing is supposed to be" Butch continued, kneeling down slightly.
"no, I know that. its just something you don't normally say without someone asking" Brick replied.
"oh" Butch squeaked as he stood up properly.
Violet, Henry and Brick all looked at him as he looked down at his clothing.
"I think I might like fashion" he whispered.
"anyways, I'mma check if they have the replacement for that lantern I took down ready!" Butch continued before leaving the room.
"the wha for the wha?" Violet asked as the door slammed shut.
as Boomer entered the orphanage he sniffed his arm, gagging at the smell.
"hey where can I take a shower? I smell so bad even for me" Boomer told John.
"yes, I'll show you the bathrooms. I'll ask a worker to get a uniform for you to change into" John replied, gesturing for Boomer to follow him.
in a few minutes Boomer was in a shower stall taking off his clothes with a towel hanging over the locked door.
he tossed the clothes onto the door next to the towel before reaching to switch on the shower.
Boomer screamed a second after he turned on the water. partly because he accidentally turned on the cold water but mostly because of his changed appearance. there were fins on his lower arms, legs and behind his ears while the sclera of his eyes was a very light blue, his pupils were slit and his irises were an extra bright blue.
"are you okay?" someone asked from outside the shower stall, assumingly a teenage orphan from how they sounded.
Boomer shut off the water and grabbed the towel from the door, wrapping it around his body.
he unlocked the stall and slammed the door open.
"am I part fish!?" he exclaimed to the girl in a panic.
"uh...are you Boomer from the rowdyruff boys?" the girl nervously asked him.
"yeah. me and my brothers were sent here like, yesterday" Boomer replied.
"well...Bubbles has sound wave powers and that your brother has fire breath. maybe this is your unique power?" the girl suggested.
"turning into a fish!?" Boomer said, his voice almost a scream.
"no! I have a book of superpowers in my room. its aquatic adaptation! I think. basically you can sort of shape-shift into a sort of part fish thing so you can survive underwater" the girl explained.
"so I'm part fish now?" Boomer replied.
the girl smacked her lips once as she looked away.
"yeah pretty much" she spoke as she looked back at him.
"hello, we'd like to adopt" a woman said as she and a man stood in front of the front desk of the orphanage.
"uh yeah, what's your names and how many kids would you like to adopt?" the receptionist asked.
"I'm Emily, this is my husband Antony. we'd like to adopt about, two or three kids. preferably all siblings" the woman replied.
"alright, you've got a few options" the receptionist spoke as they typed something on the computer.
