Blueeyeddevil06, thank you for being my beta!
Mamoru paced the main room of his apartment, agitated out of his mind. "So a priestess tells you that you need to go after Diamond, and you believe her!? That's ridiculous!" He blushed and looked over at Rei, "no offense intended."
She laughed, not offended. It was evident to her he wanted to keep Usagi as far away from trouble as possible, and that made her like him more. Still, she teased him, "yeah, no offense. Just because you think my visions are garbage." He really was just too much fun to rile up. By the teasing light in Usagi's eyes, she knew she agreed.
"No! Not garbage, just…wrong…" he said, trailing off. "It's Diamond! She told me what he is!"
"It's not just Rei's visions," Usagi said soothingly. "The prophecy I told you about was from Scotland. My own mother, who was an extremely powerful witch, saw things too. Things that are only now starting to make sense."
She beckoned him over and had him sit next to her. She took his large hand in her soft little one and said, "she's not even saying I fight alone. She's going to be right there with me. She's in danger too. But remember this, I'm the most powerful being you've ever met. Not to brag, but while there are others older than me, only Dracula himself is stronger."
It was Rei who commented, "seriously!? What's the problem then?"
"One, finding him. Two, actually killing him. That's the problem."
Mamoru gently drew her attention back to him. "Your mother; you didn't say…"
"My father murdered her so he could sell me. He knew she would stop him. Witches can still be poisoned by the man they love."
She grew pensive and then looked at Rei, "sometimes I think about her when I look at you. You don't have her face, but I wonder if you have her soul. To me, it feels like she could have been reborn in you."
Rei blushed and smiled, "but she was so powerful. How could that be me?"
Usagi said, "you don't understand the amount of power you have yet. You're incredibly powerful.
"She also had visions of my destined love. It wouldn't surprise me for her to figure out a way to see me find him."
"How would I know?" Rei asked.
"Keep exploring your powers, and don't put limits on yourself." She places her hand gently on Rei's arm. "I already know you're amazing," she whispered gently.
Tears rushed to Rei's eyes. "But what if I let you down!?"
Mamoru was so lost as to what was happening in the conversation. It was like Usagi was speaking a whole other language to him. Instead of asking, he sat shocked.
Usagi scoffed hard, "your father's an idiot. Actually, he reminds me a lot of my own father. Way too much. They are both narcissistic assholes. We can't be molded into women our fathers wanted us to be—thank goodness! Think of what he would have you become. Tell me if that's someone you could look in the eye at the end of the day in the mirror."
Rei burst into tears, and Usagi released Mamoru's hand to pull Rei into her embrace. She rubbed a comforting hand on her back and said, "you're already a woman I need in my life. Not because I want to 'mold' you, but because you're amazing and special. You're enough just for who you are. What you are might be the most powerful witch alive right now." That shocked the tears out of Rei. "Really?" she asked, surprised.
Usagi snorted. "Rei, why would I need a mildly powerful witch to help me? You'd get slaughtered."
Mamoru felt like he could see Rei's internal confidence grow at his incredible girlfriend's words of encouragement. She radiated confidence, and only now did he realize that what he thought was confidence before was all bluster. Usagi hadn't been fooled, though.
He realized she saw the world more than he did. He saw the science and math of everything, but she saw how people worked. He realized he wasn't fooling her like he thought he was, and he felt silly for even thinking he had. He didn't care that Rei was there. He said, "why do you have to do this? I'm scared of losing you! My parents died, and I was left all alone until you. I need you more than anything in my life, even more than science and being a doctor!"
Usagi had already turned to him and was holding him. He wasn't crying, but she felt him shaking. "Did you even listen to the prophecy, silly man? We live."
He sighed, "but how can you be sure? It's just-"
She chuckled, "I'm asking you to pick me over science. After all, I shouldn't exist, and I'm very much alive and loving you."
"But prophecy and visions?" He asked, struggling.
She pulled back, smirking at him, "I tend to believe them entirely now. After all, they led me to you."
His shoulders slumped, "and if they're wrong and I lose you?"
She rolled her eyes and said, "you can't. I lived too long to die now that I found you."
"The guys shouldn't pull you into this," he tried to keep protesting.
"I'm in this either way. With them, I have four moles in his organization. They are a help." She kissed his cheek. "I'm going for shock and awe. The more power on my side, the better."
Rei tentatively said, "speaking of power. Luna was right. Makoto is great…She's also Jupiter. I invited her to the meeting. Since I had the vision, I thought it was okay for me to invite her."
Mamoru smirked at Usagi as she was about to object, and he said, "what, too dangerous?"
She grumbled, "She's young, and I don't know the source of her powers. It depends on who turned her."
Rei smiled, "The Master, what a pretentious name."
Usagi's eyes shot wide. "Him!? William is going to be pissed! He wanted to kill The Master himself." She smiled, "I know she drank his blood, so that means she's got a great deal of powerful. Good."
"William?" Rei asked.
"One of the vampires that are older than me. He's with Drucilla."
"Drucilla-the-crazy?"
"Yup," she said, popping the p. Mamoru wondered how she seemed to know every famous vampire. Then it dawned on him that she was a famous vampire. He pulled her into his arms and kissed the crown of her head as he thought about science and how it didn't explain the best thing in his life.
There was a tentative knock on the apartment door, and he gently nudged Usagi to answer it. After all, he knew it was for her.
He heard her squealing in delight, and he figured that Makoto was there.
