Blueeyeeddevil06, thank you for being my beta!
Rei paced the temple grounds the next morning. She now knew what Jadeite was and what was coming. He was one of four werewolves, all represented by the moon, and currently working for the evil Diamond. She still shuddered at Usagi's description of the monster, Diamond. How he used human sacrifices to recharge, give his body energy, and extend his life through the suffering of others.
Usagi's knowledge had been thorough. His brother, Sapphire was a vampire, a transition forced on him by his brother. One he, Diamond, wouldn't make for himself. He wanted to be living and have a human heartbeat. His desire to hide anything unusual about himself and his psychotic belief that he was already perfect drove that.
Then there was Emerald, his sister. She was a powerful witch, although to Rei's shock at what the sister had achieved, Usagi insisted that Rei was more powerful. What floored her was the fact that Emerald, as a human and a witch, looked just as young as her brothers did. While Diamond got his power for a long life from murder, rape, and torture, she got hers from magic itself. Something that Rei had access to as a witch. It was a shock to find out her aging had practically stopped and that she could live for centuries.
It was then that the sad story of Usagi's mother came out. She too had been a powerful witch and had lived for over fifty years by the time she met Usagi's, then Astrid's, father. He charmed her and performed the most ostentatiously romantic acts for her. She quickly fell in love. They met and married in one month's time, and she became queen.
Shortly after that, she grew pregnant. When she gave birth to a daughter, she was shocked when even her husband cheered. She didn't know he'd been hoping that Astrid had taken after her mother and had strong magic. He was furious the day he realized she didn't have an ounce of magic in her.
Her mother, in an attempt to appease him, grew pregnant again, and this time she gave him a son and heir. Everything had seemed picture-perfect then. He had a powerful and beautiful wife whose looks didn't fade, a sweet lovely daughter, and an heir to his throne. The kingdom cheered and celebrated them every year on their national day of celebration.
Over the years, he had managed to hide his continual pursuit for more and more power. That was when he met the vampire that Usagi had refused to name when telling the story. She wanted his identity lost to history. Knowing that his wife would never stomach the idea of giving their daughter over to a vampire for more power, he poisoned her. Even as a powerful witch, she wasn't immune to poison or her husband's betrayal. She never suspected what evil lay in his heart, so she didn't guard herself. As she lay cold in their marriage bed, he handed Usagi over to the vampire for a fortune in gold. One he planned to use to finance an army.
Rei looked over the beautifully manicured grass of the grounds and tried to find her normal peace. It was difficult to find today. Her whole perception of the world had changed. Nothing remained as it was. She was a witch! She couldn't fathom that she didn't really even know herself until yesterday.
She felt a presence behind her and spun quickly. Jadeite was there, now face to face with her. "You're a werewolf."
He nodded, "and you're a witch."
He took a step toward her and she took a step back. "Stop," she whispered. "You listen to me. I know who you work for, and as long as you do, you stay away from me."
"Don't you feel this powerful attraction?" He asked, desperately.
She gave him a small smile. "I feel it and I've seen it in my magic. Yes. That doesn't change who I am. Choose. And I know you can't now, or won't now. Just know that you can't have the life you're living and me."
"They're my pack, you don't understand what that means." He looked at her with desperation in his eyes.
She shrugged and sadly said, "then you made your choice."
"Please don't ask me to choose," he begged her.
"Don't ask me to destroy who I am and become part of what you're doing. I can't. You have to know that magic itself recoils at the abomination that Diamond has become."
"I'm different from him!"
"You serve him. It doesn't matter!" She then turned and quickly walked away. She wanted to get to the quiet of her room before she started crying.
When she arrived, Usagi was there looking at her sadly with open arms. "You did the right thing."
Rei rushed into her arms and tears started falling. "But my vision showed-"
"You did the right thing," she insisted again. "Your vision showed that this works. They all leave Diamond."
"But-"
"But nothing. It works. He chooses you." Usagi held her tighter as Rei's tears stopped. "Stay strong. You save him."
Rei shook her head, "no, it shows that you will save him."
"No. I have more of the prophecy." Usagi then pulled back and led her so they could both sit on Rei's bed. "You're a planet besides me, we do this together."
"But you cleansed the blood moon. The more I thought about it the more I realized that's what I saw."
Usagi shook her head kindly. "I don't work alone. I might be the symbol, but you're my support. And really, he'd leave for you way before he'd leave for me. You're fated."
"This all seems so…" Rei picked sadly at her comforter. "What if I can't do any of this?"
Usagi laughed. "You have all of this in you already, Rei. You're strong and you're powerful and you're amazing. Don't you see that?"
"I have a lifetime of rejection to hide that from me."
"Rejection from who? People who don't matter? A father who's a self-centered jerk? I've had that. And I get it's hard to adjust. It did take me a while, but Rei, believe me. I know you're amazing. I see you. I've had centuries of studying people, and it's easy for me now. You're so special. Not because you're a witch, but because of who you are on the inside. That is what will save him. An amazing woman who's worth giving up everything for. Throughout the centuries it's been men who change the borders of countries, but it's been women who changed the world."
Rei looked at her with desperate hope in her eyes. "How can you be sure I'm one of them?"
"I've never known Mars to be wrong when he chooses a warrior. You're the first witch I know of him choosing. Alexandra the Great, Genghis Khan, Spartacus, the list goes on. They were all warriors chosen by Mars." Usagi took her hand and squeezed it encouragingly. "Let's change the world."
"I'm just a Priestess from a little shrine." Rei objected weakly.
Usagi smiled and shook her head, "no, you're Rei, daughter of Mars, and an extremely powerful witch. You'll never be ordinary."
